Swentzle had left Ichika shortly after joining, leaving behind Fovea and Citlali to care for his injured patient. He'd taken the time first to carve the end of a long walking stick into a sort of crutch, so that, should the man absolutely need to, he could get around; but he'd left Irinei close to the fire, and Fovea already knew that she had to hunt for the camp whether Swentzle was there or not, so he should be fine for the few days that Swentzle would take. Hamza, of course, was escorting him on this journey, sans wagon; he was simply loaded down with bags, as he was used to, though the bags were empty, mostly. There were one or two chock full of the dried meat Antiman had given him, and a few skinned corpses of rabbits or other small game. He'd forgone his spice powder, though he had plenty of kindling, as he didn't think he'd be able to gather any while he was away.

The purpose of this mission was simple; travel to Halifax, and discern the purpose of Fovea's previous journeys there. It was high noon now, and they'd finally gotten into the city, having to navigate through wreckage and rubble the likes of which Swentzle was certain he'd never navigated before. There was a building not far off to his right which caught his attention, and Swentzle squinted at the blurry outline, patting Hamza and murmuring a quiet, "Manete, Hamza."

He moved silently toward the building, peering into the broken window at the darkness within. It seemed to be some sort of shop, though of what he couldn't be sure; leaning back out to stare up at the faded paint above the door, he could faintly make out, King's Pawn. Curious now more than worried, he stepped carefully over the broken glass and through the window, browsing through the Pawn shop's interior. They had everything here, from jewelry to musical instruments, and he paused as he passed the instruments most familiar to him. The light coming in from the broken window shone on a wooden flute, and he lifted it curiously in two fingers, positioning it against his mouth curiously. But no; the mouthpiece was not quite carved in the right way--fit for the mysterious human, perhaps, but not for a Luperci. With a sigh, he set it down again, and continued, his curiosity growing with each strange new object he found.

She had only been able to handle living in Ichika for so long; the girl had left the place behind once and for all, with Tawny's urging. She'd branched out a lot since her days there, learning how to socialize and interact with others...though she was far from perfect. Much of her self-improvement was due to the earthen female that she had taken to traveling with; her friend was slowly teaching her the ways of the world, standing next to her as she experienced all sorts of things that she had never experienced before. Ichika only held bad memories for her now, the place where her adopted father had abandoned her...the pack where she'd been attacked twice and where she'd taken the life of another creature. It was best for her psychological health that she stay clear of that place.

She was still working on finding a gift for Tawny that would be suitable; she kept coming across things but nothing seemed good enough to her. It had to be a valuable item of good quality...something the other female would like. She'd thought of jewelry, but didn't think that Tawny would like what she'd been able to get so far. If only she could find something that was not only decorative, but useful as well. That would work splendidly. Perhaps a necklace that could double as some sort of a weapon..

A building had caught the female's attention a half hour or so earlier, and she was spending some time going through the many items that adorned the shelves and tables. It had been quite a find, this place...she was almost certain that she would find something of use here. She wanted to give Tawny something really spectacular. The girl was so busy rummaging through the back room of the place that she hadn't heard another enter; the hybrid stopped in her tracks at the sound of footsteps, staring through the dimly lit room toward the doorway that separated the two sections of the shop. She held completely still for a moment before moving backward into a rack of coats, slipping between the musty items and peering out at the stranger.

I may have just been imagining the note asking, I was sort of out of it earlier, but it's perfectly fine if we forward-date it a couple days! Big Grin

Swentzle moved about the dark room rather noisily, as there were many things on the floor of the old shop that he simply couldn't see. He did his best not to fall flat on his face, though, and rummaged curiously before coming up with what seemed to be a wind chime--a rather noisy one, at that. What had caught his attention, though, was the odd figure hanging between the metal tubes. Kokopelli! He exclaimed happily, and shifted the thing curiously, finding that the whole structure was attached to string, which had been threaded through a wooden block to come together on a ring. He supposed it was meant to hang somewhere; what the Earth God was doing this far north, though, he had absolutely no clue. Setting the structure aside in the beginnings of a pile he would take home, he moved further into the shop, stepping carefully around a counter and moving toward the back room.

There were even more oddities here, though he supposed one might have considered them somewhat more valuable. He knelt to peer into a glass case, choosing to ignore the broken top, and squinted slightly; it was much darker back here than it was in the front. He supposed he'd have to bring some sort of light with him...

It was then he noticed the lingering smell of a wolf hybrid in the area, and he blinked, lifting his head and looking around blindly. He didn't see anyone immediately apparent, but good sense told him they were probably somewhere nearby--hopefully close enough to hear him. In case I am not in here alone, He said, because there had been times in the last few months when he couldn't quite trust his nose, I didn't mean to intrude...I wasn't aware there was anyone here. And then he straightened, brushing the dust off his knees and taking another look around the room--albeit his eyes were half-closed from squinting, as he could hardly make out his hand in front of his face.

"You will find that life's a climb that takes a steady grip,
and when you're fingers ache remember you were born for this".

