Helotes was so overwhelmed, and exhausted, and therefore had slept in way past the time he had meant to. It was almost noon when he finally opened his umber eyes, his body splayed out on the worn out, rusting bed in his room. It was cold, the fire having long since died out, and he shivered despite himself. He wasn’t in the mood to light it again, and he threw his legs over the side of the bed with a groan. His mind had been rested in the night, but in his wakefulness it was full of thoughts of his family. Both his brothers were now here, Jacinto seemed to be fitting in well but Columbine… he wasn’t so sure of his older brother. And then there was the terrible worry for his sister who had yet to show up, and the lingering grief resulting from his mother’s death. He had to get out… clear his mind.

Helotes left the mansion swiftly, the chilly air clung to the ground though the light snow that had fallen the day before was gone. He was cold, overly cold, and he needed to warm up. Without a thought he headed towards the Grottos, seeking out their steamy warmth. He had yet to partake of the hot springs, but now that he thought about it his muscles screamed for a dip. He ran, sometimes even falling onto all fours in his optime form, which looked very strange had anyone been looking.

It wasn’t long before he made it to the misty realm, and his nose helped him find what he was seeking. The springs frothed in the chill, and he paced the edge before slowly testing it with a paw. It was heavenly, and he lowered his trim body into the liquid with a sigh foretelling the release of his tension.

The small woman had been staying in the mansion while her wounds healed, but unlike the rest of Enkiel's patients she was horrible at staying put, resting, and the whole power of healing. Early that morning she had slipped out of the mansion and slowly made her path to the woods where she resided. The early morning ground was cold yet the closer she came to her den the warmer the ground became. She inhaled deeply, a soft sigh filling her small chest as she came upon the location of the great oak she had long ago claimed as her den. While she knew that it was foolish and probably dangerous she shifted to her optime form, feeling the muscles stretch and bones and teeth groan and shiftnwithin her as her body adjusted accordingly. It was a daunting task but the small Lykoi was determined. She was tired and sore by the end of it all but her wounds had remained sealed and she was able to climb into the nook where her den resided.

A sigh of comfort escaped her lips at being back home, the only thing missing was the kittens getting into everything, but they probably had more to destroy in the mansion than they ever would inside the hallowed out tree. She had flopped down upon her bednest, the furs and blankets enclosing the tiny lupercis form as her mind began to churn and flood with thoughts of the past week. She had wanted to go to Helotes shortly after his brother had been accepted and confront him, comfort him, confine in him...but she hadn't. She had turned into the coward she hated, the scared little girl...and in the end she only felt helpless and alone. Always alone.

Before she could stop it the tears had started to flow and the pygmy woman could do little more than curl into a ball and let the waters wash away her sins. She had fallen into a dreamless sleep without even realizing it, sleeping away the morning and early afternoon, waking only when the weak sunlight crept through the hallow of her tree and spread across her face.

She knew she needed to head back to the mansion before the others noticed her missing but upon scrambling out of the old oak she caught the scent of someone near she hadn't expected. Her heart beat rapidly as her breath caught in her throat. She shook slightly as she took first one step and then another as her paws brought her to the edge of the springs where Helotes had just slowly sank into the steaming waters. Her lilac orbs watched him, a wide range of emotions trapped inside and yet she didn't know what to say, what to do.

When had she lost the ability to be anything but who she was around this man, or was it more the fact she was tired of hiding behind a mask of stony emotions when her heart lead her down another path. She was shaking slightly as sheclinched her hands together

Helotes felt the hot water seemingly enter his veins and carry his physical pains away. He became like gelatin in the water and leaned his head back against the water’s edge and opened his mouth, letting his tongue lull out, Ah, dios mio… he whispered quietly before inhaling sharply. This inhale brought to him the smell of someone familiar, Zana, and from the smell of it she was very close. He lifted his head and turned, seeing her petite yet feminine form standing behind him. He smiled, crossing his arms over the bank and resting his chin on them, Hi… he said quietly; he was once again impressed by her silent approach.

He looked into her lilac orbs with his own burning umber ones. Zana had been his only true friend since he had come to Inferni; with her, he could be himself, not heeded by the need to prove himself to Ezekiel, or seduce a woman like he had Valkyrie, or fight someone like he had Vesper; no, Zana was like a sister… more than a sister.

