Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

OOC: Sorry its so short.

The night was descending and the temperature was beginning to drop. Hotaru could feel her breath warm the air in front of her snout and the cool air that tickled her nose. If it weren't for her thick winter coat, the grey wolf would be freezing. Luckily, her fur was thick and protected her from the bite of winter. Winter was a time of prosperity and snow, although there was no snow on the ground today. That would change though, she could smell it. Snow was coming and would coat the land in a white blanket before the sun rose.

Hotaru sat outside her house on the bolder she had placed there a while back. It was a wise decision on her part, even if the effort to move the stupid thing was large. The blind wolf often enjoyed sitting on the bolder to carve wood. It was like her own private seat outside, and the large surface provided her with just enough space for both herself and her tools. However, tonight she did not have her carving tools or even a piece of wood. Instead she was sitting with Fawkes, the large bird sitting comfortably by her side. Hotaru stroked her companion with the back of her hand, his soft feathers folding slightly beneath her fingers. Fawkes sat quietly, enjoying the attention.

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

Wandering, it was all the girl could do to relieve a strange worry that was growing in her stomach. Why was she so worried about someone she had only truly seen once, how could someone be that stuck in your mind? All he did was help her learn how to use a piece of string and wood to kill a stupid bird like a pigeon, well and bring her flowers that were the last of their kind for such a cold landscape. What was so big about that?

Her eyes sparkled with a smile as she thought of Lorenzo, only to shake her head to remove the worry that ate at her. Why had he not come to visit her, did she do something wrong? He brought her flowers but she had yet to see him, why? Why, why, why? The cream girl kicked the snow in frustration, shivering out of built up emotions not out of cold. She had to know, what did she do wrong? She was a typical girl trying to find the answer to something that was so simple, she did not know her mother sent him on a quest to find a diamond before he could she her again. She really thought it was her fault.

Stopping just inside the border, Juliet stopped walking. Trying to clear her mind before heading back home. Calm… her mind whispered as she finally looked around the boring winter canvas, her eyes falling on a familiar form. It was the new wood carver right? With a soft shrug she moved closer to the gray wolf, eyeing the strange bird more than anything.

”Hey, your H.. hotaru right? I like your bird” She stated in a monotone voice, not remembering that the woman was blind or that she could have scared the bejesus out of her.

Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

The sound of footsteps brought Hotaru out of her own little world. The footsteps weren't all that close, nor were they familiar. The blind wolf had learned to identify individuals by the way they walked. Some, like Shawchert, walked with heavy gate while others walked silently or smoothly. Whoever was approaching was not someone Hotaru knew well. She couldn't help but sigh a little and hope that the stranger would simply walk past her. Although, it had been one of those days.

A quiet night to herself didn't seem possible as the footsteps paused near Hotaru and the voice of Juliet reached her ears. Hotaru's red tipped ears flicked towards Juliet, but she didn't move anything else but her hand that was gently stroking Fawkes. Juliet's voice was monotone, a trait Hotaru had not noticed during their previous brief meeting. The blind wolf took note of her quick, light steps and memorized the pattern for future reference. "Yes, your Juliet if I recall. I'm glad you like him, although you may want to step back. Fawkes won't bite but he won't stop shouting until you do."

Fawkes had been enjoying his evening. After a nice relaxing day of basking in the sun, the cool air and gentle touch of his master were a perfect ending to a perfect day. His bliss was interrupted by a cream colored wolf who came way too close for comfort. Fawkes fanned is wings a little and ordered the new wolf to step back in low speech. She was too close to his master, not to mention she had interrupted his quiet time.

Hotaru was not one for appearances, nor did she care what other people thought of her. However, she recognized that it was important not to be rude, especially to ones pack mate. Although the blind wolf desperately wished that Juliet would simply leave she at least made one small attempt to be polite. "How have you been Juliet?"

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

She watched carefully as the woman did not turn to greet the young wolf, why was that? She watched her ears and then her hand on the large bird, noting any sign of emotion that the woman was trying to portray. But she got nothing off her, this was all very strange. Her ears then perked when the woman spot to her, noting her name and then talking of the large bird. He did not like others being close? Now that was strange, Grynn acted very different compared to this bird. Neela’s bird was proud and relished in the attention Juliet gave her but this similar looking bird seemed to hate it.

