Zana had been following his scent for a while, her cousin of sorts, though it seemed that almost everyone in the clan was a cousin of sorts. She chuckled at the idea as she idly followed the scent of Aemon across the lands. She knew that sooner or later she would find him or he would find her, if he wanted to be found but for now she was content to wander. Timori had luckily stayed put with his grandmother Kaena, the woman had seemed somewhat thrilled to see the child but Zana hadn't stayed long enough to find out much more after she had agreed to watch the tiny puppy for a while while she went out across the clan lands.

Zana had also realized that she would have to move her den it seemed for good, or at least until she could construct some sort of bridge to cross the river. It was just to troublesome and unsafe to try and forge the river with the small child. She knew that once the ice finally was thick enough for them to walk across she wouldn't have to worry for a moon or so, but come spring with the rains and the flooding she didn't even want to think about the dangers that would befall her and the child if they stayed in her little tinkerers home.

She sighed at the thought but she would go to Helotes soon enough and ask him. If he was serious and really wanted her company she would do the right thing for her nephew and appease Helotes in the same stroke. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. She still wasn't certain it was the best idea but she would at least give it a try for now. It wouldn't kill her after all to try.

She shook her troublesome thoughts from her mind once more and pressed her nose to the ground, trying to catch the scent of the de le Poer man once more that way she could see if he had any news of the borders or any tasty little bits of gossip that might interest her. It was their duty, but she wouldn't mind the company of another either. A child was not the most interesting of creatures to talk to sometimes..

Aemon had remembered the pygmy woman from the pack meeting; her tiny frame had been curious to him, and his gaze had gone back to her more than once, curious about what skills she must have had to have kept her alive for so long. Of course she had the protection of the clan, Aemon knew, but as such a small Luperci she was certainly more exposed to predators, especially in the winter time. He tried not to concern himself with it, but he had much time to think about all sorts of strange things as he patrolled the borders. Most frequently, his thoughts would remain on the work, on the terrain and his surroundings. But sometimes, after long hours and little action, he would allow himself to think freely, often finding himself considering the lives of those around him, concerned for the well-being of his packmates. He often wondered if his half-brother Ezekiel got nearly as much sleep as his aging body deserved. Even Aemon already knew what it was like to go days with so little sleep. He hated that, and his body did too. On this day, though, he had been well-rested, and he had made it a point to wake up and catch himself a quick breakfast before starting the day's chores.

He had scouted out a particularly deep pool of water along the shoreline and spent several hours in the morning spearfishing in the frigid waters. He'd caught five decently sized fish, and voraciously ate two of them on the spot. The others he would save for a meal later in the day, or even the next day, he thought, as there was plenty of meat left. With the limp, slimy scaled bodies dangling on the large skewer of a weapon, Aemon made to head back towards the Grimwell Caverns, thinking he might start up a fire later to roast them. His cooking skills were limited, but they existed, and if necessary he could prepare a fairly tasty meal. Most often, though, he left the more delicate recipes to those with greater skill.

Wedging the spear between the branching trunk of a tree, Aemon set to gathering the means for a fire. He'd already arranged a number of large stones into a makeshift fire pit, a small project that he had found quickly necessary. Aemon drew his cloak farther around his body, and closer to his neck as he gathered kindling and firewood slowly in the chilly mid-morning air. It was a beautiful day, and he couldn't help the smile from growing on his face, enjoying the small pleasure of the warmth of the sun on his pale features. It was a shame he was alone, he thought, and cast a glance in the direction of Ezekiel's cave, wondering if the golden man was around. He figured he could also go find Ithiel, but his brother seemed to travel quite a bit on that horse. Aemon still needed to get one, though he dreaded the thought of training the thing. He could do it, of course, but he didn't enjoy it.

As Aemon busied himself readying the fire, he didn't notice the scent of the smaller woman as she approached. Perhaps she was downwind, but at the sight of her he gasped and started, dropping some kindling as his muscles jerked. He recovered quickly, though, and laughed at himself, shaking his head. "I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there," he confessed, and bent to pick up the sticks. "Zana, was it?" he asked as he shoved the smaller sticks beneath the thick logs that already lay in place. Then, taking a long match from his pocket he struck it once and lit the base, fanning the flame here and there with his hand and breath. "Please, join me," he offered, motioning for her to come over. He didn't really have chairs out here, but the ground was not so unpleasant to sit on, he thought. Motioning to the fish propped against the tree, Aemon added, "I have some fish I was about to cook here soon, if you'd like some." The silvery coyote was a courteous man to all of his packmates, but he had a particular interest in this woman now, and wondered how she had come about all of the scars she wore. "How are you?" he asked, genuinely curious. The young de le Poer was not always the best at striking up a conversation, either, so he started with the easiest thing. Smiling at her, he poked and prodded at the fire as it began to grow, thin tendrils of smoke rising and dissipating in the frosty air.