He raised a wet, steaming paw from the water and beckoned her to him, Come here… he said gently, his voice wavering ever so slightly.

Something inside him suddenly began to hurt badly; all the stress he had endured these few months, all the fronts he had to put up, came crashing down at the feet of this small woman, and Helotes began to cry.

She knew it wouldn't take long for the dark hued male to realize she was there, her heart beating like a drum as she silently watched him. Those bronze orbs turned on her and it was like the sun had brust through the icy exterior she often wore. She swallowed as he recognized her, greeting her so simply as everything seemed to fall apart in the world around them.

Her voice was soft and shaky as she answered to his beckoning. "Helotes..." she didn't even finish what she had been trying to piece together, there was no point. Her body moved to bring her into his arms, her tiny paws digging into his dark mane as his tears fell. There was nothing she could say to make things right, she could not change the past, and she was afraid of the future. Instead she held the man close, a soft whine escaping her throat as she whispered. "I'm sorry..." tears rose in her lilac eyes as she wished she were anyone else, that she could be the woman he needed, he deserved.

She came to him, just as he expected, for he knew they were like one in the same; two souls forced to act against their most genuine natures. Her small hand entered his, while her other tangled itself into his mane and he could see her weeping with him. He buried his snout into the tiny nape of her neck; she smelled of medicine, tea, and poison and the scent made his tears just flow all the harder. He hiccupped, his back heaving as the tears fell; though it hurt now, he could feel the relief already begin to start within his heart.

He held Zana near him for a while, crying softly, thinking of his now dead mother, thinking of the hate filling Columbine’s heart, thinking of his lost sister. Helotes, for all his physical strength and will could not contain these dreadful emotions. The Lykoi nuzzled deeper into his cousin's orange fur, drawing comfort from her. She was still injured, but he was also injured. Gently, he lifted her, an easy task, and lowered her softly into the water beside him, onto one of his knees so she would not sink below the surface.

Helotes watched with tear stained eyes at her fur darkened in the water, the tips of her mane turning to ringlets in the steam. She was beautiful, more beautiful he decided than any woman he had ever had in a tryst with, and before he could even think the words lept from his mouth like fire he could not stop, Te amo… te amo. and he began to lick her small cheeks

The swirling of mists and steam surrounded them before she even knew it Helotes maw was pressed close to her throat, the scent of the man surrounding her as she closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. She would know that scent anywhere, it was locked away in her memory and she knew it would always be. The young woman could never admit it but she didn't ever want to forget it either. Her nails dug deep into his mane as she pulled him as close as she could, the tears and sobs of Helotes racking her body as well as his own as slowly, ever so slowly they came to a slow close.

Her eyes had been closed again, lost in what torment had brought Helotes to draw her to him and yet she was afraid, so afraid that any second he would look at her and see a child, see that she could never been a real woman, her body seemingly trapped in a state of torment as reality crashed down upon her heart. Tears rolled softly down her face and maw as before she knew it Helotes had pulled her down onto his knee. Her breath cut quickly as she turned her face up towards Helote's once more.

The hunger in his eyes almost scared her. She couldn't help but become absorbed in those orbs as she could feel his eyes rolling over her form. A shiver chimed down her spine as those words spilled from his maw, her breath ragged as fear filled her eyes. No matter what language those words were spoken in one always knew what the words of the heart were saying. His tongue brushed her check as a sob broke from her throat.

"No... Helotes... No." she cried gently. He had said the words shed wanted to hear but she was a realistic soul deep down, her life had made her such. She couldn't let him waste his life, never have all those things that were his right...just because she for once wanted to be selfish and say yes...when yes was all she wanted to cry out...but she lied, for him she would lie.

He couldn’t understand why these feelings were coming forth; they frightened him and he wasn’t sure how to react to them. But Zana seemed frightened by him in that moment too, telling him no, telling him that it was not right. The selfish part of his heart told him to heed her words, that she would never be good enough for him, that he needed a woman like Valkyrie or Clover to satisfy his needs. But the genuine part of him begged to differ, pleading that what he really needed was an equal of the heart, and equal of the spirit; the body was just a secondary thing.

