Octavius. Let's do this!

If there was one thing he could be grateful about being born in Anathema, it was the darkness of the caves. Judas had found a great dislike for the sunshine from the very moment he stepped into it — not because of his stubborn nature nor a natural affinity to darkness, but because he found his eyes burnt and watered as if the fire of the sun itself possessed his very gaze. Or, at least he assumed it was fire that burnt within the sun — that seemed the most logical, after all, and Judas would sooner accept his own conclusions as the truth than go about questioning his pissy mother or idiotic packmates on it.

But Judas could not lay in the den all day. Nearly each time his mother had stirred he and his brothers awake for some menial field trip or something similar, the dark-furred runt had chosen to remain where he was. He hated the sunlight in his eyes. He hated that sting, and as much as he hated the birdcage, he would sooner allow himself thrown and latched into the cage by Naniko than dragged into the daylight where his bloodied eyes would drain and drain incessantly and his mood would only augment until it became something worse.

Naniko had left sometime earlier in the day, but not until she had thrown Judas into the cage once more. Severus had left with her. Octavius had opted out, and yet he had not been given the cage treatment as well. Interesting.

Octyyyy, he plead into the darkness, a pitiful whimper in his innocent, tiny voice. Octavius, wake up! Will ya let me out? I learned my lesson. A pause. Come on, Octy, let's go on an adventure. Pleeeease?

this'll be interesting / +3!

Mommy had left with Severus only this time, leaving him and Judas in the den together. Sadly she had tossed the darker brother into the bird cage again and ignored Octavius as she took the grey brother away. The white one hadn’t wanted to go because napping was a lot more appealing at the moment than going out and socializing with people he didn’t really care about. He’d just curled up on the skins, in the darkest corner he could find, and started drifting off again. The soft voice coming from across the room was annoying and he ignored it for a while, not wanting to get up and move around. After a while he growled and sat up to look around, wondering who the hell was calling out for him. That was when he remembered that Judas had been left with him. Rolling off of the bed, he scampered over to the bird cage and hopped up, balancing his front paws on the bars, looking in.

Aww, Juuudda! I dun know how ta open it! He whimpered softly and fell to the ground again, pawing at the bars in frustration, not knowing what to do to help his brother get out. He didn’t have hands like mommy did, so the latch would be hard to get undone. Sighing, he sat down and leaned against the bars, face unhappy and nose sticking through, snuffling against Judas’s neck, taking in his scent. Octa felt bad about not getting to spend enough time with his darker brother. Going outside to play all the time instead of staying with Judas was horrible and made him feel so guilty sometimes…an idea popped into his head.

Jumping up again, he opened his mouth and bit onto the latch, chewing on it and twisting his head from side to side, trying to get it to come loose. It took a long ten minutes of stopping to rest and flex his sore jaw, but he eventually busted it. Hooking one little paw around a bar, he tugged the door open and stood back, waiting for Judas to come out. Bouncing around happily, he yipped and wiggled. I got somefins to show you, Judda! It’s dark there, so no huwt your eyes no more, kay? He darted forward and licked at Judas’ nose and muzzle, barely able to contain his excitement. C’mon…we can be sneakies… He scampered over to the door and crouched, pushing out and into the dark cave hall quietly and whining softly for Judas to follow close behind.

Truth be told, Judas had never intended on any "adventures" at all, especially with his braindead older brother who took such a long time to figure out how to unlatch the cage door that the dark-furred whelp found Octavius's lack of intellect almost impressive. Fortunately, no repercussions for his actions in aiding Judas seemed to pass through Octavius's mind; would their mother be upset? Would she punish them? Oh, probably, but never the white brother that resembled her so. Only the dark, motley runt that reminded her of her little affair with a stranger. Judas shrugged at his own thoughts. No punishment she could offer would be anything new at this point, and he'd much grown weary of the long hours spent waiting in the cage.

Eventually Octavius managed to free the latch, and with the door open Judas stepped out leisurely and stretched. Instantaneously his brother began bouncing around like a child — oh, wait, they were still children, he supposed — going on about their little adventure. At least Octavius had inherited more sympathy than their mother; he'd kept in mind Judas's burning blood-eyes, though this was not enough to sway the runt into following. Now that he'd been freed, Judas supposed he had an entire day to look forward to wandering around, as opposed to a few sparse hours when he was lucky.

The white boy licked at his nose in all the excitement, and Judas could only grumble and raise a paw to wipe it away. Okay, okay, he said finally, begrudgingly, and walked with a leisurely stride to join his brother at the den's entrance. He did not mimic any of his brother's sneakiness, instead moving with an undaunted aloofness and indifference. Where are we going?

this is so late / +--!

Octavius was wiggling around happily, whimpering and scampering down the dark hallway. It was easy to tell where they were going, as living in the darkness had gotten the pups used to blackness relatively quick. Despite Judas’ bad attitude all the time, the white boy was so excited to be hanging out with the brother that he rarely got time with. Naturally taking the darker child to his place of solace in the caves was a good thing in his mind. Octavius never thought of the consequences that might come from taking him there. The possibilities of Judas hurting the pets in the dark place never crossed his mind, never made him pause and think for a few seconds longer about going there in the first place.

We goin’ to the wittle cave, broffer. He looked back at the dark boy and then started moving faster, scampering through the halls until they reached the tiny cave that he used all the time. Ducking under the low hanging hole in the rock wall, he pushed his slightly plump body in and kept walking. Mommy don’t know dis is here…I don’ think. He dropped his head down and sniffed around for a few moments before stopping and crouching down, dipping one little white paw into the small pool of warm water. There was a soft croak and a few small splashes a few feet away. Octavius yipped and hopped away from the water.

Dey be froggies, Juda! I sneaked dem in here when Mommy not lookin’!
