Melee was a girl of action, and her impatience had not yet been tempered by the fires of maturity. Though she held an adult rank, she was not really ready for the mantle of adulthood yet. Which was probably why she rested solidly on the Mui rank instead of reaching a Specialized position. She aspired to receive a Specialist position - she aimed for the forecaster rank - on her first birthday. It wasn't something that she had discussed as of yet with anyone who could help her achieve that goal, though. The earth-toned girl kept her desires to herself, internalizing the pressure to achieve. In the end, this was a foolish way to go about things. Those that might be able to help her were unaware of her aims, deadlines, and goals. How then were they to assist? It was just another marker of her youth and inexperience that she thought she should do everything herself.

Her aim to do everything herself was also why she was out at the Broken Arrow Ranch today. For once, the girl was in her lupus form. It was easier to crouch against the grass that brushed her stomach when she wasn't standing tall. With her body pressed to the ground and her ears raised, she observed the horses of her pack. In a normal circumstance, the pressure of her gaze might have concerned a prey creature. As it was, the Ichikan horses were accustomed to the comings and goings of Luperci. They were complacent and undisturbed that Melee was watching them. Placidly, they clipped grass blades with their blunted teeth, chewing them into mush before swallowing.

Melee was growing bored of just crouching there, her muscles were getting tired of the awkward positioning, but she refused to give up. She was sure that by observing these pack owned horses, she could figure out how to catch one of her own in the wild. Her stubborn determination to do this on her own was the reason she had not yet sought out Saul to assist her. He would have been the perfect companion on a venture to capture a horse, but she was set on learning how to do it herself. All of the secrets that she thought she would observe with their own herd were not forthcoming, though. They just... stood there and ate. She was tempted to try and "catch" one of the horses of the pack, just to practice how to do it. Somehow she didn't think her packmates would appreciate her frightening their horses. The horses wouldn’t appreciate it either, and would likely remember her transgression. So that was off the table.

Soon enough, she would decide that she was tired of watching boring horses eat their boring grass, after which she would go off to do something else. For now, though, her bi-toned gaze was locked on the herd. Waiting for them to do something that would be worth learning for her horse capturing expedition. That was probably never going to happen, but she could dream!

I'm going by the date of the first post for when this happens, thus before the barn raising thread. optime form. | +323

The Broken Arrow Ranch came into view as he walked through the woods. He had heard the barn there had some damage from age and neglect from the lack of occupancy and Temo wanted to take a look at it. As he approached the barn, he could see some of the critters that lived there out in their pastures munching away at the grass that was trying to grow. Some looked up and eyed him as he walked past, making sure he was not after them then went back to keeping the grass from growing too tall.

As he circled around and finally spied where the roof had caved in, he knew that it would not be an easy repair. After studying the hole for a bit, he went around and opened the door enough to look in. "Hello?" he queried into the building wondering if the caretakers was inside. With no answer but his own voice echoing back at him, and no animals loose inside, he opened the door wider and stepped in.

The dust danced in the beams of sunlight as he moved down to the damaged portion of the barn. Temo looked at the pile of debris that littered the floor under the hole. He poked at bits of the wood with a claw testing how rotten they were. He found a pole nearby and poked at the roof around the hole testing how rotten the beams and roofing was. When he was done, he put the pole back where he found it and exited the barn making sure to close and latch the door the way he found it. "This is no easy job," he muttered to himself, "will take me several weeks to fix that hole." he continued muttering to himself as he started down the path away from the barn, the animals looking at him hoping he had brought food from the barn.

Sounds good to me. Thanks so much for joining! Big Grin

The girl was focused on what she was doing and at first she ignored Temo's approach. Of course he wasn't really trying to approach her anyway, he was just going about his business in the pack lands and happened to be near where she crouched. She was observing the horses still with keen bi-toned eyes when he went into the stables. As the carpenter, it made sense that he would want to check and see what kind of work Broken Arrow Ranch still needed to be at its best. Melee wasn't really familiar with the male, though. She knew who he was and had met him a few times, but she had never really made a point to get to know him. Mostly because he was in a different part of his life. He had a mate and an adult rank, it felt hard to relate to someone in such a different lifestyle. Not that she couldn't talk to him, but she wasn't inclined to seek him out either.

