If only for a while

A gentle and content smile caressed her soft face as the female strode through the narrow path marked out for her with ease. Prickling in her pelt was a nice feeling that came with the dawn air. It blew through the dark strands, sending light chills down her spine. Despite the harsh and rather dense breeze, she was warm and prepared for the breeze to just get more harsh and denser. She turned her large head upwards to let her eyes see the clouds that hung overhead. She had to stop when a quick and silly thought shot through her mind. What if she was a cloud? So she just stood there imagining herself joining the puffy white cotton balls as a pitch black cloud. It didn't take long for the she wolf to shake the thought off for it was totally stupid and silly. She almost laughed at herself for thinking up such nonsense.

Once she was able to settle herself with reality, she continued on the mountain path. The sights were to her liking, pine trees reached out to the sky, ever so gently swaying in the autumn air and stars twinkled in the distance as far as the eye could see. This was good. The she wolf was taking the time to enjoy herself but she was sure this would end. A frown followed after this thought. The female stopped and took a look around. "Maybe this would be a good time to rest...since I need to contact a alpha anyway..." And with that, she did, standing there looking on. Mesmerized by the lights below her, a sigh was released from her. She felt alone so her guard was steadily dropped. Eventually, she was able to get comfortable. She sat on her ebony colored haunches, gawking and taking in the landscape. Her mind became blank with the exception of a few happy things. The she wolf hadn't noticed that a nonchalant smile escaped onto her jaws as she howled.

Well hi there! How much coyote does Insomnia have in her by the way? That will sway whether or not she will be allowed to join.

The ebony pelted matriarch was also watching the clouds, jade eyes were scanning the skies, a small smile crossed her lips as she realised that she was staring at the same sky as her children and her old pack mates; she loved the new pack dearly, she was already feeling very at home here, but she knew that she would always miss the others, they would always have a little piece of her heart. The clouds rolled over the sky with lazy grace, again a smile graced the ebony Beta's lips as she began to pad around the pack lands once again. It was now one of her roles to make sure that the borders were well marked and well defended, the dark female was relishing the role already, she felt that she was needed here, she felt that Zalen and Titania were respectful of her, that they were willing to take her advice, that they wanted her to give her opinions; that was not that she had not had that in Crimson Dreams, but Savina and Anu had always been so capable, they had run the pack for a long time, they knew that Soran herself was wise, they simply did not need her input, whereas Zalen seemed to value it, something which in turn made the dark Beta feel valued herself. Soran thought all of this whilst she padded around the borders, her tail held high in a dominant stance, it was something that was expected of her now, she was the Beta and so the other pack wolves were submissive to her, well at least at her discretion. She walked more slowly than she normally did, her injured leg was still not completely healed, but it was getting there, the pain was far less intense and frequent now, but the limp was still present every now and again when the damaged muscle would buckle slightly from having to bear the weight of the dark female. Paws barely left a mark on the snow covered ground as the ebony pelted female walked, she sniffed the air with every few steps, testing the strength of the borders and checking to see if there were any unfamiliar scents in the air.

That was when she caught the scent of another, dark ears perked up in curiosity; the sable matriarch always loved meeting new wolves, especially potential joiners, what the pack needed now was numbers and the dark female was more than happy to greet newcomers. She began to make a move towards the scent when the howl sounded, velvety ears swiveled to catch the sound, it seemed to be a female, calling for someone to come and meet her. Soran raised her own dark head and let out a loud call of response, she was not far away after all, she might as well go and meet this newcomer. The ebony pelted female then began to trot towards the source of the howl, she moved quickly, limping slightly with every few steps but moving at a faster pace than she had been capable of only a few days ago. The sable Beta slowed to a walk as she noticed the female sat near the borders, she seemed relaxed, sat upon her haunches, a smile playing across her lips. Soran gave a small smile herself before noticing the distinct coyote like features of this dark female that sat so close to the borders, she hoped that this was not the case, the pack needed numbers but she would not accept a coyote into the ranks, that was against their rules and somewhat against the sable matriarch's own ideals, she was not trusting of coyotes, she was more accepting of half coyotes but still she did not trust them very much. There were a few exceptions to this of course, but for the most part the sable female's mind would not be changed on the subject. Soran padded closer, walking with a steady pace now, raising herself into a dominant stance, her ears forward, standing tall, her tail held up high behind her; this was something that was expected in the pack, the newcomers were expected to show submission and she was expected to show dominance. The dark lady watched the young girl with careful green eyes, the coyote blood in the girl smelling far more obvious now that she was close by. The sable female wrinkled her nose in slight disappointment but changed her features as she came closer.
Hello there stranger, you called for someone to meet you? What is it you seek from New Dawn? Soran asked.

Hi <3. Insomnia is like 90% wolf and 10% coyote.

