Mordecai is near the borders, but not too close to cause alarm. :] Backdate it to November 23? Ohlookythere, a Border Tree!

Word Count → 470

The days got colder. The nights grew longer. And Mordecai absolutely loved it.

At first, his impression was that he would give hate to the rumored bitter winds and sweeping gales of the north. After being born and raise to live off of the heat, he did find the coming months uncomfortable. But he did not predict the snow. Oh, the snow! How he loved it!

The south, too warm to hold such luxuries besides on rare occasions, had lied to the boy what its sister direction held. He had awakened the day, like any other. But, something was different, and sensed some change in things before he stepped outside of his den. To his pleasant surprise, everything was covered in a white plush that crunched under his paws. At first, he was fearful—what has come to this world, what had fallen from the sky?!—like a puppy experiencing his first thunderstorm. Soon enough, he was frolicking in the downy flakes, a youngster dancing in the rain.

The boy wanted to see how his surroundings had change even further, and went southeast from the Dampwoods in the early morning. By late afternoon, he was still taking a gander at the winter beauty, trotting at an impatient pace to get more eyefuls of the scene. He paused all a sudden for a moment and an idea came upon him. His paws had gotten rather chilled by the snow, all four of them. But, what if he had only two paws to worry about?

After wiggling out of his bandanna and laid it carefully on the ground, he focused on the familiar pull inside of him, and began the transformation. He rarely visited this form, but he enjoyed the sparse times he did. As paws became hands and fur into hair, he stood upright on his hind legs and brushed his body to clear any snow that clung to them. He grabbed the bandanna again, now tying the cloth around his head so that his curly locks and ringlets were out of his green eyes. He then continued, without a change in his demeanor, as his half skipped half walked onward on his path.

It was sooner than later that he came upon another pack’s territory—the first was the knightly clan, though he avoided that with much care. These borders he had never seen before, but what stopped him was not the scent markers. From afar, he saw a tree, again, not what made him pause. What was on the tree—splashes of unusual color, figures of wood hanging in the branches, and canvases sporting various shapes—surprised him. The boy stood there for a moment, just staring and taking in as much of the colorful tree as he could. This was a site that Mordecai had never seen before.

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

Night, dark and cold. She did not understand why the dark nights got longer and her beloved sun faded away faster. She did not understand it and nor did she really like it, first the winter came and took away her flowers and now it was taking away her sun too! Stupid winter, boring white canvas. A soft smirk came to her face as today she had found some strange berries that grew on some of the pine needle trees, her hands were now covered in a soft color of purply blue.

Naturally she had been playing with this new form of paint, first she tried to eat the berries but their taste was repulsive and caused her to spit them out. Then she added water to the mashed berries and fond it was almost as good as paint, though it faded quickly almost like her mother said Dye would on walls. She then found that she could use the strange paint mixture she created into art on the snow, sure any form of hot liquid made the snow vanished and make designs but this left the browned grass with a soft tint of purple.

She would surely be giggling if she was a normal girl, but her cold expression stayed as she enjoyed making the snow her canvas. It had some use after all! The girl finally ventured away from her home and came to the border tree, her eyes glittering with happiness when she saw her colored picture of the flower field pinned to the old tree. Her mother shouldn’t have, but Orin knew Juliet loved to show off her art so naturally she would have done this. Shaking her head she then brought her paintbrush out, dipping it in the weird liquid she created, slowly she moved the brush along the cold snow and tinted the top layer a dark indigo.

She wrote her pack’s name is an almost calligraphy looking font, moving a few yards away to see ifh er large lettering could be seen. Further and further she stepped backward, happy that the letters were almost easy to see. Her eyes finally left the words only to find herself face to face with a black wolf. Her ears shot up in surprise though her expression remained just as cold as always. ”Oh hi, I did not see you there. Who are you?” She asked and stated, stepping a few inches away from the stranger wondering who this newcomer was.

