pour some sugar on me

ooc: Sugarwoods.

ic: The cold blistering wind that ran of winter on the air made her frown. She hated the cold, as much as she hated the cold though she couldn't come up with a reasonable excuse as to why she should be sitting in her den doing nothing. She had gathered quite a few pelts and blankets from the mansion and guest house, making her little treehouse hideaway a warm little nest, but as snug a bug in a rug she had forced herself out into the cold that day to make the general rounds of the lands.

She had left borders far behind her though and had headed deeper into the woods. She had been enjoying the whipping of the leaves across her track and the crisp fresh scent on the breeze, though the bitter cold was the harsh reminder of winter to come. The tiny woman sat with her wolf skin pelt pulled tight around her small frame as she stared into the distant unclaimed lands, wondering what would have happened if she had never left Phoenix Valley, but glad just the same that she had.

heck yes, def leppard... saw them this summer. Smile

Autumn was her favorite season. The colder temperatures allowed her to roam comfortably, without having to pause to catch her breath and rest from strangling heat. There was no season more lovely, not even Spring. The most exotic, colorful wildflowers did not compare to the fiery, almost overwhelming hues of the leaves that hung dying from their branches. She was drawn to melancholy beauty.

Dusk had traveled South to see her sister too urgently to explore the lands as she passed them. With her purpose behind her, the lithe wolfdog took her time on her return to the North. The emerald conifers transformed smoothly into a vast forest of sweet-smelling trees, maples. Their leaves were past their utmost beauty, bright, bloody crimson now dull golden and brown. She paused, looking wistfully into the canopy with half-closed eyes and imagining what the colors had once been.

With deliberate footsteps, the cocoa lupus continued. Her pads crushed brittle fallen leaves and the wind swirled around her, the unique melody of Autumn. It conjured memories of a careless life that had fallen far behind her. There was a change in the still life surrounding her, a small canine form wrapped in rough furs. A soft woof escaped her lips and she moved into the tiny woman's line of sight. ... Hello, was her chilly greeting.

For once the tiny Lykoi was in a mellow mood. There was little that filled her mind and teased at her worries. Normally it was a whirlwind of thoughts flitting in and out of her brain that kept her on her toes and a gruff grouchy tone to her voice. Today though, she just simply turned towards the strange and gazed at her quietly, the eyes of a older woman peering from what seemed to be the face of a child. "Hello.." She repeated softly as she watched the stranger.

The scent that whirled about her spoke of no pack she knew, relaxing the young lady a bit, though she knew that a stranger could be just as dangerous as any pack member, sometimes even worse. Her eyes dared the woman to try something as she studied her. "Snow is coming..." she said suddenly, the cold went scent of frosty water on the breeze, the fresh scent of snow to come promised in the forecast. She could have looked at the sky, the dark gloomly clouds, the fact that the temperature had changed so suddenly, but she hadn't. She knew that scent and she always would. Idle talk was all the woman had for a stranger in passing right now.

Confronting Sky had tamed the tension that kept her shy of others. She would remain antisocial, better suited to her own thoughts, but she no longer felt such revulsion toward ordinary conversation. It had happened the instant she had realized her mistake. She was wary still, and cold, but no longer incapable of interaction.

Her greeting returned, Dusk stepped closer, intense orange eyes watching the little young woman with interest. Her lavender eyes were strange. There was wisdom in them that did not quite equate to the youth of her face. Dusk was curious and unsettled, but unafraid. Though mysterious, the stranger was no threat to her. By now, the hybrid would have sensed any foulness, and so far none existed between them.

Snow... yes, she responded quietly. Her gaze drifted upward to the ashen clouds swirling in fragments among the leaves, too thick and angry for rain. Yes, Autumn was almost over, and she had enjoyed very little of it. Soon, the trees would be bare and the dead leaves underfoot would be replaced by thick drifts of snow. It would be cold, Winter suited Dusk, too. Looking back to the tawny female, she noted dully, It seems too early.

Zana had frowned at the woman's response and had almost instantly shook her head. "The seasons don't wait for us to be ready.." She pictured up a single leaf, a sassafras leaf, the sharp fragrance of the oils pungent and strong as she let the leaf go, the winds whipping the small stalk away quickly as she continued. "If earth waited for us to be ready then we'd all be fat, lazy and hardly useful." She could feel the cold beginning to creep around the edges of her pelt as she looked back to wards the stranger with her ever watchful lilac orbs.

