WC:388+ YO!

She really should have been working on traps or other useful utensils. But Caprica was never much one for 'should'. She did a good line in doing just as she pleased - a trait that had never really caused any trouble, or even been noticed, much, even as a child - since the months where she was just old enough to really start causing difficulties for her guardians, were the same months she had found herself alone, or at least serially alone, and without any reliable form of guardian. It hadn't been strictly necessary, of course, but her rebellious instincts had not been curbed and she was not even aware of them herself. Thankfully, she had a streak of kindliness and respect that refused to let her get any more rambunctious than today's avoidance of useful activity. She was making jewellery again. Hey - perhaps she could trade it sometime, for the benefit of the pack. She could put her desires to use. Right?

The torchlight flickered on the walls of the large common cavern, and on Caprica, perched on a large log with legs crossed and her work on a cloth on her lap. She was taking her time, picking beads from a collection. They were colourful, and painted with pine resin varnish so that they shone. She'd designed the colours and patterns - some were large with stripes or spots or various designs, some tiny and simply painted. Here and there she added a tooth onto the leather thongs, or a small shell. Looking at those, she smiled to think how successful her last gift had been involving the cowries. It had earned her her newest and most secret possession, and brought her to the most fortunate of mornings. Funny how things worked out. Her expression was soft and intensely concentrated on her work, but every now and then she broke off to gaze dreamily into shadowy space, dark lips parting as if to say something aloud, a word that would be laced with a smile if it had ever made it into existence. Once, she lost herself in dreaming so totally that she found herself commenting "Oh, the colours in the tree leaves are so amazing right now!" although of course there was no one in the cave to hear, nor any leaves visible anywhere.

Ooc.

The caves were still something new to her despite living in them for so long. She didn’t exactly like being underground all day and usually found herself outside walking or getting into trouble- which was usually not the case. She aimlessly wandered about the halls of her home knowing she would probably be lost in a moment’s time. Hell, she was probably lost right now. Rio tried to wrap her mind around how to get back to her den from where she was right now. The thought was difficult because she didn’t even know where she was at the moment. There was a big room coming up ahead that could’ve been a storage den that she wandered into or it could be an actual room. She wouldn’t know until she got there.

Rio looked around at the walls. Useless torches hung on the walls; What do we need those for? We can see perfect in the dark… Naniko had overdone herself with this one. Finally, the big room that she had been walking into spilled open. She stopped at the entrance to take it all in. She had never been here before, obvious. There was someone sitting on one of the logs, obvious. Who it was, though, was not obvious. Not obvious until she took a breath inwards. Whoever they were was her blood, her relative. The female had a black coat, just like hers, and a bigger frame then most. ”Caprica?” Rio hoped her assumption wouldn’t be wrong because it had just slipped its way out of her mouth without her even realizing. It had to be right; there was no other family member that looked this way, other than her big, beautiful sister. The corners of her mouth lifted upwards in an awkward, but ecstatic smile. Finally, they would be able to reunite! And not in the middle of a pack event or meeting – it was somewhere normal and not interrupting anything important. There were no crying puppies and other pack members freaking out (yes, she was thinking about the pack meeting the other day). This was a good environment for a reunion.

have a short holiday post :[ <3

Caprica was delighted to be shaken from her reverie, hearing her name called in a familiar voice, which was only partly familiar because she'd heard it first some time around the day she'd learned to speak herself. Her sister was older and her puppy tones were gone, but Caprica had seen her a couple of times since she had come back and was getting used to the fact they were all grown up now. She was trapped because her work was spread on her lap and rising to greet Rio would have scattered the beads, but she turned her head, flashing a purely delighted smile which danced all through her green eyes. "Hey girl!" she lilted. "Where you been hiding? You got a minute? Come over here and sit down - it's been so long since we caught up properly."

At least its a post !

Success. She was definitely in. This was Caprica, and there was nothing more that she had to worry about. It was her sister and she didn’t have to act any certain way around her, but to be herself. Rio beamed a smile back as the other coal-colored female accepted her. She made no haste in going to sit down by Caprica. She carefully sat on the log stump next to her sister, and looked at what she was doing. ”Hi!” It was an excited ‘hi’. She hesitated with giving her sister a hug, not wanting to spill her masterpiece and supplies all over the cave. So, she just sat there with her arms crossed in her lap, and looked towards her sibling.

