-throws random puppy at-

[html]
Blaise was hurting. The ache in her stomach made moving so painful that she needed to stop every few yards, curl into a tense ball, and wait for it to go away. But, always after she got up and dragged herself forward again, the ache returned, and she did not understand why, and it hurt. She drank many gulps of water from the lake nearby, but that only satisfied the dryness in her throat and did nothing for her belly. Her skin hurt, too; she scratched herself, which worked until she scratched so much that she bled and hurt more. While all of this was happening, she saw her mother in her head. Tears flooded from soft purple eyes as the wolfess ordered her to drink water, then follow the smell of others like them. Blaise had asked her mother why she was crying and saying these things. Her only response was that she must not follow. The child had never heard a command this harsh, but her mother had soothed her with kisses, turned away, and limped slowly into the distance. As Blaise watched her disappear, the warmth of the kisses faded, and again she puzzled over why her mother was leaving. She did not understand that either, and it hurt most of all.

The little gray wolf did as she was told, because good things happened when she did what her mother told her. Although she hurt inside and out, she eagerly followed the scent of her kind. The trail took her along the edge of the glittering lake, until a huge building rose in the distance toward the iron-gray sky. That must be where the wolves lived. Maybe her mother was there, waiting for her. Grinning, the emaciated pup bounded through the snow as if nothing hurt at all.

Hope this is okay with you <3

Life had grown boring again, but this was better than the war had been, so Artemis could not complain much. Her family seemed to have drifted apart in many ways lately, with the after-effects of the war and the cousins that had left with their father to form a new pack, but Artemis was smiling, thinking of her brother's mateship to Giselle. The silver-painted princess did not know the pale girl well, having only ever met her in passing, she seemed nice and Silvano was happy. That was what was important.

Even though she was happy for him, though, Artemis was strangely bothered by his mateship. She frowned, looking down at the snow as she walked over it in her favored four-legged form. Perhaps it was that there was now another thing separating her from her brother. First it had been her fall, and that had distanced her from all of her siblings, and her parents, too. It wasn't intentional; it just happened. Now her brother had a mate and maybe he would start a family, and she was left behind.

But was she behind? Her thoughts turned to the prince of the trees she had come to think of as a friend so fondly, but they were quickly interrupted as she stopped in her steps, blue eyes widening as she spotted the emaciated puppy running right towards her.

of course! Thank you so much for replying. <3

She did not realize how big the building was until she got closer. It was the largest house she had ever seen, and she wanted to know what it looked like inside. It was much better than the wood cabin in which she and her mother slept. Perhaps her mother was trying to surprise her with a nicer place to sleep, like she surprised her with morsels of food and pretty leaves. Blaise did not even consider that, when her mother left her beside the lake, she had walked away in a completely different direction. The idea of a surprise was the only one that made sense to the child.

There was someone here - a wolf, just like her mother said there would be! Blaise began to wag her scraggly tail as she leaped toward the silver woman, thinking she must have already met her mother in the house and was coming to bring her inside. With her tail flailing so violently it made her rump tremble, the girl lowered her ears and crawled before the pale woman, lips turned into a smile. Soft whimpers of joy escaped her as she frantically tried to lick the female's feet.

Soft blue eyes looked down incredulously at the small, roughed-up puppy. No one in the pack that she knew of had young children like this, and the scent was strange, foreign and dark. It was not the smell of her home, certainly, and this puppy did not belong here. It was not a case of a trespasser, though, with a puppy. Young puppies like this (Like I once was, she thought, thinking back to her own antics) did not belong out on their own. Was the puppy lost?

"Hello there," she said with a smile, lowering her face to rest on her paws as her chest pressed into the snow so that her face was level with the little puppy's own. "Are you lost?" she asked, her tone tinged with confusion as the puppy licked her paws.

The young wolf's behavior confused Blaise. Ceasing to rasp her tongue against the large paws, she backed away, her brow furrowed. She thought she would be taken right inside to her mother, yet this woman did not seem like she had expected to come across a young pup. Unable to give up her fantasy just yet, Blaise quickly reasoned that her mother had not met this pretty wolf after all. Her mother was simply waiting for her to come to the house herself, like a big girl.

Pricking her ears, Blaise squeaked, Not lost. Mommy in dat house. She wait for me wiff other woofs! She spoke with unwavering confidence. Her chest heaved with a small, nervous sigh, because she needed ask the stranger to do something for her, and her mother had taught her that she must be very polite when requesting favors from others. You... You pease take me to Mommy? the girl said more softly, peering into gentle blue eyes.