Slowly she moved a few steps away from the blind woman as she watched the hawk fluff out his wings in warning. Nope this was not a stupid pigeon, this bird meant business. ”Why is he so protective?” She first asked, curious eyes looking only at the hawk and his red tail. ”What kind of bird is he, he is different than Grynn. She was a… Peregrine Falcon” She asked yet another question but this time compared him to the only other pt like bird she had met.

The girl moved her eyes from the not so friendly winged creature to his companion, unsure how to take her facing away from her. Tilting her head she notices slight memotions seep through her features but they were very unreadable to Juliet. She never really had someone show discomfort with her presence so she simply ignored the signs. ”I have been okay.. Worried I guess.” She stated, finally telling someone that she was feeling this way, after all where was that boy. He had told her that he would visit, and yet there was no boy here. Plus she left her cloak in his lands and with her mother’s fear of Liam she did not dare go get it herself.

Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

When the cream colored she-wolf took a few steps back, Fawkes quieted down. Other's were dangerous, he knew this. Fawkes had always adored Hotaru, and when she was attacked he felt like he had let her down. The hawk believed it was his fault that Hotaru got hurt because he did not warn his master of her brother and as a result she lost her eye sight. From then on, Fawkes had been careful and made sure that no one got too close to Hotaru without her knowing or her permission. The only exception was Light, he had saved Hotaru so he was okay. Plus Light had fed him. Fawkes turned his attention away from the strange wolf. He nipped gently at Hotaru's hand, his affectionate gesture rewarded with even more petting.

So many questions. Not only did Juliet not leave, but she asked many questions. Hotaru turned her head a little and kept her voice calm and polite. "Fawkes is a red tailed hawk. They are native to the area so if you look you might see one flying around. Although, they can be elusive birds." Hotaru decided to ignore Juliet's first question. The blind wolf was well aware of the reasons why Fawkes was so protective and she didn't want to have to explain such things to a complete stranger.

Hotaru didn't care if Juliet was pack, there was no use in trusting someone she didn't know. Even if she knew Juliet well, Hotaru wouldn't answer the question. Both her brother's betrayal, as well as Cain's had proven to the blind wolf that even those close to you could not be completely trusted. Hotaru always remained on guard, although her guard took the form of a calm and polite wolf who's ears were always up.

Unlike Hotaru, Juliet seemed quite comfortable with talking about herself and her true feelings. "Worry is a part of life, don't dwell on it." Hopefully her small bit of advice would make Juliet leave. The grey wolf wanted to return to her peace and quiet, to her thoughts and plans. Skye wanted to build a boat and Hotaru wanted to think about how such a task might be brought about.

More questions! She is just fasinated now..
WHAT IS IN A NAME?

Juliet watched as the bird finally looked away from her and looked to his owner for affection, man he was different from Grynn. She liked Grynn, such a pretty creature and friendly too. The falcon even wanted to be near her but Neela called her back to make sure Juliet was okay with the bird. She liked the social bird, but this one. He was mean, he did not anyone near the strange wolf and even would screech if she got close. Stupid bird.

The girl listened to the woman’s answer, ignoring her last question would not make her stop asking it. She wanted answers and it was hard to get rid of her if you ignored her questions. So he was a hawk and his name was Fawkes, well that was good to know but she still wanted to know why he was so antisocial. ”Does he not like others?” She asked, aware that the bird obviously did not like her but what about other wolves. Did he like them? ”Fawkes you’re a pretty hawk” She stated, doing the same thing she did to the Falcon. When she commented on her Grynn seemed to like her instantly, maybe Fawkes worked the same way?

She noticed that her short answer about worry was well short, most would ask why she was worried. This wolf was so strange, yet so fascinating since she dodged her questions. With a shrug Juliet sat down in the snow, her body facing the blind wolf. Her arms hugged her knees to her chest as she stared at her companion with curiosity glittering her in eyes. Why did she seem to not like questions, no one had ever denied her answers to her questions.

Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

More questions. Or to be more precise, the same question asked in a different fashion. Juliet seemed intent on prying into business that was not hers. Most would take a hint when Hotaru refused to answer their questions, so this girl was either dumb or... no just dumb. Prying was dumb, especially if you prying into Hotaru's business. She would not talk about her past, she had even abandoned her last name to avoid talking about it. As far as Hotaru was concerned she had no past and thus no reason to explain Fawkes's behavior.

Still Hotaru knew that outright ignoring her single question a second time was the hight of rudeness. Why Juliet was so desperate for answers, Hotaru didn't know nor did she particularly care. "It's not that he doesn't like others, he just doesn't like others getting close to me. He is, as you said earlier, protective. AND, I don't know why." As Hotaru said the overemphasized word, she closed her eyes and did not open them till the lie was finished. It was Hotaru's tell, a little habit that she did when she lied and it was one she couldn't seem to rid herself of completely. On most days, she could hide the tell, but now she was annoyed and wasn't paying attention to her little habit.

Fawkes couldn't help but stare at Juliet when she issued the compliment. Compliments were always an easy way to get on his good side, yet the strange wolf had managed to place herself on his master's bad side. Fawkes looked between Hotaru and Juliet, he wasn't quite sure how to act. On one had, she did call him pretty, but on the other Hotaru didn't seem to like her. Fawkes, unlike many, could easily read Hotaru and her many moods. Fawkes turned his attention back to Juliet, puffing slightly in pride. After all, he should do his best to look pretty if she thought he was. "Pretty wolf," he chirped, showing off his knowledge of high speech.

Fawkes had always been a sucker for compliments or treats and Hotaru knew it. Her mood soured even further when she heard the snow crunch under Juliet's weight. She must have sat down, which meant she wasn't leaving. Hotaru cursed her luck, but gave a small smile as if she was amused by Fawkes's comment. Oh how she wished Juliet would just go away.

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

Finally an answer for the question though it wants the one she hoped for she wanted to know more, she was now very fascinated by this wolf. She acted differently than others, she never looked at her when she spoke nor did she even move. This struck Juliet as odd and she always had a thing for odd. So Fawkes was protective and the woman did not know why, but how can you have a companion and not know why they are protective over you? Her mother and father were protective because she was young and their child, Juliet was protective over Zalen because she loved him. So why was this bird so protective?

Her attention faltered from her friend to the bird again as he puffed out with pride, ah so he was like Grynn. He then spoke and she tilted her head with interest, so he was like the ferret. They bother could talk, well kinda. The creature got a short lived wag out of her as he commented on her appearance. ”Thank you Fawkes but your prettier.” She stated her eyes now dancing with happiness, though she caught a very short lived frown out of the wolf. What was that about?

”Why don’t you look at me, I mean its different than others so I am curious.” She asked with the need to explain her question. She did not ever mean to be rude she just was s blunt that many found it rude. Though most of her pack mates understood why because they had been around her since she was a pup. She just wanted to know why? What that such a bad thing to ask?

Hotaru

OOC:NP

And he was hooked. Such a comment could not have been made by a bad wolf, surely not. Fawkes didn't quite get why Hotaru disliked the chatty wolf. She seemed just fine to him. Fawkes puffed out even more with pride before relaxing his feathers. Unlike wolves, Fawkes was not one to stay up late so his energy was running low. With a click of his beak, he took a few moments to smooth his feather's down before closing his eyes to go to sleep. As the bird relaxed, his feather's pupped out again making his previous attempt to smooth them fruitless.

The questions just never seemed to stop with this one. By now, Hotaru had given up hope that Juliet might go away. With her peace and quiet so thoroughly disturbed she simply resigned herself to Juliet's never ending questions. Hotaru could only hope that once the young wolf's curiosity was satisfied that she would go away.

Hotaru removed her hand when she heard Fawkes click his beak. He wanted to sleep, something she was sure he needed. Fawkes was no owl, nor should he be expected to act like one. Hotaru removed her hand from his breast and placed it into her lap. She turned to face the young wolf, just as she seemed to wish. The grey wolf's eyes stared blankly out into the world, taking in nothing but darkness. "It is very difficult to look at you when I cannot see."

