The dark hybrid meandered amonst the trees. Winter-bared as they were, the thick knot of them obscured the plains outside of the small, southerly forest that was little more than a copse of trees. It protected the Millstone Village from intruders, however, and Eris rather enjoyed its serenity. The she-wolf moved slowly through the boscage, carefully avoiding the thornier low-hanging bushes. There were no duties to attend, and the dark woman was simply enjoying the late autumn walk, taking her last breaths of this season. Soon, the wheel would spin again and they would find winter howling at their borders, bringing with it snow and ice and perhaps death, too.

The dark hybrid's body had gained weight for just the season, and even now she stalked after a grouse, scaring it up and into flight and snatching it out of the air with her claws. The hybrid ate quickly, and of course, did not expend the effort to draw flame and cook the meat. Raw was as good as cooked, and the bird was delicious, as if it had been made so simply to prove her right. In a good mood now, the dark woman headed back toward the ruins, intending to spend some time with her daughters. The three inquisitive youths were growing bolder and bolder as they days passed; they were larger than she could believe, perhaps as large as Pandemic and Salvia when she had first told them of her second pregnancy.

Fond memories filled her head, and she detoured south along the Borgata Zopilote, her pace leisurely and her head thrown back, tail wavering her rank rather plainly, though in not so strenuous a manner as to make her appear too "striving." Salsola was a small territory and they had many members, but it would seem on this winter day, she would remain alone for at least a little bit longer.

The seaside is where Liliya spent most of her time so it was no surprise that she stalked through Zopilote, with its abundance of shoreline. The Russo woman walked with a purpose today, though, and a destination. For the first time in numerous weeks she wasn’t on her way to salvage materials from Salsoa, nor was she out looking for help on her projects. Today her hard work had finally paid off and it was time for her leaders to know.

Her supplies were nowhere to be seen, having been deposited back into the pack’s stores days ago save for those that she would need to use frequently - like the rope that had been used to tow lumber which she now planned to use to make a second fishing net. She donned her usual meager outfit which was quickly becoming insufficient against the cooling days, and today she carried a bag different than the pack she had arrived in Salsoa with.

She held the package with both hands close to her body as she walked, as though unwilling to risk anyone leaping out and snatching it from her. To Liliya it held more than just an item and was valuable beyond measure. It was the first bounty after all that construction, the pay off for her hard work, and she would have no one look inside until her alpha’s did.

She had been heading for the Dark Lady’s house, knowing that she was the first to discover the island’s treasures and that she would know what the contents of the bag meant. She couldn’t help the small smirk on her face, as excited as she was.

It was to her surprise when she saw a dark shadow moving near the path that she paced. Her gray eyes widened for a moment and her fingers tightened around the burlap as her innermost fear surfaced… Someone was here to take her bounty! Yet the image had been dark, and the stance proud, and when she caught sight of the shadow again she saw it wasn’t just some random overconfident Luperci.

“Madam Eris!” She yipped in a very coyote like fashion, her ears dipping back and her tail whipping the air furiously. “I vhas just lookingk for you!” She waved a hand before subconsciously clinging to the bag again as she hurried toward her alpha. “Are you havingk spare minute one?” she paused, shook her head, and tried that one again, talking slower this time. “Do you have minute? Is good news I bring to you!” She held up the bag as if Eris could divine what was inside, but did not hand it over yet.

The sable hybrid was often forgetful of just how much coyote blood Salsola claimed. While there were none that she knew of who could claim full coyote heritage other than the elderly slave Verusha, there were a great many of Salsola who were part coyote. Their very leader appeared more coyote than wolf, and she herself carried decent enough percentage, even if she looked the part of a wolf. Her children were far more wolfish, but Ataxia seemed to be developing the most coyote features of Eris's children, surpassing even young Wretch as Eris remembered her.

It was as she wandered through the copse behind the village area she was reminded of how coyote Salsola was in reality. A yelp interrupted her thoughts, and she turned at the sound of her name, somewhat alarmed. Relieved to see Liliya was merely excited rather than alarmed herself, the dark woman relaxed, taking a few steps toward and then extending her body in Liliya's direction, brushing past the bag for the moment to lean forward and deliver their customary greeting of a nuzzle to each side of the woman's face.

Of course, dear Liliya! What has your spirit all aflame? she inquired, genuinely curious. It showed in her perked ears and wavering tail, the way she had not ceased leaning her body toward Liliya. She had retreated some, but she was still close, too. Her yellow-green eyes wandered to the bag, but she did not inquire, content to wait for explanation that was certain to come shortly. The posturing had disappeared, as Eris felt no need to rub her rank in anyone's face unless given reason to do so. Liliya knew her place, and had ambition and intelligence enough to escape it, given time. The dark-shaded hybrid would get no satisfaction or advantage from parading her rank like a buffoon.

Good, she wasn’t interrupting anything important. Not that it would have stopped her from trying to deliver the gift to Eris, but it was a relief that she wasn’t annoying her Dark Lady right now. The woman recognized her in an instant and greeted her welcomingly in the Salsoan fashion. Liliya returned the gesture, pressing cheek to cheek. Eris’s very presence was dripping with command and Liliya was receptive to it, even if the woman wasn’t playing posture games right now. Liliya’s tail still wagged, proud to be in the presence of her leader, and her ears flicked from time to time in excitement.