Even if there were young puppies in the pack, this one's scent was far too different for her to be the pup of a Dreamer. Artemis tilted her head momentarily, considering the request. She had no idea who this puppy's mother was and she was certain that whoever she was, she was not a member of the pack, and she couldn't turn this puppy away just because she was confused.

"What's your mommy's name? Let's go inside and we'll get you warmed up, and see if we can find something to eat. Are you hungry?" Artemis stood, looking around her quickly to see if the pup's mother was coming for her. Maybe this girl was like Denali, with a mother who would never come back and she would just grow up in Crimson Dreams. She wouldn't die, though. Artemis wouldn't let a puppy in the pack die, not again.

The silver girl started walking towards the manor with the puppy, already thinking of what she needed to do. Find her mother or Anu; that was all her brain was telling her to do. "My name is Artemis. What's yours?" she asked.

Blaise strained to remember what her mother's name was. She had never called her dam anything but "Mommy," although she understood that this was simply how children addressed their mothers. Everyone had a name. The girl first grasped the concept when her mother told her that her name was "Blaise" and asked her to repeat it back. There was a word for her alone, and that made her feel very special. She liked the idea so much that she had asked what her mother's special word was. That was it. Her name Jolie, the gray pup answered. The slender female stood and looked all around them for something, but Blaise could not tell what it was even as her eyes followed, and she lost interest.

The pain was becoming difficult to ignore again, but it would be all right soon. Not only was the kind wolfess taking her back to her mother, she was going to give them food and relief from the cold. Blaise could not wait to eat and to sleep in the big house. Bloodshot eyes bright and hopeful, the puppy fell into step beside the woman. Yes, hungry, she chimed, saliva collecting on her tongue as she thought of food. She could not remember the last time her mother had brought her something to eat. I Blaise.

Add in a leader needed to the title/description? c:

"Blaise is a cool name," Artemis commented as she led the small dusty-grey puppy to the manor and nudged the door open with her nose, urging the girl to go inside. There was no one by the name of Jolie in Crimson Dreams, but maybe she lived in one of the neighboring packs or something. She doubted anyone would know of her, and Savina or Anu could not go off looking for the girl's mother. Artemis meantlly shook herself; she was not going to go off looking, either. She rarely left the pack lands and was perfectly fine with that. She was safer inside the borders.

Once inside, the silver girl shifted her body, kneeling in front of the fireplace and working at it until sparks burst up before her pale blue eyes. "Okay, if you sit over here, you'll warm up in no time, and I'll see what I can do about finding something for you to eat," came the girl's lightly accented tones. She moved one of the worn pillows from the couch to the floor, along with the lightly-tattered blanket that was draped over the back so that Blaise would have something comfortable to lay on.

Artemis walked to the kitchen, making quick work of opening cabinets and drawers, looking for anything that the pack had stored that she might be able to give to Blaise. The puppy clearly needed food. She paused her search, deciding that she should find her mother or Anu first. Quickly she walked to the foot of the stairs, peering up expectantly. At least one of them had to be up there, she figured. Lifting her head, she let out a short bark of urgency. "Mama? Anu? Could you come down here?"

The Dreamer heard the call, an interesting sound that brought her from her room. She had been resting, seated on her bed with eyes closed lightly. But now her relaxation turned to curiosity, and she moved quickly to the stairs and looked to and fro for the other wolfess that Artemis had looked for. Moving down the stairs, she did so carefully.

Artemis? She questioned, moving to the common room. She looked for the silvery wolfess, but then the scent of another caused her to pause. Seated beside the the fireplace was a pale looking pup with gleaming eyes. Anu moved towards the pup, Hello. She greeted with a smile.

Th-thank you! the disheveled child breathed, beaming. The compliment was overwhelming, for it was the first she had been given by a stranger.

She trembled with impatience as she waited for the door to be opened. When it swung back on its hinges, the puppy was so shocked by the sight beyond it that she flinched and crawled in a daze after her smoky escort. Blaise had yet to see anything so strange and so beautiful. The ceiling was unbelievably high and the decor intricate. There was furniture, a fireplace, and even a tall staircase, but the house spanned far beyond what she could see now.

The glorious Manor did not interest her half as much as did eating and finding her mother. Obediently, she followed right behind Artemis into the room with the fireplace, and though her eyes darted all around, she saw no sign of her mother. She thought her mother might be waiting inside with a hug and a kiss. The girl felt the sting of disappointment, but she was not yet doubtful.

As Artemis sparked a fire and made up a plush bed, the small wolf followed her around, watching everything she did with intense interest. As soon as the soft things were on the floor, Blaise could not resist stretching out upon them. Her eyelids were very heavy, but in all the excitement, she could not even drop her face between her paws.

