Bambi lifted a small rabbit from the basket, using her human-like hands to smooth down its' fur. It was small and white, with beady eyes. This one was particularly less aggressive then the others. Most of them had known better then to bite at her or anything anyways.. They could most likely tell that she was a predator. Something that they should both respect, and fear.

Rabbits were skittish creatures. She had found them quite difficult to collect.. Especially when she wasn't just killing them quickly then feeding. She had to hold them gently, and try to keep their stress level down. She had never noticed how vocal they were before, but now they seemed to be chattering all the time. When they got upset, they would make a gurgling sound. Or some of them would a squeaky sort of sound. The first few times she heard them, she had made a disgusting face- And used all her will to hold back a growl. But now.. She was finding the noises a bit.. Cute. The furry critters had a different kind of affect on her then puppies and other small things did. They were different. They were beginning to grow on her a bit.. "Yeah, like mold." She thought, smirking.

Bambi cuddled the rabbit to her chest, feeling it burrow against her. She had built a total of three cages so far. Each was made out of wood, and tightly woven vines. Building was never really her favorite thing, but she had done a pretty good job. They were a good size, and easily big enough for the rabbits to be able to turn around. She had recently found out a way to tell the difference between the males and females. She turned the cottontail creature over, studying the creature's underside and finding it to be a female. As it started to squirm, she decided to try something. She was just beginning to try different things with the rabbits after spending so much time studying them. She was now starting to see how they responded more to her.

The mute dog held the rabbit with one of her hands, using the other to softly stroke its' belly. The bunny seemed staggered at first, going completely limp in her paw. She did it a few more times, and was almost equally amused when the creature admitted a small purring sound. A smile was brought to the canines lips almost instantly, a warm feeling overcoming her shock. She counted that as a discovery. Not a huge one, but it definitely made her more interested in figuring more things about them.

Hotaru Lives Hotaru TalksHotaru thinks

OOC: This ought to be interesting. Word Count: 346

It was truly an unusual sight, a dog holding a rabbit. Fawkes eyed the pair with interest from his position on the stone house. This was far more interesting than the mouse he had been stalking earlier. Predator and prey, interacting with one another in a calm manner. Fawkes watched the pair for a moment longer before taking off to tell his master what he had found.

Hotaru had been sitting on the boulder outside her house again, working on her new staff. She had decided to make herself a better staff, something that was more complicated and hopefully better looking than her current one. Slowly and carefully, Hotaru removed the bark from the long piece of wood. The sound of wing beats drew her attention away from her work and to her avian companion. After placing the knife in her satchel Hotaru stretched out her padded arm, allowing Fawkes to land comfortably. The red tailed hawk was chattering happily in low speech. It took Hotaru a minute to understand what the bird was saying because he was talking so fast. A rabbit and dog hugging? The blind woman was sure she heard wrong. But Fawkes was insistent on that fact, a dog and a rabbit were hugging. "Fawkes, you do know that is ridiculous right?"

Fawkes was hurt, how could Hotaru not believe him? Finally, the bird decided to "show" his master the dog a rabbits. Fawkes took off again, telling her in low speech to follow. Reluctantly Hotaru stood and placed both her new staff and satchel in the house. Together the pair traveled through the town, Fawkes jumping from house to house screeching to help his blind master along. Hotaru barely used her old staff, the locations of each hazard memorize. Eventually, the pair had made it to where the dog was and Fawkes landed on the middle cage before letting out a final screech.

The rabbits were naturally frightened when the large bird landed on one of the cages. They squeaked, squealed, and seemed to call out for help. If she had been more vocal herself, she probably could have just shouted something to scare it off. Instead, she held up her hand to the bird, making shooing motions. She had dropped the small white rabbit, and it hit the ground running. Nana, who had been napping nearby, ran to Bambi's side. She was obviously no match for the large bird- But despite her small size and old age, she still switched to a protective position, hissing at the bird.

Being much larger then the creature, the dog did not really see it as much of a threat. Sure, they were fast, but the worst thing that had ever happened to her caused by a bird was just being pooped on. It was gross.. "Managed to get it out with a tad bit of scrubbing, though," The diseases that humans had worried about getting from winged critters didn't bother Bambi much.. Mostly because she didn't really know much about them. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

The scent of a nearby wolf drew her attention away from the bird. She sniffed at the air, black nose twitching about. The girl got to her feet, walking in big steeps and scooping up the white rabbit from the ground. She cuddled it close, trying to give it back a sense of security. It trembled slightly, but it was quite obvious that it felt much safer having something to bury her face in. She turned around, resting one hand under the bunny's bum, and the other smoothing down the fur on her back. Azure coloured orbs studied the female, watching for a reaction as her feline companion spoke for her. Hello. Is this yours? This.. Bird.