”Hiding? I wasn’t hiding, silly.” She almost felt like a pup again, and she had to hold back some of her excitement. The smile never faded from her maw. She almost couldn’t contain herself, but she could just enough. ”Where did you come back from?” Back into all-serious/still-happy mode, Rio knew her own story, but she didn’t know where her sister had come back from, or even where she went in the first place when they both had just left their homeland. She wondered if Caprica had run into the same troubles as she did, or did she have a smooth life and just decided to come back? Rio decided too, but there wasn’t much out there for her outside of Souls’ lands. Atleast she had family here, whereas outside of Souls’ there was nobody. Nobody that needed her, and nobody that she needed. There was nobody to benefit from, and nobody to thrive off of. There was complete nothing for her out there, of course if she wanted travel farther and farther away- there might’ve been something…

WC:3+

The midnight sisters had always been the most similar in appearance, and in some ways they also matched in character. Neither of them were especially demonstrative of their affections towards each other, but the bond was still there - the casual manner was, on Caprica's part, a sign of how easy she felt she could relax around her smaller sibling. They had been apart for most of their lives so far, so they could not have the tight-knit bond of some blood-relatives, but Caprica sensed there was a confidence between them that would never be easily destroyed. "Felt like we just kept missing each other in these twisty caves!" she laughed. "You ain't leaving this room til we finish catching up - and I'ma make you a necklace too, got so many beads to use up, here-" She pushed a handful at Rio, of all sizes and colours and patterns "Choose a few."

But she couldn't delay for long the fact she was going to have to relive her past and all its inexplicable holes. She wanted to keep things easy - she didn't want to hand her worries onto her littermate, who could easily have some of her own, but nor did she want to keep secrets, so supposed she should really mention her amnesiac tendencies. "Nowhere special, just a loner life in the woods. Actually, I've forgotten a lot of that. Must've been awful boring, and not worth remembering," she joked, hoping that would explain everything without allowing cause for concern. Maybe Rio could help her fill in some of the blanks. She didn't even remember when Rio had left their birthpack. "You better regale me with your travelling tales - bound to be far better than my poor excuse for a story."

Have Caprica make her a bracelet =]

Caprica motioned for Rio to pick beads, and the black femme bent over the cloth picking around at the different colors. She liked the deep red beads and found herself leaving a few of those off to the side. She straightened again to return her gaze to its original spot: her sister’s face. She picked the few beads she liked, which were all red, and if Caprica needed more than she could already point out the pattern. Rio wanted all red. Blood red, like all the troubles in her past.

Caprica hadn’t really spilled much, but maybe there wasn’t much for her to spill. Rio became quiet while thinking of what to tell her littermate. She didn’t want to jump right into sad things, but she wasn’t going to lie and tell her that life was peachy. Rio’s life had been far from peachy up until she had joined Anathema. It started getting better from there. ”Well, to keep it as simple as possible: I left and ran into some trouble. Some coyotes ‘adopted’ me as their own, but I felt like I was more of a hostage than anything. I managed to escape from them and had been living on my own outside of Souls’, and this is where we have something in common…” Life by herself wasn’t anything to sing about, and she felt Caprica there. Living as a loner in a land where there wasn’t much life and excitement was forgettable. She didn’t remember much from that point of her life either. She wouldn’t dig through Caprica’s holy story, then. ”It was BORINGG.” Rio laughed a little, but continued her story, ”I started feeling really alone, and decided to find my way back to Souls’ lands. I managed to make it, only barely not getting eaten in Salsola.” She lied. The Salsolans didn’t want to eat her, but the one who greeted her at the border wasn’t trying to help a lost soul out either.