This internal battle confused him and made him dizzy and he wasn’t sure how to react; but Zana tasted good, her tears adding salt to her usual flavor and Helotes could not stop but continue licking her. He moved down to her chest, her tiny breasts less like melons and more like eggs, but to Helotes this didn’t matter, just as their feel under his tongue did not cause him any sexual tension, though a heat built up inside him. But a rational part of his mind pulled him back and he withdrew his advances and leaned his head back once more with a heavy sigh. I’m sorry… forgive me…

A part of him wanted nothing more than continue down the path that he had just started, but their friendship was so precious to him that he could not continue without her approval; she was a beautiful, sexy woman in her own right; but he knew that this could possibly be extremely uncomfortable for her, and the last thing Helotes wanted to do was caused Zana discomfort.

She regretted the words as they had fallen. She knew that Helotes was a proud man, with every right to be and she feared slightly that she would ruin everything between them. There was no right answer, there was no wrong. There was only two hearts lost in the great divide, in a love so troubled it would always be a tightwire act with no safety net to catch them if they fell.

Zana had always marveled at how the love between her own brother and the princess of Inferni had been strong enough to last, but even common sense told her in the end it had not worked in their favor. Their love had nearly caused war between their lands and in the end while they love their pack and clan, neither could exist in this world they lived in...they had eloped to far distant lands to find peace and love where their differences were not viewed as diversity yet merely another stone in a river of everlasting ripples.

She had thought that the older male would have pulled away instantly when her small voice had called forth and yet he did not. She sobbed quietly as his tender touch caressed her body, his tongue trailing down her throat and collarbone as she gasped softly. Shivers of desire fought her rash mind as her claws raked across his scalp, a whine of fear and delight working in her throat as she knew it was wrong, but it was the right kind of wrong...

A small voice inside her demanded to be heard as she wished she had never fallen into his arms. She needed this, she deserved this. They were one and the same, filled with fire and tenderness just the same. They would wound each other over and over in a battle of right and wrong, heart and soul. Life was not fair, she'd known this for far to long and even now she still felt the pinch of the battle as it began to rage.

And almost too soon Helotes had pulled away, her nails pulling through his mane as those words of apology rang from that voice she had grown to love. Her whole body quivered as she leaned into his, her chest pressed against his as she let her muzzle fall to the arch of his neck, the line that ran so elegantly to dip into his collarbone quietly traced with the tip of her tongue, his taste so savage and sweet as she whispered. "For what..." her voice was shaking as tears stained her eyes.

Eternal ringlets framed her small face as she whispered. "I'm afraid..." She needed him, but she was so afraid of those three tiny words that could change everything. They threatened to burst free with every beat of her heart but she couldn't do this alone. It was cruel and bittersweet, but that too was love.

Hopefully Zana doesn't freak out that he almost bit her there XD / +371

Helotes closed his eyes, his mind reeling; he wasn’t sure what the hell he was doing right now but he just wanted to forget about his worries for once and relax. The death of his mother had been such a blow to him he felt bruised, but this water was soothing and Zana was here. He opened his eyes and looked at his little cousin again just as she went to bury her sweet face into his neck. A throaty, lustful growl built in his chest, even though he tried to restrain it. Since he had first met her Helotes had been completely intrigued by Zana, by her swiftness, by her guile, and her little curves. Had she been his size he wondered if he would have felt the same or if he would have written her off. Either way, she was here now, and he enclosed her tiny form in his huge in comparison arms.

She said she was afraid, just as he had guessed, but he wasn’t sure if she was afraid of what she was feeling or afraid of what he was doing. Helotes wanted to make love to her, but knew that this was a near impossibility, lest he rip the poor girl in two. This physical cock block frustrated him to no end, and perhaps that’s why he had been so drawn to her; she as the only woman he could never have.

Yet at the same time she was his dearest friend, like a sister, and surely sex would ruin that bond as well. His mind told him that the whole idea of intimacy with Zana was irrational, dangerous and most likely implausible. But Helotes still wanted her Goddamnit! Why couldn’t he have her?

