For Artemis; Dated 8/19, after this thread.

The surface of the lake shimmered under the rays of the after noon sun. Reflecting its golden hues as the gentle fingers of wind rippled the surface in miniature waves that left its surface ever changing. Cypress often found the familiar lake shore to be something a sanctuary. A safe harbor where he often went to sort through his thoughts. After his encounter with Alder he had thought a walk along the lake’s edge would help to cool his temper. The troubled blue depths of his eyes mirrored the tides of his emotions. Alder had ignited his anger practically the moment he had set foot within Crimson Dreams. His masked brother had some nerve. He had not been here the night Anu had been taken from them, he had not right to judge Cypress for his own absence now. Where had his eldest brother on the night of the raid? He had certainly been of no help to their mother, then or now. Mother.. The mottled brown youth's feet halted. His anger had given way to his concern for his mother.

Anu.

Cypress had trusted that Savina would have gotten her back home by now. Even after the failed parley. He had expected he would find his mother safe and comfortable in her room within Haven Manor. He had put faith in that hope. He did not what more he could for her, but to be strong for her and put trust in patience and hope. Trust in Savina. That was what Anu had thought her sons, but without her here to light the path with her gentle guidance Cypress felt lost. He had to believe she would come home. They would get her back. They must.

The roof of the manor could be seen in the distance, but he didn't feel like going back quite yet. It felt less like home knowing his Mother's presence was absent. Fear for her threatened to take root in his heart. Troubled eyes staring out across the calm waters of the lake. How he wished the blue his eyes could mirror the calm waters, his own mind become so serene. Instead it was flooded with concern and regrets. He did not know what he should do, what he could of done, or what he might have to do. So he sat silent and still at the shore. Tail curled around his feet as he stared out over the waters.

I couldn't decide, happy or angry table. x.x; 300+

The silver-painted Princess of the Dreamers felt sickened by everything that had been going on in her home lately. On a personal level, she was getting better, stronger in more ways than she thought she could possibly count. Her only true worries had been whether or not Cypress was okay, wherever he was, though maybe she was just projecting her concern for Crimson Dreams onto him. She did not know why she was so frightened and hurt by his absence. The Marino girl wished he would have at least said something to her before disappearing without so much as a wave.

As it had been since she had woken from her slumber in February, the lake remained her constant rock. Artemis spent most of her time there, perhaps too much time. She had met many on the shores there, most recently Liliana and her two young children. When she did not know what to do with herself, or when she had things to think about, the lake was her first destination. Sometimes she sat with her toes in the water, sometimes she skipped rocks, and sometimes she simply watched the way the wind rippled the water.

It was the lake that had heard her troubles, her sorrows, her worries, her fears. It was the lake she went to now, filled with worry for the friend she had noticed was missing. As she approached, however, soft blue eyes narrowed as she saw him sitting there. Artemis almost did not believe it, but his scent was unmistakable, tainted though it was by many foreign smells now. With her hands on her hips, the Marino girl marched to where he sat, looking down at him with cat-like slits instead of eyes. "Where the hell have you been?" she asked in the typically loud voice associated with her heritage.

The run in with Alder had left Cypress a little shaken, though it was not the bitter defeat to his brother that troubled him most. Oh, but he was bitter and he would not admit to Alder or anyone else that he had been wrong in going to Gabriel. While it had not proved to be the most hopeful it was better that sitting around and doing nothing. Just waiting, while nothing was as it should be. Anu was not home as he hoped and the peaceful lands of his home had been tainted. Cast in the shadow of war. Cypress could not understand what the tribe wanted from them. While he knew it was the Utina’s that they had been after, but surely that’s not all there was to all this. What drove individuals to war, to hate and discriminate. His father too had spoken of war and the hardships that the coyote clan had faced that lead to their prejudices. The concept of unconditional hate was so foreign to him. It was not how Anu had thought her sons to view the world. He could understand small skirmishes for he was no stranger to anger. Yet the only time he had ever felt it boil to the point were he felt capable of truly harming another had been the night he watched his mother being dragged away by the black faced monster.

His thoughts had enveloped him as he stared out over the familiar waters that he had so greatly missed in the few days he had been gone. He had hoped to find happiness and light here. Like that which he had known the year of his birth. Winter had brought so many hardships to his pack and just when it felt they had been able to shed the pain that had come with the storm, Artemis’ fall and Denali’s death they were now cast into an unprovoked war. Would things ever truly get better? His thoughts were interrupted as a boisterous voice called out, bringing a smile to his face before he had even turned to face the silver princess. There was an odd flutter in his gut, though he had learned to ignore the slight feeling and he was suddenly aware that like the lake, he had also missed Artemis in the few days he had been gone. But as he faced her, his smile faltered and she did not look so pleased to see him as she glared at him with her hands on her hips and like an idiot Cypress just looked at her confused, unable to recognize her concern for him for what it was. ”Hi, Missa. I went to see my father.” He said rather simply for he had multiple reasons for making the trip to Inferni. ”Is something wrong?” he asked as his expression grew a little concerned. Thinking that something must be bothering her but too dense to realize that his unannounced departure might have had anything to do with it.

