Facing your inner demons

Watch out, she might growl.

Lá Saoire Na Mairbh, a day to reflect on ones actions and past sins. It was a somber day in Ichika as all of it's member sought to redeem themselves and to cleanse their spirit. As Kiara walked, she tried to think of all her past sins. The snowy female thought of how she threatened Shiloh and how she growled at Noah. During those times Kiara had been delusional with a fever and frightened out of her mind. So did that make it right? Was she forgiven? Kiara couldn't be sure.

As Kiara approached the border line she began to wonder why she was even doing this. Kiara didn't want to ever step out of the Ichikan boarders again. She didn't want to see Amy or any other luperci that might be out there. But the snow wolf was still having nightmares, she was still scared. Every time Kiara saw something move out of the corner of her eye, she envisioned Amy and her terrible knife. With nervous and hesitant steps the arctic wolf stepped beyond the line of withered plants and out into the neutral territories.

Her breath came in shallow bursts and her sapphire eyes darted around. Her ears and nose worked over time, trying to pick up even the slightest hints of danger. The snow crunched beneath Kiara's paws as she traveled through the mountains, and the cold bit into her scars numbing the tissue so that it no longer hurt. Lá Saoire Na Mairbh was about facing ones inner demons, and Kiara's fears were her biggest demons.

It's finnne <3. You got one of her longest post ever ;u;.

Finding her way back down to ground level had been a tough job, and Insomnia was certainly proud of herself. Adventurous as she was, high altitude was not her thing and neither was terrain which wasn't flat or easy to walk on. She was making a habit of ignoring his natural instinct these days. As a result of all the difficulties of keeping herself upright and not rolling down a hill, the female had found herself fairly exhausted, and so the grass on her toes felt like kisses from above. With a sense of victory, as though she had just conquered the mountains, she continued to strut, gaining back her energy at a pace comparable to a tortoise.
Light was beginning to filter out from above and illuminate the way, which would do wonders in helping her get home later on. With all her luck, Insomnia had found herself struggling to see on the nearby smaller mountains. The contrast between then and now was amazing - it was like the heavens had breathed some power into her, inflated her soul with gold; she could do everything now, from walking straight to seeing clearly. Up ahead, a faint movement caught her eye from the taller grasses. Now she had seen the other wolf, he focused on confirming with her nose before making her way towards the stranger.

Coming to the snow white she-wolf, consequent to abseiling into the valley, all her stamina began to fizzle away, slowing her gait. "H-Hello," she greeted her with a friendly and light voice, feebly sitting down a short distance away. The muscles under every inch of her skin sighed in relief, most notably her legs, as she let her body slide down. Through the blades of the grass she looked closely at the girl - her fur was a refreshing shade of pure white, unlike most colorless wolves, who had at least some gray or tan on their body. Contrasting the dull and subtle shades of her coat were a pair of vibrant, Sapphire eyes. She looked afraid of almost everything which concerned her greatly. She wondered what could be bothering her, so she could try to help in anyway possible. "Hope you don't mind. My name's Insomnia," she offered, pleasant, accompanied with a friendly smile that she usually gave to all wolves.

From above came the smell of another wolf as well as the sound of approaching footsteps. Kiara froze, her eyes darting to and fro trying to find the source. Her ears were flicked back and her tail was slightly extended. A young female wolf walked down the mountain and approached Kiara, her voice happy and her gait slow. The snow wolf's sapphire eyes widened as every bone in her body screamed for her to run. It was another stranger, one Kiara would have been happy to see just a few weeks ago, but not anymore. Kiara was scared of the approaching stranger. Her sweet words and kind smile did nothing to ease Kiara's fears.

The closer the light brown wolf came, the more anxious Kiara became. The arctic wolf crouched low and her ears were pressed flat against her head, and her lips pulled back to reveal a nasty set of teeth. Her tongue pressed between her top and lower incisors and a warning growl issued from her lips. The meaning of her warning was easy enough to understand, "don't come close." The scars on Kiara's body only added to her frightening appearance, giving her a wild look. But despite the alabaster woman's frightening appearance, her fluffy tail was tucked firmly between her back legs, giving away just how scared Kiara actually was.

