The day was feeling brisk; the snow was falling in light flakes. Saxif held out her tongue so relieved to see the snow. The seasons here were far different than at home, her memories had been mostly of snow apart from the brief time when the light vegetation started to wilt and change. The fall now held such a sorrow to the blonde female, it was a season of complete and utter chaos. Some moments were good others so unsettling. That season was finally done and the snow held so much promises so much desire.

Her hands went to the light budding bump on her stomach; she had been watching the pups within her new home. The way her best friend had been with them, he was going to be such an amazing father to her pups. Her thoughts drifted back to the snow when a large flake touched the tip of her nose and she smiled. She had such an amazing puphood in the snow, the bounding and digging an endless array of fun. She hoped her pups would get the chance to gain those memories before it melted. Spring here though was almost of equal beauty but back home life was about winter.

Her thick coat was definitely prepared for the winter so as the wind cut through the air she merely breathed in the brisk scent and smiled. She started to shift into her lupus form. Her arm was finally in the last stages of healing, it was merely a dull ache when the weather changed but now it was painless so she had no doubt four legs would be fine. As her shift was halfway through she was going to settle in a small clearing just to watch the snowfall when she heard a growl in the distance. It was feline and sounded extremely angry; Saxif halted her shift in Secui and considered running home to the safety of the pack land when a blur of grey started coming toward her. She was torn between running and facing whatever beast chose to expose them self to her fury. Then she remembered the life within her, which is when she started the run.

It was awkward at first her four legs unused for so long took a moment for stride to take hold. She could hear two sets of prints behind her and the hissing growl of a feline creature. She looked around but never back as she searched for a way to evade them. She knew the lands well always taught to keep your land known. It was just this type of situation that her uncle taught her this lesson if not just for the hunt. There was a river coming to her left so with a sudden fake to the right she was headed left. She could feel her body grow excited and her golden paws beat into the frosted land. Snow falling golden fur bouncing if her life hadn’t been in danger it would have been a very happy moment. She could see the partially iced river, hoping that the felines would back down from a chilly swim. She leapt into the air and embraced the cold water’s chill like a drug as it rushed her blood to her heart.

WC: 1,000+ Ohmygod I'm so sorry for the length! I hit 950 then I wanted the damn points for more. xD So...have a longass post whose length you don't have to match at all. And Ves is right in that she is a dumbass. <3

In hindsight, it might have been idiotic to try to steal from a mountain lion.

Vesper had not been thinking clearly since this morning, when she had ventured from Infernian lands out into the snowy world of the neutral territories. It was by no means a blizzard, but the sight of the sparkling flakes had made the cold seem so much more real. She wanted to help the clan out by hunting, but she didn’t know the prey routes within the territory as well as she did in the Dampwoods and surrounding neutral lands. After all, a month ago she had expected to be surviving the winter as a loner, not as a coyote in a cozy cave. She’d taken stock of all the best hunting patches here, and so here was where she trotted to when hunger gripped her and thoughts of the snow dazzled her head.

The hunger aspect had become more pressing than she’d thought when she’d missed the first two rabbits she had been stalking. Cursing herself, she loped back along the leaf-covered trail with ears pricked for any other animal sounds. She’d even take a squirrel if she had to, no matter how much she resented those foul, chattering, brush-tailed things.

And so, her judgment compromised, the deer carcass hidden under the weight of the big cat had looked very promising. The coywolf licked her lips and snuck around when it glanced in her direction. Her plan was spotty at best, but she’d stolen kills before—a long time ago, but surely that was when she was less experienced in the risky art.

The Tirones darted forward, grabbed the cougar’s black-tipped tail in her teeth, and pulled.

Immediately, the large tawny feline screamed and whipped around. Ves had released the tail as soon as she’d touched it, knowing just how flexible the creatures could be and not wanting to anchor herself to it. However, even the agile coywolf wasn’t quick enough to avoid one claw to the face; it opened the old scar across her eyebrow where her father’s fang had cut her. Blood immediately welled from the wound and fell into her eye, but she leaped back.

The cougar paused, glowering at her, tail-tip flicking thoughtfully. Did it want to deal with this pest?

Vesper sneered. “Here, kitty!”

And the mountain lion caterwauled when she leaped in range, pouncing for her and missing her haunches by inches. The hybrid darted through the trees, her paws slipping only once on the snow and fallen leaves. She was used to such treacherous footing and practiced obsessively to keep her balance, though she knew that cougars could run across deep snow with their fluffy and large paws. However, her body was smaller, and she weaved as much as she could in hopes of losing it.

There was some theory to the madness. As insane as the goading was, the she-yote was not going to actively steal a kill right out from under a lion’s nose. Her plan had been to piss the creature off and lead it away from the carcass before doubling back once the beast got tired. She knew that cougars were ambush predators, better at hiding then executing insane leaps to grab their prey, while canines had better endurance. She thought she could outlast the beast.

