((If it's okay, I'd like to backdate this post to Sept. 21. I can't remember how far you can backdate a post, or where the rules on backdating posts are, so...
Also I am bad at coming up with clever titles for threads. >.>))

Alma thought it was important to show herself to be useful to her new clan, which was why she had gone hunting. Two days later and she had come back with less than she thought she would find: two rabbits, which were now tied around waist with a leather cord. It was an embarrassingly small find, considering how long she had been tracking a deer - only to have the arrow miss and it bound away before she could reach for another.

As the coywolf traveled home, she considered skinning the creatures and using their fur to make something more useful. She had seen luperci wearing fur that was not their own before - it couldn't be that hard, right?

Several wolf skulls dangling from a tree told her she had reached Inferni's border. Navigating by sight and memory, the coywolf led herself out of the Forest of Nod and into the plain-like territory that seemed to stretch over most of Inferni. It was not long before she reached Grimwell Caverns.

The cave she had chosen to hide her spear in was not big enough for her to stand up properly in her Optime form, but it was dry. The latter was a necessary trait when storing something made of wood.

Alma set aside her bow and poked her head and hands inside, trying to reach for her spear. Nothing. She frowned, and tilted her body forward so half of her was inside. Still, she felt only smooth limestone rock.

That was when she noticed an unfamiliar scent in the cave. Someone had been there while she was gone. The coywolf quickly pulled herself out and picked up her bow. If her nose was correct, it was a young coyote, a packmate that she hadn't met but still recognized as being of Inferni. They couldn't have gotten far.

Symera was still having to get used to her optime form as she had just learned to shift not too long ago. But even so she had kept with her trips to the caverns. After all she had to deliver the dolls that she found to Tali's kids. Even so she still managed to get lost in the caverns, often mistaking one for another still. There was no exception this time either. She knew the general area at least but still peeked into the caves that she passed in order to figure out just where she was.

But this process changed for her as there was something different in one of the caves. There were things in there that usually weren't. Of course this had peaked her curiosity and had her slipping in to explore and learn more about the item that was contained within. She hadn't exactly seen something like this before. Without even considering whom it might belong to, or that she shouldn't be taking the items of another in the first place, the small girl grabbed the weapon from inside of its hiding spot and decided to take it out into the sunlight instead.

So with the spear in hand she left the caverns and headed outside instead. Once she got out in an open area, having headed closer to the beach, but still remaining near the caverns she sat down in order to look over what she had found. The spear was rested upon the young female's lap as she ran her hands over it. She had no idea what it was for, or even what it was. Still, it was something of interest and she considered taking it to show to Halo and get the impression of the woman that had been caring for her.

The scent led her from the caverns, to a beach. Salt and seaspray soon erased the smell of the thief, but that didn't matter. She could see someone on the beach.

She could remember passing by - or perhaps glancing at - the beach when she first arrived at Inferni and Enkiel led her to their leader. Rocks and stones seemed to block her way, making her trip. The coywolf picked herself up and sighed. She had clearly lost the stealth advantage. She brushed bits of grainy sand out of her fur, then checked to make sure her bow hadn't broken during the tumble.

More carefully now, she moved closer to the sitting figure. From what Alma could tell, she appeared to be smaller than her, with younger features. Was she a mischevious child playing a prank? "Have you seen my spear?" The coywolf knew that she had, for she could see something resting on her lap that looked suspiciously like her spear. Perhaps the kid had one that happened to look just like her spear, but - it was too coincidental.

On one paw, Alma didn't want to alienate her new pack by beating up a child over a spear (the idea of being attacked with her own spear hadn't even occurred to her) - on the other, she was prepared to chase her if she started to run. Her fur stood tense as she waited for a response.

The female was no good at stealth either. It wasn't a trait that she had yet to acquire. It was just another something that she would end up having to learn and acquire. She was still classified as a pup though and so she hadn't needed to prove herself just yet. Or at least she hadn't had to show that she had developed one particular skill set over another. That was lucky for her since she had no clue what she was even good at. And well, her only real concern was to end up making Halo happy and proud of her. Well that and the eradication of all stinkies.

The small female looked up as she was spoken to. "I do not know." The girl said with a shrug of her shoulders before she conceded to elaborating upon her words. "What is a spear?" She had no familiarity with weapons in the slightest. She had no clue that the other was looking fro the object that Symera was exploring upon her lap. After all she had taken it in order to be able to look at it better. She had brought it out in order to try and ponder over what it was and what it was used for.

"I found this." She stated as she held up the weapon that she had just been studying. "I found it in a cave." And after she figured out what it was she had every intention upon putting it back. "Talitha was not home for me to ask her about it yet." Not that she was sure that Talitha would know what it was but she would be the one that lived the closest that Symera figured that she could end up asking. And if not then she would have to head to the mansion and see if Halo was there.

"What is a spear?" At that, Alma rose an eyebrow. She crossed her arms, a slight frown appearing on her snout. Was this child lying to her? Trying to play a trick on her? She was honest about having found it in a cave, at least. The coywolf was quiet as she listened to the child, trying to discern any hints of a lie.