Lol, Mordy is so intimidated by someone so much smaller than him. xD

Word Count → 506

The whole tree was a grand thing to look at. He would have probably kept looking at the splendid sight, if not he scented on of the pack’s wolves approaching. Mordecai felt his ears flip down automatically, showing that he was submissive to whoever was coming near. But, as he caught sight of who it was, he realized that she was not looking at him, but at the tree as well. He could not blame him for not taking notice of him yet; perhaps she had seen this tree millions of times, but there was always something that he did not see that he had yet to lay eyes on, or at least that was the case for him. He took a glance at what she was staring at, seeing a window into a place that told of colorful spring days while the world around it was cold and drab. The boy now felt himself missing the warmer months, but wishing would not bring them around faster.

Before him, the girl began to write with some purple stuff—who knows what it was—in the snow. He watched her use a stick with a bristly bottom in order to smooth the liquid onto the ground. Why isn’t she using her hands? he inquired to himself, but he did not ask aloud, at least not yet. Once she was done, the letters were facing him at an awkward angle, but he was smart enough to come to a conclusion that it matched the name he saw on the tree a couple of times: Cercatori d’Arte. Maybe that was what the place was called? It looked like a pretty name, though he was unsure how to pronounce the foreign words.

Mordecai was too busy admiring the words to notice that the girl was backing up, checking over her work like he was. It was not until she spoke did he look up, and got a good look at her face. He was pulled up short; she was quite beautiful, like the flowers on the painting she was looking at moments before. But, the expression she had muddled her pretty features, also giving the boy the impression that he was in trouble, though her words did not seem to intend hostility. Like any other awkward teen, he stared down at his feet for a moment, and then looked back up at the girl once he found words to speak.

“I’m Mordecai. Mordecai de Fonte. I was just passing by, and I saw this remarkable tree, and I could not help but stop and look at it.” As he spoke, he took another chance to look away from the hard-faced wolf to gaze at the decorated tree once more, but returned his green eyes back to her blues eventually. He was taught with manners, and manners were to look at the person you were talking to. He then remembered the liquid stuff she wrote with, and could not help but ask, “Hey, what’s the purple stuff? It looks pretty neat.”

PURPLE TOES!! Oh also Jules does not show emotions in her word just with her eyes and actions (though only slightly, her eyes are your best bet to see her feelings)
WHAT IS IN A NAME?

He asked like all the newcomers did, staring away from her expressionless face and down at his feet. She never understood the notion but she was so use to it not it rarely phased her enough to asked questions about it. She would smile if she could but instead she just looked at his rather pretty green eyes, they reminded her of Lorenzo’s one green eye though his was more of a dark green compared to the stranger’s eyes. Her eyes sparkled to show a smile, showing she was no thread and her ears mimicked his for a few seconds.

”My name is Juliet Moonsong.” She stated, like she had many times over to well everyone new. He spoke of the art decorated tree, admiring its pretty decorations. ”Oh that the border tree, all the art on it was made by members of my pack. I drew and colored the one that looks like a flower field.” She spoke in monotone though her tail gave a soft sway to show a glimpse of her happiness. ”Oh the pack’s name is Cercatori d’Arte, if you wanted to know. It’s a pack for artists, craftsmen, and musicians and stuff..” She spoke again, the pack name rolling off her tongue like she had rehearsed it several times over.

Her mind then went to the purplish liquid in the glass jar that she held in her right hand, what was this stuff? ”Oh I made it, it’s a mixture of those weird white berries on the needle trees and water. Don’t eat those things though, they are horrible” She explained and warned so that he would not make the same mistake, her and held out the jar for him to take. Though she dropped the paintbrush, watching it paint her toes as it hit the ground. Her eyes moved back to the black boy like nothing ever happened, a smile in her eyes.

Juliet.

The name was lovely, suited for a girl like her. Her last name seemed vaguely familiar, but his mind did not dwell on the thought for long though. He looked back at the tree again when she spoke of the painting, though this time not to avoid her gaze, which now spoke silently of a smile, but to take another look at what he knew now was her another piece of her work. “It’s as if one is looking into the future, to the coming spring,” he commented, looking back to Juliet. He saw paintings once before, a brief encounter at that, but it was not as pretty as the one she made; it was of some human that reminded him of a pig, and his mind tried to wander off think about the horrid thing, but the girl’s words kept him at attention.