When they stepped back she smiled and thrust the bag in front of her, holding it out to Eris and clearly beaming with pride. “I have somesingk for you that I think you vhill like. Is first ones, but oh there are so many more. Winter has not hurt them yet! By the looks of them, they are invincible. Here, take a look.”

She was too excited to wait for Eris to open the bag, so she did it herself, pinching the edges between deft fingers and holding it open for her to see. The bag was pregnant with mushrooms, stuffed to the brim with fungi. It was no wonder Liliya clutched this precious treasure as she had done so. With the bag open displaying the gray, spongy things, she nudged it toward Eris. This offering was for her, and she hoped she would accept, and that Eris would understand the importance of what this offering meant. She turned excited, hopeful eyes to her leader.

Hurrdurr what is spreeing.

Eris is by Poppz!

There was a particular scent on the air Eris recognized after a moment, and she peered at Liliya with sharper suspicion thereafter, though it was not a bad sort of suspicion -- rather, it was closer to expectation, and the dark-hued woman seemed alive with it. She reached for the bag, and her Associate's hands flew over the top of it, drawing open the top of the bag to reveal a wonderful array of mushrooms. None neared the largeness of the veriest of size in Eterne, but they were healthy, no doubt, and they gave a lovely bluish sheen the Auxiliary knew all too well.

The coal-hued woman gave a yelp of girlish surprise and joy, forgetting herself a moment as she peered down on the bounty with astonishment, her chartreuse eyes breaking from them to peer at the woman with a question. How did you achieve such loveliness, she asked, wondering. Mushrooms were not difficult to grow, no, but she had not expected such a crop along the river -- the ground was not right, the environment not quite damp enough. It was too cold, too -- that never helped. She did not think the caves could have produced such a thing -- could they? Surely not; the dry way to the caves was not yet complete, either.

Her gray eyes watched her leader closely as her eyes shot down to peer into the bag. There was a fraction of a second where she worried that for some reason the offering would be unacceptable. No, she couldn’t think like that. This was the mission of her life… or well, at least of the last few weeks… and she had only done so much work because she knew it was what her pack wanted, and needed. She had found out from Odessa that the Dark Lady had swum the expanse of the bay to the island and discovered the mushrooms; it was the mushrooms that she wanted. They were the bounty of the island. Of course, such a place would be useful for many other things, too. It was a fruit ripe for the picking.

Her ears tipped back and then popped up, tail immediately began whipping the air as she watched Eris’s eyes brighten at the sight of the crop. “You like? Ah!” Her smile broadened and she let out a boisterous laugh. “I am so happy! Here, you keep!” She nudged the bag toward Eris to take.

“They are all on island across the bay!” She motioned with her hand as if they were right across the beach from it. “The docks, they are built. The ferry, oh she floats beautifully! I didn’t even get my feet wet. Is cold out there… the sea, her breeze is icy this time of year. But inside… there are great mossy caverns just full of these. I did not even make dent in the crop.”

“It vas time for test voyage with the ferry. Everythingk was done, but I did not want to say it was until I was sure she worked. Oh, the trip was fine. Smooth, easy to coast across the water. Of course could use some improvements, but is good for pack, for now.” Her tail never stopped, doggish gestures abound even though she was in her Optime body. Despite her enthusiasm she knew Eris could only appreciate the sheer beauty of it if she had seen it with her own gemlike eyes. “Do you vhant to see?”

Lol. We can probably end this with the OOC assumption that Liliya and Eris went off to the caves? c:

Eris is by Kiri!

The dark woman collected her bounty with a broad grin splayed across her dark muzzle, tucking the package back together carefully, holding it with the delicacy one might hold a newborn. Thank you, my dearest Liliya, she said, inclining her head toward the other woman to deliver a nuzzle to one of her cheeks, unable to quell the desire to make such a gesture of thanks in the face of such a gift. Her supplies had been so low for so long. While these mushrooms were too powerful to consume on a daily basis, she would not have to scrimp and save to keep herself in good standing any longer.

She turned an eager ear to the tawny woman, listening with mounting excitement. The completion of the docks meant Khirot could live there, readying himself to pull any who wished to cross along the ferry's cable. That the boat was secured by ropes and cables meant they stood little chance of losing the boat in a storm, no matter how great the swell. The dark woman was quite certain the construction of such objects, as overseen by Liliya and assisted by Khirot, would be solid enough to weather Salsola through many years.

Liliya, she said, her voice filled with a strange, gravelly intonation. I would be honored to see your work. Please, let us go, she said. The mushrooms would be safe, stashed along the mainland in a tree. The skies did not threaten rain, and surely no one in Salsola would take such a thing if it smelled clearly of the Auxiliary. She was far too eager to see the caves and their bounty to bother with taking the gift back to her home, much as it meant to her. The hybrid trusted in the safety of her Salsola, as should they all.