Her different colored-painted eyes flickered over the wolfs face, her neck relaxing and dropping her head in acknowledgement of the other females obvious status. She could see that this wolf before her held a position of power, the powerful nature at which he stood, and the matching scent along the border giving way to the fact of a important rank. Insomnia let her eyes drop for a moment as her tail slipped into a rhythmic wag, glad at last for the company.

A question was sent her way, to which Insomnia let her eyes drift back to meet the female, in more of an inquisitive gesture than a means of provocation. "I seek a home," she stated simply, her tone level and honest as it mirrored the mood of her eyes. The name New Dawn had an ring to it that matched itself equally with the lands before her, but Insomnia couldn't help it as her eyes remained on her.

"Somewhere to belong," Perhaps that was more of an elaborate explanation that was necessary to give, but she hardly noticed, giving an honest answer to who appeared to be an honest wolf, strong in her age, but just as slowed by it. "Perhaps New Dawn might be that place. These plains are comforting," A small smiled slipped onto her face and the ghostly figure her talons to tap gently onto the dirt and grass beneath hier feet, tail still gently wagging quietly behind her.

Ah cool, was just double checking because of the 25%+ rule for the pack Smile That's all good then Smile

The sable female watched the younger girl as she moved into a submissive posture, this was a good sign, it seemed that the dark pelted girl was aware of the correct etiquette of being greeted at the borders of a strange pack. She allowed a small smile to cross her lips as she looked the dark pelted female over, she was less coyote than the sable Beta had first assumed it seemed, this was a good thing, in fact now that she was close to the girl it seemed that her eyes had been playing tricks on her, this girl seemed far more wolven than she had first assumed, in fact now that she could smell the female properly it seemed that she smelt nothing like a coyote in truth. Soran laughed internally, just inside her head, not wanting to scare the girl with a sudden bought of laughter, she could not help but feel silly, it seemed that knowing that coyotes were unwelcome here had made her mind twist things out of proportion, playing tricks on her and perhaps even making her a little paranoid, she could not help but feel that she had been a little silly. She smiled at the younger girl as she spoke, saying that she was here for a home, Soran nodded as she explained this, she relaxed her stance a little as she did so, remaining dominant, but not to an excessive degree, she did not want to frighten the younger girl away, after all the pack needed all of the new members that they could get, they needed numbers to boost their growing family. The jade eyed lady nodded as the girl elaborated on what she had previously said, saying that she was looking for somewhere to belong and that she hoped that this was the place for her. The girl seemed sincere enough for her, Soran watched her carefully, there did not seem to be a hint of a lie in what she had said, after all she had no real reason to lie here, she had already managed to get the dark mother to relax a little.

Soran moved to sit, remaining in a dominant stance though, watching the younger female, the newcomer met her gaze, but somehow Soran knew that she did not mean it as a threat, it was not a challenge, the girl was simply looking at her in curiosity.
"I see, well I am Soran Aatte, I am the Beta wolf of this pack, New Dawn." Soran replied, her tone a lot more warm than it had been when she had greeted this new wolf.
"What is your name? And what skills do you have that you might bring to our pack?" She asked, watching the girl carefully, a smile now playing on her lips, it was true that she was the dominant wolf here and that if she allowed the girl to stay that she would remain the dominant wolf, but that did not mean that she was not friendly or maternal, she could not help herself, she wanted to put this younger female at ease while she sat upon their borders.

;D

Insomnia was glad to see the older wolf relax, watching as the other mirrored her action of taking a seat. She could feel the air lighten as Soran let a bit of a smile tug on her muzzle, making her think she was friendly but yet still dominate. A kind, strong smile lifted Insomnia's lips back, a nod of her head given in response as her tail wagged yet again behind him. "I am Insomnia," she said, her voice smooth as it exited her throat, her breath expelled in the form of vapor that spilled form his lips. She paused his words to settle back onto her haunches, curling her tail around to settle over her toes, posture matched that of Soran's, but with a different essence. An essence of youth, newfound maturity and perhaps a different manifestation of strength.
"What skills can I offer?" She said, more as a thought than repeating her question. "I help anyone in need and I know right and wrong.." Her voice trailed off as she went into deep thought. What could she offer. Yes she was like every other wolf and could get food and watch pups but the only skills she really knew of was kindness and that didn't seem to help anyone now a days. A exasperated sigh flooded from her mouth, the tendrils of warm air encapsulating the world about her for just a moment; but she didn't even notice