The lustful growl suddenly turned into a sharp snarl of anger and he closed his huge jaws over Zana’s shoulder, not breaking the skin but still causing pain; he was lashing out the only way he knew how, through violence, just as his father had taught him. It was only for a moment that his teeth where on her flesh before he withdrew, and his face softened again to dismay at he looked at her, It’s not fair. He said blatantly.

Her tiny hands were busy wrapped in his mane as she lowered her eyes down again to follow the lines of his chest and across the muscled planes of his abdomen. She had always been close enough to touch Helotes every time they had found each other in their roamings across the pack and lands. The fact that she could freely touch him now made her hands quiver and the small part of her mind that still worked insisted on keeping her tiny nails and fingers entwined in Helotes mane where they were not free to roam and explore what she so longed for.

A low growl meet her ears but she all but ignored the sound as she planted her muzzle deeper into the hollow of his neck, her teeth grazing his skin lightly as she sighed before she drew back slightly. Her eyes searched his face a moment before sliding her maw into the space between his shoulder and under his ear. Here she felt safe, no matter what there was out there this was where she belonged, where no one could touch her, harm her or even make her leave besides Helotes.

There was little warning as the lusty growl turned savage suddenly. She jerked suddenly as she felt his fangs close over her injured shoulder. A sharp gasp rose from her throat, ending in a soft whine as her own fangs flashed suddenly and quickly she nipped at his throat. Her heart rattled out of control in her chest as she pulled back from Helotes chest as his own voice cut through and said the exact words that ran through her own mind. "It never has been Helotes.." she said. It was true, at least in her world. Nothing was fair, nothing was right..but she learned to adjust. How to adjust though, when to love and be loved in return was all you ever wanted.

He reached up to rub at the place she had nipped him, but it was nothing more than a twinge. He was avoiding looking at her now, suddenly adding shame to the cacophony of the emotions he was feeling. He slowly lowered himself further into the water, which in turn lowered her too, but he tried to keep his knee raised so that she wouldn't go under. His crimson stained mane levitated in the water, the steam suddenly becoming heavier as the wind died down. Finally he chanced a look at her again, eyes still sad from his cry.

He sighed again, Zana, you are my best friend, and I wouldn’t ask to change that between us. But I will be honest; if I could I would fuck the shit out of you. It was funny him saying this and he could not help but smile, a little bit of humor coming back into the situation, which felt fantastic after all the melancholy and angst. At least it was good to get that out in the open, Helotes would not deny his physical attraction to her anymore, though he would still refrain on acting on them, for her sake. He decided however, that if she were ever to lose her mind and make a move on him, he would not refuse her.

Helotes stretched out his muscles in the water, now completely soaked to the bone and hot, save his head which was freezing in the chill of the air. He gave Zana a reprimanding look, You know, you shouldn’t be here. You need to be resting just like the Doc wants. Why don’t we go back to my room when we’re done here, maybe keeping you company will stop you from making more stupid decisions. He grinned at her.

Hher lilac orbs turned up to watch him, a savage wanting filling them as she tried to sort through emotions that she knew she should not be feeling but she couldn't deny. Helotes touch and the warmth of his flesh beside hers was like a fire that rolled and boiled in her veins. A flame that screamed caution but one also she never wished to extinguish. Her fingers twined around a lock of his crimsony mane as she felt her body lowering in the steaming springs. She pulled gently on Helotes mane as he raised his knee, leaning her frame against his body to ensure that she didn't slide under the rippling water as she let the water soak away her pains of the heart and soul.

Her mind was sluggish and slow as she caught Helotes eyes as the found her own once more. She almost didn't catch what the darker hued male had said as she leaned against his chest, just enjoying the beating of his heart. She lifted her head slightly as her hooded eyes. Closed lightly, a slight chirp rising from her throat as she taunted him horribly. "You wouldn't dare..." she finally said softly as she growled softly. She didn't doubt that her older cousin wouldn't. She was certain he had probably been with quite a few other females, probably some right with their own pack...but as much as she could tease there was a slight fear in her voice and eyes. While she had played games once or twice shed never taken the next step..she didn't dare..she had never even thought of crossing it..until now.

She had nearly lulled into a steamy sleep when Helotes words made her open her orbs again as she caught herself gazing up into a more serious and disiplined face. She gave him one of her saddest most pitiful looks as she whined. "But..I am resting.. right here.." she curled up against him again as she murmured."besides.. I don't know if you guarding over me in a bed will keep you from attempting anything stupid..." she grinned wickedly as she eyed him devilishly.

