OOC: Eris and Salvia, late afternoon.

The days seemed to melt into each other now that she'd taken to traveling more. Wretch had spoken with Tawny a few days prior about leaving Ichika no Ho-en behind for good, but she still struggled with the decision. The longer she spent away from the pack, the more numb she became to the idea of ever going back. She didn't want to face Nayru or any of the other members and try to explain her reasons for leaving in the first place...and she felt much happier being on her own. It saddened her to think that Saul might return someday and find her gone, but hopefully if he did return he would come to seek her out. He wasn't the entire reason for her departure, of course, but that had been a factor. He and Gideon had simply disappeared one day and she'd not seen either of them since. It had been over a month, now.

The thin girl padded along the rocky shoreline staring at shapes off in the distance. Something looked to be extending out toward the ocean, a rock formation of sorts, and she wanted to investigate it more thoroughly. There looked to be some sort of building or structure next to it, perhaps an area where humans had been able to rent boats in the past. A place like that may not have been raided yet, and she clung onto that hope as she hastened toward it. Wretch had been looking for a present for her traveling partner for a few days now, and maybe this place would have something special. Tawny had given her many items already, including the types of jewelry that was favored by the D'Angelo girl...and she wanted to repay her. Wretch was also in need of some sort of clothing, as the nights were beginning to get colder and colder...maybe she'd get lucky and find something useful in the seaside shop. She adjusted the pack on her shoulders, coughing a bit as she got to the shop and reached for the broken door handle.

Eris is by Kiri!

The open plains of the bay were becoming steadily yellow, losing their summer's greenery. The salty marshes were rarely verdant green, true enough, but they were losing whatever vigor they had in summer, clearly enough. They would have to harvest more of this switchgrass for their horses. Eris thought she might like a horse, but the dark woman hadn't the faintest idea how to care for them. Larkspur might help her, true enough, and Sirius, too, but the dark-furred woman did not like asking for help where such basics were concerned. She did not like appearing useless.

The shore had her attention now, and she traveled east from Salsola after crossing the river. The rocky shores were a favored place for Eris to visit. The ocean did not hold the same sway over her as it did her mother, but there was appreciation for the water within Eris nonetheless. A jetti darted out into the baywater, and the dark hybrid paused to peer at it curiously, wondering why she had never noticed it before. It might be submerged during the high tides -- this was one reason she might have missed its presence before.

As the dark hybrid approached, she saw the low-slung building on the shore, raised up above the tidelines by its docking. The building seemed in remarkably good shape -- its construction did not seem to have suffered much from the years, at least. More curiosity tingled within her, and the dark woman moved toward the building purposefully now, thinking her tingle of intuition was far, far more than simple curiosity. As the woman drew nearer, the wind brought a scent that blindsided her, causing her to freeze midstep.

She stood at the rear of the building a moment before moving to round its corner, pricking her ears to the hacking sound of a cough. Wretch? she yelped, pausing before completely rounding the building's corner. She was afraid of walking into a ghost. The dark hybrid had received no solatium for Wretch's disappearance, and she knew, if the girl was alive rather than dead, she would walk around that corner and see a stranger. More injury was poised above her, then. She sensed it with the same prickling tingle she had upon seeing that rock jetti and this house.

While she did not often hunt outside of Salsola’s territory, Salvia had been instructed in the ways of the old world. So when her prey fled, she followed. It had been a long chase, and one that she had recognized as futile when the elk had made it past the marshland. She would not follow it close to Inferni’s territory—if the two coyotes she had run off found her so far from home it would come down to her speed versus their own. Salvia was wise enough to avoid confrontation unless there was a need for it, and defending her home (and her own honor) was reason enough. Still, the elk was not a huge loss. She did not always catch things, and more often than not failed. It was the fact she succeeded more than the others that had given her the right to be called a hunter.

So she trotted back along the grassy bay, her pelt blending almost seamlessly with the now fading switchgrass. It had lightened dramatically for the winter, and she was pleased with this. During the summer she was a much darker brown, and while useful, she preferred this shade to her pelt. Perhaps it would stay—this was, after all, her first winter as an adult and who knew what could happen.

The girl was not far from home when she spotted a dark shape moving against the wind. She slowed her pace. It did not take long for the wind to turn, and with it, bring the scent of her mother…as well as a whispering echo of her cry and an equally familiar scent that made her blood boil. Salvia bristled, hair along her spine rising, and quickened her pace, though she was still several yards away and camouflaged by the tall grass.

OOC: WC: 641 eee :3 <33 She hasn't seen Salvia yet.