The eerie sound of the wind whistling through the trees was the only sound for a moment before Zana asked. "Where are you from anyways stranger.." She knew she could ask the woman for a name but she didn't feel she needed one just yet. She wasn't even certain why she had stopped when the woman had said hello, she could have walked on by but she hadn't. Now she waited to find out where this stranger came from bringing with her the cold rush of winter.

Her dark nose twitched for the spicy aroma of the leaf in the other's fingers, eyes watching it spin in her grasp. As it was released into the powerful breeze, her gaze followed it, until it landed on the earth in the distance, to be forgotten. Dusk had yet to hear such a profound observation from one so young - but this woman was somehow not a youth at all. She would not forget what had been spoken. No matter how much one phase of the earth's cycle was enjoyed, it would advance of its own, keeping all life guarded. That is true, and she had no more to add but a soft resigned sigh.

After a silence followed Dusk was asked a question she had expected. It took her a moment to respond. She was not entirely sure why she stood before the smaller creature still, making meaningless conversation. But she had ideas. Perhaps it was all the time she had spent alone that urged her to stop, speak and listen. It could easily have been something about the tiny coywolf that was too alluring to ignore. Regardless, she was here, and content with it. I have been alone for a long time. At least two years, and half of her life. It was all she could understand now, though before that time she had been part of something larger. And you? she asked with a tilted brow..

She couldn't help but grin slightly at the almost wistful sigh that escaped the woman. There wasn't much one could say to the coming of snow, which would later bring ice, bitter cold and more and more and more snow. Life would be hard and harsh and only the strong and determined would survive unless they had the strength in numbers that a pack gave one. She watched the woman before her, thinking that she might be one that could survive the winter, but she wouldn't know until spring.

Zana was smart enough not to voice this opinion but she did grant the woman an answer to the question she asked. "I have always had family wherever I turn.. I don't believe I could ever truly be alone here, even if I wanted to be.." She smiled slightly at the idea. She knew that she could escape her family if she wanted, but Inferni was more than family and she wasn't sure if this creature of singularity would be able to understand just what she found in the comforts of blood and fangs that was the fierce nature of her clan.

Her expression chilled. What the smaller hybrid had shared was what Dusk had wished for since it had ended for her. She had once been like her, cared for and supported by a strong family. From the smile that subtly appeared, Dusk assumed that the woman was reasonably happy, and if not quite that, most likely happier than she was. She felt no superiority because of her ability to survive alone. It was a dull and often miserable way to live, especially for a girl who had known about love and companionship all her life, yet continued to deny herself such luxuries.

Dusk crept closer and finally sat down. I think you're lucky, she ventured, careful that her tone remained flat. Being trapped with only yourself becomes stifling. It was somewhat of an understatement. When there was no way to relieve them to another, thoughts eventually became irritating and sometimes even dangerous. She had barely spared herself insanity with her decision to come to this place.

Zana turned slightly to watch the woman as she moved closer. She had grown relaxed with the newcomer and yet she was slightly baffled by the words of the woman. She flicked an ear back as she smiled slightly. "I know.. I've been there before." Zana said as she wondered just what the woman had been through and why she seemed so sad about it.

She flicked an ear back and asked, "Why do you live alone then?" she believed that the woman had chose to be alone, it seemed that way. She could have been wrong but she didn't want to push too far with the woman just yet. If she had things to share she would open up when ready.

Dusk is so overly emo.

Feeling comforted by the words and the smile the young woman had given her, Dusk looked briefly away so that the other could not see her eyes. She was surprised by her sudden boldness. Voicing her pain had given her some relief, but she felt exposed and weak before this hybrid who was so much younger, and who knew nothing about her other than what she had shared in the past few moments. It was also very possible that Zana did not genuinely wish to hear the woes of a middle aged woman. For the few seconds in which her eyes were aimed at a tree to the coywolf's left, Dusk struggled to choose between her own pride and the strange comfort she reaped from the smaller canine.

When she met the silvered lavender gaze again, Dusk's expression was entirely composed, as if she had merely become interested in something on the bark of the tree she had glanced at. It was comfortable for a while, but not anymore, she spoke vaguely. I will join a pack before the Spring. The idea terrified her, which was why she fully planned to put it off until her procrastination became more of a nuisance than her fear.

Realizing that neither knew the other's name, the wolfdog drew a sigh through her nostrils. What is your name? she asked, her tone much lighter.