The blind wolf did not take offense to Juliet's direct question. In fact, she preferred such questions (at least when it came to her blindness). Hotaru did not like it when people tried to test her sight. It felt like trickery, which was too close to betrayal. The way Juliet phrased her question was a little weird though. Hotaru couldn't help but wonder if perhaps Juliet did not know she was blind, or if she simply did not understand the disability.

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

The clicks the bird made confused Juliet, she had never heard a bird make such sounds. What did they mean? The girl watched her companion as she moved almost away from the creature, no longer touching him. Again she moved her eyes to Fawkes then she understood, he was going to sleep. She watched as his eyes closed and how his movements completely ceased, So he di not leave the wolf’s side.

Her eyes moved to her companion, the girl’s ears perking lightly at the woman’s words. She could not see, how can she not see? She wanted to move closer but she was afraid, afraid that Fawkes would wake up and his good mood towards her would be ruined. Juliet’s head tilted in confusion as she just stared at the gray woman before her, how could one not see? Was it like having your eyes closed? She just could not understand blind people, she knew that some here blind but being unable to see was just unfathomable.

”Were you born blind? I think I would rather be born blind then you could never miss your sight.” She stated again not trying to be rude, she was thinking about how she would feel to be blind. To never see Lorenzo, her family, or to never see her flowers again. Shaking her head she tried to clear the horrid thoughts of becoming blind and focused on her friend, she hoped for her sake that she was born blind. That would be better, to have never known the look of the world. Better than seeing it and losing it.

Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

There was some part of Hotaru that ignorantly hoped that Juliet would be satisfied with her answers. Hotaru immediately regretted ever answering any of this woman's questions. She wished that she had gone inside the minute Juliet approached her. Juliet's questions were ripping right into the heart of Hotaru's situation and it was a subject the blind woman wanted to avoid at all costs.

This time, Hotaru did not hide her displeasure at receiving the question. Her ear's fattened against her skull, she turned her head away, and the fur on her tail bristled. No, it was not fun to have your eyesight taken away. It was an almost unbearable loss, she would never see the sky or the flowers, her carvings or her children. That was, assuming she ever had children, a possibility Hotaru had already thrown away. The grey wolf often had dreams of being able to see again, of a world full of vibrant color and light. Her elation was as great as her disappointment when her dreams proved false.

"No I wasn't born blind." Hotaru's words were filled with biting resentment. Both for Juliet who was bringing up such painful memories and for the ones who put her here: be them her brother, Cain, or some higher power. Hotaru's teeth were bared slightly as images flashed through her mind. The memories fighting their way to her waking conscious and plaguing her mind. After her outburst, the grey wolf sat quietly while the past worked it's way through her mind and eventually drifted away.

Fawkes woke with a start when Hotaru's curt voice cut through the winter air. There was as much ice in her voice as there was on the ground. His large brown eyes stared up at the grey wolf, and then looked knowingly at Juliet. She must have said something to set his master off and he could guess what the question was about. Fawkes shifted uncomfortably, and he settled back to try and get some sleep.

Lol
WHAT IS IN A NAME?

Her fingers traced along the cold snow, drawing a rough outline of the bird that was sleeping next to the blind companion she was talking to. Her eyes followed her lines only showing a little displeasure in her eyes at how she did not have her paper and pencil; they would be wonderful subject to drawn. The blind one always sat so still that it made her almost uncomfortable to move so much but guess you don’t really need to move much when you could not see. Fawkes would be fun to draw when he was all puffed up making her see his pretty feathers and pretty eyes.

The girl’s vision moved back to the gray wolf, watching as her fur bristled and her ears flattened again her head. What did she say wrong? What did she do wrong? What was wrong? Her head tilted lightly in question though she knew the wolf could not see her movements, how was she going to ask this woman questions when she was always so uptight about it all? What he vision the sore spot or was it the cold?

Her ears lifted in surprise as she listened to her words, she wasn’t born blind. ”I am sorry to hear that, how did you lose it?” She then asked, prying lightly at the information with a monotone voice. ”Are you mad by any chance?” She then asked, curious at the woman’s facial expression. She could read her mother well and even her sister and father but this wolf always turned away when she tried to get a good look at her emotions that played on her face. She hoped she did not cause the discomfort, after all she wasn’t trying to. Her head again tilted as she watched the bird look at her then settle once more into sleep; did he know what was going on? She wanted to ask more questions but found herself suddenly uncomfortable as if she was unwanted here. It was not feeling she was use to never had someone not wanted her near them or at least they did not act like it.

Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

All these questions. Hotaru was getting fed up with Juliet and her prying questions. Now, she had asked about the incident that took Hotaru's eyesight. Didn't she know that was a sore subject? Hadn't Hotaru's behavior made if clear that her questions should stop? That they were making her angry? Yet, the question's kept coming. It was like a never ending waterfall, which Hotaru was sure she would not like because of all the noise it would make. Although, the amount of noise would not be comparable to how much useless chatter Juliet was making.

The blind wolf had half a mind to smack Juliet over the head with her staff, but then she would have a broken staff and where would she be then? Another part of the grey wolf's mind wanted to simply get up and walk away. Her house was right behind her and she was sure Juliet would not follow her into the building. Yet another part of her wanted to scream and yell at Juliet. To chide the prying wolf and to make her leave. The last part, a very small part, wanted to tell Juliet everything. This small part wanted to get it all off her chest and to pour out her wounds onto the strange girl. Hotaru decided to go with the screaming. Or at least telling off, after all, she was not one to scream.

"It was an accident and if you are so sorry than why do you still ask such questions? Do you enjoy tormenting others by asking such personal questions? And of course I am mad. You come here, disturb my peace and quiet and for what? To ask me about such painful things. Well, you have your answers now, I lost my eyesight in an accident so no more questions out of you." Her words were sharp like knives and filled with resentment. Her very form boiled with rage as all of the anger and frustration she felt over the past months was being directed towards the innocent Juliet. It wasn't fair, to take her frustrations out on the innocent girl. But something inside Hotaru had snapped, and like a broken damn all of the emotions she had kept hidden away were flowing forth.

Fawkes, now fully awake, watched as his master took her anger out on the cream colored wolf. He listened to her words and saw all of the lies that were buried beneath them. The red bird unfurled his massive wings and floated down to the snow where he landed between Juliet and Hotaru. This time, he did not speak in high speech but in low speech. His words, loosely translated, meant 'lies." He watched as Hotaru balked, the surprise evident on her face. Still, he continued. Fawkes chided the blind wolf for taking her anger out on Juliet, for saying such hurtful things. Finally, he told her to tell the truth, because after all of the abuse Hotaru had given to Juliet, she deserved to have her question answered. For many minutes they argued in low speech. Hotaru's own words were slurred and difficult to understand, but the basic meaning was evident. Finally Hotaru agreed to tell Juliet the truth. With that decided Fawkes flew into the house, and waited for his master to join him.

With a sad sigh, Hotaru turned her attention back to Juliet. This time her words were soft and filled with pain and remorse. "I'm sorry. That stupid bird was right, I shouldn't have lied and I snapped at you like that. Do you really want to know what happened?" Hotaru was still reluctant to talk about past, but now she owed at least that much to Juliet.

She’s hopeless
WHAT IS IN A NAME?

The girl’s ears fell o her skull as the loudness of the woman’s voice almost hurt her ears, she did not get why she used such volume in her words. What did this mean? She could only remember one instance where she heard such volume and that was at the killing of the little black pup, everyone loudly called Liam a murderer then. What did volume mean in your words, she only though volume was to be used when calling someone or when someone was far away from you not so close as this.

T

he woman gave her an on slaughter of questions, all she did not know how to answer. How did she make her mad, she did not enjoy making others this way. Why would she ask such odd questions, Juliet only asked questions she knew could be answered not ones that were so odd she could not guess the answer. She asked how it happened and it seemed to hurt the woman, she was sorry because it happened. She asked to know how to understand but why did it hurt the woman so much? For some reason the girl felt very uncomfortable around the blind wolf, her words made her feel weird. She did not know the woman’s tone she never understood them but for some reason she felt like she really needed to leave.

Her eyes held an almost sadness to them as she watch the woman act rather strongly and decided not to ask was what wrong. She was afraid to make the woman act worse, what was wrong with her? Her eyes then traveled to the pretty bird that cut off Hotaru’s path to Juliet, he began to talk to her and she just looked at the two with confusion in her eyes. What was going on now? The two talked their voices strange but she just shook of the feeling and tightened her grip around her knees. What were they talking about, what was going on? She wanted to ask more and more questions, she wanted to know everything.