What she hadn’t counted on was the creature’s speed. And while she apparently had an appetence for danger, she was not going to test her luck any more than she already was.

Transforming mid-run was something she had never tried before, but with the cat nipping at her tail, she attempted it. The transformation to optime would have meant instant death, but she focused on changing to secui, a little bit at a time. Muscles bulked and legs lengthened, and the momentary twinge of discomfort caused her to stumble—luckily timed near the bushes she’d been eyeing. She threw herself into the undergrowth, the sheer necessity of the change spurring her on, and by the time the cougar caught back up and attacked the bush, she was able to leap out at its exposed stomach and knock it down.

A heavy paw nearly buffeted her head, but Vesper had already leaped away and started running again. The deer was the furthest thing from her mind at this point along with fun, and right now she was sprinting for her survival. Luckily, the secui form lent her additional speed, and strength if she were to need it. She pulled ahead a little bit at a time.

It was then that she thought she could see something pale against the snow and trees, but with her mind so focused on run, run, run she wasn’t able to discern that it was a wolf. As the cougar hissed, sprinting behind her, she finally managed to hear a splash and see the other canine in the river. The thought of the freezing sting of the water gave her momentary pause, but it was the only chance that she could take—and she hoped the other wolf didn’t absolutely hate her for bringing the mountain lion their way.

“Watch out!” Vesper shouted needlessly. She sprang as the cougar did, landing in the water and hearing the crack of ice as the mountain lion joined them. It broke through and screamed while Ves rode the wave toward the white-blonde female. She pressed her head against the other’s shoulder, urging her to the bank. The words “I’m a fucking idiot I’m so sorry” spilled from her mouth as the cat thrashed in the water, but she did her best to get the random stranger to safety. She was desperately glad for the added bulk of the secui form—both to push the woman and to keep her own body protected against the freezing river.

The mountain lion had other plans, though, and in its thrashing to get to the shore or to the wolves, one heavy paw slammed down on the hybrid’s rump. The impact sent Vesper underwater, her own lanky limbs flailing. She kicked and turned, staring at the cat as it clawed at the ice.

Slight PP again with pulling her out hope that's ok.

Saxif’s body hit the water with an impressive splash but she was quick to discover that her swimming in this form was beyond rusty. To her fast paced mind she felt like she was moving like a snail. She just hoped that the water would deter the felines from following her. The last way she wanted to die was at the claws of an overgrown cat. Her heart pumped with excitement and fear balled into one when she heard the yell of another behind her. She glanced back at the female but that is when she gained the first sight of the large cougar that had skidded into the water behind the girl and her paws started to kick harder.

When the female first pushed her she couldn’t help but to snap back at her with a growl as the cougar was on her mind. She was relieved to discover the help and started to paw at the other edge. She tried to grip the ice that was forming on the other side but her claws would just slide through the slush-layered top until it cracked beneath her her paw. This forced her under the water for a brief moment before she gave another attempt with a wet huff of her nose. She wondered what the female had done to piss of the cougar so badly. With another urge to keep trying from the stranger she finally sunk a few nails into the thicker ice at the bank. With a grunt and heave she pulled her water heavy form to the shore, she turned to help the other secui but she had gone under.

Saxif growled at the cougar batting at it to stay in the water before she tested the ice on the edge. Her golden eyes searched feverishly for the girl and though it was brief seconds before her limbs became apparent Saxif had feared the worst. She leaned her head out as far as she could her eyes ever watchful of the water frenzied feline that was desperately trying to get out of the brisk river. She managed to grab the scruff of the female but her paw slipped narrowly throwing her balanced as she pulled. Her hind claws luckily stay firm in the freezing mud as she carefully pulled her ashore.

Help me! She barked when she approached the edge where the cat had just gained grip of the ice. She started to jump on her forelegs muttering hopes for the ice to break. She had hoped the water would have given her a head start so this was plan B. She pounded harder as the cat started to growl in that nauseating manner that Saxif hated so she growled back fiercely. This had caused the cat to hiss and bat at the girl just as she was rising for another attempt to break the ice. She pulled up higher to dodge the attack thus gave her the chance to come down with great force. The ice cracked from the bank and the cougar’s weight tipped it back. It had attempted to jump but its hind legs slid forcing the cat back in the water. Saxif laughed and looked to the coy-wolf. Run! The huntress bounded off swiftly her tongue lolled out from the excitement of the flee.

WC: 419 Blahhhh.

Vesper was submerged for only a few seconds, but it seemed like an eternity. The water was unusually clear, sunlight slanting through it like gold knives, sharp as the feel of the cold on her skin. Her body shivered even as she thrashed her paws in an attempt to break the surface again, and she found solace only in the fact that the mountain lion was even less of a swimmer than she was. At least she was in a stronger form and a healthier state than when she and the Ichikan had braved a stretch of ocean; she knew she could do this. Teeth set, she hissed bubbles out of her mouth and swam.

