Melee learned something new every day. Today, her intention was to learn more about climbing trees. This was important to learn before the seasons changed for several reasons. One reason was that the leaves would fall in the upcoming season (hence, she thought, its name of "Fall"). Some limbs might also become more brittle and eventually they would be weighed down by snow. Since it was a mountain, this area would get colder even faster. So she had set out today with a mission: to teach herself to climb a tree with the agility of a squirrel. With only one useful hand, this was going to be quite the task. She refused to be disheartened or hampered by her disability, though. Melee Soul would learn to climb trees or die trying!

Her first few attempts had not gone well. The Mui had fallen unceremoniously on her rump, jolting her joints and knocking her breath out. She was lucky that she had ended up on her rump and not her head, though. Melee's bi-toned gaze appraised the selected tree again, trying to decide how she might climb its heights. Assessing the nearest branches for the probability that she would reach them without falling. With a little grumbled growl to herself, the girl leaped at the tree. Melee dug the claws from her good hand and her hindpaws into the tree's bark. It left marks against the grain, forever marring the face of the tree with her claws' impressions.

Melee tucked her deformed hand behind her back so that she didn't even consider it slightly useful toward achieving her goal. Every time she had tried to rely on her deformed hand at all, she had ended up falling. This time, she had to act like the limb was gone entirely. Raising a hindleg, she managed to press her claws in again. She pushed up against the bark, lifting herself closer to the branch. Melee swayed for a moment, took a deep breath and kept on going. This time, she would reach the top.

Ouija had been living beneath the mountains for awhile now but he hadn't yet thought to really explore up within the mountains themselves. He wasn't sure why it hadn't crossed his mind to do so sooner. He couldn't even begin to speculate upon that one. Still, he had the time to do it now at least. There were no pressing issues that needed his attention. At least none that he could think of at the moment. Besides, he might be able to find some things within the mountains of which to gather. He didn't know of the plant life there since he had never bothered to explore it before.

After finally having made up his mind he headed up the tree encrusted slope that was in the area of Anathema. He kept his gaze on the ground, looking for any sort of plant life that he could use. After all he boiled them in order to keep his appearance so colorful. He figured he might find something new to try out at least. Or such had been his first thoughts until he had heard a sound further up ahead. He wasn't certain of what it was and so he went to investigate.

When he finally got to the area he had come upon a young female attempting to scale a tree. "Wouldn't that be easier with the use of both hands?" The question was posed as he approached, only having noticed an arm having been tucked behind the girl's back and not the state of her hand that wasn't being used. "Is there something that you are after?" He asked as he looked up towards the top of the tree. After all he was quite large and tall so he might be able to reach it. Or the least he could go would be to give the girl a boost up onto the higher branches at least.

Melee had been so focused on the tree that she hadn't noticed the wolf approaching underneath. This was another instance of her naivety, that she hadn't learned to pay better attention to her surroundings yet. So it was that when Ouija spoke, she was entirely surprised. Her feet slipped midway through climbing and she started to slide down the tree. Reaching her other arm around, she hugged onto the tree. Though the hand couldn't lock onto her other hand and stabilize her descent, at least it helped slow her down a bit. Enough that she regained her footing and looked outward at the male with a bit of a scowl on her features.

"And I would think that someone on the ground would have the common sense not to surprise someone climbing a tree!" she responded. Instead of staying in the tree and awkwardly continuing to talk, she pushed off with her legs and let go of the trunk with her arms. Landing lightly on the balls of her feet, she looked at Ouija curiously. "Nothing particular up there, I was just working on climbing. It's a bit harder with only one good hand." the girl remarked, raising her deformed hand to display the reason it had been tucked behind her back.

Melee tossed her head to get her mane out of her eyes. It had gotten long lately and stuck up at odd angles most of the time. It didn't help that she was always out and about, rarely sitting still long enough to actually do anything with her hair. She tilted her head slightly to the side to level an appraising look on the stranger. "I'm Melee Soul of Ichika no Ho-en." introductions were the accurate start to a conversation, right? At least after the initial "you nearly made me fall out of a tree!" comments had gotten out of the way.

He really hadn't meant to startle her. It wasn't as if he had been trying to mask his approach or anything. He hadn't been stealthy at all to had anything to cover his scent. So really, he hadn't expected to startle her at all. Could it really be said to be his fault if she hadn't decided to pay attention to her surroundings? "I apologize, I didn't think my approach would be a surprise." He really hadn't considered that he wouldn't be noticed on some level or another, even if it was just a scent or a sound.

He watched as the girl dropped from the tree to land upon the ground. Eyes scanned over the hand that hadn't formed properly and he gave a slight nod of his head. "You shouldn't let something like that hinder you. After all you still have a good arm, right? Just use that arm as an anchor to secure around the branch and pull yourself up with the other hand." He spook with a shrug, making it seem like the solution was obvious enough. The hand couldn't be used but the arm still could at least.

"Ouija." A less than formal introduction was given. He didn't see the point of tacking on surname and pack. Where he came from it didn't hold any sort of prestige. Everyone was on the same level so only a name one wished to be addressed by was all that was needed. "I can give you a boost to start you out if you wish." After all he was above eight feet in height so he should be able to easily lift her up into the branches of the tree so that she could start out from somewhere beside the base. It would get her a bit higher at the very least.