Fawkes stared at the fleeing rabbit with interest, but decided that there was no point in chasing it. The large bird's head swiveled back and cocked to stare down at the rabbit by the dogs side. If birds could smile, Fawkes would have been grinning from ear to ear. He found the strange relationship funny and wished that Hotaru could see this as well. He started to describe what he saw to Hotaru, mostly gloating that he was right. There was, in fact, a dog and a wolf hugging.

The blind woman stood off aways from the rabbit cages. She was wary about getting too close for fear of knocking one of the cages over. Hotaru sniffed the air, bringing in the soft scent of rabbit and dog. Her reddish ears swiveled until the stranger spoke. The dog's soft voice was gentle and sweet, and quite pleasing to the ears. Hotaru's own were faced forward and catching the stranger's every word. Although many might have found it difficult to hear the dog, Hotaru found it rather relaxing. Her ultra sensitive ears were easily overwhelmed making certain situations very difficult. The grey wolf could even ear the frightened squeaks of the rabbits.

"I'm sorry if hes frightened your...pets. It's just that he wanted to 'show' them to me. I assure you Fakwes won't harm them." Hotaru lifted her protected arm up, signaling to the bird to return to her. Reluctantly, Fawkes flew off the cages and over to his master. Fawkes gave the rabbit and dog a wide berth recognizing that he might spook the rabbit to death if he got too close. He landed expertly, requiring only a few flaps to steady himself. Carefully, Fawkes turned around to stare at the stranger. "My name is Hotaru, what's your?"

The cotton-tails calmed down soon after seeing the bird fly off. Bambi returned to her spot on the grass, opening the white rabbit's cage and placing her within it. At first she seemed a little low about having her attention and grooming come to an abrupt end, but soon settled down within her cage.

It was now safe to turn her focus back to the canine and hawk that had recently approached. She looked over the female, now having time to study her. She was beautiful. In all of her time, she had never seen an unattractive canine. But this females' stunningness was most notable then most. The woman had deep, brown eyes. Her hair was not overly styled- Which gave her some what of a feral look. She had splashed of differing shades of browns and greys coating her body. Upon meeting the girl's orbs with her own, she found that there seemed to be something.. Wrong, with them. The wolf was not looking at her- But through her. After studying her eyes for a few more minutes, she realized what the problem was. She's blind.

She had never dealt with a sightless wolf. In her camp, blindness would be seen as a weakness. Therefore one who couldn't see would be seen as useless- And most likely killed as soon as the signs of it would appear. But this female did not seem weak. Her muscles were nicely defined, which was one of the clearest signs of strength. Unlike she was raised, Bambi chose not to discriminate. She barely heard as Nana began speaking for her, picking up only the end of statement.

I'm Nana. And this, is..-

Bambi. The canine interrupted. Usually, she wouldn't have said anything. But she did not find it fair if she didn't speak when the wolf didn't have appearances to go off of. "Plus.. I'll probably be able to get away quite easier if she won't be able to find me," Nana looked genuinely surprised upon being interrupted by the girl. Yes.. Bambi. The aussie gazed down at her feline mother, following her line of sight and seeing that her eyes were still trained on the predatory bird. "I don't blame her."

They are not pets, Bambi stated softly. Test subjects. Will learn about them. She said. She wasn't sure why she felt the need to clear that up. Touch? You can see with your hands.. If you want.

Fawkes spent most of his time starring at the dog and rabbit. Not once did the hawk look at the feline who was obviously interested in him. Fawkes never did fear cats. He was a fairly large bird and his talons were as sharp as knives. Although cats were skilled predators, as the bird dubbed 'the wolf of the sky,' Fawkes saw cats as boorish creatures who posed little threat to him. The only thing Fawkes could credit cats on was their ability to speak fluent high speech. There were times when Fawkes wished he could speak with such ease in the wolf's language, but this ability was beyond him. The red tailed hawk would just have to settle with his broken high speech and avian low speech.

The sudden interruption of what Hotaru had first believed to be the dog's voice startled the blind woman. She had not noticed that there was in fact, two individuals standing before her. Hotaru turned to Fawkes and whispered to the bird, "How many canines are here?"