Oops! It must have disappeared when I fixed my table :O Yay ^^

Her heart beat noisily in her chest as she watched the other canine from her hiding spot. She didn't know what his intentions were in this shop; it was a wonder that they had both found the same shop at the same time. Wretch very rarely ran into strangers during her trips into the city. After Caspa's warning the last time she'd come across someone, she was especially wary. The young female gave a small squeak when he turned his head in her direction, disappearing back into the rack a bit more. She held her hand below her jaw to keep her teeth from chattering out of fear; she had been attacked several times in the past, and didn't want to take any chances now.

A voice came next from an area very close to her hiding spot and she tried to slow her breathing, listening carefully. He hadn't meant to intrude? Perhaps his kind words were being said to lure her out of her hiding place, as a trick. She thought this over and peeked back out for a moment. He didn't look too dangerous...but one could never know. She was small for a wolf, her mixed blood making her look more coyote than anything else. Wretch swallowed hard. She wanted to look for an escape route..but couldn't from inside the rack of coats. If she came out and spoke to him, she'd have a chance to better case the place. She stepped out slowly, ears and tail drooping. "I..I did..I disturbed you. I'm sorry."

Swentzle hovered for a long moment, suspended in uncertainty, before there was the sound of movement. He turned his head slightly and squinted as the hybrid stepped out, tilting his head to get the best look at her. She seemed small, for a wolf, but then so was he; standing at only 5'4", Swentzle had grown quite used to people towering over him. It was nice to see someone who was around the same size. He offered her a quiet smile, and then frowned as she spoke, before pointing out, "If I am not mistaken, you were here first...if anything I am disturbing you. There is no need to apologize."

She seemed unusually uneasy, and he wondered for a moment if he was that frightening, or if she'd simply had bad past experiences. Scratching his throat for a moment thoughtfully, he offered, somewhat cautiously, "If you like, I can go." He didn't want to disturb her, as it seemed his presence was doing, and though the shop here was interesting, there were surely other places just as curious that he could peruse.

Wretch is both funny and sad to me at the same time XD And chock-full of awkward Big Grin

At first, the girl wanted nothing more than for him to do exactly what he had offered-leave. She would do much better looking alone, and hadn't wanted any company during her search for the perfect present. Being around others made her so...frightened. That was the feeling that she identified, deep down beneath the anxiety and stress of it all. She was afraid of looking like a fool in front of someone, even a canine that she barely knew. And on top of that, she'd been attacked several times by strangers in the past few months and mock-attacked by another canine in Halifax just weeks before.

However, Wretch realized quite suddenly that leaving was the opposite of what she wished for him to do. She felt terrible for having interrupted his search, though he denied that she had done so, and didn't want to force him to leave the place because of her own discomfort. He should be allowed to look there as well, as this was neutral territory. No, Um...Stay. She fought the urge to apologize again, allowing her aqua eyes to rise from the floor for a moment. Now that she wasn't in hiding any longer, she could see him more fully. He wasn't much larger than her, up close! W-who are you? Are you from around here?

Swentzle offered another smile as she told him to stay, and returned his gaze to the shelf he'd been examining before, as he felt that perhaps she wouldn't feel so uneasy if his attention wasn't completely on her. She asked after his origins, and he answered as he pulled an odd device which seemed to be ticking out of a box, "Ah, no, sadly not. My name is Swentzle. I come from the south--we called them the Great Plains." He said, and held the ticking thing to his ear, as he couldn't quite see it properly. There was definitely something going on inside the pocket watch--though he didn't know that was what it was called--and he dropped the smooth pendulum into his other hand, turning it over curiously to explore with his fingers.

"What about you, miss? There is a somewhat familiar scent on your fur, but it is quite faded...are you from these parts?" He asked as he turned and slowly, carefully padded his way back into the other room, to examine the odd thing in the light. Upon closer inspection, it appeared to have some sort of clasp, and seemed much older than he'd originally thought; delicate, almost. With the light glinting off the metal into his eyes, he very nearly blinded himself completely, and he lowered it back to his hand, turning back to where he thought she was and holding it out by the chain. "What do you suppose this is supposed to do?" He was quite unfamiliar with human relics, and honestly this one completely stumped him.

"You will find that life's a climb that takes a steady grip,
and when you're fingers ache remember you were born for this".

Aww ^^

She had troubles remembering much of her puppyhood, everything from before the accident that she'd had. Saul had found her broken body on the beaches of Dahlia de Mai and had taken care of her for her entire life up to this point. Wretch was just learning how to go out on her own and look after herself, with the help of Tawny. Things were slow...but they were moving forward. She had chosen to leave the pack and become a loner so that she could learn more independence and be forced to go out and experience all the things she had missed out on during her broken puphood.

Hello, Swentzle. I have never heard a name like yours before. I'm Wretch She'd also never heard of the "Great Plains", either. She'd only ever lived in this area. I'm not from anywhere, any more. Wretch replied simply, reaching up to grasp a glass on a nearby shelf. She examined the glass before putting it back up on the shelf and looking sideways at the male. I left my pack. You aren't a member of one either..then?

The object that he had in his hand looked to be some sort of necklace, to her. She knew jewelry well enough. But the part that hung off of the chain was unlike anything she'd seen in the past. It looks like a necklace...but different. The girl said, padding closer to the other. She nearly bumped into him, tripping over her feet as she came closer. Oof--sorry She said, wincing. Maybe...squeeze it? I have seen necklaces that open up
