It had been a few days since she had wandered to Aniwaya and then found herself the victim of a monstrous man. Nayati had been hurt; he had a concussion, among other things. Sunki was hurt, too. But most of her wounds were not on her skin. Regardless of her internal paints, the pale woman took a bigger empty gourd with her, as well as a flint and tinder, and a small leather pouch. She wanted to wash away the disgust she felt on her skin, even if she had bathed daily since the day. Sometimes twice. She had told her brother to stay still and to relax. Hard for him to do, she knew, but it would be better if he did not risk injury. And as his headache continued, she told him she had the right. She also made him drink sedative teas, especially lavender.

But Sunki still felt unclean. The tears had long since stopped coming, and there was a grimness about her that had never been there before. She had taken to wearing her thicker skirt now, feeling exposed. At the water's edge, she stripped of it, hanging it on a higher branch. She had chosen a spot where the water got deeper closer to shore for convenience. Sunki slipped into the cold water, relishing the feeling of it. The water soaked into her pelt, and she rubbed at her fur. She was eager to get the feeling of dirty out, but she had no soap to use. She had to find out how to make some; it would be so useful.

She rubbed at her shoulders, submerged halfway up her upper arms. Sunki watched the water rippling out around her as she ran fingers through her free flowing hair, the golden blond strands on top of the water.
