History: When Finch was still a very small puppy, a rabid lone wolf attacked his parent’s den. It killed his brother. Kaylin and mortally wounded his father before the two adult coyotes could drive it away. His father died, and his mother became just a little bit insane.

Finch learned to speak before any of his siblings, but showed little interest in most of the games they played. He started storytelling almost at the same time he learned to talk. Finch collected stories, and was especially fond of ironic or humorous tales. He was extremely good at finding the humor in life. When he laughed, the rest of his small family usually had no idea what he was laughing about. They mostly figured he was crazy. Mara tried to teach all of her puppies to despise wolves, but the lessons never really seemed to affect Finch.

When the litter was one, Skrill killed Haela. All three coyotes were down at the river, fishing with spears. Maybe mild insanity ran in the family, because Skrill suddenly shoved Haela into the river. The fast current dragged her under and swept her downstream, where she drowned. Finch burst out laughing, of course. A moment later, however, Skrill stabbed his spear through Finch’s stomach. His mother found him there an hour later, still alive, but Skrill was nowhere to be found.

After Finch had recovered, he set out to find a more exciting life. At night, of course, while his mother was sleeping. Wouldn’t want her to tear him apart to stop him from leaving her. Eventually, Finch found the Inferni, and recognized the name from what his mother had told him. He joined, mostly because he didn’t have any better ideas.