Even after insomnia introduced herself, talking calmly and politely, the snow wolf was unable to fully relax. Although she had stopped growling and her gums relaxed a little, the snow wolf still flashed her fangs. She wasn't going to take any chances. Amy had seemed friendly as well, until she showed that terrible knife. For a while Kiara pondered whether or not she should speak to Insomnia. She wanted to run away, to return to the safety of Ichika a soon as possible. Kiara watched the stranger, uncertain of how to act. Finally she said in a small voice, "Kiara...hi."

She blinked, her widened multi-colored eyes capturing her gaze just as her own eyes captured her. And for a moment, the two were locked in a staring silence, simply content to look.

Accordingly her cranium lifted from its alignment with the spine and soared to the heavens much as a seeing wolf may do to gain a better glance of what was in the distance. Of course, her purpose was not to gain a better glance. Instead she allowed a new level of sounds and aromas to reach her and with the bombardment she sorted and analyzed as she was so accustomed to doing. Ample striding brought him closer and closer to her desired location and within what seemed like moments she had slaughtered the distance that kept them so far apart and had broken the barrier between light and shadow. Insomnia fixated forward in mimic of the eyes and as nares pulled in the female’s scent to commit it to memory as she began to allow the brushstrokes of his mind to paint a picture of their encounter. She allowed a moment to pass before jaws parted, chords contracted harshly and from the depths erupted forth a rugged, but soothingly tranquil chorus "What is wrong? Have I done something wrong..I can leave if you want me to."

A hint of a frown perked at the corner of the ebon lip as the words, which took their time to reverberate off across the surroundings faded into the sunlit area with an icy finish. She remained still, as to give his new company an assurance that she was not to spring any sort of surprise, though she could not help the brash intimidation her stature often exuded. Patiently she awaited a response, if one was indeed to come. She was unfamiliar to a frightful reaction and therefore had been left alone in silence many a time as her company fled the scene, praying her dysfunction would leave her disabled enough to not follow suit. How wrong those poor souls were. Never the less, she was determined to not follow suit any longer and refrain from her happy- go lucky personality and go submissive. She got on her stomach and her ears went back onto her skull. "I just want to be a friend." she said with sorrow in her voice.

Ohh, you managed to bring out dominant Kiara well done.

Their eyes locked. Kiara stared into Insomnia's multi-colored orbs and wondered if her response to the stranger was reasonable. No it wasn't. Kiara was doing exactly what Shiloh had warned her against, she was living her life in fear. The snow wolf had come back to the mountains in an attempt to conquer her fear yet she was letting it run her mind and body. This stranger was not Amy. She did not have knives or that wicked smile, she had feathers and a gentle smile. It took a lot of effort, but Kiara closed her mouth and let her body relax. The snowy ears, which had been pressed against her head now dropped out to the sides. Kiara was still nervous, no matter how hard she tried her tail would not come out from between her legs.

Insomnia's words were gentle and they made Kiara feel extremely guilty. She had treated Insomnia so badly when there was no reason to. Was that entirely true? Who knows what Insomnia is thinking, she could be like Amy and trying to trick Kiara behind a gentle facade. She could be dangerous and in Kiara's weakened state she was helpless and unable to defend against possible attacks. What if Insomnia attacked her? The snow wolf eyed Insomnia, not quite sure whether she should be suspicious or not. It would be best to keep her distance. That way, they could talk a little but if Insomnia was going to turn on Kiara she could still get away with no trouble. That being said, Kiara smiled.

"Um, no. You didn't do anything wrong so you don't have to leave. You... you just scared me is all, just a little surprised." The snow wolf was a little surprised at Insomnia's desire for a friend. Could Kiara trust anyone so easily again? Could she become the friend Insomnia wanted? Kiara watched as Insomnia took a submissive position, one Kiara reacted well to. This she could understand. Words meant nothing because they could be coated in lies. But actions were definite, they could not faked or changed. Insomnia was being submissive therefore Kiara's instincts drove her to take the dominant role. It was not a role Kiara often took, her gentle nature making the arctic wolf more inclined to submission. But for a wolf such as herself, these displays were important and often overlooked in luperci society.