"One"The bird replied, before turning to groom his breast feathers.

"Who is the other then?"

"Dog"

Now Hotaru was getting frustrated and confused. "The who was the first?"

"Cat." Finally some sense. So the one Hotaru thought was the dog that Fawkes was so adamant about, was in fact a cat. Which meant that Nana was the cat and Bambi was the dog. The grey wolf returned her attention to Bambi and Nana saying in a polite voice, "Sorry about that. Just needed to clear some things up with this bird brain. It's nice to meet you Bambi, Nana." As a polite gesture, Hotaru inclined her head a little.

Bambi's description of the rabbit intrigued Hotaru. Test subjects rather than pets. So the dog was a scientist. Hotaru always had a deep rooted respect for those who strived to learn and science was the very definition of learning. Bambi now had Hotaru's utmost respect, especially because the dog was willing to share her experience with Hotaru.. The blind wolf was a little hesitant to approach Bambi, her paranoia getting the better of her. But finally Hotaru broke down her walls and slowly approached the dog and cat saying "I would love to touch them. But, are you sure? I don't want to frighten your test subjects to death."

Bambi couldn't help but release a soft giggle upon hearing the conversation amongst the two strangers. It was a funny thing to see happen to some one else.. But had Nana been acting as vague as that, the dog would have most likely found it rather irritating. She felt a bit bad thinking about how difficult it must be for the wolf not to be able to see the world around her. "How would she hunt? Ever watch over puppies?" She wouldn't. The answer seemed to simple.. So basic, that it circled around impossible. It couldn't be true that any blind wolf never reproduced.. "Could it?"

Now that she had time to view the hawk from a less threatened point of view- She was finally allowed to take in how beautiful it was. It was a strong bird, perching on top of Hotaru's shoulder proudly. They had a certain respect for each other; that was for sure. The feathered critter retreated quite fast when called upon, but was not scolded for its curiosity. The respect the two shared seemed to be similar to the kind her and her own companion shared.

The canine seemed hesitant to accept Bambi's offer at first. Her expression was as easy to read as every other wolf. The aussie had learned to pick up most things within the face of creatures that most had always overlooked. It made her feel as if she had an advantage- Which she some times needed in order to persuade them with as little words as possible. As long as it's only halfway, be fine. She said quietly teasingly, giving a soft laugh.

Sit, Hotaru? She did not bother to gesture to the space in front of her as she normally would have. Bambi opened the cage to Firefly, the white rabbit. While the snow coloured rabbit was most likely the furthest startled by the landing of Fakwes- She also tended to have one of the highest tolerances. She slipped her paws under the creature, pulling her from the cage. Slowly, she offered out the bunny to the blind canine- Trying her best not to startle her.

The girls giggles were soft and quite, much like her speech. She didn't seem to talk much either. All and all their meeting was strange. A blind wolf and an almost mute dog. Hotaru shook her head a little at the oddness of the situation as she gingerly stepped forward. There were many times that the blind woman felt put off by her own situation. She was still getting used to traveling through the dark and new places put her in a particularly difficult position.

Again, more giggles. It seemed as if the she dog quite liked Hotaru, her gay disposition affecting the wolf. Hotaru gratefully sat down and let out a small smile. "Don't mind if I do." Hotaru listened intently as Bambi went over to the cadges and removed a rabbit for their confines. Hotaru whispered to Fawkes in low speech, telling him to find another perch. If both the wolf and hawk were around surely the rabbits would die of fright.

"Hotaru hug rabbit?" Fawkes was not too put off at being asked to leave. It would be worth it to see if Hotaru would hug the rabbit too. How funny it would be to see a wolf hug a rabbit. It would be funnier that seeing the dog that's for sure. "Yeah, I'm going to hug the rabbit." Fawkes flew off with a happy chip. He returned to the roof of the house and watched excitedly as Bambi placed a white rabbit into his master's hands.

Hotaru fumbled with the rabbit a little, trying her best to hold it in the dark. She brought the rabbit close to her, its small body shaking against her breast. "What do I do now?" Hotaru was not so much panicked as inquisitive. She had never held a rabbit that was alive and was unsure as how to proceed with it. The sensation was strange to say the least. The rabbits warm body and fast paced heart were all new sensations to the blind woman. A smile, a true smile, cracked at the edges of Hotaru's lips. How strange.
