Melee peered closely at the foreign object, her head canted to the side. It jutted out of the ground, uncaring of the world that had gone on around it. The item would have been called a "fire hydrant" if she had known what that was. These were things for which wolves had no purpose, because they couldn't utilize them appropriately. Their purpose and their mission was lost. So they stood, silent sentinels to a time long gone and a city that had long ago stopped caring for them. It was coated in layers of rust, its yellow or red or perhaps red-and-blue paint chipped away by the time that had transpired. Melee found it interesting, though, because it was so awkward and it had bolts that seemed as if they were meant to be turned. What great thing had turned them and to what end? With such contraptions, no wonder the human world had ended. Now rose the time of the Luperci, an age that she brashly believed held more respect for the earth and less folly than the last. In her insular world, this was truth.

She turned back toward her father after peering at the thing, grinning with ivory white teeth that gleamed in the sunlight. Melee was glad for Nayru's absence, glad that Gideon had agreed to come with her today, glad that she could explore with her father. Explore, fish, and perhaps find some new herbs that she could bring home. It would be good to add non-local herbs to her potted plants. This could potentially mean that she had herbs even the healer had not accessed. That wasn't important just yet, though. First she had a question for her father. "Do you know what this thing is... or at least, what it was?" she asked, gesturing with her six-fingered hand at the fire hydrant. Her deformed hand remained still at her side, as it usually was. The limb saw far less movement than its able-bodied counterpart.

Whether he had an answer and an explanation that would sate her appetite for knowledge, the pair had places to be. First, to fish. Then, gather herbs. After which they would likely bring the fish home to feast with their fellow Stormbringers. Though she had been momentarily distracted by the presence of such an odd thing, it didn't change their plans. The girl began to walk toward the fishing spot where they intended to wrangle up some grub. She made a game of walking. Setting one foot carefully in front of the other and putting her arms out for balance, a gleeful smile on her face. Still a child, as much as she played at maturity. "How many fish do you think we need to catch to feed the family?" more now, with Nayru in the picture. It really wasn't different, though, considering Nayru had been their caretaker and close family friend for longer than she had been Gideon's mate. Still, a tang of bitterness crept up Melee's throat as she thought about Nayru joining in their family meal.

I kept starting this reply then losing my muse Dx

He didn't consider himself an expert on humans or their objects by any means, but he had spent a lot of time in the city in the past. Gideon had lived in Dahlia de Mai for his entire life before it had merged together with the Valley pack, but he'd taken quite a few trips down to the dusty skyscrapers. It had been nice to have someone to talk to this time - the journey to the city had taken more time than usual do to the new pack's northern location, but he'd had Melee to talk to and it had gone fast.

His girl was growing up; that was plain to see. Gideon still sought to protect her from things, as perhaps any parent would...but he tried not to be too strict. His brother Saul had adopted a little girl, Wretch, who he was also close to. The white female seemed keen to stick to Ichika's lands and not wander, something that he was thankful for. He often had to fight the urge to go looking for Melee or Range if he hadn't seen them for a day or two. Perhaps it was how they had come into his life, that he had saved them from almost certain death. It made him even more protective of them than he might have been otherwise.

The Stormbringer male looked up when Melee spoke, looking at the object that she indicated. What exactly...was that? He had no idea either. It was very brightly colored, as if to draw attention to it for some reason. "No idea. There seem to be a lot of them around here...I wonder what they were used for" Gideon replied. They didn't focus on the hydrant for too long, though, beginning to walk again toward their choice fishing spot. "There's a park near here that I thought would be perfect for fishing...I brought some line and some bait, so it shouldn't be too difficult to catch a good amount. How many do you think you can eat, dear?" He inquired. "Probably ten to fifteen, depending. Saul's daughter still isn't up and about, with that broken leg and all. So we should catch a few for her as well"

Bad muse, bad! Sorry for the wait, just finally got caught up on life stuff after my vacation. Hail damage on car and house = no bueno. @_@

She was growing up, it was true. The girl was aspiring to the forecaster specialized rank in Ichika no Ho-en, ready to become a true adult within the pack. Already she was a full member of the pack, but being placed higher than the Mui rank would really reflect what she had become: an adult. There was no way that she could think of herself as a mature adult, given that she knew she was still immature in so many ways. However, Melee also didn't think that there was anything wrong with that. She was a goofy, playful, loving creature. That would never change for her. Perhaps it would be tempered by experience and time, but for now she was more than happy to be who she was. Even if she stayed this way forever, she would always have her self-esteem. That was one area where Melee had never really had problems, except sometimes with her mangled paw. Even that never lasted, though; she thought herself beautiful.

As Gideon said that he didn't know what the thing was, she shrugged. Wondering why someone would want a big metal thing to stick out so much. Although she supposed it would be a good marker in the nighttime, because it would stand out where regular metal would not. "Maybe they used them as some sort of marker at night? Or they could have made them as a warning against something." if that was the case, though, the warning was long forgotten. Now those who stepped across the shattered remains of the city were Luperci and other wildlife. They knew not of the warnings and ways of humans long dead and buried. In many ways, that was a good thing. The silent hydrant sentinels would keep their secrets for another day or perhaps forever, as time wore away the paint and - in a long time - the metal itself. Then nothing would remain of the time before.

She grinned when her father called her "dear", enjoying the term of endearment. Though the feeling froze inside of her as she wondered if Nayru was also called dear with as much sweetness as she received it. The girl swished her tail, though, not wanting that pang of childish jealousy to ruin her day with her dad. There was room for both of them in his life, she was beginning to really realize and understand that. Slowly, it was sinking in and she was coming to accept the new official status of Gideon and Nayru's life together. Maybe it wasn't all that bad after all. "Ten or fifteen? You mean just for me, right?" she joked with a flick of her tongue across her lips. "I can probably eat... two or three, maybe four if they're small. I guess we will just get as many as we can. Range can probably swallow down as many as we can catch." she laughed again at the thought of her brother eating a pile of fish. He would do it, too. A still growing yearling male? He could probably eat his weight in meat if they let him.