Now Kiara was completely relaxed, she had returned to her comfort zone. Her fully tail and snowy ears rose, and Kiara carefully approached Insomnia. She held her head high, and watched for any signs of aggression or assertion. If Insomnia challenged her dominant position Kiara would submit wholeheartedly and back off a few paces. If Insomnia accepted the display, Kiara would continue to advance until their noses could touch and they could smell each other.

:3 I did good?

The dark female wiggled foward, liking the feel of the grass as it tickled her cheek, stretching out her long, lean legs and letting her dark tail sweep the ground behind her. Insomnia's spine arched like a cat as she stretched, closing her acid green eyes blissfully as she sighed in contentment, rolling onto her back than belly and not noticing the other female was coming forward until she made herself known. "Um, no. You didn't do anything wrong so you don't have to leave. You... you just scared me is all, just a little surprised." Her words startled her, and she immediately tucked her tail in between her legs again and waddled towards her again.Through the mist, Insomnia saw something in those eyes of hers, some emotion, but couldn't quite place it. The pristine white female stepped forward, and Insomnia wondered why - was she trying to threaten her? Sniffing the air cautiously, Insomniathought not. She did not smell like she had ill intent on her mind, and despite her step forward, the step did not seem one meant to intimidate.
It clicked together as they got close enough to see each other. She had relaxed. She smiled up at her and started to wag her tail slowly. "I won't hurt you, I couldn't hurt a fly. And if I wanted to, I wouldn't." She looked down and saw a flower and picked it with her teeth and grinned. She thought she probably looked like a fool, but she didn't care. Kiara seemed to be a nice person under her scared and aggressive personality.

Kiara approached cautiously while Insomnia was rolling on the ground. The strange female was far more relaxed then her, with her belly showing. Kiara couldn't help but think that just a few weeks ago she was like this as well. Willing to show her belly to anyone and her happy-go-lucky nature that dominated her personality. Now Kiara was suspicious, afraid, and untrusting. But Insomnia's good nature was infectious, her sweet words and gentle smile made Kiara feel very relaxed.

With Insomnia so close to her, Kiara took her time investigating Insomnia's scent. She smelled a little of pack, leaving the snow wolf to wonder which pack she belonged to. There were two, no three other packs in the area. Two of which, Kiara knew were not friendly and of those, one would kill the non-luperci on site. However, the third pack was new and from what the arctic wolf had heard, was very different. This new pack had taken the time to extend a friendly hand in greeting and was supposed to lie in the north. Was Insomnia from this pack?

Kiara listened to Insomnia's kind and gentle words. They reassured her, and told her that Insomnia had no intentions of harming Kiara. Soon, her own tail was wagging and a smile had spread across Kiara's face. Insomnia's puppy like antics were refreshing. Under normal circumstances, the snow wolf would have initiated play time, but her injuries prevented such boisterous behavior. So instead Kiara decided to lie down next to Insomnia and let her tail pound on the hard ground. "I guess you wont. Sorry for acting that way earlier. I came across a very unfriendly dog not to long ago that was not to far from here, and well... you can see what happened." The arctic wolf inclined her head a little, her nose pointing towards the scar on her belly. To affirm her words, Kiara began to lick and mouth Insomnia's muzzle. The licking was to say sorry, and the mouthing was a more dominant form of a friendly greeting. For one reason or another, Kiara felt very dominant towards Insomnia. A feeling that really surprised the mid-ranking wolf.

The sky was stained purple, a deep looming color that presented itself with a foreboding sense of power. The night had come, and had come fast, eating away the final tendrils of light and replacing them only with the weak glimmering of starlight. Thick, blossoming clouds of black and soot obscured the cool blue light of the moon, plunging the valley below into an eerie midnight, a sultry ebony that curled so lovingly around every branch and bush and rock. She could feel midnight's gentle coo, a luscious whisper of a distant lover that tickled her ears. Shadows wrapped dangerously around her paws, taking the shape of hungry mouths with dozens of sharp teeth .. nibbling gently upon her tender, mortal skin. Oh, if only she too were as immortal, as sensual, as the shadows.