There was one idea that really frightened the girl: what if things didn’t work out between her and Tawny? She had no desire to go back to Ichika, but what could she do without her? She had been attacked numerous times outside of Ichika no Ho-en’s borders and had nearly been attacked once more when she’d ventured into Halifax alone…it would just keep happening again and again if she didn’t stay around the darker female. Wretch was nothing alone. She was determined to keep the other female around for that purpose only, if need be. She’d give Tawny whatever she wanted in return for the protection that she could offer. Wretch was really liking this free life…being able to go wherever she wanted, whenever she wanted. Especially after her very sheltered puppyhood…She didn’t want her adventuring days to end prematurely.

She liked being able to wander a bit. Wretch had never left Ichika in her youth; she had been injured and alone for most of her puppyhood. Her first injuries had taken a very long time to heal and the bone had set incorrectly, which had given her what would have become a permanent limp. Luckily, though, the second attack had fixed that problem for her. The weak bone had snapped in the same spot again and this time Saul had gotten to her soon enough to set it correctly. By that time the male had a lot more experience with medicine as well, which had helped him set it better.

Wretch appreciated everything that Saul had done for her while he had been there. She’d taken off after the most recent attack out of fear and confusion…and had come back to find him gone. She should have known not to expect him to stick around after she had left, but she’d hoped to come home and at least say her goodbyes to the canine that had raised her for the better part of her life. Instead, she’d gathered up a few more of her belongings and had headed back out. She still went into Ichika on occasion and the smell would likely still cling faintly to her pelt…but she didn’t necessarily live there much any longer.
There was something about this dead, sepia backdrop that had called to her as she’d traveled along without her dark friend. She had parted ways with the girl so that she could find her a nice gift, but hadn’t settled on any real direction when she had started walking. These lands were simply beautiful to her eyes, though, despite their lack of greenery. For days, she would sit in front of the window in her room, staring out at the green park…but she had not seen such beauty until now, when she was actually able to experience it.

She gave one last sweeping glance over the landscape before turning back to the task at hand, opening up the door. As she wrapped her fingers around the handle and tugged on it, the thing began to strain and creak. It then snapped off completely with a loud cracking sound, leaving her with half of the complete handle in her hands. She had a puzzled expression on her muzzle when a sharp voice came from the side of her. Oceanic eyes turned toward a sight that startled her more than anything else could. A canine stood in the grasses around the house, staring up at her. Something about the other seemed familiar to her…the shape of her face? The color of those eyes? She had a look about her that was not completely wolf, but something more. Mixed, much the same as Wretch. The stranger knew her name, something that puzzled her, and she replied quietly with a question of her own. Yes…But who are you?

Eris is by me!

Many things had been stripped from the dark woman in life. She had lost her material possessions in Eterne, along with that false pedestal she'd been stood upon like some symbol of salvation for the Kimaris family. The dark-hued woman knew loss, oh, she did -- but what were these things when compared with the loss of a child? She should have expected it, knowing not all children survive to adulthood. Not all of her half-brothers and half-sisters had, after all -- Kaena's elder children had died in droves, it seemed, and her own Andrezej litter-brother had been cut down at such a young age.

Expect it she did not, and prepare for it -- how does one prepare for the loss of a child? One cannot prepare for the unthinkable -- parents were supposed to outlive their children, and yet Eris had suffered through the loss of three of them. Wretch, Shibboleth, and Solanaceae. Solanaceae had been cut down in healthful youth by a feline. Perhaps Shibboleth was too ill from birth to be considered truly and wholly alive, but... well, Eris had considered her living. Eris had brought a breathing body into this world, and she had sent it out in a puff of smoke and a burst of flame. Wretch had been stolen in youth, and part of Eris had truly believed her dead. Why would the pale girl not return, if she were alive? In founding Salsola, the dark-hued woman considered her pale daughter might return to Anathema and look for her parents. Whether Anathema would send the youth on to Salsola was another question entirely.

The expanse of sparsely-forested marsh, with its dying tall grasses, seemed utterly barren to the dark-furred woman. Eris did not scent Salvia with the wind's direction, nor did she hear the huntress's approach, so skillful was her daughter at these arts of silence and stealth. Even if the Auxiliary had been fully aware of her surroundings, it was unlikely she would have realized Salvia's presence anyway. Eris was not particularly adept at the wild world, and her skills of tracking, hunting, scenting, and all relevant ones were far below her beautiful blonde daughter's. She was thankful Salsola remained unaware of her shortcomings, for the dark-hued woman had spent long nights wondering whether they would follow one perceived as useless.

