how 'bout them cowgirls

Word Count → 610 :: hi der...um yeah, she is a bit scatter brained. xD anyone welcome, only up to 2 though, plz.

Dixie was not having a good day at all. She’d ruined one of the new baskets that was being weaved from some purple sweet grass she had found near the water. So pretty…but it was messed up now. Wayne had attempted to comfort her, but there was nothing he could do to console the sad female. Throwing the basket down, she had turned and run from their room, tearing up through the Court House and out the front doors. After busting through, she let her body fall down onto all fours and continued running in Secui form. She was a little fluff ball, tiny even in her halfling form, though strong and able to fight reasonably well.

Running through the fort, wanting to stay within the walls but still get away from everyone, she took towards the gardens near the back wall. The trees and other foliage there was overgrown in a way that made it hard for even her small self to get through. Vines and sticks tore at her soft and fluffy fur as she pushed through, ripping some bushes from the ground in her wake. It took a little while, but finally she reached the river running through the middle of the miniature overgrown forest. The water was cold and clear, her light green eyes flicked around, able to see right through the slow moving liquid down to the pebbles and rocks at the bottom.

After a while of just watching, she began to notice the fish darting around in under the surface. Their body’s were silver, almost blending with the water depending on what direction they swam. Grinning to herself, she crept right up to the edge of the water and crouched, her nose almost dipping under the surface. Now she had to wait…but only for a few moments.

Splash! Her head dunked below the surface and jaws snapped closed quickly, teeth ripping into the flesh of a fat fish. Pulling up and out, she shook her head around violently to get the excess water off, as well as kill the fish. Moving backwards still, she sat down and dropped the fish onto some leaves, satisfied with her no hands fishing skills. There were tons of the little buggers in the water, she had seen them darting around after finding what to look for. Most of them were on the small side, only about the length of her hand, but there were a few big boys like the one she’d managed to grab.

Fishing more would definitely be something she would do a lot in the next few weeks before the river froze over. Everyone in the pack needed to get as much nutrition in them as possible before the cold moved in. Now there was also a reason to continue making the dilapidated basket she had stormed out over in the first place. If she made it bigger with a long handle, it could be used as a scoop or net to simply stick in the water and catch a good handful of fish at one time…that and a basket to carry their catch back to the court house with.

Grabbing her fish in her mouth, the girl turned and darted through the brambles and bushes, following the path she had created coming. Her goal was to find either Anann or Jazper…but really anyone else would do. Having a partner to hunt or fish with was always preferable to doing it alone. Showing the alphas that there was another steady source of food would just let them see once again that she was dedicated to the pack and protecting their livelihood.