“Ce-Cecatori d’Arte,” he murmured, his own tongue attempting to master the alien words. “That’s the name you wrote in the snow.” Of course, this was a guess at heart; he knew how to read, but he was a shabby one at that. She must have been a fantastic reader, from the way she wrote so neatly, another piece of art work in its self. He enviously wished he could write as neat as her, but he never did put forth much time in things that reminded him of humans.

“Oh, I know what berries you are talking about,” he interjected, his tail wagging now that he was fully comfortable in the girl’s presence. “Well, your warning is a little late, though. I tried eating a whole mouthful of them before, I think a month ago. They weren’t very… ah, good.” He remembered the killer stomachache he received because of the berries, and could not help but let out a short chuckle at that memory. But, as soon as he said the words, he wished that he did not let them spill; what if she thought of him as some foolish wolf that ate everything that came across him? Now embarrassed without a real reason, he bit down on his lower lip, as if the action would keep his tongue from saying anything that would go against him.

He took to the offer of the jar, his hands out to grab for it. But, before he could take it, he noticed the stick that she used earlier fall out of her hands. He met her gaze as she too looked away from the brush, unsure of what to do for a moment and became silent; she acted the stick did not fall, should he act like so too? What if she did not quite notice she dropped it? “Here you go,” Mordecai spoke meekly as he picked the tool from the ground, holding it out for the girl to take. He felt even more self-conscious as before, and placed the hand he used to pick up the stick on his head, unknowingly smearing some of the purple paint on his bandana.

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

Looking into the future to her beloved month, now that was a very different way to look at it. She drew it to remind her that the flowers will come back but a window to them was her favorite description. She found herself looking back at the tree, wanting to make the picture she drew a reality. God when did spring come back again, she just could not wait she wanted her flowers now. Her hand fluttered to her hair, feeling the silky ribbons before nodding when he sated what she wrote.

”Yep, I wrote the packs name. I could not think of anything to draw so I just wrote the name.” Her voice stayed monotone though her eyes wandered back to her companion with curiousity, was it reall that hard to say her pack’s name? She wasn’t even that good when it came to writing a lot but when she wrote her name or a few words she could make them look rather pretty. Giving her mind a mental shrug she focused back on Mordecai.

”You didn’t spit them out, I couldn’t swallow them.” She asked and then stated, shivering at her memory of how the berries tasted. God they were awful, but I guess if you were hungry enough you could get them down. She then looked back at the brush, it had stained her toes a dark purple. Would that come out? God she hoped so though if it didn’t at least it wasn’t a horrid color. Like.. She could not think of a bad color. ”Thank you” She stated, taking the brush only to see the paint brush his bandana. ”You have movre color on your cloth now” She said, if emotions came through they would have been humor but instead they remained emotionless as she just pointed at his bandana.

Oh God, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist making a complete twit out of Mordy. xD Here's Mordecai's little drawing for reference.

Word Count → 615

He guessed that Juliet’s favorite time was the spring, since it looked like she took the time to paint the flowers. His own personal preferred season was most likely the fall, especially the one he experienced back home in the south. After suffering in the heat, the wind would let out a sigh of relaxation, its breath churning the leaves and cooling everything that had been touched by the sun. But, it never got too chilly, not enough to hide in a den while the harsh breezes blew. It was almost like a medium, a pause between two contrasting seasons. Yet, as was the spring, and it was as colorful as the fall, and Mordecai guessed he liked the spring as much as Juliet did without realizing it.