When he started walking back down the pathway directly behind her, she turned to look. He seemed to be talking to himself. His Optimus form certainly did cause more distress or interest among the horses. They snorted and curved their heads to gaze at him. A distract-and-catch method might be successful. Their wide nostrils flared as they gazed at Temo, but none of them had realized she was there still. That was good. They were more sight oriented than scent oriented, she thought. Either that or they just didn't care that she was there because she wasn't doing anything interesting. Melee thought she had learned as much from them right now as she could, though. So it was that she stood up and loped toward Temo, woofing to catch his attention.

Then the horses looked at her, drawn by the sound. They went back to what they had been doing after a short time, though, uninterested in the pair of canines that wasn't approaching them. "Namaste!" Melee couldn't make the hand gesture necessary to fully use this Ichikan gesture of greeting, but at least she had the verbal part. It was somewhat odd to be in Lupus form while he was in Optime, but she didn't mind too much. Even if it did mean she had to look quite a ways up.

ugh, crappy writing | +222

Although no one had said anything to him or ask about it, he knew someday they would need that space in the barn as their collection of farm animals grew. As he proceeded up the path from the barn, Temo's mind was busy visualizing through all that would need to be done to fix the barn.

Because his mind was on something else, he did not notice the focus of the horses change from him to another wolf that was running across the field to him. It was his ears that picked up the "woof, woof" that pulled his attention to his surroundings. He then saw the horses had their attention on the running wolf and he then realized she was heading for him.

temo stopped and waited for the other to catch up, thoughts going through his head as to why. No one usually seeks him out unless something happened. He hoped nothing is wrong as he waited. It took him a moment to remember that it was the greeting she used when she arrived and looked up at him. "Namaste" he returned the greeting. "What can I do for you?" he continued as he looked down at her thinking that since he and Jace had joined the pack, he seemed to be in optime form more nowadays.

That was not crappy. Sorry about my delay! Sad

It was somewhat strange to be on four legs when someone else was on two. It made her feel like she was a whelp again, because she was so much farther down than him. This was the kind of scene that a human might have expected to see: a loyal canine companion beside a two-legged one. Although they wouldn't have anticipated that both would have the faces of wolves, natural enemies of farmers back in the day. Now they were the farmers and the artisans and the workmen. It was pretty certain that they wouldn't have called the idea that wolves would be the leaders of the world after their demise. Although who they would have picked in the wolves' stead, Melee didn't know. Perhaps they would have picked dogs, because they were more familiar with the domesticated canine. Whatever the case, they would have been incorrect if they did not select the wolven kind. It made her wonder, sometimes, who would follow them as the superior race. Perhaps it would be felines?

Back to reality: at Temo's question, she lolled out her tongue and rolled her shoulders. It was a more awkward, different kind of move when she was in her lupus form. She wasn't in a form that was well-suited to shrugging. "I was just going to come over and say hello. I haven't had time to really get to know you, and since we're packmates now and all, I thought it would be good. How is your mate?" she asked with politely perked ears. That was about the extent of what she knew about Temo: he was an adult male, he had a mate. Actually, she wasn't even sure if she knew what his official rank was. It wasn't something that she recalled very well unless she saw someone actually attending their duties.

I had forgotten all about this thread. so sorry. | +219

At first, with a tilt to his head and ears forward, it was a quizzical look that Temo used to look at Melee with. This was mainly because he was not used to having others seek him out just to say hello. Through most of his life, It had been his experience that when someone actively sought him out, they were in need of something, probably because he tended to be a bit of a recluse, and it was fortunate that he was trying to reverse that at Jace's urging.

His expression changed to a happier one and he smiled down at the other that was at his feet. "Ahh, Hello. It is good to meet you." he replied and not at all surprised that she probably knew Jace. He was not as outgoing as others and was not in the habit of seeking out others like Jace will do. "Jace is doing fine."

With a chuckle, "It is a good idea to know everyone and it is a big pack spread out over a large area and even I have not met everyone yet," he said. Continuing the conversation, "How are you doing this fine day?" he asked Melee in an effort not to be an introvert. Jace had been wanting him to meet everyone.