She knew not who Talitha was, but assumed it to be the child's mother. Perhaps she was just curious, if she was going to ask about it? Then again, she said she was going to ask about it - not that she was going to ask and then put it back. Still, her mother probably would have told her to put it back, anyway. Her features relaxed slightly.

When the girl held the spear up, she saw that it was indeed hers. Alma could remember a few notches and depressions in the wooden handle, and the way the spearhead was tied to the top.

"That is a spear. You use the spearhead," she pointed to the sharpened stone at the top, "at the top to stab things. Prey, other canines. Some use it to catch fish." She might as well inform her on its uses, since the child seemed curious. "You can throw it at something, but that takes more skill. Simply standing and looking intimidating is often enough to keep others at bay. If not, then you stab them with it." Having said this, Alma eyed the child and the spear wearily, ready to step back should she try an experimental 'poke'. She remembered her own childhood well enough, and that was exactly the sort of thing she would have done.

Admittedly, Alma had been an exceptionally rude and quarrelsome child, and had only learned the use of following others when she had grown older. Such thoughts did not enter her mind, however; she just assumed all children would be exactly like she was.

There was no reason at all for Symera to lie. At least the small girl saw no reason to lie. Rather she was honest and told on herself easily enough. She hadn't learned yet that others lied in order to protect themselves. That concept was a foreign to her. But then again Symera wasn't like most children. She didn't have the chance to live a fairytale. She was forced to face the grim reality of life at an early age. She knew that there was no such thing as a happily ever after.

When the weapon, as well as its uses, were explained to her she glanced over it once again. She had never heard of such a thing before. The only thing that she had seen put into practice to injure another canine had been her caretaker's weapon, a katana. She hadn't been exposed to other weapons. There was still so much in the world that she did not know. But she was eager to learn at least.

The weapon was turned about in her hands, even testing the point with a finger, but she didn't attempt to stab anything. Instead she actually grabbed it near the head of it so that she could extend the handle to the other female for her to take it back. "Here you go. I had not realized that this belonged to anyone." A simple explanation was offered as she made to return the weapon to its owner. There was no reason for the small girl to hold onto it any longer since her questions had been answered. She had taken it so that she could find out more about it and well, that had transpired. Since the owner had come for it then she could hand it over rather than trying to figure out how to get it back to where she had originally found it at.

End soon?

Alma was surprised the handle, not the point, was turned toward her. "Thank you." Inferni's pups had better manners than herself when she was a child. She wasn't entirely sure how she felt about that. Ashamed, maybe, but she could not change the actions of her past.

Alma looked the spear over carefully for any signs of damage. There didn't appear to be any. That done, she glanced at the horizon. Maybe it was time to leave. The girl had said very little, and Alma herself couldn't think of anything else to say. She knelt down and picked up her bow.

It occurred to her then, that just as the girl hadn't known what a spear was, she might not know what a bow is. "This here is a bow, if you are curious. With arrows, you can use it to shoot things from afar. Ar-" she yawned, "Arrows are thin pieces of wood lined with a pointy tip like the spear, and the end is tipped with feathers. I'm afraid I don't have any to show you now, as I used them all while hunting." She set aside the spear and took some time to string the bow. Then, she stood up and demonstrated how she held a bow, though it was somewhat marred by the lack of an arrow. "This is how you hold it, when taking aim."

After a moment, she lowered a bow and shifted into a neutral stance. Her vision was getting blurry, and she was tired from hunting for two days straight. She wanted to sleep - and she knew that it would be time to start on finding some wood to make bows soon, for the trade with Ezekiel. It was best to start early and not put it off. She unstrung her bow, then picked up her spear. It was time to go, but she would wait just a moment to see if the girl had any questions before she left.

Symera couldn't speak for the other pups but she wasn't like normal pups. She didn't romp about and play in a hyperactive manner. She had already learned just how hard and chaotic life was. She hadn't been sheltered and protected from the harshness of survival. So to compare her to others really wasn't that fair. She hadn't been born in Inferni and so she hadn't the clan to keep her safe at the start of her life. She was already a few months old by the time that she had finally come to live here.

"You are welcome." The return was made politely. After all it was only proper manners to do so. Not that Symmy always seemed to be the epitome of manners. But that mainly dealt with the stinkies though. There was a hatred in her that ran deep against canines of another species. But she was justified in her feelings since they had been the ones to show her that life wasn't sweet. So yes, she can be pleasant enough to those inside the clan but it didn't exactly extend to those beyond the borders.

The demonstration of yet another weapon was watched with interest. Perhaps she should end up talking to Halo at some point and see where she might end up getting something of her own. It was an interesting thought to say the least. But during the demonstration the other female ended up yawning. "If you are tired then you should go to bed." The words were spoken simply. Why force yourself to continue on if you were unable to focus? It made no sense to her. "Go to bed." She once again chided gently before she started on her way back to the mansion, wishing to speak to Halo about a weapon before it should slip her mind.
