Caress my shattered heart

Word Count :: 969 :: Right now, due to some RL events, i feel like writing something a bit depressing, so, yeah, kick me for that. This takes place about three days after the war, and Luna is still very shocked due to it. Right now, she is in a very vulnerable state, so some confort will be welcome!

Feeling of soil against her hardened palms, a mahogany hand pulled a few weeds from the earth. A light curtain of water spread over the healer's head, damping her fur as her occupied hands searched the lower vegetation for more plants. One charteruse eye rose from the task to observe the damp landscape. Not even a soul crept in the area. All the animals had probably guarded themselves from the rainshower before getting wet. Now that she considered it, Luna should've done the same. Probably the wisest action right now would've been to stand up, and go back to her hut. But instead, she remained kneeled on the muddy ground, the fur on her arms covered with grimm and a few leaves, collecting whatever seemed useful for her store. But her eyes did not glimmer with the same shine anymore. They looked sad, as if she had lost something dear to her. In fact, she was trying to remember why had this happened...

Ever since the battle was over, since the clashes of stone, metal, bone and skin stopped, she began to feel light-headed, a sensation that she hardly felt anymore. The sensation began to increase as she observed the mass of corpses around her, her nose picking up nothing but the salty smell of blood, and nothing but the cries of victory and pain was picked by her ears. She managed to reach her home before she lost her balance. Once there, she curled on the floor, not even bothering to reach her room, closed her eyes... when she woke up again, the memories of the carnage had been wiped away from her memmory. So, when she left the village to clean herself in the creek --why was she dirty anyway? had she been playing in the mud again?-- she was shocked to see the blood-stained ground. Needless to say, the shock was so big that she remained hidden in her shelter for three days, slowly becoming thinner and weaker.

Now, she was collecting her medicinal plants in the same ground that had served as a battlefield so many days ago. Maybe, if she drank them in a tea, her memories would come back. After all, she did not know what had happened with many of her commarades. Had they lived? Where was Dawali? and Maska? What happened to Claudius?...Claudius. The promise she made so many days ago was still present in her mind. An innocent invitation for tea had resulted in a promise to see the man furthermore, a man whom she had seen several times, looking at Maska as if a blue fire crept beneath his eyes, a fire that longed to burn that green-marked skin. Yes, she wanted to see him again.

Her skirt was completely damp, but she didn't care. Instead, she collected her things and headed straight to her home. Her pacing was accompained by the faint hint of a silver shadow, which seemed to irradiate as much sadness as the earthen-colored woman beside her. She crossed the crops with a fast pace, starting to feel the sharp cold cutting through her exposed skin. Within minutes, she was back at the stone hut, pulling out whatever plants she had collected. Now fire. She said, walking through the house looking for some wood. She was sure that she had stored some somewhere...and there it was. Pulling a small amount of the fuel stored for the upcoming winter, she placed it in the fireplace and lit it. Soon, yellow flames illuminated the creepy house and casted the shadow of the healer on the rocky walls. However, the same light couldn't reach the woman's eyes. She was sad, sad for those souls who had fought an unnecessary war; sad for the broken families; sad for the cries of pain, for the tattered skin, for the spilled blood...even though she did not know how had it happened anymore.

"Now, plants." She said, looking through the stack of leaves and muccy roots that laid beside her. She looked through it until she separated those which would be edible, and discarded the rest for further use. A Cup was filled with rain water, and some green was added to it. Now, all she had to do was to wait for the plant to release its flavour on the water. "Remember, remember." She chanted, sitting before the source of heat and holding her head between her hands. "This, shouldn't have happened. He needn't have started this war." The image of the death field were still there in her memmory. Maybe it was better if she did not remember. Maybe she should be grateful for having those images erased from her memory. "Some things are better left unknown." An inaudible voice said, accompained by the cold touch of an inmaterial body. Luna knew that the ghost had returned, and she was glad to have some company. "Maybe you're right, Kali. But...it is just...too much." Her vivid voice was now struggling to even come out of her dried throat. Cold and dampness were never a good combination. "Just go on. You are not alone, remember?" The faces of her packmates came to her thoughts, illuminating a bit her gloomy mood. "You're right. Maybe all i need is some rest..." As she said so, she felt her limbs come to life again, numbed due to her recent activities. Her face, dreary and dreamy, fought the veil of sleepyness that threatened to fall upon her. The fire may cause more damage than good. At times, she dozed off, only to snap out of her dizzyness when the fire emitted a creak louder than normal. A streak of damp hair fell on her face, unmoving, as if it was waiting for a tender hand to tuck it away.

OOC: Ayasha to the rescue!

IC: Ayasha was heading from her mother’s house to the border to pick her patrols back up. She was currently the only scout in AniWaya. She hadn’t seen Foxglove and didn’t know her very well so wasn’t sure if she even was coming back to AniWaya or not. She wouldn’t blame her for staying away. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to come back if her own people imprisoned her. So her job was rather important.

She hadn’t fully processed all that had happened the last few weeks. She had killed a wolf and assisted in the killing of another. Not to mention that she did it by betraying them. Not that she liked them but still. There was something unsettling about that. Plus, she had a scar to remind her of the action. She also had been in her first battle, and hopefully her last for a long time. She had seen her mom get angry protecting her and nearly got killed. She also nearly got killed in the raid as well.

She passed by Luna’s hut and heard her talk to what she assumed was a ghost. She went up to the hut and knocked. ”Luna? Are you alright?” She hoped that her gentle friend was all right after the battle. She didn’t know her part but hoped that she wasn’t hurt.

394w :: XD

Although she heard the soft voice calling for her somewhere behind her, the female took her time to meet that someone's eyes, partly due to the stiffness that limited her movements. Shiny green came upon a very familiar pair of blue eyes. Part of her wondered what was she doing here, since it seemed inapropiate for the youthful girl to be strolling under the clouded sky instead of taking care of her family; but another part of her, the egoist side, was happy to know that somebody had paid attention to her lonely self and was actually asking for her well being.

"Ayasha? What are you doing here?" She asked, rather harshly due to her voice. Turning her whole torso towards her (her lower back began to sting, seeming as she had been bent for too long) and motioned her to get closer to the heat encircling the fireplace. "Come here, sweetie." She scooted aside to make some space for her, and, discreetly, she glanced sidewards to check on the spectral presence that had accompained her moments ago. She was gone. She could feeli it somewhere near her, but she was also gone. It was difficult to tell off when was Kali with her and when had she passed to her own, ethereal dimension, but she guessed that that was something solely for the dead ones to know. Anyways, some day she would find out about it on her own.

Glancing back to her younger companion, she realized that she hadn't answered her question, and also that she did not really want to answer that. "I'm...ok." She said, looking at her body. Apart from a few bruises, there were no visible marks that interrupted the wood shades of her fur that had resulted from the recent war. Her answer had only mentioned the physical part, which was far better compared with how she felt now. "I am just tired. This is something that doesn't erase easily." She sighed. Of course that the vision of the battlefield wasn't something easy to forget, and she would be dealing with it for a long time before happier memories took its place. "Are you ok, Ayasha?" She wondered as she twisted the edges of her skirt's dirty fabric, finding a new interest at how the fire reflected on the hot drink she had placed beside the fire.
