Lights dreams had been filled with song, giving him a yearning to find its source. The soft high pitch of a bird’s song was constantly hummed by the scarred hunter as he drew or carried about his duties. He didn’t know why he felt the urge until it dawned on him about the animals that followed some of the pack members. He decided it was similar to the call of his clan spirit that he had when he was an adolescent. He remembered the week quite clearly the first days when the dreams began telling him to help his brother lead. The experience itself was both frightening and enchanting. The medicine wolf led his journey up until the point the spirits were ready to group with the young hunter. The great golden eagles of his clan were there... but the spirit that called to him was different this time. Something about it had made him feel safe and relaxed. He decided that that day he would begin his path toward meeting with the spirit or spirits that called to him. He would do it in the similar fashion he had done for his first journey. He just left, didn’t tell anyone that he had gone for something told him they would understand and get what was happening with the hunter. He also figured Leon would understand and if he didn’t know the custom just yet it wasn’t unlike the hunter to just up and leave on a hunt as he had warned the male he might do.

He collected his skins grabbed a kayak from the stores and carried them to the far North-Western part of the territory. He could stare out at the ocean when he reached his destination he could feel it still didn’t feel just right so she prepared the boat at the shore of the icy cold waters and stepped inside. It was a while before he found an island that seemed large enough and flush with enough trees so the male steered toward it. He docked the boat and started to immediately collect thick branches.

The construction of the small hut took the male most of the day. The longest part of his ceremony would be finding the proper rocks. It wasn’t that the rocks needed to be a certain shape or size, no they needed to feel right to the hunter. Back home the pack had a collection of stones already and they called them the grandfathers. Light wasn’t so fortunate as to have them so he would need to seek some worthy enough to be a part of his ceremony. It took him a couple days before he found a proper amount and prayed for hours before he was nearly ready to begin. He hadn’t eaten since the beginning of his journey nor had he slept more than a few hours. It was all part of the tests he was sure he had to fulfill to become successful.

Finally as the rocks heated in the flame just outside of the hut the male was ready. It wouldn’t be long now he was sure of it. He collected the hot stones from the embers of the dying fire and brought them into his small hut. Inside he had a pouch of water and when the stoned were set and the heat started to rise within the hut he poured the first of the water onto the rocks and started to chant his prayers. It wasn’t long before the male started to “see” the visions he was required to see before his journey could end.

The first had been memories that really hit him hard. It was the first moment he fell in love. There was a pup that he used to play with constantly. He was part of the smaller families within the pack not very important but Light enjoyed his company. He was constantly on his mind and one day when they were just entering their adolescence Light had told him how he felt with a great hope he felt the same. The male was horrified and reacted with such a ferocity Light’s heart was broken. Beaten because he could not fight the male he loved it wasn’t long after the rumours began. Light’s father had been furious when he caught wind of the rumour and had forced Light to deny them. The memory made Light’s chest ache tremendously and though he wanted it to stop he knew he couldn’t. Not long after the rumours his family forced him into a relationship with a young female named Laveni. He never liked the female, she was cold and bossy. But it wasn’t long before he realized his brother Swift was smitten by the female. Light gladly allowed his brother to take the female hoping his parents would be satisfied that he did. It wasn’t long before they threw another female at him and as much as he tried and wanted to love her he couldn’t. It became clear the male had started a pattern of taking females but breaking their hearts. It was a year since and his brother was already chosen to lead the pack. Their father growing ill it wouldn’t be long before Swift would become Alpha. Light’s training was deep in force and his goal to help his brother lead was deep in his mind. It wouldn’t be long before the first bear hunt began. Well trained, determined and naturally skilled Light was ready. The success had been amazing he had led the other older more experienced wolves with such a grace it was clear he was born to be a leader. The kill was shocking to the others and though it would be clear the male was meant to be their Beta many tested his strength. He gained more scars on top of the fresh ones he gained from the bear. But he held strong he wouldn’t be beaten into submission and the fights were often swiftly ended for the law would not change. He had won the bear hunt challenge therefore he was Beta. One of the healers had got to know him well. His name had been Trinton.

Light gasped and could feel the heat of the hut rising beyond the point it was suppose to reach and he opened the flap of the skin lined hut. The cold was fierce and his heart was heavy. He didn’t want to see what was coming but he knew it was part of his journey, who ever wanted him to see these it was clear she had more in mind than just his path. She... the scarred hunter gave a soft smile and was ready to continue.

