This is a preparation thread for the Envoy and Dai-In classes. Prepare yourself for the hunt my pretties and join this December Prompt! There is no posting order, so jump in when it feels right. But once the hunt starts all those present will be able to participate. Late comers will be asked to guard the catch.

The beginning of this winter was not as lean as one would expect. There was still plenty to hunt and gather, all that were needed were the hands to make it so. The Exultare could not keep her excitement for the coming Hibernal to herself, it was an initiative that needed to be shared to the up and coming of the pack. Since her return the woman had pondered what she could do to demonstrate her efforts to the pack, but it was not enough to slave away on her own. No. To provide for the pack was not to center the efforts around oneself, but enlighten others and encourage them to take an active role was well. The jubilation of the coming event was only a minute part of it when set against the grander scheme of things. Her plan was to give Ichika as a whole a chance to take part… starting with those that had not entirely found their way.

Within the white of the Dahlia Valley, she stood as a golden beacon garbed in only her shoulder of trophies and companion owl seated upon her back. Rarely had she taken the lupus form, but given the task that lied ahead she deemed it appropriate just this once. Her mane had been woven while in Optime form to the loose French braid that kept the wild tresses in check and in this form as well the style held and even withdrew the often obstructing bangs from her eyes. She allowed herself a moment to simply relish in this form til her senses were truly aware of the change and limbs had adjusted to this lighter, less bulking form. It would be a challenge to her as well as others to get used to this body, and what better time to practice than before the grand event.

At last she lifted her slender maw and raised her voice in song for her fellow wolves, calling forth their attention to take part in this betterment of themselves and provide for their home. ‘Come find me warriors... come out of your home and into the fields. Take part in this day you have been blessed to see. Those, whose lives have begun anew within these lands, show yourselves, and take part in helping our family…'

Pale eyes flicked skyward as Indira's ears were pricked with a melodic song beckoning her to Dahlia Valley. Without any hint of hesitation, Indira, already in her quadrupedal lupus form, abandoned her exploration of the Abbey’s borders and launched herself in the direction of the sound. She could identify the source. Indira remembered the warrior woman, X’yrin, who had helped her with her initiation task. She still saw the woman as a slight mystery. She had met a coyote mix, Vesper, who had told her about X’yrin’s nomadic past. She wanted to ask more about the warrior, but the timing had yet to be right. Indira did not want to interrupt something important, so she would wait until the right time.

Indira approached the Exultare wolf with enthusiasm, her ears erect and tail wagging, tongue lolling out of her maw as she arrived at the site of the hunt. Then she flicked her ears back and bobbed her head low in deference of the other wolf’s position in the pack before lifting her muzzle to scent the air, clearing eager to begin and to be of assistance. Although the blue eyed girl did not have many specialized skills to speak of, she was definitely an accomplished huntress and would be able to assist in this task with certainty and pride in her abilities.

The medium gray coywolf could not deny the excitement that mounted inside her as the Hibernal festivities began. Her initiation task had to do with the Hibernal festivities – so in a way, this was like the culmination of her joining process. It was also exciting to think of meeting other new faces and integrating more completely, to become a more ingrained part of Ichika no-Hoen. The pale eyed coywolf waited for others to arrive so that everything could begin.

hey guys! :> girls hunt! wooooo

Sage's body was not used to the four-legged form she used to frequent. Before moving to Inferni, she'd taken on her smaller, more agile form more often. Something about the place had made her feel safer on two legs, something that she had perhaps taken for granted. Still, it was not completely foreign, and she slipped into the form easily beside the fire that decorated the outside of her father's home. All four paws kneaded the earth as she stretched, cream-tipped tail straightening behind her with her wide, black-lipped yawn. A smile settled on her face then as she licked her lips, finding her mouth --not surprisingly-- dry. The lithe, winter-furred fae stood to shake out her soft tawny pelt, freeing the debris that had clung where she sat. Her goal now was water; and soon after, food. Her young teeth were still sharp and white; the girl hadn't done enough of her own hunting in a while, and she needed the practice.

Just as she'd set out, though, an unfamiliar call made her large ears stand erect, understanding that she was invited to join. Excited now at the prospect of meeting more of her new family members, Sage rushed forward, following the scent and the sound. Four paws beat against the ground crushing dead leaves beneath her blackened pads, her tongue lolling in anticipation until her view opened up from the forest into the great Dahlia Valley.