The tiny woman was a creature of simple pleasures. She spent her days performing her duties, tending to the child of her brother and just hoping for a few moments with the dark hued cousin that always seemed to be missing these days. They came from different ranks in the pack and their lives seemed bound to clash only at the rarest of moments. While she savored each and every one of these memories she sometimes wished that her duties didn't take her so far from the clan mates she had grown to know and trust. Some days though she didn't mind, because it reminded her that it removed her from the conflict that danced around the leader of the warriors and herself.

Her mind today was lingering on a million thoughts and not taking the time to stop and savor anything. It was just as well since she would rather pad through the lands unmolested in her search for the strange male who shared more blood with her nephew than herself. The de le Poer line was something she knew less and less about, though their blood was just as strong in the clan lands as the Lykoi brand. The tiny woman would search them out, just for her tiny blood kin who was closer to her than anyone she had at this moment in time.

She had stopped for a moment, her nose tilted towards the sky as she caught the scent of fish. She was slightly confused because she was not near the river or the bay just now. After a moment she realized that it mingled with the scent of Aemon, the male she had been following. The scent made her tummy rumble as she tried to ignore the silly pangs of hunger. She had made certain that Timori had been fed that morning and Sup-Sup as well, ignoring herself for the moment knowing in time she would be able to find something to ease the pangs that were making thought and process a little more troublesome this day.

She let go of the thoughts of food, knowing that she would find a meal before the day let out. Instead she set out once more after the trail of the light hued male. Zana never really thought of herself as dangerous, scary or even stealthy.. but she could be all three of those things when the time called for it. The tiny woman's personal scent rang of the hard work, sweat, blood and tears she poured into the pack, but mingling with that was a dangerous potion to add into the mixture. She was poison. Most every weapon she carried was dipped in one poison or another, her own personal concoctions that could do all from render one sleepy and ill to bring the heart to stop beating. The new found duties of a mother had turned her into a ticking time bomb as well when the child was present and things went awry.

Now though she had found the end of the trail of fish and Aemon, the scent ending outside the caverns. She didn't speak, but instead sat back on her haunches and quietly watched the male for he was beginning to make preparations for starting a fire. She had learned long ago how to tend to the fires, to bring water to boil and to roast fresh meat over the open flames but generally these things were done on a much smaller level than what her kin of sorts was tending to. She watched him with her head tilted slightly to the side as he seemed to be concentrating hard on his task. Instead of interrupting him she enjoyed the moment of quiet as she let him continue unmolested with his chores.

She had been so intent on not interrupting the male that she had been startled when he finally realized she was there and gave a gasp of surprise. She flicked her ears back slightly as she watched him trying to recover from her seemingly sudden appearance. She was baffled by how startled he had been that it took her a moment to realize she was being rude and hadn't replied. She shook her head and smiled slightly, "Don't worry, I'm easy to miss.." she stated with a slight chuckle as she moved closer to the fire he was coaxing to life. Nodding in agreement when he asked if he had gathered her name correctly. "And you're Aemon I believe?" She was the eyes and ears of the clan, it wasn't hard for her to learn what she needed of the members without them knowing, especially when no harm came from that knowledge either.

She settled down beside the crackling flames as they began to lick at the wood and begin the process of turning the limbs and branches into embers. Her eyes danced in the fire as she smiled at his offer to share his catch. "Thank you. I had other duties to attend to today and have not found the time to hunt just yet." she stated as she watched the flames begin to lick at the thicker branches. Her grey lavender orbs turned to gaze upon the young male as she smiled. "It is a weary path to tend to the clan lands and gain knowledge of the world beyond.. but it is a good weariness in the end." She didn't know what the man really wished her to speak of so she came to the one thing that came naturally, her duties to the clan.

Aemon was not used to such miniscule company, but he tried not to make that obvious. He was a courteous young man, after all, and Zana was not only older but higher ranked than he. If anything, he might could learn a thing or two from her small size and maneuverability. Aemon's size was rather average for a coyote, albeit slightly larger than average, and with the lengthy limbs and plush fur that might belong to a wolf. The thick clothing he wore today kept him from being as quiet and stealthy as he was in his lupus form; he wondered how good effective Zana's skills were in her own four-legged form. Crimson orbs found her tiny blue-grey ones, and he smiled as she made her way to the fire.

Thick grey cords of hair swayed as he nodded his head, "that's right." Happy to provide for his packmates, Aemon adjusted the logs for another moment before he was satisfied with the burning that had begun there. "Well, then I'm happy to provide for you," he said with a grin, rising and stepping over to the tree that housed his catch. "And I understand," the silvery Vigiles added as he lifted the skewered fish from the branches of the gnarled wood and brought them back to the fire. "As Vigiles, I've been working to learn my share about Inferni, as well, he admitted, quickly adding, "though I still have a way to go, I think." Aemon set the makeshift spit across the flames, held on either side by two small wooden X's. Then, he stood back, watching as the flames flickered and licked up onto the meat, dry scales curling up and flesh moistening with the warmth. Already, the scent filled the air and Aemon took a deep breath of it. He was happy for the company, and happy for the meal. He was sure it would be plenty for her at such a small size, and he only really needed a snack. "Anything exciting happening today?" he asked, curious about the life of his Caelum and her service to the clan.