She chided him softly and he laughed allowed again. The spunk in this girl just killed him sometimes; it was one of the many things he truly loved about her. She seemed reluctant to leave, just as he thought she might be, and he brought her small frame closer to his body as he relaxed into the water again. They did not need to leave then, if she was comfortable; the natural hot spring was probably doing just as good as a job on her body as rest would have. Helotes reached up and spun one of the wet ringlets of her mane around his finger.

His mind then wandered to other things, in this instance it was the fact that both he and Zana had both been injured within weeks of each other. He suddenly became very curious as to what had really happened to her, Zana, who attacked you? Do you? And where were you? Part of his asking was to gain knowledge at to who’s throat he could rip out in the future, but also, if for any possible reason it had something to do with the Salsolian bitch or Salsola in general, then there might be a large problem on their hands.

Helotes had often though on his encounter with that wolfess; she had been extremely vicious, somewhat like how his father had been. Helotes wasn’t one to label himself as forgiving in trespassing situations, but he always gave those who did not heed the skulls to give their reasoning; he was afforded no such pleasantry in Salsola, and he wondered how it was that Inferni had managed to keep on good terms with them thus far. Apparently there were blood ties between the members of both packs, and he could understand the strength of that bond but still… blood only ran so thick.

She didn't say a word but secretly she was glad that he had decided to stay right where he was at. She enjoyed the warmth that sank into her muscles and the security of his firm flesh against her small form. Her eyes heavily lidded as her mind sank into a lucid fantasy she believed was nearly impossible. She wanted him to know in every way how she felt for him but she wondered if so soon it was lust or passion playing at the strings of her heart. She wouldn't push further for fear of the next step until she knew if she was just a fool rushing in or a fool for love.

The small woman had almost drifted off in her safe warm haven when a finger twined around her tiny ringletted hair brought her back to reality. She had tilted her head up to gaze at Helotes softly as his words dropped between them. She knew sooner or later she would have to answer the question but the woman's pride had adverted her thus far. There was no way around it now though. She sighed softly and pulled back away from Helotes encircling arms as she absently touched one of the puckered red scars across her chest.

Silence was Helotes only answer for as long as she dared delay until she let her head drop in defeat. "Salsola...I shouldn't have gone..I wanted to see just how far I could stretch my abilities and connections.." her lilac eyes flashed in anger as she remembered what had happened. How she had let the simplest of insults get to her. "She called me a freak..and I snapped and said things I shouldnt have..." her eyes grew misty with embarrassment as she finished. "I never crossed their borders..never." she had been afraid of mentioning it to anyone..Ezekiel had warned them. She had known better, but she was young and foolish. Now Helotes knew the truth of it all.

Helotes wondered if Zana would refuse to answer him, in which case he would force it out of her one way or another, but she succumbed to him and let forth what had happened as she gingerly touched on of the fresh scars marring her chest. Helotes reached out to touch it too as she spoke, the flesh taught and supple, causing something to rise below the water. He immediately suppressed it as Zana revealed that it was near Salsola that she been attacked, and by a female no less.

He stared at her, umber eyes wide, What…? He breathed, his voice like a hiss. It couldn’t be possible, was it the same female that had attacked them both? What did she look like? He asked suddenly, grabbing Zana by her tiny shoulders, Was she a grubby blonde with green eyes like the devil? If it did turn out to be the same female, Helotes would confront Ezekiel about this madness. In fact, he had been planning on going to the Aquila on his own behalf for a while.

Same female or not, something must be done about those attacking the Infernians; they were a proud and strong clan with warriors fit for battle, there should be no reason why they should take flack from anyone! In fact, if Helotes had his way, Inferni would make their presence known strongly to the other packs, rather then hiding here in the North, nearly as secretive as Salsola.

But these thoughts were dangerous and he could not afford them; Helotes was no where near fit to be a leader, especially not of a clan such as Inferni. For now he was content being a soldier for the clan, and remained ever loyal to Ezekiel. Besides, there came some advantages to being out of the leadership spot light.