Playing it like she doesn't know who is father is... Because I'm pretty sure she doesn't. xD; If she does, we'll pretend she forgot.

The question of who his father was had never crossed Artemis' mind, such as it were, and she had never pictured him running off to find him. Unlike others, she did not hold it against him that he was gone and Anu had been captured. The Dreamer princess was angry that he hadn't told her where he was going, or that he was even going to be gone in the first place! It would have been much better if he had just told her, honestly. Soft blue eyes narrowed at the simple way he answered the demanding question she had asked, then asked one of his own. He should know!

"I was worried about you!" she responded, again very loudly, tossing her hands up in the air in a gesture of extremely exaggerated exasperation. The silver-dappled girl did not know why she had been so worried, and now that she knew he was okay, she had an odd sense of sickening relief. Much was wrong with the pack, but at least Cypress was safe now that he was back from his impromptu absence from the pack.

Now that her outburst was out of the way, the once-adventurous canine marched to where he sat and lowered herself next to him, stretching out her legs and leaning back on her palms. "So what's he like?" she asked, hoping to avoid any long conversation about why she was so worried about him. Artemis didn't even know, herself. She could hardly explain it to him.

yea I didn't figure she would heh.

After the AniWayans had attacked them Cypress had figured no one would be bothered to worry about him. Anu would have and probably still did even though there was no way for her to know her wayward son had been missing in the first place. So it was genuine surprise when Artemis said she had been worried about him and with such exasperation. At first his ears had perked in his surprise, but the expression quickly faded and turned to one of remorse. "I'm sorry, Missa. I didn't mean to make you worry. I didn't think anyone would notice my being gone for just a few days." He said sincerely, an apologetic look in his blue eyes.

The youth's dark tail tapped against the ground as Artemis set down next to him seeming far less upset than she had a moment ago and with her here he was finally able to get his mind of the confrontation with his brother. He was caught a little off guard as she asked about his father, but he couldn't really be surprised. He wasn't sure if many knew who is father was and it wasn't really anything he had given a whole lot of thought to in all honesty. He thought for a moment, not quite sure how to put the impression Gabriel had left on him to words. "He is stern." He said, knowing it was a little vague. But it was perhaps the most distinct definition he could think of. Gabriel certainly lacked the softness of his mother. "But he is fair. He is a lot like Anu in some ways, yet the complete opposite of her in others." Almost like opposite sides of the same coin. One of light and the other of darkness, yet somehow connected. His tone was level and casual, but a smile had crept across his maw. "I look like him, you know." He said, his tone gaining a slightly cocky flare to it and knowing full well that Missa probably didn't have a clue what his hybrid father looked like.

After she had scolded him properly for worrying her in the way he had, he seemed sincere in his apologies and that was more than enough for the Dreamer princess. It was not as if she had been able to entirely explain her concerns, anyway, and if he hadn't thought anyone would miss him... Well, she couldn't hold that against him, even if he should have known better, in her mind. How he would have known she would worry about him was not a concern of hers, but she did not dwell on it. "Just... Don't leave for a while again without telling me," she said, her voice faltering a bit.

Soft blue eyes, so like her own father's brilliantly blue gaze, studied the water's surface as he spoke, a small smile gracing her muzzle as she listened to him describe a man she would never meet. She was fond of Anu, and she wondered if she would like Cypress' father if she met him. The details he gave were vague, but she wouldn't press for more, she knew, as she turned to look at him at the last statement, the tone of his voice changing with it. She was happy he had met his father and seemingly found what he was looking for. "I'm glad you got to see him," she said, though she did not know what else to say. What could she say? He sounds... Nice? Fair? Strong? Handsome? No. Absolutely not.

"I wish I looked like one of my parents," she mused, looking at the ocean again. With the exception of her eyes, she did not look like either parent and she hadn't the faintest idea where the silver of her coat came from. Her mother was dark, her father light, and her aunt and uncle were both mottled browns, like her brother Silvano.

Cypress was genuinely sorry that he had made 'Missa worry. He certainly hadn't meant to. Yet, at the same time it almost made him happy to know that she had missed him at all. The conflicting emotions left the boy with some confusion, but it faded away and was forgotten as he promised Artemis that he wouldn't leave again without telling her. Had he thought to consider anyone but himself, he probably would have told her this time around too, but it was too late for that now

What more could Cypress really say about his father? He had only met the hybrid twice, though this second time had given him a better chance to get to know his sire, it still felt as if he had just scratched the surface. "Thanks, Missa." He was just glad she still wasn't upset with and not nearly as pissed as Alder had been about it all. "Alder's pretty mad about it." Just even thinking about his brother started to bring back the foul mood he'd been trying to lose as it sat at the lake's edge. He hated to think Alder was going to be staying here again.