Then again, she was not entirely useless. Charisma was a skill and talent as any other, gifted to some and withheld entirely from others. One could not look upon fearsome Janos or gruff Miqui and say either possessed any charismatic sway. Eris, on the other hand, had a way with words, and, of course, far more importantly -- she had her ways with the spirit world and the realms of magic and power. Salvia might be huntress extraordinaire, but her spirit was dim and dark, blinded to this otherworld the dark-hued coyote sensed even without her entheogens. Eris, unlike her daughter Salvia, practically vibrated with the power contained within her. Her own aura would be bright and as brilliant yellow-green as her eyes, perhaps even the same color.

The pale coyote she saw before her had no such aura, but the coyote woman knew it was there, all the same. Her own aura was visible only with the aid of those eye-opening substances, the things she put into her body to better connect her with the spiritual otherworld. It was likely the same with this one. Few were powerful enough to show her their true strength without such chemicals to aid her visions, though Eris supposed there were those out there who had better natural sight than she. After all, there were varying degrees of everything -- why should she be surprised to discover power greater than her own?

She had feared such in Siv upon first meeting the silver-tinged woman, but Eris did not now know what to make of the dark stranger. Eris had accepted the woman to Salsola for her apparent power and skill, and she had not regretted it yet. Still, something of a quiet alarm rang in Eris at every thought of the pack's new Associate and her strange, mute daughter, whom Eris had not seen since accepting the pair into the pack and taking on their gift. The creature had provided a meal for Eris, and she'd ordered Molcaxitl to preserve some of the meat with her salts and smokes for the pack's storage purposes. It had served Eris personally and Salsola as a whole; why should the dark-furred woman scorn a gift of practicality in favor of shiny trinkets?

Wretch spoke, the womanly voice of a stranger, and Eris's face fell. Her ears flickered back and her eyes widened in surprise. Though the dark woman willed herself to stay in place, she took a few halting, hesitant steps toward the pale girl, the frown written plainly across her muzzle. How was it that Wretch did not remember her? What cruel ploy was this? The dark-furred coyote seemed to sway in place a moment, her chartreuse eyes regarding the pale woman with shock and suspicion. There was no doubt this was her Wretch, adult or not -- the dark-hued woman would never have forgotten that scent nor mistake anyone else's for it, having spent so many close weeks underground with Wretch.

How is it you scorn your own mother so? the coyote asked, her voice dulled and flattened. Where any but family would have received a scathing demand, the coyote could not hide her hurt here and now, not before the daughter who had been lost so long she'd forgotten the faces of her family. Or perhaps, it was not forgetfulness, but willfulness which had driven the memory of Eris's countenance from Wretch's mind. The coyote dared hope not, though she remained balanced on a precise and razor edge, awaiting whatever disbelief or further scorn was to befall her. Though the dark woman thought Salvia did not respect her as the girl might have in youth, at least her green-eyed daughter gave Eris the public face of respect she deserved. At least now, no one was around to see Wretch insult her so.

(221) Y U NO POKE ME ;-;

The whisper of voices trailed over the grass. Salvia’s pace slowed momentarily, her posture defiant yet. She wanted nothing more than to cast out her sister and end this charade; it was not fair to her to continue. Wretch had made her point clear to Pandemic, and Salvia had almost struck her down and ended this madness before it touched the others. Now, though, her mother had made it to her—now the standard life she had been living was in jeopardy. Her shoulders tensed as she remained like a statue, blending perfectly into the tall grass around her.

Then her mother’s voice rose, sounding peculiar. The sudden instinctual drive to protect this woman—her leader, her birth-giver—rose to a crescendo. Salvia rushed forward, her lupus body lean and almost coyote-like in its movement. The wolfish girth of her father’s bloodline spoke of her only as a wolf, though. A dead man burned through green eyes, a shade truer than those of her mother. Salvia showed her teeth, ears high and tail even with her spine. She positioned herself with her back to the dark coyote, facing the pale thing that had once been family.

“She doesn’t remember us,” the tiger hissed, the dark fur along her hackles bristling. Even after what she had done, Wretch had not remembered her.

OOC: Sorry, Mel D: I was on absence and have been very busy with school <3 <3 I honestly don't mind how long this thread takes, as long as you guys are OK with that too ^^. And Dude - Eris should give her some kind of drug that will help her remember her past >_> if that...would make sense. She might be able to open her mind/relax enough to remember some things.