She had almost been lost in her own little world but the simple touch of the male brought her back hard. It was like fire and ice riding waves through her veins. A steady boiling inside that she didn't wish to put out with chills that cascaded down her spine. Her eyes turned up to his, the deluted lavender hue unusually bright as she swallowed against the wash of emotions that had sparked from his touch.

The mess of emotions had nearly been estinguished though when Helotes voice turned darker and deeper. The soft hiss that turned almost savage as she was pulled forward suddenly by the grip he had on her shoulder. She had to swallow a yelp of searing pain as her eyes widened in slight fear. She shivered slightly as she answered. "Yes.." she couldn't comprehend though what the woman's appearance had to do with anything though, and then it hit. Helotes had been attacked by a female of the same pack...and it seemed the exact same beast all together now.

She swallowed hard and asked, "Helotes...don't.." but she couldn't finish the words. How do you tell a proud warrior not to do something stupid, not to take things into their own paws. She knew she shouldnt have been there, and even though she had never tresspassed she had fallen into the woman's game and lost her temper. She didn't need someone else fighting her battles..especially not someone she cared so about.

She confirmed it and his ears went flat against his head and he growled, showing all his teeth, but did not look at her, instead looked forward as if the bitch was right in front of him. His muscles tensed and all he wanted to do was jump out of them pool and run full sprint to Salsola to call her out and kill her like he knew he could. It took all his strength to resist these urges and slowly, ever so slowly his face soften back into a deep scowl. He couldn’t act foolishly like that, he would not stand a chance on his own if she wasn’t alone. No, this was something that needed to brought to the attention of the Aquila; Helotes just hoped that Ezekiel would do something about it.

With a frustrated sigh Helotes sunk back down into the water, You know… I don’t know what I would have done if you would have been killed. He looked at Zana softly again, You’re the only thing keeping me sane right now. The words hitched in his throat as he spoke them. It was true, that Zana was the only one he could turn to and confide in. His brothers were too close and Ezekiel was too far. Maybe Kaena would have sufficed but she tended to scoff and mock him like old farts sometimes did. No, instead this little female was the only one keeping him from going on a rampage.

He was starting to heat up to the point of discomfort and so he lifted Zana onto the edge before getting out and shaking himself dry and into a fluff ball. It was freezing outside the water and he knew the trek home would be ridiculously cold. It was only midday but the sun was already dipping into the horizon. He shivered suddenly and looked at Zana, Too bad your little hovel isn’t big enough for the both of us… He grinned, a funny image of the both of them stuffed into that tree coming into his mind.

A slight rise in alarm at Helotes distant anger sent chills down her spine in spite of the heat of the water. She slowly reached out and twined a lock of his mane around one finger as she quietly waited for him to come back to her. She had seen others in these fits in Eire and she had learned by now that in time they would return, she just wished it would be sooner than later. She felt as though she had been holding her breath until the male turned those umber orbs back towards her. She let out a slow draw of air as she smiled softly, glad to know the raging storm had passed for the moment in time.

Helotes finally sank back into the water and the tiny woman leaned against his chest as he gazed at her. A wrinkle furrowed between her eyes at his words as she shook her head. "It would take more than some coldhearted bitch to take me out of this world..." her eyes were serious as she said these words. She had grown careless in the other lands, this she knew and she wouldn't let it happen again. She tugged on the lock of his hair as she smiled slightly. "I'm suppose to worry about your hot head...not the other way around you know..." she teased, though in her heart she knew it was true, she would always worry about the temper and patience of the male. She had seen men go bezerk, she didn't need to see it again anytime soon.

The moment didn't last too long for her to worry so much though as Helotes placed her on the bank, Zana protesting slightly as he removed himself from the water and shook off. She could fill the chill cold already as Helotes spoke. She smiled at the idea and chuckled a moment before stating simply. " Wait here..." and in two seconds she had trotted the scant yards to her den in the mists of the springs.

The small woman had slowly climbed up to her den and quickly gathered the furs and blankets from her nest. She silently pushed them all out of her den entrance and down the the solid ground below. Leaping down to the furs was a soft landing and in mere moments the little woman had arranged the furs into a soft bed of sorts before returning to Helotes. "Do you think it will do?" she asked with a slight devilish look to her small face.