Jaws closed around her scruff as she neared the icy edge of the river, and hearing and scent returned to as she broke free. Gasping once, the coywolf twisted her head the best she could, trying to paddle to help the golden-tinged female out when it came to pulling her to firm ground. At least she was still comparatively small in her secui form, about the weight of the average lupus wolf.

She felt the other slip, her leg splashing into the water, but Vesper had managed to gain some purchase on the bank by this point. She pulled herself up, using her hip against the other’s chest to help the stranger back up. The command made her ears prick before she saw that the mountain lion was clawing at the ice, trying to find a solid enough platform for its heavy, waterlogged body. Eyes narrowed, Vesper gave a decidedly coyote-like leap like she’d seen her mother do when hunting for lemmings—and the ice managed to crack after a few challenges between the wolf and cougar.

The woman laughed and barked for her to run, and Vesper grinned. “You don’t have to tell me twice!” she replied, whirling away with her and bounding across snow and grass and leaves. Now that their near-death experience was over, she found the rush of adrenaline pleasurable, ecstasy in her veins. She even let out a coyote-like yowl before grinning and running harder, at least until they were under the cover of the trees and she decided it safe. She doubted that the mountain lion, as pissed off as it was, would follow the canines this far.

“Once again,” Vesper announced, throwing herself to the ground with chest heaving and tail wagging, “I’m sorry!” The apology was coupled with cackles that seemed to hold little remorse, though.

Sax is diggin the scars XD

Saxif ran her tail wagging in delight as she glanced at the female beside her. Even with the danger the rush was beyond anything she had felt in ages. She had led them to a dense part of the forest and paused looking back toward the river. Her ears twitched back and forth as she panted heavily hoping the beast had given up on the pair. She looked to the girl who took a flop to the ground and smiled. That was one angry kitty. She chuckled a throaty laugh, it was always such a strange thing to laugh in secui form for the huntress. The scent of blood came to her nostrils and she set her golden gaze on the wound. It got you. She approached the female carefully and took notice to the scars adorning her body. Her tail twitched with a slight curiousness.

She inspected the wound then peered into the blue gaze of the timber colored girl. What did you do to make that thing so pissed off? A soft smile went to Saxif’s muzzle as she looked over the girl. She was very pretty and with their current predicament it was oddly easy to talk to the female. Normally she would be a bumbling idiot trying to impress her but her heart was beating too fast to flutter. She instinctively wanted to clean the cut for the female but just as she stepped closer bringing her face within inches of hers a hollering growl echoed in the trees. You really ticked this guy off. She looked to the girl and smiled taking off running once more. This cat was relentless and wasn’t going to give up so easily on the pair. They would need to find better hiding she thought and started to lead her toward some nearby caves.

Saxif glanced at the female beside her and though her face was already hot from the running she would have blushed. She bumped her hip gently into the girl and chuckled. The mountain lion was far from her mind as the adrenaline took over every part of her.

WC: 404

Vesper grinned in a crooked, lazy way at the pale female, her black-dappled chest heaving as she tried to regain her breath. As much exercising as she had attempted to do while getting used to Inferni, the run wasn’t killing her, but it was nice to flop down and gasp like a dying fish. Her blue eyes creased as the woman made her remarks then widened just a fraction as the other’s expression shifted ever so slightly—bringing softness to her face and those sundrop eyes. It took her a second to realize that she was indeed bleeding again, and she tilted her head, letting the blood fall on the snow.

“Nothing new,” she remarked, not feeling the need to gesture to the scars crisscrossing the rest of her body. The more recent ones stood out the most, but there were still faded ones coursing through her tawny fur, and the cougar’s mark would ensure that the scar from her first fight wouldn’t fade. Even as the numbness from the icy water faded, the pain barely fazed her because it was so damn familiar. She doubted she’d be feeling any sensation on her skin in a few years, if she kept up her pace.

The creamy-colored wolf leaned forward slightly, asking her a question, but Ves had eyes for the red swirls under her left eye. They reminded her slightly of Zalen’s mark, but these were more feminine and intricate. Her ears swiveled forward until they lowered at the sound of the caterwaul.

She smirked at the woman’s remark and chased after her, noting that she seemed to have an idea of where she was going. “I wanted a meal, but I guess its hunger was enough to rival mine.” She snorted, limbs flying. “Or maybe its mother just never taught it to share.” A lame remark, but one that was spat from panting jaws; she couldn’t really form a witty and coherent mark while sprinting for her life—especially in this kind of company.

The bump of the woman’s hip made her grin, and Vesper steered briefly into the wolf in retaliation before letting the both of them focus on running. She imagined rolling the entire globe underneath her with each push of her paws, putting more and more distance between them and the dogged cougar. She glanced over her shoulder to make sure it wasn’t in sight before asking, “Where to, gorgeous?”