Big Grin

Soran had not always been a wolf that could adapt, well she was always able to but that did not mean that she had enjoyed it; all throughout her life everything had been constantly changing, she had belonged to many packs, she had fallen in love, she had ad children and left lovers, she had travelled countless miles, sometimes she had loathed everything about change. But now there was a difference, the dark lady had settled into this new role quickly and comfortably, she was happy here, it was a good change, nothing too serious, it was not like when Inferni had driven her old pack from her home or when Deuce had left her, this change was a step in the right direction. Soran was attempting to dive into this new life as quickly as she could, already she was enjoying being within the lands, being the Beta of a pack, helping her new leaders (wolves that she considered to be as close to her as her own children), yes, this had been a good decision. The dark female was starting to feel happy here, she hoped that others were feeling the same. She especially wanted this new female to feel happy here, if she were to feel at ease, to feel welcomed then she was more likely to stay, this was a rare situation for Soran to be in; the dark lady had always been a member of a pack that could pick and choose who they selected to come into their ranks, packs that had a full compliment of members, but here the pack was new and Soran wanted them to build their numbers up, sometimes new packs could be tested for strength, the more members that New Dawn had the stronger they would appear to be and therefore the less likely they were to be attacked. New Dawn's proximity to Inferni had not gone unnoticed by the sable lady, she did not want them to get ideas about claiming their lands as their own as they had done with her old pack, Syemv. The more wolves they had within the ranks the safer they would be in the dark female's eyes, she had come too far, given up too much to see the pack fall at the first hurdle.

The girl spoke her name and Soran smiled, Insomnia, an unusual name but an intriguing one, yes it seemed a fine name in the sable Beta's eyes. The dark female smiled.
"It is nice to meet you Insomnia." Soran stated, smiling at the girl, her tail wagging a little, she raised her dark head a little, stretching her long neck out as she listened to the girl speak about her skills. She seemed to state some interesting skills, perhaps she did not feel the need to state the obvious; hunting, fishing, pup rearing and the like, perhaps she was finding it difficult to think of extra skills? Soran nodded as she spoke, it seemed that the girl was kind and that was something that the Beta held in high regard, kindness was something that seemed to be dying out, to Soran's horror, perhaps the fact that this girl seemed to be saying that she was kind was a sign that the goodness of others was not completely gone.
"It sounds like you are very kind Insomnia, tell me, how is your hunting? Fishing perhaps?" The dark lady asked, already she was leaning towards accepting this girl, but she did needed to know that she could help provide food for this little family first.

Insomnia was nice to her and she wanted to ask her so many questions and wanted to get to know her. It was a bit weird, but Insomnia was happy and her happy go lucky self was all about talking with her and actually seeing a living animal. As the conversation they had ended she ask her to what her skills were. That caught her off guard and it made her hesitant, she didn't want to end up under the reign of another power hungry wolf. It took her a minute to debate it in her head before she agreed. She would be skeptical about this all until she saw how well it was gonna play out for her.
It took a few moments to remember what they had been talking about before her mentioned wanting to know her skills. "I can hunt and fish just fine. When I was a loner, I found a huge pond and caught at least half of the fish inside!" She sighed and looked down. She didn't want to remember being alone. She wanted a new life, a new family and at least one friend. "Is everyone here nice to each other?" , She asked with worry filled in her eyes. She couldn't deal with hate anymore. She shook her fur out, and smiled at Soran again. She thought the female would become a great friend to her one day. "The reason I ask that is because you seem really nice and kind to a stranger you just met. Not many people are like that these days."

Welcome to New Dawn!!! I shall get you titled up and the like Smile

Soran smiled at the younger girl, she seemed pleasant enough and Soran wanted to populate these lands with pleasant wolves, she wanted each and every one to be able to feel about their pack mates the way she felt about them, that they were not just a collection of wolves that happened living their lives within the same land, that they were more than that, friends, that they were a family. For if one could not love and trust their pack mates, then how could one survive as a pack wolf? It would be better to be a loner than to dislike those that you shared a home with surely? And the ebony Beta had to confess that she was already very fond of the younger dark wolf that sat before her, yes, in Soran's mind she could see that she would be a good addition to the pack, she was someone that Soran could grow to like and respect, yes, Soran could imagine that she would be good to have around. That was why she listened with such rapt attention to what the girl said next, she spoke about hunting and fishing, Soran let out a small chuckle at the tale of catching half the fish in a pond. She could not help but smile, the way that the girl said it sounded like it had indeed been quite a feat.
"Ah that sounds rather commendable, I am sure that skills like that could come in very handy in this pack." Soran replied, smiling at the girl honestly, she did not expect everyone that arrived here to have skills, but she did prefer it, after all it helped with feeding her new family and defending their home if a wolf could hunt or fight, yes they needed wolves like that while the pack was in its infancy.

The girl spoke again and asked if everyone was nice to each other, the sable female smiled at her as she spoke those words, it seemed that the younger female might have had a hard time along the way. She nodded as the girl spoke.
"Yes, we consider ourselves a family here, well as close to one as you can get, we treat one another with respect and kindness." Soran replied, a smile playing on her lips.
"From what I have heard you sound like you would be a wonderful addition to our little family, come along and I'll give you the tour, welcome to New Dawn." The dark Beta offered, smiling at the female broadly as she spoke those words, it seemed that this was fate, they were destined to succeed as a pack, already wolves were coming to join them! How wonderful it was to find wolves that were interested in being a member of their little family.