Light had grown greatly attached to the soft spoken healer and sometimes he would get into a fight just so he could go see him afterward. Until one night the male couldn’t take it anymore, fearing the same result as his childhood friend Light decided words wouldn’t do. As the male bandaged his wound Light made it clear how good he made him feel and started to lick him. The next thing that happened was a surprise to the male for it was clear Trinton shared the feelings. That was the night Light lost his virginity.

Light let out a soft whimper.

Their relationship had been amazing, very secretive and Light had been more than ready to just leave and take the male with him so they could live together as mates. But Trinton ripped his heart out, he had been courting a female behind his back and before he could even realize Trinton announced his engagement publicly to the pack. Light had become quite cold after that, his need to hide his emotions started to become a major part of who he was. His pupils and hunting party were surprised by the shift but followed him none the less. Then came the day of his first test of his Beta requirements. If it hadn’t been for Trinton the male wouldn’t have done the duty. One of the guards called Light to the borders where a loner had been caught trespassing. Light had never met a loner before and the male was clearly beastly and ready to fight if his requests weren’t met. Light had been told what he would need to do if a trespasser was ever caught and prayed he would never meet one.

The vision skipped ahead making sure Light saw what he had done to the male without justifying it with what happened before then. The blood was everywhere, his body drenched, the loner was still alive though whimpering from the pain. As tough as he was his mutilation had broken the male. Light was a monster and in that moment he allowed his emotions set in. He was angry, very angry with what Trinton had done to him. He approached the dying male and started to talk to him like he was Trinton. You come into my life... rip out my life... for that my love I will take out your heart. The cold hard deep voice was frightening and almost crazy. He had done it slow, very slowly listening to the male’s screams and howls echo within the punishment cave as the others waited. He could have asked anyone else to do it, could have avoided it all together but know the male wanted this wanted to show he could. He tossed the heart at the feet of the guards not long after the screams stopped and ordered him to post him up in place of one of the other loners that had been hung on the borders of their lands. He never looked back at the moment until now.

Stop! Light yelled as he opened the flap. He felt his body shaking his eyes welling with tears. Why was she doing this to him? Why was she showing him this? The wind blew the flap shut and it took a while before he allowed himself to relax back into the visions.

What he saw next weren’t really memories just flashes of moments and friends he had when he was in his pack. The males that he swooned but lost to female mates, the females he tried to love but swiftly lost them to others. Constantly alone and suffering the male’s heart was heavy. Then there was a pause and he thought it was over until his mind opened to the future.

He saw Gemma and Matteo smiling with him, he saw the pups that recently came to his hut with Leon, he saw Hotaru laughing with her beauty, then there was Leon and his enchanting face that smiled at him so serenely. Various other people flashed before him but it ended with two he had not known. Saxif stood before him her face aged and levelled with his she looked so beautiful so wonderfully amazing Light started to cry. At her sides two very young males stood with her one looked just like her, his eyes blue as the sky. And the other a mix of many browns with his nieces eyes. That male ran to him bounding at him like he had missed him so much, like he had known him so well and leapt at him ready to be caught.

It was done, he could feel it. As the visions faded he wasn’t sure how long he had been in the hut his fur drenched from the steam. He opened his eyes and he could feel them starting to fade into his mind like a dream would when awakened. He emerged from his hut and sat there staring out at the ocean seeing the vast land of Souls in the distance. He pondered what he had seen and his chest started to heave with cries that started to grow into a howling pain. He had never looked at his life as a tragedy he only ever allowed himself to focus on the success. When his heaves and heaviness started to subside he noticed a small bird in a tree nearby. The bird was merely watching him, its small head twitching from side to side. Light furrowed his brow slightly wondering what the bird had been doing there. Then it sang lightly, a tune he had grown familiar with. It was the tune he had been hearing and humming. He let out a single bursting laugh and smiled at the bird. She flew and landed upon his knee. Her eyes looked up at him and with that look he knew her name easily.

Makade (Mah-kah-day) He chuckled lightly at the perfect name for the spirit. For it showed they were meant to be. For there cannot be light without dark. Then his smile fell just slightly and he gazed into her small knowing eyes. Onjida? He asked in his native tongue about the visions. The bird whistled slightly and she started to speak.

Wawezhitaawinan The spirit responded. Light nodded but he did not like what he might be ready for. He decided not to ask any further of the spirit for he knew that she was only there to guide him along his path not to tell him what to expect.

He gathered the skins wrapping the rocks within them before tucking them into the boat. He headed home with the small bird fluttering around him singing her delightful song. Light smiled and in a way he felt whole, like she had been waiting for this day, waiting for him to finally be there and he knew from that point on they would never part until his death.[/html]
