Broken Land Sturdy Soul

It was a strange land, where Terra stood. The smell had been what had drawn her. Walking past Ichika Terra had caught the scent of fresh dirt, with a layer of filth overtop. Curious as to what could make such a strange scent Terra had followed it, finding herself facing a scarred landscape. Huge patches of ash covered sections, yet throughout it small bits of green broke through. There was a tiny tree, clumps of grass, even a couple bushes. It looked barren with the snow covering it, almost forboding.

With a leap Terra sprung over the snow, leaving her mark behind. It was an empty landscape, no other animals in sight. For the moment it was her private playing field. Happily she spun around, leaving the marks as she would. Maybe when she came back in spring the trees would be taller again. More grass would grow. Until then it was mud under her feet, the crisp white snow trying to hide the scarred land. Joyfully Terra let out a yip, letting it echo through the air.

The metallic hued wolfess had spent her day far from home. She'd finished tormenting the souls of Ichika and had left to pad back across the old lands to where once the pack she had been born into reigned long ago. She hadn't gone far into the land of ashes and snow, for she knew all that existed there and none of it was pretty. Her emerald orbs scanned the land as she realized that she should find prey to bring home to the younger feline that had taken to being part of her life. She sighed, knowing that he had probably went out to find his own meal but in the face that he didn't she wouldn't want to show up with nothing to show for the day.

Her silvery pelt slide though the old skeletons of the past silently. She was like the ghost that belonged to the lands, once she had been that ghost but those days were long behind her. Her mother and father had been weak, she would not follow in their paw prints. She would never be a cowardly leader that hid behind talks of peace and alliances. A pack should never need to form alliances to stay strong, their own numbers, warriors and trials should prove enough. She would prove that one day, but today she would hunt.

The sounds of a hare had caught her attention. The near silence of it's nibbling at the twigs of what last year had been new grow had been what had drawn her to it's location. The scent of the prey was sweet and young, the hare plump and tender still for the season had just begun. Her mouth was already watering as she quickly fell into a stalking crouch, her body poised, quivering with excitement as she sprang, her paws churning the ruined earth as she drove down upon the small creature. She was almost upon it before the prey had even realized it was in trouble. While it tried to run the woman used her large paws to send the rabbit cascading head over rump as she drove her fangs into it's soft plump body, snapping it's neck quickly, the cry of a dying rabbit being the only sound in the sinking silence once more.

The squeal of a dying rabbit caught Terra's attention. She skidded to a halt, paws stepping into previous pawprints. She lifted her head, scenting for what had caused it. The air was still once more, but the scent of a dead rabbit came through. It was freshly killed, and just a short distance away. Always the optimist Terra trotted over towards the scent, looking for the source. If she could distract whatever had killed the rabbit long enough, she'd have fresh kill to eat.

Cresting the top Terra peered down. A wolf sat there, the rabbit greedily clenched between her teeth. The blood dripped into the snow, causing Terra to drool. Licking her lips she surveyed the small area that the wolf had decided to stop in. It was a small dip, making it difficult to see around. It was good for hiding from others for a distance, but it also made it more difficult to spot them coming up. Tail wagging softly Terra backed up, carefully tracing her steps back.

As silent as the snow blanketed around them Terra stepped around. The barren ground and soft snow now served her, giving little room for things such as twigs that could snap and cause noise. Now behind the wolf Terra let out a growl, large and intimidating. Swiftly she darted away, leaving only paw prints as proof she'd been there. Creeping to a side Terra peeked over, waiting to see the results. If it had worked, and the wolf had turned to see what had caused the noise, Terra would growl again to disorient. Or, if the female was foolish enough to drop the kill to investigate, Terra could just dash down and grab it.
