For Gabriel; Set for late afternoon

Even after the raid, Cypress had not abandoned his plan. Ever since the talk he had with Anu about his father the boy had decided it was long time he sought out his sire. He deserved to know the man from whose blood he had been forged. Perhaps if he brought word of his mother's capture to his father he would send aid to the lands of the Aniwayans to return her to them . But it was a better understanding of his father, and himself, that he had truly been after when he had first put together his plans. Cypress even been considering that perhaps the lands of his sire would be suited for the brown and sable wolf than those of his dam. Simply, Cypress was just looking for his place in this world. He was looking for himself and he was not sure that Crimson Dreams was necessarily the best place for him. There was anger in him. A fire that he could not envision in gentle mother and had never witnessed in his brothers.

He had still not out grown his fear of the dark and so he had waited for the moon to grow full in night sky before he dared to venture to the far off lands of his father. He knew it would take him a couple days at least, for he did not exactly know the route to the Inferni borders. Cypress had never been one to venture far from the borders, yet with the morning sun rising before him as he set out for the lands he knew laid somewhere to the far north east. Taking nothing with him, he would have to hunt small game on his way.

The light from the full moon had kept the trip from being too stressful on the youth, but he was still a bundle of nerves by the time he had reached the inferni borders. So far from the only home he had ever known and all alone in a territory he did not know. He swallowed a heavy lump in his throat as he looked at the skull lined borders, ears pressed pack and his tail hung limply between his legs. This was not what he had expected to find. Though it was far too late to turn back now, he had not come all this way for nothing. And the boy was determined to once again met the father he hardly knew. He tilted back his head, a deep tenor tone called for the man he knew to his father, leader of the Infernians.

Forever. The promise weighed heavily on him, and it stared back at him in the small bundle of fur that grew by the day. He had been grateful for the help of the jackal woman, who was slowly identifying words for what they were. She usually spoke the odd, gracefully flowing tongue that Enkiel shared with her. The pup was still young enough that he needed milk, but Talitha was already distancing herself from the pup. He was different—he was of ill blood and had no place here.

Yet Gabriel could not let his grandson be killed for being what he was, and so he had taken the child under his protection. No one, not even the mad-dog she called a mate, would impute this. It was not as if the child was ever alone, either, and Gabriel did not feel nervous about short hunting trips. He was returning from one now, a rabbit in his mouth and another settling in his belly. Things might have proceeded differently if he had not been out; Lord knew if his daughter caught this son, as she had the other, he would not have made it past the borders.

Luck was with the boy, and Gabriel turned his path in order to heed the call. He had met Cypress only once before, but it was familiar none the less. Gabriel trotted wolfishly towards the young man, the walk that of a man who still commanded others. The rabbit was dropped between Gabriel’s feet as he eyed the blue-eyed boy. He had Anu’s eyes. “Cypress, what are you doing here?”

The empty sockets of the mounted skulls seemed to stare at the young wolf as he waited. Growing ever more anxious as the time ticked away with only the sun bleached and painted skulls as company. The minutes seemed to stretch on for far longer than they ought to be capable of as the youth stood alert. Eyes and ears searching for the sounds of someone approaching and even though it had not really been all that long at all Cypress began to wonder if he would answered at all. Surely he had not come all this way for nothing.

He was excited and anxious, but as his audits picked up the swift footsteps of approach he felt the sudden stab of nervousness that he hadn't even realized was there. For the first time his mind considered the option that perhaps his father would not wish to see him. Such thoughts were pushed to the back of his mind to sit and nag at him from there as his excitement bubbled forth as he caught the first few glimpses of his father form trotting through the terrain. His tail wagged happy and excitedly behind him as he dared to edge closer to the scent marked borders to greet his father. His head was low and level with his shoulders as ears pressed forward eagerly, eyes bright. "To see you, father. I was hoping I could stay for awhile." The confidence in his voice faded at the end, hoping he would not simply be sent back home, unwanted. "I'd like to get to know you, better than just what momma has told us." He hoped in the end it would shed some light on why he often felt so misplaced in the lands of the Dreamers. Maybe this was home, though the skulls had already begun to tarnish the boyish dream.