It wasn't long before she came upon a woman her equal and a superior, and Sage slowed her pace, yipping a greeting as she walked up. "Hello, ladies; namaste," she cooed softly with a bow of her head as she waltzed forward to sit properly before the Kozan, beside her fellow. She realized sadly how thirsty she still was; but it would have to wait. "What a lovely day for a hunt; Mother has spoiled us," she said casually with a smile, wide golden eyes staring about at the expansive, dense Valley. It was a splendid sight, even in the winter.

In Character

The Kenpo had been preforming her usual duties, getting back into the swing of things. Noah's return had been awkward, happy, and strange all at once. She however was glad to have her mate back. No matter how much he had changed. Trotting along the path in the crisp morning air she allowed her lupus form to work out the slow kinks here and there. Her leg ached in the morning chilln but eventually warmed up and gave Rendall little troubles for the rest of her journey .

A musical howl called out to her and the other warriors. Unsure of what it was she stopped trotting and listened. The howl called for them to come and be blessed. Relaxing that it wasn't a warning, she began to run off into the direction of the sound. Taking the moment to stretch and limber up her body, Rendall took long strides as she glided over the land to her fellow warriors.

She noticed that she wasn't the first one there, but she wasn't the last and that made her happy enough. She bowed repesctively to X'yrin before turning to the other wolves and grinning happily. She didn't know these two, but she was eager to meet them. She hoped that her bright blue fur didn't scare them off as she approached them. "Hello, I'm Rendall, its a pleasure to meet you both." Stretching her now achy scarred leg, the blue child took a few seconds to walk slowly around and then plump her rump comfily on the ground. She still wasn't sure why the Kozan called them out here, but she was eager for something .

The Nomad was a patient woman by nature, always taking the moment in stride rather than rushing to an end. A trait developed through her rearing up with the Nomad culture. As her song went out then receded as it was carried by the soft winds, she was content to simply wait for reply standing firm upon her fine four legs with owl companion stood atop her back.

Her patience was rewarded soon with the eager faces of her pack mates; a new face with two familiar others to which she nodded and smiled endearingly. As the Kozan stepped forward her companion stumbled on her back then hopped forward to lay claim of his sharp talons into her shoulder for stability. The female rounded her shoulder to this irritancy hoping to shake the lazy bird off… but it was to no avail. He simply hooted softly then struck the back of the female’s head with a swift wing. Her lips quivered rather annoyed by his embarrassing behavior, but opted to think nothing of it and instead offered her attention to the growing hunting party.

“My friends, good day to you,” she woman uttered quietly. Her tail was nothing more than a golden blur as it swung with elation and ever growing excitement. To each attending female, she placed a friendly kiss upon their cheek whilst whining her joy for their presence. “Indeed, it is a fine day for a hunt,” she agreed as her eyes settled upon the hybrid form of the nameless female. The lady might have been new to her, but there was a distinct impression on the Nomad that she had seen one like this female before. A relative of a member, perhaps? Carefully the woman waltzed around the trio of wolves briefly inspecting their physiques just as she had done for Kiara before their hunt together. To better orchestrate this event, she needed to know what each would be suited for not only taking form and size into consideration but also will. The first could be surveyed by sight alone, but the latter took a little more than what resided upon the surface.

Completely her circle the Envoy returned to the head of their gathering remaining standing as opposed to her desire to sit. Damn bird. “Thank you for coming. I know of another that will be joining us, but while we wait, why not an introduction, my friends. I am X’yrin, an Exultare of the Nomads and our pack’s Kozan. I have asked you all to gather so that we may prepare for the coming Hibernal event, as well as help replenish our winter stock. It is truly a blessing to have such able bodies as yourself,” humbly the she-wolf dipped her head in a show of her sincerity. “But please, my friends,” the woman raised her head with soft smile adorned on her lips. “What of yourselves? I don’t believe we have had the pleasure to meet,” carefully her eyes sifted to the lithe form of the unknown she-wolf, offering her silence as cue to take the floor.

Saluce had been busy that morning. He could have kept on working on trying to form some semblance of a working blacksmith shop but her call brought a soft sigh from his lips. X’y had been going on about this the past day or two and he had decided he would go. It wasn’t for him, wasn’t to prove his skill or his worthiness, no, she was full of boundless energy to be social and do pack duties, he’d be there to support her. But it was his limbs that didn’t seem to want to co-operate with him today, the shift to his bulky four legged form was rough, the cold not helping at all. It took him longer than expected to shift, the act fighting him today, but finally the gray behemoth stood in the snow blues looking around before he sat off in her direction.