Her gaze trailed the silver female, hoping she would return with her mother when she had found some food. But the elegant gray woman who came to the room was not her mother at all. Who you? Blaise asked the matron timidly, her ears falling against her skull as she lowered her head. You get Mommy?

Relief flooded the silver Marino when she heard Anu's voice, saw her aging body come into the main room of the manor. If she had not come and Savina had been nowhere to be found, Artemis did not know what she would have done about Blaise. Probably she would have taken care of her until she did find one of the older women, but she would not have known what to do about the questions the girl had about her mother. Artemis had no answers.

"Anu," she said with a small dip of her head. "This is Blaise. She found me outside," she added with a small, almost sad chuckle. "She's looking for her mother, Jolie, and thinks she might be somewhere around here... I was hoping to find her something to eat in the kitchen. Do you know if we have anything for her?" Though she did not know Blaise's exact age, she seemed old enough to be eating solid foods. Artemis had never raised puppies, though, and Anu had, so she expected the older woman might know what would be best for the puppy based on hear apparent age and what puppies her age could even eat.

Anu crouched to the floor slowly, her eyes on the young wolf. She was cold, wet from snow and thin. She felt the urge to frown in sorrow, but instead kept her smile present. It would only make the pup fearful if she gave unfavorable expressions. A peeping voice called out, distracting Anu from her looks and focusing on her story. Of course, a mother.

She said nothing, for the silvery woman appeared and explained the situation. With a quiet observation she took her time to take in the sad news. It was likely that the mother of this child was gone, lost to the early winter cold or simply lost to the work. It pained her heart to think that this was a parentless child, but woes and tears would not help this Blaise.

The cellar; the meat will be tough but it will suffice until Oak returns. Her son would bring them a fresh kill, but it may be hours of even a day before he did. She turned to the pup, kindness in her eyes. She sat slowly beside her, the fire blooming. Her mother was not here, Isn't the fire warm? She asked softly as she settled. Would you like to stay here Blaise? We can look for your mother once you have rested, had something to eat and warmed up a bit.

Her tail thumped the pillows once. Though she looked and sounded nothing like her mother, the timber-furred woman who knelt closer had the same sweet face and gentle warmth in her eyes. Blaise immediately trusted her.

Eagerly, she turned toward the younger female as she reentered the room with neither food nor her mother. The pup again listened for answers. After Artemis had given Blaise's story to the gray lady and learned from her where to get food, Anu sat beside her before the cheerful fire.

Waarm! the girl returned. The fire was already healing her, drying her soaked fur, soothing her flea-bitten skin and warming her right to her bones. She was comforted by the dance of the colorful flames, but the woman's words confused and troubled her still. These wolves were kind to her, and had she not been so disturbed by her mother's absence, she would have been overjoyed by Anu's invitation.

Oh... I stay. But... she began, staring into the deep blue eyes, so puzzled she could barely sort her thoughts into words. Now she understood that her mother was not in the house, and because that was the only circumstance she had imagined, its falsehood baffled her. Mommy tell me I find uhver woofs. She say I not follow her. Cause - cause she surprise me wiff big pretty house. Blaise spoke everything she had reasoned, though her expression was frightened. Pease, we find Mommy! She sick, she sad. The child's large eyes glistened as she remembered of her mother's own tears, her frail figure disappearing into the forest.

At Anu's instruction, the silver girl clomped down the stairs to the basement in her usual ungraceful fashion. It had been frightening to see how sickly the small puppy had looked, and knowing that her body was still frail from the malnourished state her fall had left her in and the way she had not taken care of herself after made her all the more afraid for the puppy. Blaise needed to be taken care of. Soft blue eyes spotted the dried meat and she grabbed a large handful, thinking it would be enough until Anu's son returned.

She entered the main room of the manor again at the end of Blaise's small pleas to find help for her sick, sad mother. Artemis looked to Anu, feeling her throat tighten, hoping that the elder woman would be able to offer a magical solution to help this small girl. She settled on the floor with them, crossing her legs and putting some of the meat down on the blanket with Blaise. She didn't speak, concerned that she might let her sadness for the pup's condition show, and she didn't want to frighten her.

[html]Sorry that it took me so long to reply, since we will all have other threads with Killi I am going to close this up. Smile

The innocence in the young pup pushed Anu towards tears. But, instead she smiled gently. It was important to be strong and comforting. Th young one was upset, worried about her mother and though the two adults knew what likely came of the sickly wolfess there would be no talk of it this night. Instead Anu nodded gratefully at Artemis, their eyes connecting and a silent message passed on in the gaze.

We will rest for now. And stay warm. There was a tinge of motherly authority in her tone. She would have another task for Oak when he returned. The male would get his rest but she would need him to scout of the mother of Blaise. When the sun rises again, we will look.