WC:365+ No muddy puddle for me >Big Grin

Her littler sister collected together the crimson-stained beads and Caprica observed appreciatively. She did love the deep colour she was able to get by mixing and sieving the red clay under the earth on the forest outskirts, and the beads were dipped in pine lacquer so the strong hue would never wash off. As Rio picked them out, the craftswoman took each one and threaded it onto the malleable thong, small to suit Rio's wrists. She chose larger ones interspersed with smaller, creating a rippling wave effect, and mixed in a few jet-black drilled stones, tiny pieces of black jade, to set off the strong red colours even more strikingly. This kept her hands occupied while her sister spoke - the words held her full attention of her mind, however. Apart from the coyotes, her story matched Caprica's somewhat. And who knew, maybe Caprica had found some coyotes of her own, although probably not. She would have at least remembered a moment of their company, surely, if she had. The other part that differed was the name of Salsola. Caprica had been meaning for a while now to start to figure out the politics of the claimed lands, as another way to escape her loner mentality. Salsola was a name she knew, but no solid facts came to mind. "Whoa, they tried to eat you? Did'ja meet a renegade psycho or is the whole pack screwed up? Some of those guys used to live here, y'know," she informed her sister, her eyes full of concern for Rio's hardships. She couldn't help feeling closer to her sister, although these days they were almost strangers, for the simple fact they'd both been through the mill since their mother had left them. Now they'd found her again, and Caprica didn't place any blame on that white head. Naniko was a tough mom, but she was also one who tried her best and she instilled her own strength in her progeny, which was in Caprica's mind a heroic and unselfish way to raise children and she supposed she wouldn't have her mother any other way.

SORRY for the waitttt... I totally forgot I hadnt posted the reply >_<

This is where Rio’s exaggerations fell through. ”Not exactly eat, but they weren’t the friendliest, either.” She was starting to feel reluctant that she even brought that part of the story up because now her own story was ‘holey’. She managed to leave out the part where she was trespassing on their lands. Rio shook her head pushing her version of the story away, and putting her attention on Caprica’s question.

”Yeah, they have others just as messed up as our pack’s ‘characters’, I guess.” She meant ‘characters’ as in those who acted odder than the norm. The Salsolans she ran into weren’t exactly the most understanding, though what did she expect? She lived in a harsher environment than most. The Aniwayans might have given her directions, but Anathema and Salsola? No. She didn’t think it would happen, now that she looked back on it. Inferni might have really ate her, and burned the bones so that there would never be evidence to find. She always viewed Inferni as a lesser pack, what, with there skull fence and all.

”Well, with that said- What was your return to Souls’ like?” Out of all things, Caprica must remember that at least. It wasn’t even that long ago since both of them had returned to their home land. Rio was relieved to be back, even though she did feel like her life of solitude was a home away from home. It did bore her now that she thought back on it, but all in all- it wasn’t bad at all.

WC:306+ hookay, sorry about the delay, you get two posts in a row though :]

Course Caprica realised she hadn't been eaten, but she'd also picked up on the fact Rio had exaggerated in order to demonstrate how affected she'd been by whatever they'd said and done to her. Still, she was all in one piece and whatever didn't kill you made you stronger, right? Poor girl seemed to be a trouble-magnet, because the next moment she was darkly alluding to trouble within the very corridors of Anathema. Hopefully she didn't mean anything stronger than an odd conversation or something - there were indeed a few oddballs lurking in the shadows down here - but all harmless, as far as Caprica could tell. She laid down her beads for a moment, peering closely into Rio's face with a frown. "You haven't had a hard time down here, surely?" she queried. "You better tell me if anyone down here is being a problem." A hard edge laced her words. No one messed with her family.

Rio asked her about her return to the lands, and Caprica let herself relax. It couldn't be too bad, like she'd already told herself. Rio seemed fine - all in one piece and making easy conversation. Hopefully she wasn't living with a dark cloud over her head, though. Mental scars were hard to see, sometimes. "Uneventful really. I was travelling through the forest and nothin' happened til I got met by Ravesque on the borders and then Mom came. Ohh, was that a happy moment," still brought colour to her cheeks to remember the reunion, although colour of a different and more guilty kind came as she remembered who had been there as well. She had to distract herself fast, and picked up the beads again: the bracelet was almost done.

