OOC Daylight. Orin's cottage in the Treetop Terrace. Orin in Optime. Back dated to December 6th, if that's ok with you Lullaby? 400+

As nature cleaned up shop Orin began to feel like she should do the same. Just as she did every year, Mother Earth delivered a cleansing winter. Some might not think of the harsh season so positively, but Orin knew that this time was important for the world to cleanse and renew itself. Sure, the weather was quickly becoming cold and would probably soon deliver relentless storms and flurries, but it also was useful in wiping out the old, dead plants that were suffering and deserved to finally be at peace – as well as it did for some animals. Winter was long but when spring finally rolled around it would all be worth it. They would have a fresh, beautiful, verdant land thanks to this purifying season.

And if any right minded wolfess wanted to survive a tight winter she needed a tidy home. Orin wasn't very good at keeping house. She liked strange things and collected trinkets and didn't care where she put them. She didn't have a good eye for sorting things in her treetop cottage like a human might have. The woman had been much better at this when she lived in the book store, because there things were already in a place so it was just a matter of putting them back in their place. Here it all relied on her, so everything’s place was just wherever it happened to be at the time.

Besides all that... keeping busy was a good way to prevent thinking about something that was looming over her. Orin hummed softly to herself as she stared at a shelf, knowing it should be sorted but having no idea how it could be made better. So she started with the first thing she could think to do; pull everything down. Minutes later every trinket that was on the shelf was scattered all over her floor, but far up there on the top shelf she could see a dusty old jar.

“Hmm...” She cocked her head wondering how she would get it, and what was inside. Well, a challenge like this never stopped Orin before! Her fingers grabbed one of the boards and she stepped up, climbing the unit like a ladder until she could see the highest shelf easily. “Ohhh...” she breathed to herself as she spied the pink gel like substance within the cloudy jar. She retrieved the jar and hopped down, rubbing some of the dust from the surface as she stood in the middle of her living room and stared at it.

QUESTIONS she is always full of them.. she is in Optime form and has two rather good drawings of Titania and the border tree in her left hand. Her hairs is also pulled back into a loose pony tail

As her mother had said she was helping clean, her room and the one her sister used to use. She made the beds and was setting up all her arts finding that her paper was running rather low, Juliet fond herself looking at her old drawing instead of cleaning. Her emotionless face looked at the drawing as she spread them out on her bedroom floor, almost covering it so that there was no where to sit but in the circle she made for herself. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at her older drawings, picking up the tree she drew the day her dad help her with the flute.

She moved from the colorless dree to the flowers then to the picture she drew of her sister gazing out of her window in thought. That one she was rather proud of, and she found herself wanting to draw another person. Her mind wandered to all the possibilities and all the subjects she could use to draw pretty pictures. Juliet then drifted to the man she met on a small adventure and how he taught her how to kill birds with a stick and string, her tail wagged lightly as she gathered up her drawing and set them by her bedside next to her drawing utensils.

Taking the tree and the picture of Titania she headed down to where her mother was, forgetting all about her cleaning task. "Mom.. I wanted to show.." Her emotionless voice started before drifting off, her eyes on what her mother was holding. What was that? She tilted her head as she brought herself to her mother's side, the contents were a vibrant pink and she instantly wanted to use it on something. Maybe it was paint, she would use it with painting flowers and well anything she could think of that was the color pink.

Looking at her mother curiously, almost asking without saying a words. "What is it? Is it paint? Can I paint on the walls or maybe on paper with it?" She asked emotionlessly though her eyes showed excitement. Please say yes, her mind begged as she then look in wonder at the clouded jar. Curious if their were more colors.

There was a sound behind her then, the sound of footsteps drawing near, and she turned to meet the sight of her daughter as she entered the family quarter. She saw Juliet’s eager indigo eyes flash to the dusty jar, instantly lighting up when she saw what was inside. A half smile cocked on her face, even as her daughter spoke what should be very excited words in a very monotone way that belied the excitement on her countenance.

“It’s not paint,” she corrected, glancing back at the jar and using her palm to clean it off a little more. If the substance inside were paint it would have been long spoiled, evident by the thick, gooey consistency. “It’s dye. A lot like paint and made from the same type of pigments, but thickened with starch so it’ll cling to fur. It won’t work very well to paint material, it doesn’t dry well and becomes flaky, and washes off easily. If anything you’re left with a faint residue on your medium rather than a bright color.” She held the jar out to her daughter, offering her to take it and take a look at it.

“It’s got to be almost a year old, but that jar is air tight and it still looks pretty good.” Her eyes shifted to it as she remembered fondly how she used to dye her hair. Her daughter wouldn’t remember. She knew Titania and Juliet remembered her in disguise as Desdemona, when she blotted her white pelt with brown, but they would never remember the snowy and pink woman as she had been.

“Are you looking for paint? We might grow thin on it this winter. I can try to make you some pigments out of what we have… the pines that survive the snow can work, and if there are any berries left over from the garden… Maybe some were preserved by the frost? Not so fresh to eat, but good for other things…” she prattled on as she turned around and began sorting out the shelf again, leaving her daughter in the wake of the news that there was a type of paint appropriate for fur.

“So,” she said to the shelf. “What have you got in your hand?”

