Sophie tilted her head curiously as Hotaru spoke, calling her something..."precious". She wasn't familiar with that term. Her father had never called her such things, though she might have been his princess, figuratively speaking. The only female child he'd ever had, rather like her mother in most ways, and yet he'd never seen anything more than a nuisance in her baby blues. But she didn't linger on the strange word for long, her gaze instead rising to the sky, trying to pinpoint the sun though it had long disappeared past the treeline, even before her fateful meeting with Hotartu. She would have to remember...something, to help her remember East to West. It rose in the east, and it..set...

"Sophie remembers! Sets in the West!" She yipped, and waved her tail happily at the thought. It even rhymed, a little, which would make it an easier concept for her simpler, childish mind to grasp. She continued to chant her little rhyme, almost completely missing the instructions, and then blinked and turned around to squint at Hotaru. She'd said "parents" are with you, and for a moment Sophie was worried and confused, thinking perhaps that she wouldn't be allowed ever, if there was a height limit and a parental requirement to visit...but she worked it out eventually, and smiled shyly, nodding acquiescence. She wouldn't go until she was old enough to travel on her own, or her brothers were with her. After all, Leon was the King of their little pack, and surely a King held higher standing than a Faffer?

Sophie shook herself, and did her best not to get caught by the hypnotic stare of Fawkes, as she had earlier in their encounter, as she began shuffling toward the tracks she'd left to bring her home. At Hotaru's question, Sophie smiled brightly, and shook her head, voicing her polite refusal. "No thankie, Muss Ho-tar-u! Sophie find own way home!" She promised, and with that she scampered into the underbrush, mind already on her next adventure.

One that may or may not take her off the tracks leading home...but then, that was just the way of the explorer.

Hotaru

Word Count → 256 :: Out of Character text.

Hearing Sohpie chant the "rhyme" over and over again was pretty funny. Her high pitched voice rang through the forest as she repeated the lines over and over again in an attempt to memorize the pattern's of the sun. It was good information and Hotaru hoped that her work would pay off. If she was lucky, she would be able to see the puppy in a few months, or even a few weeks. It would be nice to talk to Sophie again when she got older, and hopefully by that time Hotaru could give Sophie a real work of art. Not just the simple bracelet that Hotaru made.

It was a little disappointing to hear Sophie decline her offer. Hotaru wanted to extend their time together as long as possible. Not to mention that the chance to find out where Sophie lived was an appealing prospect to the blind wolf. But alas, Shophie had turned down her offer so Hotaru had to respect her discussion. Hotaru stood and listened as Sophie scampered off into the distance. She stood there for a few minutes, wishing that the puppy would return and take up her offer.

Eventually, she too turned around and walked home. The grey wolf was both happy and sad. Happy to have met such a wonderful wolf, and sad to have seen the meeting end. Her pace was slow, and the staff hung lazily in front of her while Fawkes enjoyed the ride on her shoulder. Together, bird and master returned to the Artist's den.
