the artifical flowers are wilting

Set in early evening.
Ever is 47 days pregnant and lightly showing.

Small, fragile, sere hands gripped pearl white fingers, squeezing gently and pulling in her direction. Soft footfalls echoed damply and then silenced gradually as the two lovers moved by quickly. Leaves shifted on the ground under their weight, making unsure ground. The shadows were lengthening between the thick trunks of spruce and the early afternoon light created golden speckles along the forest floor through the tree canopy. Each step took them deeper into the darkening woods behind the beach, surrounding them with bird song and softer animal noises, leaving the melody of the sea behind.

Ever stopped suddenly, her dark sky blue dress swaying in a complaint with the halt of motion. Ocean eyes turned to set on disheveled ones, shadowy fingers reaching up to touch the black and white face of the man. Her thumb danced faintly along Ezra’s cheek bone and down to his jaw, barely leaving a trace of her pressure. Before she reached his muzzle or onward to his neck she began backing away into the shadows before emerging in a clearing.

Strictly speaking, where the girl now stood, could hardly be called a clearing. It was misshapen with brightly tinted leaves adorning branches sticking towards them like greedy fingers in all directions. Along the edges were stumps and a few fallen trees, the trunks half dilapidated after years of solitude. Ever placed her hands on the bi-colored man barely grazing into his chest fur with her claws before she was swept away as if on the breeze. She ended up on the other side of the clearing, where she gracefully bowed before her mate and stripped herself of the clothing that would only succeed in slowing her down. Ribs showed through lamb-fur despite the slight bump forming in her abdomen area, still slight enough to be pleasant to the eye.

Teach me, Ezra,

The silver hybrid said to the forest air. Until then, she hadn’t uttered a word. Talking had never been her strong point.

Come at me,

Ever said again, tilting her head and giving out an amused expression. She knew she must have looked innocent, vulnerable, standing in the dying sunlight with a stomach barely protruding with the man’s life. Her sweet, melodic voice was soon over taken with miniscule rustles and the sounds of flapping only heard by sensitive ears.

Ever’s pregnancy made the willowy woman look even more beautiful than before. This was a hard task considering how striking she was beforehand. Knowing that little life forms were growing in her tiny belly made the man beam with pride at his mate. He loved her with every breath in his body, and the knowledge that they were starting a family soon made the man nothing but cheerful all day long. The idea was first unexpected, but Ezra found himself daydreaming of the children he was going to have more and more often. Every day he found a little more energy to become a father.

The two lovers were spending yet another day together, choosing to walk among the trees in the Kingdom’s territory in the evening. The weather had been perfect for a light stroll so the hybrid was delighted at the idea of a romantic walk. Silence had wrapped itself around the mates, but they were so comfortable with each other that it didn’t even matter. Words weren’t necessary between them; that realization made Ezra’s heart ache for her even more than it already did. True love was an incredible experience.

However, his dainty pregnant lady chose to break the silence with another of her feisty ideas. Ezra knew what she wanted to learn, and the idea wasn’t entirely appealing. It made Ezra nervous. “Ever…” the man said quietly, a look of unease gracing his features. “I don’t want to hurt you, especially now,” Some light sparring would probably be fine. It could even be fun. Going against his gut, the man grinned, and readied his body for a charge. He knew Ever wouldn’t listen to him if she wanted to do something.

She didn’t know much about being pregnant. Hardly anything. So the whole process was difficult on both mates. The slight bump that disrupted her fragile clipped body had created unwanted space between them. It worried the girl slightly that even when she birthed Ezra might not want her or the kids. The thoughts kept coming, even after he had assured her everything was going to be right. Her hormones were raging and there was a conflicting battle always clashing in her mind.

Ever’s hand was still warm from her touch on Ezra’s face. Their walk had been silent until recently. Occasionally, she had caught his glance, but that was all that had happened. Things were still slightly tense, and perhaps going at each other would be a good way to solve it. However, that was just a theory.

Just be gentle,

The silver hybrid responded, placing a ashy hand on her protruding abdomen, feeling a slight twinge from the pressure. She was so sensitive these days, but trusted Ezra with her life and knew he wouldn’t even try to hurt her.

A feral expression rapidly replaced the bi-colored man’s unsteady one. His voice wrapped around her like a hand, but his stature soon changed to one less welcoming. Her body flinched involuntarily, a flicker of doubt crossing her face. Ocean blue eyes frosted into ice as she became alert. Hand slipped from her stomach and rested slightly on her side, once again exposing softly showing ribs.