If I fall and all is lost
OOC :: You have permission to drown me. (Your avatar’s sooo classy!)

Caprica had all Rio’s attention now, and the black canine zeroed in on her sister’s words. She really couldn’t get over their reunion. Every time they met, she went over in her mind of how happy and thankful she was to have Caprica back, even though she didn’t exactly need her in the same way that she did back when she was younger. ”Oh, Cap I think I could take care of myself, but it’s nice to know that you have my back.” She was looking at her paws in her lap, and looked up at her sister with gratefulness in her eyes and a big, warm smile.

Rio was perfectly capable of taking care of herself, even though she did wish she could leave her own protection in someone else’s hands. She felt that they would probably do a better job. She would much prefer crawling, and disappearing, into a dark hole and not coming out until the world around her was entirely safe. These thoughts brought her back to the fight between her and that other femme that she’d seen at the Anathema meeting. The idea of the fight made adrenaline flow through her veins, but for nothing. There was no black bitch female around to kick ass, so therefore the adrenaline rush was a waste.

Back to reality, ”Oh. Mom met me firsthand, pregnant and out of breath…” Her eyes became empty as she became lost in the memory. A slight smile was on her face as she recalled the events, ”I saw her and instantly began whimpering like a child. Embarrassing, but at least it was only Momma.” Her eyes came back to life and she looked at Caprica, ”It was nice to know I would finally be safe.” She always had second thoughts, since the rape, about her own safety. No matter where she was, no matter how safe or not it really was, she always felt that something or someone would always find a way to get to her. But coming onto Anathema lands, the feeling kind of died away.

At 'whimpering like a child', Caprica giggled a little, shaking her head. She'd been pretty much just as bad herself - the big self-contained Caprica. It was easy to feel safe around Naniko, and not just because she was their mom. She had led this pack for so long for a reason. Her daughter aspired to that level of charisma and the powerful aura that suffused her, left the whole land feeling strong and protected. Partly that was the geography of course, the arrangement with the caves and mountains where they fed off the strength, and partly the intelligent designing that saw them self-sufficient from the outside world and socially knit together as more of a family than a simple rag-tag group of strangers coexisting for mutual protection that other packs liked to follow, or so it seemed to Caprica. It wasn't perfect, but it was highly to her taste. "I'm sure you can take care of yourself pack or no pack," she said in an attempt to be encouraging. "What you gonna do now you're here? Do ya have a task in mind you'd like to perform, or are ya plannin' to move on again?"

If I fall and all is lost
OOC :: I’m sooorrrryyy I’ve been MIA >_<

Rio was amused that Caprica found her story interesting; interesting enough to laugh about. She had the uncontrollable urge to impress her sister, not exactly knowing why it would change anything. Maybe if Caprica was impressed, she would feel the need to see Rio as someone other than her ‘little sister’. Even though, Rio endeared that title anyway.

”I really don’t know what I was hoping to find when I came back. Family, for sure, but as in anything else- I haven’t ever given it much thought…” Caprica’s questions were hard. They prodded at things that Rio hadn’t even given the slightest amount of thought to. They were important, too. ”Well, on my travels, I did acquire a slight interest in medicine…. And drugs.” She wasn’t a big drug user though, but she liked knowing what a substance made another feel like. ”Mostly medicine and herbs and stuff like that, though.” She didn’t want Caprica thinking she was a big Shroom eater, even though it didn’t really matter.

Moving on was something she hadn’t really given much thought. She liked the safety that Anathema gave her, and the comfort it made her feel, but moving on would be an interesting part of her life. She had been a loner for too long, but didn’t find it tiring. Maybe one day she would decide that Anathema wasn’t her ‘forever place,’ and switch locations. Who knew what other kinds of creatures she would meet? ”One day I’ll decide where my ‘forever home’ will be.” It wasn’t a thought she needed to have figured out right now, and so it was pushed to the back of her mind to be saved for a rainy day.

”What about you? What kind of ‘something’ will you get yourself into in the future?” Rio wanted to know more about her family members, as she really didn’t know them grown up. ”Do you see yourself staying in Mom’s lands for a while?” Nothing was forever, she already knew that. A ‘forever home’ wouldn’t exactly be forever, but it would be a place to stay for a long time.