“Well, I did not taste them when I ate them,” he murmured meekly, and felt more stupid as the seconds went by. “I just saw them… And I decided to eat them, so I didn’t give much thought to how they may have tasted.” To be honest, he was slightly starving when he spotted the berries; hunting was not as good that day he saw them, and he could not help himself but take a bite without giving a second thought. Food was food. It was by luck they were not poisonous, but it was a lesson learned nonetheless. He did not want to give this excuse to Juliet, though, since he did not want to been seen as a fool and a poor hunter.

He blinked in confusion as the girl pointed at his bandana, and reached up with his clean hand to pat around it, to see what she was talking about. When he pulled back his paw, it was slightly covered in purple liquid—the berry paint. “Oh…! Well, I-I meant to do that!” he said, obviously lying through his teeth. “I, um, wanted it to look like your’s!” Mordecai pointed back to Juliet’s own garment, her ribbon, which looked slightly like the paint they were handling. Of course, this was an excuse for his foolishness, but he saw it as a good cover.

“Ah, anyway, I want to paint,” he stated as quickly as possible, grabbing the paint jar before he could make himself look more like an idiot. He dipped an index finger into the jar, not really caring if it would stain—his fur would be too dark for it to really show—and began to scribble nonsense into the the snow to test it out. At one point, he tried to draw a flower, but then scratched it out with more paint as he was displeased by its appearance. He paused for a moment, his finger raised slightly about the snow. He realized that he did not quite know what he wanted to draw. He thought it over for a moment, taking a glance around as he did. When he looked at Juliet, he formed an idea, and suddenly began to finger paint a figure.

With wobbly lines and much smeared droplets of paint, he drew his masterpiece. The shape had a head, with wiry limbs, only the hands having fingers while the supposed feet were stubs. After giving the thing a tail, and scrawled his name under it, accidently forgetting the “r” in Mordecai. “I drew you!” he exclaimed, as if he was proud to have drawn it, when he thought he was done, and added the girl’s name to indicate that the messy drawing was truly her. But, he frowned, as if he noticed something was missing. He dipped his finger once more into the jar, and drew one simple line. A smile upon the drawing’s face. ”Finished!”

Ahahaha and I love it! And no… I did not put it on her profile *shifty eyes* :3
WHAT IS IN A NAME?

He told her he did not taste the berries and she let it slid without her normal rain of questions, she did not like this topic. It just made her remember the taste of the berries, awful and very distasteful. She shivered lightly but not out of the cold, no she shook lightly because she could taste the berries again. Yuck! They were so horrible to eat but at least they made a pretty paint. Her attention when back to her dark colored friend, a soft smile twinkling in her eyes as he looked at the glass jar.

She would have giggled had she been a normal girl with his comment of wanting the piece of cloth to look like her magenta ribbons. Her fingers simple fluttered to the silky stings to acknowledge what he was saying and to make sure they were still there, today was her first time testing out the ribbons. Thinking that during the winter they were a suitable replacement for her beloved flowers, they made her vibrant hair more colorful without dying it like she had with her mother’s blonde locks. ”Well it looks nice.” She stated, lightly bringing her fingers to touch the cloth before her dropped down to the snow to draw on its glittering white surface.

”What are you going to draw? Flowers? I love flowers.” her voice remained in its normal state of no emotion as her eyes sparkled with excitement. She really did love her flowers, missing them more than anyone could imagine. When her flowers that Lorenzo gave her died she felt part of her heart die with them. They were not only the last thing she had of the large boy but they were her last window to the colors of spring. She wanted them back though she nearly gasped when he squiggled over his flower drawing, wanting to see more of it before it was erased in the malleable canvas.

She watched as he did a poor rendition of her though she did not feel like criticizing it because she found the gesture rather sweet. He tried to draw her; no one had ever done that. She found herself finding this man an instant friend, giving him a small wag as a reward of making her happy. Her eyes sparkled as she moved to look at it better, it was not that good but she adored this picture and wished it was on paper and not something like snow.

”I love it.” She stated, though her voice showed none of her love. Instead she looked at him and let her eyes do her talking. Showing the love of her drawing and happiness that it was of her. ”No one has ever given me a picture before.” She told him truthfully, stupid snow would melt and take her picture away.