Paint, she really loved that stuff. It was always full of colors and made her drawings come to life with color; she could paint the walls of her mother’s house. Bring the normal landscape that she had learned to be comfortable with into a masterpiece! Her eyes danced as she thought of the things she could draw on her mother’s walls, as it was above her bed she had already drawn a colorless picture of flowers.

Her eyes dulled slightly when Orin corrected her and told her that the pink stuff in the clouded jar was not paint. Though as always she explained what it was so that she could understand what it was that was in the old jar. Dye, something that can paint fur but not walls or paper. Her mind races as she began to think of questions she could ask the white wolf, things that were useless to ask but out of curiosity. She greedily took that jar when her mother handed it out, just listening as she moved the container this way and that way to see how the dye moved. How thick was this stuff, and did it ever come off?

The girl thought of when she often got paint on her fur, the only thing she really did not mind caking on. It always came off, just a bit of water and some scrubbing and it came right off. So what was the difference with this stuff? Again she moved it around, coating some of the jar with a transparent pink residue. Finally her indigo eyes moved from the curious jar and rested on her mother’s face, ”What do you do with it?” She asked again without any tone in her voice.

”If it’s like paint, can I put it on your hair? I think it would look really pretty on you, mom.” She spoke, her eyes showing her endearment and yet the jealousy she had for her mother. She was so pretty, everything went with her. Even this strange pink stuff would look pretty on her.

She then listened to the new words coming from her mother’s lips, this time about paint. Could she really get her more colors in such a barren landscape, could berries survive through this cold world? If they could why couldn’t her flowers survive, oh how she missed them. ”I am looking for paint, some of my pictures are bare without color.” She stated, looking back at her pictures.

”They are pictures I drew, one is of the border tree and that one is of Titania gazing out the window.” Her eyes sparkled when her pictures came up, handing over the drawings like an even trade for the clouded container. She really hoped her mother would like them; after all she was proud of those two.

OOC Orin is VERY distracted by the picture of Titania. Wink 424

“That's exactly right,” she nodded as her daughter asked her about the exact purpose of the dye. “That one in particular is made for fur. Some dyes dye other things like clothing or furniture, but that was my special recipe for fur. Clings really well and holds for a while, doesn't fade very fast...” Most of her words were echoing from the corner of the bookshelf. “I actually did used to wear it. That's what that one was for. Used to put it in my hair.” She made an absent motion towards her now choppy blond locks. They had grown out a lot since she moved back to d'Arte with the girls, getting much of their length back.

She didn't turn back to Juliet until the conversation turned to Juliet's pictures. She loved her daughter's artwork. She would love it even if it were nothing more than scribbles, but Juliet was actually becoming a talented illustrator quite quickly. With a smile, she stepped down from her perch and took the drawings from Juliet's hand, careful not to crease or wrinkle the paper as she did so.

The picture on top was the drawing of the border tree. Her eyes sparkled with pride as she took in the intricate detail her daughter added to the picture. So much of the actual art that was on the border tree was also here in this drawing. It dazzled her, to say the least, and she wouldn't even have turned to the other drawing had Juliet not told her it was of Titania. Curious to see her daughter's rendition of her sibling, she switched the pictures, tucking the border tree behind the other work and gasping loudly as she did so.

“Juliet! It's... perfect.” She stared at the picture in awe, feeling like any moment it would come to life and that her daughter would come walking right back through the door. She was amazed at the expert lines traced on the paper, how truly accurate of a resemblance it had to Titania. A moment later Orin realized that her eyes had become misty and she had been holding her breath. She let the air out, shaky and slow, her amber eyes finally moving back to Juliet.

“You're a talented artist. I don't know where you get it from,” she was only half joking. After all, she had only been a writer, and Shawchert more of a musician and craftsman than anything. “Can I hang this up right here by the table?”

She felt warmth surge through her when her mother almost praised her for saying the correct use for the pink residue, her tail gave a short lived sway only to fall limp once again. Her eyes moved to the jar but that was not what caught her attention so much, no she just noticed something truly odd to her. She was looking at her mother but she was not looking up at her, no she was looking her in the eyes. Did her mother somehow get shorter? Her gaze moved around the room and she noticed how everything else had been getting shorter too, what was going on here?

Looking into her mother’s yellow eyes she compared her height, analyzing the height of the bookshelf than how tall Orin was. Then she factored in herself, she was maybe an inch taller if not the same height right now. This was just weird, she did not get that she was growing she could only think everything was getting shorter.

Orin’s voice broke her concentration, making the height issue almost go away instantly as she watched her mother’s face light up. The sparkle in her mother’s eyes as she spoke made Juliet feel the warmth of happiness surge back through her body. She liked them, she really liked her drawings. She even called them perfect, well that had to be a stretch. There were paintings that she found that were much better than her scribbles and they were made by the humans.

Again her indigo eyes met amber, watching for every sign that they could give her to her mother’s feelings. The girl’s lips twitched as she looked at her mother’s expression, a slight form of a smile for a fraction of a second. Her mother called her work perfect, showing awe for the one of her sister. Was it really that good? She nodded lightly when she asked to hang the drawing, why not. As it was she was drawing on the walls.

”Can I use it on you?” She asked retorting back to the container, stretching it out to give back to her mother before looking at Orin’s blonde hair. It would look so pretty on her.