Words:

Her eyes flickered with interest at the mention of drugs. She had little experience in the field, although she'd smoked a little and drank plenty. No one had insinuated that there were more of these kinds of substances out there. Even the thought of medicine was interesting. All she had so far needed to cure were hangovers, and her only remedy discovered so far was to drink more. Not that she made a habit of overdoing the fizzy stuff. "That sounds awesome," she said lamely but earnestly. Rio didn't sound ready to settle down or make any concrete decisions, so it was good she was looking into a variety of fields. Choice was a beautiful thing. Her own question turned back on her, Caprica's hands stilled from their beadwork for a moment as she stared unseeingly at the wall in thought. "This place is perfect to me, so unless I get a personality transplant I can't see me leavin'," she mused. "What I'm gonna do here though, I don't exactly know yet. I like makin' the jewellery and stuff but it ain't exactly useful. I had some new trap ideas which means I don't have to hunt much, which is cool... and I might end up inventing some awesome new technology for the pack to use, but I doubt it. Still, I'm happy to be a crafter for now, cause you never know, right?" She slotted the last bead into place and held up Rio's necklace. "You like? Wanna try it on?"

Rio Marino
If I fall and all is lost
OOC :: Caprica was making her a bracelet, not a necklace (in case you didn’t get my PM) >_<

Rio beamed at her sister’s interest. ”We should experiment one day…” She was talking about the drugs, since Caprica seemed to take a particular interest when she mentioned them, but she wasn’t specific. She looked up at her sister and then turned to look at something else in the room. The wall right across from her sufficed.

After a short pause she said, ”Don’t doubt yourself, Sis. I have confidence in you that you’ll find something to make yourself useful. You always have.” She turned her head slightly, but not enough to be looking at her sister. It was just enough so that her voice would be projected in the right direction and not lost to the walls of the cave in a direction that no one was sitting. Caprica was crafty, and way more creative than Rio. She had little doubt that her sister would come up with something useful to Anathema, and everyone would love whatever it was because she was pretty good with things like that.

Caprica stopped crafting and held up her bracelet. All blood red beads just like she wanted. They were beautiful and they would go lovely with her black fur, and may even give off a little accent to all the boringness. A smile grew on Rio’s lips from ear to ear- a nice toothy grin to show her appreciation for the cute little gift. ”Oh, I love it! Thank you, beautiful!” She grabbed Caprica from the side, with her left arm, and squeezed her tightly and quickly, giving her a small side hug. She was still careful not to spill Caprica’s supplies from her lap all over the cave. When the hug was finished and she let go, she held out her wrist for Caprica to clip the bracelet on her. She still wore a huge smile.

It's chemical the way we love. The way we hate it's quite inhuman

Caprica nodded eagerly at her sister's suggestion. "Sure hon, any time you can get hold of anything, please, do share it out… I'll do the same back! she suggested, as a plan of action. She had no idea where she could go for such substances though. Some research was in order. There had to be some crazy wolf down in these caves who knew about the herbs and mushrooms of mind-altering magic.

She fastened the bracelet to her sister's slender wrist, marvelling as ever at the contrast to her own thick limbs. Rio wore bracelets better than she, but she had to admit she had more chest to display necklaces on. Everyone had their strengths, Caprica supposed. "Looks good, sis," she breathed. How she loved decorating people. It was better than painting or any other creative thing by a long shot. But the simple joy could not eradicate a niggle from her mind that refused to go away. "Hey Ri," she spoke up suddenly, eyeing her sister for signs of annoyance at the baby-name. "What exactly happened in Salsola? Are they really dangerous?" She'd been planning to visit some time, and now she was not so sure.