Loner life seemed to suit her, for now. The girl had a thirst for exploration that would not be quenched for several months, at the least. She had places to go and canines to meet. She'd gone to Salsola seeking out Pandemic once and had met with Naniko at the Anathema borders more recently. She wasn't sure why she'd felt the urge to go to her distant cousin when it came to learning about her roots...but something had drawn her there. The female had not recognized her in the beginning, but when she'd given her the family name and her own first name, things had become more clear. She had been born there in that pack after its founding, to a couple known as Eris and Larkspur. After a while, though, the couple had left to go to the new Salsola pack. Naniko hadn't known much beyond that.

The older female before her seemed confused by her answer. She didn't know what to say to her, unsure of why her own reply had been unsatisfactory, until the woman spoke once more. Her mother? She had a mother, but that canine was unknown to her. She didn't expect to see her, as she'd been told that the lady lived in Salsola. When she'd tried to visit, the pack had seemed very secretive to her...Magnolia had not given her anything to go on. She assumed that most of those canines stuck to their own lands, so as not to give their secrets away. It was a surprise to her that her biological mother might be out roaming the territories, and the fact that she might actually run into her hadn't crossed her mind until this moment. She froze in her actions, simply blinking and breathing for a few moments as she tried to gather her thoughts. I..I don't.. She began.

Then another canine appeared from the sepia brush, one that she very easily recognized. Sal. She said sharply. That was one name that she'd been able to recall. Her mind went back to the day her sister had attacked her outside of Ichika. Honestly, it had been one of the best things to happen to her. Frightening, but also good. The Salsolan had re-broken her leg for her and it had been able to mend correctly this time. Thank you for attacking me that day. You helped my broken leg to mend better than it had before - I can walk with ease, now. She said simply. She did not react to the other's raised lip except to raise her own very slightly, exposing a canine. Wretch looked to Eris, her expression more solemn. She is correct. Do with me what you will..but I do not remember you. I only remember this one because we've had another more recent encounter.

How should she describe her past events to this canine? Should she even try? She frowned once more before clearing her throat and beginning. I was found as a pup on the shores of Dahlia de Mai, outside of some ocean caves. I can remember playing in the caves...and then seeing big waves of water coming in. But nothing before or directly after that...until Saul Stormbringer found me and nursed me back to health. He said that I slept for days before waking, that I almost didn't make it through the stress of so many broken bones and so much blood being lost. She explained. Would the woman still feel that Wretch scorned her? She wasn't even sure what that phrase meant, but she hoped not. She came down one step from her perch, unsure if she would need to flee from the pair.

Eris could definitely try that at some point, if you're willing. Mushrooms might help. c: Yay for psychedelic drugs helping in trauma recovery, lol. Also, ppish of Salvia?

Eris is by Nat!

The dark woman gave a jerk of surprise as Salvia appeared, seemingly from nowhere. Eris had not realized her daughter was following along, Wretch's littermate and as adult as the pallid woman before her. The sable coyote's tail twitched a few times, her ears falling half-mast as she watched Salvia snarl, her anger more than apparent to Eris. So hurt was she, Eris considered unleashing all of Salvia's rage on the pale daughter there. Whether her timberwolf daughter would obey was not so questionable, but the raven-hued coyote nonetheless considered the consequences of such actions and found them too heavy to bear.

The hybrid stepped forward and put a hand to Salvia's shoulder, aiming to steady her daughter's rage. Let her explain this, at least, my dearest, she said, her voice dropped to loving whisper when addressing her loyal daughter. Eris then remained quiet as the pale woman spoke, peering with that half-stale curiosity. Eris appeared deathly tired, just barely able to raise herself to any level of interest for Wretch as she spoke. The hurt still churned in her belly, but she listened, nonetheless. The hybrid was strangely silent after the pale woman ceased speaking, regarding her with sharp yellow-green eyes. She recalled Dahlia de Mai, and she recalled the weakness that had infected it, as well. The same weakness had helped shape her daughter.

You were born in the caves of Anathema, and there you lived with us, the coyote said, simply enough. You remember nothing of this? the dark woman demanded, seemingly disbelieving the paler canine. Still, her hand stayed with Salvia, steadying her. There was anger within Eris, but it was dulled by the sharp hurt of being forgotten. At least her pied daughter was here to abate some of this hurt, her rage and anger proving her loyalty and love for the coal-furred woman, who looked to her tiger daughter with approval and admiration both in her chartreuse eyes.

Somehow, the white girl had learned her name. Salvia bared her teeth and growled at the words of praise, furious that she might be thanked for such a thing. She had done her a favor? Oh if that was the case she could do so again; though she readied herself to speak a hand brushed against her shoulder. Four-legged at she was, Salvia stilled and remained at her mother’s side. She listened to the story; something about water, caves, some other pack. It sounded like rubbish; how could she not recall them? How could she simply forget the early months of life? Salvia remembered everything—she remembered Misery’s white face and mad eyes, and she remembered Naniko and her children, and she remembered the way her father had torn apart Harlowe when they were attacked.