His form joined the four ladies late, looking over the mix of wolves and coyote hybrids with a judgmental eye. Saluce looked at the yote girl with a curious look, noting her familiar features, and trying to imagine how she would have looked on two legs. She looked familiar, but for now he decided to ignore it and join X’yrin’s side. The behemoth rubbed across the length of her body in a show of attachment to her and then standing beside her, looking expectantly for her direction. He spoke with body language not caring to speak to anyone in such a bestial form, his licks where directed at X’y before silently nodding to the other’s gathered one by one.

sorry for the wait!

Soon after her own arrival, they were joined by yet another girl; a gray wolfess wearing feathers in her hair. Pretty, Sage thought with a smile, nodding a greeting to her. "Hi," she offered with a smile. Their superior had begun to speak now, so the tawny coyote focused her attention forward, planning to introduce herself soon either way. The curve to the lady's black-lined lips only grew at X'yrin's lovely greeting. Though Sage was not keen to be the one doing the killing in a hunt, she was certainly able-bodied, and could at least help herd the animals, if not more.

The event that the Kozan spoke of, though, Sage had no knowledge. Perhaps Father had mentioned it and she'd forgotten, or maybe he'd just never said it at all. Either way, if they were collecting meats for the festivities, the coyote was sure it would be an exciting time.

Her attention was brought back as the cream and russet wolfess addressed herself personally. "X'yrin, lovely to meet you; I'm so glad to be here," she said, bowing her head to the woman as she caught her gaze briefly. "I'm Sage River Lykoi," she introduced, letting her name make the connection to her father. She was, after all, a humble woman. "Oh!" She gasped in surprise; the dark man who had swept into the scene had gone unnoticed by Sage until then. As he greeted the Kozan with a traditional wolf-style greeting, golden eyes stared with interest. Wolfish customs had been lost to her by now, but as she watched him, she was certain that she recognized him. "Hello," she muttered with a smile, growing quickly silent again when it was clear he had no interest. Still, her eyes narrowed curiously for a moment; but in this form, no one was familiar to her.

X'yrin held her tongue and gave each attendee a chance to introduce themselves and become familiar in whatever means they felt comfortable with. Setting the foundations of a social gathering was not at all her forte, however orchestrating a hunt was a task better suited for her. Her mate was scented before he was seen, basked in their combined scents coupled with the rich earth of their den. Her tail lifted happily and waved in greeting as she strode along her side deepening his scent as well in show of his adoration. She whined endearingly, a momentarily falling into private reprieve before snapping back abruptly to the present. Roughly she shook her head hoping the rid the warmth suddenly flooding her muzzle.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Sage,” she acknowledged without missing too great of a cue. “And we are fortunate to have you.” The she-wolf again returned her gaze to the gathered band. “We are fortunate to have you all. Now my friends we face a challenge today and I am confident we can overcome it. Consider this practice for what lies ahead later this season, and a demonstration in working effectively as a team.” Proudly the female lifted her head, “I will lead this hunt today but an efficient kill is not taken by one; it is made through the efforts of all working seamlessly together with what strength we have. Our structure is built as such; Sage, you and Indira will act as our runners. It is your task to cut apart the herd and weed out our prey. Judgment of our prey will be on the both of you. Lead them to where we wait and be resilient. If it escapes then our opportunity is gone and we have failed.”

Her gaze then fell upon Rendall. “My friend, your role is to act where you are needed. If are prey is near escaping assist the others to keep it in line. If Saluce or I need help in taking down our prey, then we trust your fangs to weaken the kill. None of us are to take the kill on our own…” briefly her eyes cast to her mate then again fell upon the awaiting females. “And we do not take more than we can handle. But we will succeed in this hunt. Trust the directions that are given and we will reap the benefits. And we will feast well for our efforts. Is that understood?”

He listened to his mate quietly, letting her give her directions. He would have liked to be the one leading this but it wasn’t his place. It was however his place to support his mate, and when she called he would answer. Saluce sat himself down rump first as he looked over their group, noticing that X’y and him where the two biggest wolf or hybrids here. Her strategy reflected this and he was pleased with it.

He didn’t have much else to add so he just remained silent for the time being. Letting the others mull over the words, while he gave his mate an enthusiastic lick across her maw, not ashamed to show such adoration for her. But his voice did eventually chime in.

“Lets be safe, If you run into trouble don’t push It and call for help,” after all what would the other ranks think of a hunt that ended in several of their so called warriors and such needing medical attention.
