Into the Woods (X'yrin, Jace, AW)
#1
Dated: December 4 at sundown

After a day spent in the resplendent Gampo Abbey garden, Indira felt possessed by a sense of purpose. She finally felt comfortable calling Ichika no-Hoen home, and now it was time to make it a more permanent bond. Jace Wolfe had given her an initation task before she could take a rightful place within this collection of canines, and now she was ready to seize the chance and to take her own place amongst those with permanent ranks. For some reason, now it felt like the time was right and she did not want to wait any longer.

In her two legged form, Indira appeared to be a gray blur against the setting sun. She let her senses guide her, picturing in her mind the scene from the mountain top where she had met the Yakosu and gained her task. Jace had charged her with the task of gathering enough wood for an Ichikan bonfire, something that would bring the pack together. And now she was ready to prepare for her role as a part of this whole that made up Ichika no-Hoen.

Indira’s pale blue eyes traced the shadowy figures of wooded giants as she reached Phoenix Forest. She had seen it from above when she had first come here, from atop the Halcyon Mountain. She stopped herself as she stood amid the quiet giants, listening to the small chirping and whispers of the insects that were preparing for nightfall. She wanted to respect the lives of these perennial giants, because it seemed that the presence of these trees made this place magical.

She lacked tools to bring down the wooded giants anyway, but decided she would rather not due that. It seemed sacrilegious. Instead, she turned her pale eyes to the ground, looking for branches that might have fallen because of the winds of winter. Surely, there would be enough. She did not care if she had to search the forest floor all night to accomplish her task.

Their talk of children and mothering instincts over Jace and X'yrin had decided to talk a walk to clear their heads and better get to know one another. The leaders of the Envoy and Elements class would be working together now and in the future, a good foundation in their relationship would be a necessary thing for it to endure and last through stress and strain without cracking and snapping. Jace's young boy Honrin galloped at their feet for a short while until he grew too tired to carry on and instead the mother picked him up and tucked him into one arm while he dozed with his head against her bicep, content with the rocking motion of her gait.

After the deepness of their previous conversation their talk was general and of nothing of consequence really, small things about what could be improved and the like. How the two classes could aid one another. Their walk took them far and wide and covered many miles, eventually pouring over into hours of company spent together and at the end of it the two women were fast on the way to becoming firm friends, bound together first by their shared experience of saving a life and then by Jace's assistance to X'yrin in matters most dire and important, when it came to children's welfare there was nothing that Jace would not do, she knew she would kill a man as soon as look at him if it meant the safety of her children, or indeed anyone's children.

It was with some surprise that Jace finally regonised a scent trail that crossed their paths. Instantly an image came to her mind of a respectful woman of brown tones and blue eyes. Her own orbs searched as she stopped in her walking, to see in the distance the four legged woman now on two looking up at the huge beast-like trees that dominated the Phoenix Forest. Surely the girl did not intend to cut down these giants somehow? She was relieved however when instead she bent and began to pick up twigs and branches from the ground. It was at this point that Honrin, revitalized from his nap sought to free himself of her arms. she let him down as he wished and the child sniffed interestedly at the ground around him, new smells and sights for him to explore.

"Indria!" Her voice echoed into the forest, it seemed they had stumbled upon her attempt to complete her initiation task.

The lady Jace had been a great help to the otherwise distraught Nomad. Her eyes had been opened and sullen spirit rejuvenated with the hope instilled by the mother’s comforting words. As they walked in comfortable conversation, time slipped by unnoticed, turning to hours of enlightened talk about the other aspects of the pack; of their duties and the like. Only recently had the Exultare inherited the rite to lead the Envoys of Ichika and like a fool she had squandered the blessing she had received by abandoning both post and duty simply because she did not want to face the reality of what was and what would be. However Jace’s words were an encouragement to bring her out of these dreary emotions and look ahead to what they both would be needed for. She could not afford to disappoint herself or the ones she would dedicate herself to train and make ready for the world. Wallowing was simply no longer an option.

But familiar talk had brought her out of her pitiful shell and for once she delved with interest into the life of another and found herself compelled to talk of herself. She touched lightly on her culture, the paths they lead and just a few of the practices they conducted on a daily bases. She even explained the site upon the mountains in which the Nomads would travel to breed and come together in celebration of another year of survival. X’yrin had fallen at ease beside her blossoming friend and pup, and truly felt herself smiling from the heart.

A pause to Jace’s stride stopped her own as they neared the Forest. An unfamiliar scent brought her hackles to stand on end defensively, her nostrils flaring to encapsulate the scent hoping that a hint of Ichika would be upon them. It was not the scent but Jace’s call to the she-wolf that brought ease to the woman again and rendered her defensive act unnecessary. Both wolf and owl upon her shoulder relaxed considerably. “A friend of yours, Lady Jace?” she asked kindly.