Green eyes blazed, but she remained by Eris’ side. While there was no doubt that her loyalty was to Sirius alone, she would not allow harm to come to her mother (Auxiliary or no). The pale wolf leaned against the thick leg at her side, but it was a slight motion, one that hardly put weight on it. Every muscle in her body was taunt, ready to attack; she wanted to cast out this pale ghost of the past. This upset her natural order, and it was something she had no desire to see done. The tigress said nothing, but the low rumble in her chest remained a constant, rolling thing.

OOC:

She did not know why she would not be believed, or why someone might think that she was lying or making things up. Wretch was no liar...she always told the truth. The pressure of seeing the pair of them had her shaking slightly, but she tried to still herself and face them with a braver face. Both of them seemed very sure of themselves in their mannerisms...bold, fierce. She wished she could be more like that. No, Dark Lady. I know nothing of you...not even your name. This one's name came into my head when she savaged me at the Ichika borders..but that is the only bit of information that I have. Had I known, I wouldn't have stayed in that ill-managed pack for a minute longer. Her voice was calm and clear.

What could be done about this, now? I met another..I met Pandemic. He told me that he was my family...but that's all that I know. I smelled him around one pack and tried to find him, but a scout at the border wouldn't let me in and I have not seen him since. She had made the effort to try and get into Salsola to visit him, but she'd had no success. I...I am sorry if my answers displease you. But I can offer nothing more than what I have said. It is the truth. She said finally. I am a loner now, a nomad. I call no place home. But I hope that you would not turn me away should I try to find you again someday

Eris is a bitch. >_>

Eris is by Libri!

Her tiger-daughter's fury was beautiful to behold. If it had been any other canine before them, Eris might have loosed her tawny daughter just to see the damage she could wreak unto others. Instead, the dark Optime remained with her hand upon Salvia's shoulders, the younger woman's growls palpable vibrations rumbling from deep within her. Eris, however, was more interested in her blue-eyed daughter's words than her elder child's wroth. Eris must see whether her daughter had become unsalvageable in the time she'd been an outsider to her family. Her pale daughter had never known the thistle kingdom, but Salsola was an extension of Eris's family, now -- it was not altogether impossible the snowy wolf would find a place within their pack.

There was more to learn than just about Wretch, though. Stunned as she was by the reappearance of her daughter, the dark coyote tilted her head imperceptibly at the mention of Ichika. She knew little enough of the tramontane pack and desired to know only what was absolutely necessary. Knowledge of their leadership as weak was valued, indeed -- of course, Eris had no way of knowing the leadership had changed since Wretch's departure. She considered her daughter's words at the cessation of her speech, nodding slowly to show she understood, though she waited a moment to speak, allowing Salvia to interject if her daughter found it necessary.

My name is Eris Eternity, and you are my daughter. Your father is Larkspur D'Angelo, and he gave you his surname, she said, bluntly. Should you find it in your heart to return to your family someday, you'll find it grown. Brothers, sisters, yes -- but cousins and aunts and uncles, too. This was cryptic, but it was far more revelatory than Eris might have given any other outsider to Salsola. Give my name to whichever border scouts you encounter, and maybe you'll find us again. You are not of our family until you return -- and neither, I think, can you understand this until you return. There was faint sorrow in her voice, but Eris was a cold-hearted creature. Her daughter-not-daughter was no more close to her than any other foreigner, and she had been given more quarter than Eris was usually wont to give.

There was impulse and the greater desire to obey, and of these two she differed to the latter. Salvia was more than capable of ripping her sister asunder; she cared little for family beyond the bonds established with her home. Those who were not made strong needed punishment, and those who betrayed sacred bonds were strangers to her. Had her impulse been stronger, she would have attacked her sister outright and brought about her end, unwilling to allow someone to threaten what she had worked so hard to maintain.

The mention of her brother’s name only further filled her with fury, and Salvia took one stiff-legged step forward. Again, her mother’s touch stilled her—this time it was stronger, a sharp tug as opposed to a gentle hand. Recognizing the command she stilled, but the ever present growl rolled from her chest, rising and falling as she breathed. While Eris offered the chance for reunion and home, Salvia’s burning eyes denied such a thing. Wretch had found her place living with the other tramontane dwellers, and if she abandoned them, why would she find it right to settle elsewhere? Those who fled homes were not worthy of such places.

Wordless, Salvia made her intentions clear. She would not disobey her mother, her leader, but she would not give quarter to the coyote-like woman that had once been family.