The boy grew more serious; the excited features of his face falling away and the boy looked at the ground a moment before looking back to the man he so much resembled. "Also, I thought you should know of the Aniwayans. Their leadership has changed and several days ago they raided our lands in the middle night." He thought it too blunt to state right away that his mother had been taken as well as that he sought assistance in seeing her brought home. But that was not the only reason he had come and he did not want his father to think it was the first and only thing to bring his estranged son to his borders.

It had been Gabriel who had brought back the tradition of the skulls, a gift from Scintilla. For the few who defied the warning, they were justly dealt with—one of these, in particular, had belonged to a fool of a wolf that took it upon himself to break others. They had fewer now than they had before, but Gabriel believed the message was clear enough. While wolfish shadows crossed him from the bleached bones, he stared at his son and wondered just what it was that had driven him so far north.

The answer, as it was given, was met with a severe frown. He had abandoned his home to find out more about his absentee father. Not only that, but he had abandoned them during a raid. “You should be at home protecting your mother,” he said sternly. Anu was hardly a warrior, and the fact that an aggressive band of wolves was attacking their pack made faint worry build in him. “I don’t mind if you stay, but you cannot join Inferni—and my son will need to allow you further in; he leads this clan now.” A dull warning came with his tone; Ezekiel might not turn the boy away, but the coyote had been restless lately, and his moods were unpredictable. Still, this would give them information on what was occurring in the south; though far beyond their borders, a weakness could be exploited none the less.

Dark ears pulled back and pressed tightly against his skull as the deep frown spread over the face of his father. His head hung low in shame as the scolding words fell over him. His sire was right, but it was too late. He had already failed. Already proved to be of no use to his tawny mother now. "They took her. The raiders took her and another captive before they retreated. I failed her." Sorrow and anger mingled in his tone, though he spoke softly of his failure. It was all he ever seemed to do, to bring his mother disappointment. Anu would not agree perhaps, but that was how Cypress saw himself.

Ears perked a little when Gabriel said he did not mind if he stayed, but his next words filled the boy with confusion, for more reasons than just one. Questions of a family he did not know flooded his mind, but for now he held them. It did not feel as if this was the time nor place for such a bombardment and so he gave only a simple nod of understanding. Though his surprise was clear as day on his face. Having yet to learn how to keep his emotions under the surface.

We can keep this short and have the new one right before Cypress leaves, if you want. Smile

Almost as suddenly as he had announced his admittance did Gabriel regret it. Captured? Anu had been captured and Cypress had come here? A ripple of fury showed on his face, running along the dark fur that made up his hackles. For an instant, he considered sending the boy away—but what good would it do? “Then you should return soon,” he said flatly, holding his temper in check. While he did not love Anu as he loved Alaine, the woman was a dear friend despite the distance between them.

“Come on, I’ll take you to the Mansion. Ezekiel will be there at some point, and we’ll speak to him then.” Without waiting for a response, he picked the rabbit up and began heading inward. His pace was quick, agitated. If things had gone so terrible in the south, what did that mean for Alaine, for his son and daughter to her? For Anu, and her children?

sounds good!

He had not known what else to do. Cypress found he had not been able to do anything to stop them from taking her, even as it had unfolded right before his eyes. Watching the dark masked wolf of AniWaya drag her away. Rage and fear had boiled in his blood at the sight, but he had even been able to reach her before she and her capture vanished into the night. Even if he had, what could he have done? Cypress was not a fighter, the only fights he had even been in was simple rough housing with his brother.

With Anu gone it felt like his world was falling apart. Where else was he suppose to turn? Others had went to the closer packs and he had already planned this venture, now it had a dual cause. But as rage washed over his father features, he doubted himself and the choice he had made. Even taking a step back, recognizing the anger he saw in father as something he had often felt himself. Though his father showed a masters control, where Cypress was still struggling to get a grip on the emotion.