The Dai-In’s quest for fallen wood did not prove to be unfruitful. The pale eyed Ichikan had found small branches on the ground. Even if it took all night, Indira was committed to finding enough fire wood to bring to Pripyat Soul. She had just met the smoke colored man this morning, and he had seemed estranged from everything, sort of divorced from life and everything that wasn’t within himself. Indira hoped that she could help the Eika find fulfillment by lighting the Hibernal fires. Perhaps that would make him happy. Indira had seen a glimpse into something a little bit brighter when he had smiled. She hoped that she could do something to make her pack mate feel a little more at ease.

She flicked her ears when she heard her name called, so absorbed in her task that she hadn’t made note of the scents that now filled the air. She saw the familiar scarred visage of Jace Wolfe, and nodded her head at her, setting those branches she had collected on the ground as she called a greeting. ’Hi, Jace!” her voice called out, and her pale blue gaze took in one of Jace’s pups. She offered the boy a smile before redirecting her attention to the other Ichikan present. ”Hello. I am Indira Youroukelis,” she said, introducing herself to the unfamiliar one.

”I met Pripyat,” she explained, returning her gaze to Jace. ”I know I am a little late with my task, but I am ready to start helping for the Hibernal fire.” Her voice held enthusiasm, and she felt super charged with energy to accomplish what she had set out to do. Her pale gaze flickered back to the unknown wolf, curiosity written plainly on her slim coyote features. She wondered if it was X’yrin or Kiara, whom she had heard about from Vesper.

Jace's head turned slightly at X'yrin's words and she shrugged in a loose gestured way,

"Not so much a friend as an acquaintance. I accepted her into Ichika a few days ago, she was very easy going." The three of them, Jace, X'yrin and Honrin moved closer to the woman so as to better converse with her, there was no point shouting across several meters of forest. Honrin was unsure about this new female and hid slightly behind his mother's legs. He had yet to speak a single word to anybody including his own parents unlike his chatty younger sisters who were content to chatter away to themselves in both broken understandable speech and apparently fluent puppy speech which most adults would have forgotten completely by the time they had reached maturity, Jace herself couldn't remember the language of children she and her sister had spoken in for several months.

Jace smiled as Indria mentioned she had visited Pripyat and was glad she had inadvertently given the younger boy some company. Jace had worried after him ever since the girl who he seemed to have been developing a relationship with had been found dead near the water, although personally this had only solidified Jace's own fear of the water. she felt for the young girl although had never really spoken to her personally and didn't really know much about her, she still felt whenever a pack member died or left.

"Good, good. i did say that you would be given a few weeks to complete your task but I suppose the quicker you have it done then the less time you have to worry about it aye?" She was feeling decidedly chatty for her personality today,

"Say, If you don't mind..." here she truned her attention to X'yrin for a second, addressing the Kozan, "We could stay and assist you. That is if neither of you mind having company for a while." She looked between the two women

It had someone become a side task of hers, to help the new coming Ichikans with their tasks. Call it coincidence or the hand of fate, regardless she did not mind in the slightest to offer her aid. Her concern however, was placed in the young pup loping after them in the snow. His little body was certainly not about to stand the cold for long, and yet he looked quite fine. She smiled fondly at the boy as he hid behind his mother, not yet used to another new face. She whined softly to the pup, offering her own brand of security to remind the boy he was indeed protected and no harm would come to him.

She then lowered herself to all fours, standing awkwardly while still accommodated with the Optime body, but that began to change as muscle and bone shifted and realigned to better suit the larger of her four-legged forms. The she-wolf roughly shook out her mane and shoulders, lowering her heavy front into a bow to stretch her forelegs whilst looking between Jace and their new inductee. “I don’t mind helping at all,” she uttered quietly with a smile, already walking toward the thick trunk of the tree, nose down in search of fallen branches.

Above her she could hear the cackle and screech of her companion owl, no doubt finding it amusing that a wolf would be scouring the ground for sticks. She did ignore him, however, giving the bird a flippant flick of her tail in dismissal before addressing both females and pup. “Do ignore him,” she advised the small group. “He has the mind of a fledgling. And it is a pleasure to met you, Indira. I am X’yrin, Exultare of the Nomads and Kozan to the lands you now call home. And the nuisance above you,” she lifted her muzzle toward the owl and his flagrant show of speckled wings, “has no name. Or rather he refuses to give it.” The female lowered her head and returned her gaze to Indira with a smile and friendly sway of her tail. “It is always nice to see another face among our growing family. I hope Ichika becomes a home for you as it has for us.”