Cypress gave Artemis a surprised look as she said she wished she looked like either of her parents. "Nah, your beautiful they way you are Missa" The words falling off his tongue before he even realized what he was saying. Though once he did realize he felt bashful and foolish for his loose tongue. "I mean, your pelt is a blend of them both if you think about it. What could be better than that?" He said quickly trying to cover his previous words.

Artemis was not close to any of her siblings. Once, she had been close to Denali, but she tried not to think about him now. Even though she had come to terms with his death, it was still painful to think about and so she avoided doing so. Briefly she wondered what the relationship was like between Cypress and his brothers, and Mati as well. She had known them all for as long as she could remember, of course, but she had never really considered whether or not their familial relationships were close. "Why would Alder be mad about that?" she asked, wrinkling her nose. She didn't understand; maybe the older brother had simply been worried, too.

The look of surprise was mirrored in her own features at the offhand compliment. He quickly added to it, the awkwardness of the previous moment dissipating at the correction. "Um... I guess you're right," she said, a little uncertain. It was not a way she had thought of it before, but she supposed he was right. With her silver coat, she was somewhere right in between her mother's ebony and her father's ivory. "What do you think of swimming?" she asked suddenly. She didn't normally swim, but maybe it was worth giving it a try, see what it was like. The warm weather wouldn't last forever and then autumn and winter would be coming.

idek where this long post came from :x

Mentioning Alder had been a mistake. Here he was, trying to loose the fowl mood his brother had brought down upon on him and just when the angry feelings were starting to fade into the realm of the forgotten he had brought them back to the forefront of his mind. Cypress gave a shake of his head at Artemis’ question. Cypress didn’t understand what the big deal was and why his brother had been so mad. Other than the obvious fact that mother was gone, but that was hardly his fault. ”Because Mother had wished us not to go to Inferni.” More powerful than his anger for his brother was the sorrow he felt at Anu’s absence. ”He says I abandoned her.. I think he blames me.” He shook his head, trying to clear it of the clouds that threatened to darken his mind. Alder had simply been upset by the entirety of the whole situation and Cypress was taking it personal. It seemed the two brother’s were always at odds.

Cypress cursed at himself internally for his slip of the tongue. Oh, it was true that Missa was a beauty and he had meant it. It was just that Cyp had never really thought of her like that, had he? Suddenly it all felt so confusing and he worried that if Missa called him out on it things between them just become quite awkward. After all, Missa was one of the few he could actually call friend and that was something he didn’t want to lose. Thankfully, it was the second comment that she seemed to focus on. An easy smile settling across Cypress’ face as he suddenly felt easier to breath again.

”Swimming?” He echoed in a confused tone. He spent so little time outside of his lupus form that swimming was something he had never thought of doing just for fun. His learning to swim had only been the result of him chasing frogs a little further into the lake than a pup should. ”I’ve never really given it much thought at all.” He said honestly. Still, it did sound kinda fun. He had always enjoyed romping about in the shallows with Oak when they had been pups. ”Just.. give me a few minutes, kay?” He said as he looked around for some cover, wanting to join Artemis in optime form. Even if he was a little self conscious over the two-legged body, he had a feeling it just wouldn’t be as fun if he stayed on all fours.

Ducking behind some cattails, it took a few moments for Cypress to get the process of the change to even start and then it was a few minutes before it was complete. His optime form wasn’t one he often used around the manor and while he had grown accustomed to seeing Artemis in hers since the fall he wasn’t sure if she had even seen this way before. Stepping out for the reeds, Cypress swept back the hair from his face, the jet black of his mane was long and straight. ”Sorry that took so long.” He said a little nervously.

The subject of Alder, their father, and their mother’s capture was obviously a sore one; Artemis wished she had been smart enough not to ask questions about it. She could tell that it was bothering him and she knew she should have let the subject drop. Better late than never, though, she thought to herself as she decided not to encourage the conversation. If Cypress really wanted to talk about it more, then he could continue with it, but she was going to let the subject drop now.

Summer was coming to an end, but swimming was something the silver-painted princess had come to enjoy greatly. She had taken it up in the beginning of the summer when she had been keeping to herself for her only company. Cypress seemed a bit startled by the suggestion, but he excused himself (for what, she didn’t realize until after) and he seemed willing to give it a try, anyway. Artemis stood, stretching her arms over her head with her hands clasped together, arching her back slightly while she waited for him to return, enjoying the stretch of muscles.

Cypress returned in a form that the Consul’s daughter had never seen her friend in. Her arms dropped back to rest by her sides and she looked at his two-legged body for perhaps a moment too long before she began to wade out into the lake. The air was still warm and the water was refreshingly cool. Artemis waded deeper into the lake until the water rested just below her waist. She turned to face the shore again, looking to the prince of trees with a pleased smile. “It’s nice.”