A simple, silent nod was all that was given once more before quickly following after his father. It had not exactly been the warm welcome he might have hoped for, but he would be allowed to stay, if only for a few days. It was enough for the boy and perhaps he could still find help for his mother and his pack. Though he was looking in perhaps the most unlikely of places.

Another post from you and I'll reply and kinda sum up Zeke coming in. Do you want to start the next thread or should I?

With the easy lope of a wolf, Gabriel headed inward and towards the mansion. Even if Ezekiel was not there, he had other business to attend to and one way or another Cypress would be found out. Anu’s son was someone he had not expected to see—he had been very plain to her about their place in the world. They were too wolfish to live in Inferni, especially since Ezekiel and Talitha had begun changing the place to best suit their own image. With paranoid leaders, how could a wolf expect to find safety here? It was a joke. If he survived Ezekiel, who often took pity on blood, he would not live through Talitha. Lord forbid if he found Halo, or Hybrid.

They were lucky and encountered no one through the ancient forest that Gabriel moved through, skirting up and along a honeysuckle overgrown fence. He turned into the arched opening and made his way through this back gate towards the Guest House. No-colored paws carried him up the steps and into the building, assuming that Cypress would follow behind. Another turn brought him to the door that was his room, which was shut. A single shove with his nose opened it, whereupon it woke the sleeping pup. Cern, smelling the rabbit, squirmed out from under his pile of blankets and trappings and toddled towards his grandfather with little concern for the stranger.

idc who starts, but if you'd like me to start can you at least choose the setting for it xD it'd help me out greatly

Cypress followed silently in the wake of his father. Careful not to be left behind he took in what he could of the forest as they cut through it. The pace Gabriel set was easy for him to keep up with, even on unfamiliar trails, though it left little time for taking in the sights and scents of the unknown forest. The best the youth could do was take note of recognizable land marks so that if he ended up out alone he would might have a chance of finding his way back. Whatever way he might be headed.

He slowed and fell behind a few steps as they came along the overgrown fence. There were so many scents and while canine they differed from the wolf scents Cypress was accustomed too. Upon realizing he was lagging behind the youth quickly ran to catch up with his father several paces ahead as he turned the corner of the fence and headed for the back gateway. Blue eyes stared in wonder at the large mansion, not unlike the Manor back home. Was this place really as different as his mother had said? Though the thought was quickly lost as he followed his sire into the guest, though he paused in the doorway, given no sign that he should stop or wait the boy followed.

He paused again at Gabriel's door, feet halting all together as the round form of the puppy came waddling across the floor. His coloring was odd and Cypress tilted his head in his confusion before giving his father a questioning look. Though he did not voice any questions, the ones that ran through his mind where countless. Where was his mother? Was this another unknown brother like the one mentioned at the borders? Why were his colorings so odd? He felt many of them were rude and few of them were any of his business on any account. What was obvious was the child was in his father's care and for that alone he felt a pang of jealously.

I'll start. Smile Expect a PM soon.

There was a very real difference between Inferni and Crimson Dreams, which Gabriel had recognized as Anu’s reasoning to keep the boys. They had no place here, no hope for a home. Wolves belonged with wolves. Not one of them had his eyes, though they had gained his strength and his coat, and this was enough to tell him that they belonged to her.

It was with no grace that Gabriel dropped his meal. The pup was hungry and swiftly, whimpering and yipping, he shoved his nose into the dark hybrid’s face. What food had been digested was brought up and consumed by the child. There was no time for it to touch the floor. Cern had an undying hunger, which was why the second hare had been brought back. As the boy continued to stumble about the older male’s paws, Gabriel looked back up to his son. “This is your nephew,” he explained flatly. “Ezekiel should be by soon, you can explain yourself to him then.”

OOC ENDING
About half an hour later Ezekiel returns to the Mansion. He is short with Cypress, but allows him to remain for a few days. Like Gabriel, he warns the wolf about wandering alone, and leaves without spending much time with his half-brother.
