Of Deer and Ichika

TOO LAZY FOR TABLES. D:<

The prospect of chasing deer was making her entire body shake violently. She really wanted to go get in the mud and muck, right in the middle of the trampling feet, snapping and growling. There was danger in chasing deer, and danger in being in front of those hooves and antlers. However, Tawny would do whatever she had to do to rip the life out of one of the beasts. Bloodlust was something that had surprised her the first time she had taken down a deer by herself. It was addicting and she wanted to do it again and again.

The call came shortly after they had found their positions in the dark shadows of foliage. As soon as she sensed Jace moving, the smaller girl darted forward and burst through the bushing. Growling and barking in an odd wolfish way, she snapped her teeth at the ankles of any deer that got in her way. The simple creatures were flipping out completely, running as fast as they possibly could, stumbling and running into plants and other debris of the forest. It wasn’t long before Tawny could smell the Ichikans laying in wait. However much she wanted to leap up and land herself on the back of the buck running in front of her, she was growing tired from the chase.

The sights and sounds of canines leaping from the brush was a shock, but she quickly realized what was going on and slid herself to a stop. Giving the left over deer room to run away and trotting closer to the ones that were being taken down. Groaning softly, she sank to the ground and stretched out, jaws parting in a huge yawn that showed off her sharp white teeth. Rolling onto her back, she kicked her paws into the air and yipped happily. There would be delicious fresh meat to eat soon, and then perhaps she’d be able to snuggle with Jace for a while before going home…

The signal was given and forwards she moved, her team at her back like a well oiled machine. She may be leading the chasers but that didn't mean she would be taking part in the actual bringing down and killing of an animal. No the fae was far too scared of being injured to go in for a kill of her own and she carried a cargo far too precious to even consider the prospect of being kicked or gored, for now she was content with chasing the silly creatures. The others were welcomed to assist if they wanted and she would not stop any of them from participating.

Growls and deep barks came from her maw to scare the deer into taking to their hooves and fleeing. She couldn't deny that the exercise and chance to stretch her legs was exhilarating. As soon as she saw that the others had brought one of the deer down the hybrid slowed her graceful loping into a soft trot and finally a leisurely walk, her services were no longer needed it seemed. With a huff of breath she let herself drop to the ground next to Tawny, pressing her scarred body against the brown woman's side and sniffed at her to make sure she was okay.

With a wolfish smile she darted her head forwards and nipped at the brown one's ear gently before leaping to her feet and dashing away at full speed, barking laughter echoing from between her jaws.

Eyes scanned over the terrain noting tree and bush locations and how the ground flowed through the area. Temo pondered how the deer would react to the others chasing them and where they would run to. The one thing he knew for sure was that even with all the studying and planning, it all came down to luck in having a deer end up in the right spot. The most one can do is try and hedge the odds in one's favor.

Temo decided on a likely hiding spot that was covered by some underbrush and next to a likely route for deer that are terrified and running away from danger. He made his way over to the spot and crawled under the bush and wriggled around. He scratched at the humus with his claws digging them into solid ground for traction when he made his leap and settled in making sure there would not be any branches that might snag on him when he leaps out for the attack.

He did not have to wait long before he heard the signal to start the chase and close behind he heard the pounding of cloven hooves draw near as Jace and the others that followed her chased the deer into the jaws of their trap. His muscles tensed and bunched up under his fur as his vision narrowed down to see only the approaching deer.

His focus turned onto one medium sized doe that made the decision to run by him. A decision that will soon prove fatal to the doe when, all at once like a mighty spring, his tensed muscles released launching him out of the brush. Spooked by the sudden movement, the deer tried to jump away, but it was too late as the Temo's jaw clamped down onto the doe's neck and began applying pressure that would crush the windpipe.

The doe put up a valiant fight leaping around trying to dislodge the wolf that was hanging on with teeth and claws. but it was all in vain as asphyxiation soon took over and the deer tired out and sank to the ground and Temo stood over the carcass, his jaws still clamped on the neck waiting for the dying gasps that would not bring air into the deer's lungs stopped. Blood from a jugular that was severed during the struggle dripped from his mouth as he panted from the excursion.

Wretch has never done this and kind of freaks out a bit >_> / +yo numbah!

She sat at the ready, silence settling around the group of canines that had chosen to stay behind and ambush. This was a good choice for the girl with her bum leg...she could use it to leap out and chase for a short distance, but other than that Wretch wasn't certain how much of a help she could be. She'd try and use what she already knew about the animal's anatomy when she made her decision where to strike. The neck was a vulnerable place, and the haunches...but if she made her way to the rear of the beast she would have to watch for hooves. She'd never been in a big hunt like this, but felt ready enough for her part in it. She mentally psyched herself up a bit as she waited in the brush, bright blue eyes fixed on the clearing ahead.

The girl managed to wound one as it flew by her in a flurry of movement, but it would appear that that was all that she would be able to contribute. It had all happened too quickly for her to even look back and see what Jaden was doing. She finally looked back to Jaden afterward, unsure if he was going after a deer or not. One was down, then two - the desired number. She trotted toward Temo to lend him her weight, helping to hold the deer down as best she could while it struggled in its last few moments of life. Wretch didn't know what else she could have done...everything had happened so quickly. She panted as the rush of adrenaline began to leave her, looking between Temo and the warm carcass beneath her.

Words – 300+

The deer came quickly. A thunder of hooves accompanied by the barks and snarls of wolves was an easy indication of what was to come. Jaden lay in wait, perfectly content in the spot he had chosen to take near the outskirts of the clearing. Deer after deer entered the forest, but none leapt within range of Jaden. From where he was, he watched as Temo took down one. Wretch must have been taken by the hunt for she didn’t stick to the plan requested by Jaden. Instead, she bounded into the herd and managed to wound one or two deer but not nab one for herself. Jaden scoffed to himself. What else was there to expect from a coyote? So now he would be left to kill one himself. Easy enough.

A victim appeared suddenly from the clearing. It bounded crazily into tree cover and watched horridly as Temo choked the life from one of it’s herd mates. It didn’t notice the large Alaskan sitting in the brush. When she felt the presence of his large form it was too late. Jaden leapt forward and slammed into the doe with a jarring impact, sinking his large teeth into the deer’s tender neck. The force of his pounce cast them both into the flora as the doe helplessly kicked at the brute. Her flailing kept Jaden struggling to get a foot hold for a few seconds as blood welled in his muzzle. The crimson was irresistible! With its warm persuasion, the Shishen found a foot hold and violently shook his jaws back and forth. The doe fell silent as its neck was broken and Jaden held on until he was sure the animal’s life had fled.

With only a short break to catch his breath, he then pulled the dead doe toward where Temo had taken down his. The dragging was difficult and Jaden ended up settling for near Temo than next to him and sat above his kill, waiting for his pack mates to dig in.

Jaden does. "Jaden speaks." Jaden thinks.