If I fall and all is lost
OOC :: Caprica reminds me of Adele Smile

”Okay,” the smile that she wore for the bracelet lingered, still stretched across her lips. Imagine doing drugs with her sister? She had yet to try Shrooms, but she had experimented with weed before. Trying Shrooms with Caprica might be cute, in a way. At least Caprica was someone she felt totally comfortable with, and if anything bad were to happen while she was on her ‘trip’, at least she would have her sister there with her, and not some creepy stranger. The stranger would probably appear even more creepier while on the mind altering substance. ”I’ll definitely share anything I find with you. We could have an adventure together.”

After Caprica clipped the bracelet onto Rio’s wrist; she took her arm back and admired it. It was beautiful and the different shades of reds went well with her dark fur. It gave her a nice hint of some color. She would need to decorate herself in red things, and maybe some clothes to go with her building style. She rotated the piece of jewelry carefully, and loved it more every time she spun it around. Finally, she stopped and looked up at Caprica, ”Thank you again!” Pure gratitude shown in her tired eyes.

At the next instant, the baby-name didn’t bother her any, but the question brought her back to times she didn’t really want to be reminded of. She wanted to put all her stupidity behind her, and hope she would improve. She would be cooperative though, only with her sister: ”Nothing really. I trespassed, and they chased me off rather rudely because it was clear I was lost. I guess it just depends on how you go about things over there.” She was so used to not needing to ask permission to step on lands, but as soon as she came back to familiar lands, she was quickly and rudely reminded.

I'm sorry I'm so slow! Can we finish this soon as it is about four months old now D: Hence why I keep missing it… too high up my post log list :/ Sorryy again…

Caprica lifted her paw for a high-five, grinning her appreciation of the pact they'd made. "Okay, that's a deal." She flapped the same hand, dismissing the thanks. It was nice to see her stuff being worn, and the only thing that took time was whittling the beads. Caprica tended to do a lot at once, so it didn't feel like too much of a chore. She could just switch her brain off and get into a rhythm.

The Salsola story seemed less dramatic than at first appearances, but Caprica was still sorry Rio'd had a bad experience, although if she had been trespassing, it was at least partly her fault. She was intrigued by the idea of this pack now. Surely they were still at least some of them, blood-relatives to Anathema, as per the culture. Unless their new allegiance had renounced the blood-bonding somehow, but Caprica wasn't sure that was possible, at least spiritually. She would have to go and check out this far-flung society some day, she thought.

"Huh, well, I guess if any of 'em ever trespass we'd do the same, right?" she commented. "Alls well that ends well, though. I'm just glad you're here with us now. You will always belong here, I just know it." Her green eyes were sincere and earnest. She didn't really want Rio to go looking for her forever-home elsewhere - they'd only just found each other.

If I fall and all is lost
OOC :: I’ll wrap it up with this post, and we’ll have to do a druggie thread soon AND also finish up the other one we have Smile PP on the hug, I hope its alright ?

Rio quickly returned the high five, unsure of how she really knew that gesture in the first place. She looked around and collected herself for a few seconds. The drowsiness that only touched her eyes before, now weighed them down a lot more. She needed some sleep. Sleep wasn’t something she always found herself doing, so maybe tonight was a good night to catch up on some. She stood in place, and looked down at her still sitting sibling. ”Absolutely right.”

Rio was going to leave to her den, and without further notice, she stole a hug from Caprica. ”Thank you for the kind words and the beautiful jewelry. I’ll have to have you deck me out with more soon,” she smiled and gathered herself. ”Sorry for the abrupt leave, sis, but I am pooped.” she yawned uncontrollably. ”I love you, and I will see you soon?” She left her last statement hanging in the air, open for suggestions. She would see Caprica soon after all; they had future plans.

Rio sleepily left the common room after giving one last glance at Caprica, then disappeared down the torch-lit hallways toward her den. She wasn’t really thinking, and was pretty sure that this was the way she had come. Sleepiness had taken over her so fast that she felt like the walking dead.

Finally, after what seemed like a good ten minutes of feet-dragging, she reached her humble abode. She stumbled in, and barely took note of anything except that her bed was right in front of her. A nice heap of furs and cute little pillows she managed to find somewhere, but she was too tired to remember where right now. She wasted no time climbing into her nest, and closing her eyes. The various sounds of the caves' other residents slowly faded away, and she drifted off into a well needed sleep.