The conversation stopped and her eyes watched as Fawkes flew into the house of theirs, then returned to the blind woman that seemed to be acting normal once again. She started talking again and seemed to say the words I am sorry and talked about snapping. She snapped? She then asked one more question, if she really wanted to know how she was blinded. The girl nodded but spoke in her emotionless tone, ”I would like to know. Is it okay to know?” She then asked a question, her last question to the woman. For some reason she felt the need to ask for permission to ask though she did not know why so she just did. She really wanted to know if it was okay to know the story.

Hotaru
Sometimes the light that guides us along our paths, is not something that we can see, but something deep inside of us.

Once again Juliet spoke in a monotone voice. And once again she asked a stupid question. So many questions and all of them made Hotaru boil with rage. She didn't want to have to explain herself or her situation to this stupid girl, nor did she want to even think about such things. Hotaru thought she had made her feelings on the matter very clear yet here Juliet was asking if it was "okay." No it wasn't okay. Hotaru was about ready to grab her staff from inside the house and smack Juliet over the head with it. Her fingers flexed as the temptation roared through her body. In the end she didn't do it. Fawkes was right, she was just using this girl as a scapegoat and she needed to act civil.

With a deep sigh Hotaru began to speak. Her words were hushed and quiet. She didn't want other people to overhear what she was saying. "Okay, I'll tell you. But there are a few rules. First rule: NO MORE QUESTIONS. Second rule: I'm not repeating anything I say so don't ask. Third rule: No more questions, I'm serious. The final rule: you can't tell anyone. This is a private matter and your lucky I'm even discussing it with you." Hotaru didn't really trust Juliet not to say anything so she put extra emphasis on the last rule. Even Shawchert didn't know her full story, he just knew about Cain and only because he had been their to witness the nomad abandon her. Hotaru felt the other's had too much pity for her and hearing the story would only increase their feelings.

Now that she had laid down some ground rules the blind wolf was ready to begin her story. Hotaru started with her family. She spoke of the Kido pack just west of Nova Scotia. It was only a few days walk to the area where she had grown up. There her family had lived there for decades, since the end of humanity and perhaps even before that. She spoke of her twin brother Adrian and how she loved him more than anything else. With Adrain by her side the two of them created beautiful works of art. Hotaru had a talent for crafting and her uncle taught her how to carve while Adrian had a talent for music so their grandmother taught him how to sing and play various instruments. Hotaru spoke with a lot of love and a deep longing. She missed her family and she missed the brother she had once loved so much. She was both happy and sad to be talking about them and her mixed feeling showed in her words and posture.

With the explanation of her family out of the way Hotaru turned to the events leading up to her loss of vision. She spoke of a neighboring pack, one that was smaller than her own and had just gone through a shift in power. Despite it's smaller size the pack still dared to try and take their lands. This started a war, one that Hotaru was sure her pack would win. They had many battles, but most Hotaru did not participate in directly. Instead she had carved the bows and hilts for swords. She had fletched their arrows and stitched their wounds. It was only during the last battle that Hotaru had decided to join in. She had learned to use a staff and spear and both she had carved herself. Both sides had suffered casualties but the opposing side was in worse shape. The Kido pack firmly believed that by the end of the battle the war would be over and sadly they were right.

The battle hadn't even started when screaming broke out. Hotaru had turned to see her brother fell his own father with a sword. Hotaru explained how stunned she was that her own brother would betray the pack. As her father fell she had heard war cries coming from the rival pack and had turned to face them. It was then that Hotaru had felt a sharp blow to the back of her head and she had passed out before hitting the floor.

"By the time I woke up everyone was dead and my vision was gone. According to a nomad that found me I was the only survivor from my family while the other pack had moved onto our lands. They must of thought I was dead, it was the only explanation as to why they left me alive. That is my story, are you satisfied now?" By the time her story was done, silent tears were dripping down her face. Somehow, they made her feel better. Hotaru had made the decision to leave out Cain and his betrayal. It wasn't relevant to the story she was telling and she didn't want to have to deal with those feelings as well.