Her ears twitched in silent acceptance of his apology as he explained that he hadn't meant to surprise her. She shrugged lightly, putting her good hand around her other arm in a sheepish gesture. That was really her fault, in the end. Usually she was attentive, but the climbing had fully occupied her attention. "Yeah, I guess it was mostly my fault for being so focused on climbing." it was as close to a "sorry for overreacting" as she could get without actually saying that. Then again, it wasn't as if she had jumped down and tried to gouge his eyes out. The girl had just scowled a bit and stated her opinion; nothing really wrong with that. Besides, they were moving on to other conversations of more interest to her.

Melee was interested and also happy that Ouija didn't think her deformed paw was a hindrance. Though its uselessness was the reason that she hadn't been trying to utilize it in some way, she wasn't ashamed of it. It pleased her that he didn't see it as a deformity or a "poor you" moment. The deformity had never slowed her down before. Her chocolate-colored ears listened as he explained what he would do. It was a good point. Perhaps her bad arm wasn't entirely useless. She still had strong muscles in that arm, the only thing she couldn't do was grab things with her hand. It didn't have the right development for that, but she had been wrong in assuming it to be entirely useless. That was a mistake that she wouldn't make again.

"Good to meet you, Ouija." she remarked with her tail wagging slightly. The words were genuine, it was already an interesting meeting. At his offering, she hesitated only momentarily. The other Luperci could very easily use the position of power - holding her up - to his advantage. Naively, though, she had a lot of faith in the goodness of other wolves. "I would appreciate that." she remarked, turning around and hoping that he would just boost her up so that she could try the new technique idea that he had recommended. Making her deformed appendage useful for once!

The large male chuckled and smiled at the female's admittance. "I can understand that. I get the same way when I am working on something." He ignored the world around him when he had some form of a project or another on his hands. He was the type to focus solely upon work until the job was completed so he really couldn't fault her for doing the exact same things as he did. Still it seemed like a rare occurrence to stumble into someone else that held the same values. Someone else who focused all of their attention on work before worrying about anything else. Most in the pack with him seemed to be rather lazy and doing nothing to actually get any sort of work done.

Why should he pity the female when she seemed well adjusted to the way that her life was. Everyone had their differences and so to him that it all that it was. Just looking at Ouija's pelt it was quite easy to tell that he wasn't exactly the display of normalcy. After all how many else were known about that went to such extremes to color themselves? After all he refused to go back to being his natural color. He did everything that he possibly could to remain varied hues all year long rather than having to resort to just being plain.

"The pleasure is all mine." The male responded with a dip of his head. It really was a pretty customary return of words for him. He could hardly think of anyone that he didn't enjoy meeting. But then again he was quite the social creature. Of course that could be because he was used to being surrounded by a number of bodies though such wasn't happening now. There were still adjustments to be made to life outside of the cult. He was learning that nothing would ever be that way again.

Once the small girl had agreed and had herself positioned he reached down in order to boost her up. He made to try and slip his hands onto her waist and tried to lift her up above his head as high as his arms could reach. "Let me know when you are up there." He said to the other since he wouldn't be able to see if she had a grip on a limb or not. He would just have to take her word on it and hope for the best. After all he didn't want to release her too early or make her feel uncomfortable by lingering too long either. He didn't want it to come off as if he were looking to take advantage or anything of the such. He was honestly out to help her reach a higher point than she had gotten to in comparison to the times that she had tried it on her own. No, he would never do anything that the female didn't want to do. He honestly couldn't understand someone that had to force their ways. It was something that he never had to do and so he would never do it either.

Melee wasn't always observant. She had grown up safely since her birth (as far as she knew) and had never had cause to be concerned about what was happening around her. This was an extreme case of her not paying attention, but mostly she focused on what she wanted to do. Her distrust of others had also not developed, because no one had ever intended her harm. Though Scorpius's mother didn't like her, that didn't mean that Naniko had come after her or anything. That was just a regular "you can't see him" bit, it wasn't really a threat... at least not a deadly one. At least, Melee didn't know that it was a lethal threat if it was. She just assumed it was a parent doing what they did best: being overprotective of their almost-grown young.

Ouija was polite and he had a neat coat coloration; she liked him instantly. Like him, though, she was a social butterfly and there were few wolves that she did not like. The girl was almost reminded of Scorpius in some ways. The thought made her smile more than she already had been. Thinking about her masked friend tended to do that to her. She didn't know what it was about him, but sometimes he made her stomach do somersaults deep down in her guts. There was something about him that she just couldn't place... something special that made her want to be near him. Mel needed to go visit him again soon. For now, though, she was content with different company.

As he lifted her up, she didn't even consider the potential inappropriate positioning of the male. Sex was something that she knew little to nothing about. She knew that it produced puppies and that she was coming of an age to potentially start desiring it. So far, nothing of the sort had happened though. Her innocent little crush on Scorpius was not sensual. It was cute and silly and young. When she reached the branch, she looked down at her pal. "Got it!" she said so that he knew he could release her. She then looped herself over the branch and sat with it between her legs. "Come on up! Let's see how high we can get..." she would help him up if needed.

The pair spent the day climbing trees and chatting. Mostly about nothing in particular and she learned he was in the same pack as Scorpius. She filed away that information for later, but did not ask pressing questions about Scorpius or Naniko. Given their secretive nature, she didn't want to make Ouija angry with her. Maybe later she could visit or see him again and ask questions. They parted ways on good terms.