She smiled up at Kiara through the dark haze, pushing aside the shadows like thick, oily smoke. Of course, these tendrils and teeth were not visible to those of a lesser mental standing than herself (for she often hallucinated such bizarre things without sleep in his system), but to her .. they were present, real, and shockingly cold. The dull murmur of dying shadow monsters was prevalent in his ears, their cries whispering of his abandonment, of their intents to eat her alive. Their teeth .. they wanted to peel her flesh away from his muscle, to eat her piece by piece until she was nothing but a skeleton rotting in a sunken, shallow grave of dirt and blood. This, this the shadows whispered to her, coiling around her ankles like giant constrictor snakes as she made his way through the darkness to sit in front of the female and touched her nose to her own.

How many , she wondered, drifting through the shadows and pulling himself as if he were walking through quicksand, how many have these wolves devoured her skin? There was no fear in her glimmering eyes, only intent and burning curiosity. She could feel the cold ground on her paws, and she wagged her tail. Will I die tonight? She was not sure .. her pupils beyond dilated as her exhausted state caused her mind to drift even further into mental delirium. Perhaps if I die, I will re-incarnate as a shadow. The obscure thought passed into her mind for merely a moment, causing her to smile something wicked and insanely devious. If he could be a shadow .. oh how much fun she'd have! She almost welcomed the teeth as they bit him, still harder .. and she waited for the blood.

She cast her bright gaze into the distance, staring into the shadow .. staring at a figure that had suddenly appeared there, though she had forgotten Kiara for just a moment, it seemed like forever in her messed up mind. The sound of Kiara's voice sounded desperately into the blackness; the snakes around her legs perked their heads and hissed with delight. They wanted to eat Insomnia's words and then his body and then her soul. They began to slither away from her, leaving her legs bloodied (of course, not in reality) and scabbing as they disappeared into the black mist, searching for their new meal. Thus though, had only been in her mind as her tired state had made her insane in her mind, but okay to talk to Kiara. She could not help but sigh, lifting her paw to stare at the wound that only her mind had imagined before sniffing the wound on Kiara. "How did that happen? Are you okay? Who hurt you?!" her voice went harsh, in fear. She had never heard of another wolf hurting another. The thought frightened her.

OOC here!

Word Count → 000

Slowly but surely the sky had gone dark and the night's gentle embrace fell over the lands. Nighttime didn't really scare Kiara, after all it was easy enough to navigate through. On dark nights if one did not rely on their eyes they could walk through the forests almost unscathed. A wolf's nose and their sense of hearing were superb. Even in the dark all Kiara had to do was trace her scent trail back to Ichika no Ho-en and she would be home free. One sensation the night always allowed was the sensation of safety. Kiara was safe in the dark, or at least true darkness. Her brilliant white coat would stand out and be easy to spot when the moon was out, but true darkness hid her and kept her safe.

For a few brief moments, Kiara turned her eyes to the purple sky and watched as the last tendrils of light disappeared. The sunset was beautiful, the reds and purples accenting each other wonderfully. The soft glow of the clouds slowly faded, their massive bodies obscuring the moon. Kiara's mother would surely have a story for this, but her words escaped the snow wolf at the moment. It was something about the clouds eating the moon that was really a wolf. It was a strange story, as were most of her mothers stories. Kiara wondered half the time if she had just made them up, along with the Great Mother.

Thanks to the darkness, the snow wolf didn't even notice Insomnia's strange behavior. If she had she would have run off. Kiara had, had enough of strange wolves and one more would have only freaked her out. What Kiara did notice was Insomnia's large pause. It took a while for her to speak again and Kaira wondered if she should have not mention anything about her attack. Perhaps Insomnia thought little of her, or perhaps Insomnia thought she was a pushover. Thankfully, none of these things seemed true. Insomnia's worried voice travled through the darkness. There was also a note of fear in it. Well, it was only right. Amy was scary after all.

"It was a yellow dog named Amy. She just attacked me out of the blue. I don't know why, but it was awful. I was hurt really badly, but I'm okay now. My pack was there for me. Just be careful if you ever see Amy. I know I'm running for the den if I ever catch wind of her again."

Insomnia’s multi-colored-kissed eyes were moist; small droplets of water clung to the tips of her lashes, reflecting the moonlight. It would be alright. She did not know if it was the truth, but she had to believe. With Insomnia’s ears tucked back, she spoke softly: “I-I-i'm sorry K-Kiara. No one should of ever hurt you.” She was right. Regardless if they were dead or alive, unless they were pure evil, no one should ever get hurt for no good reason.

They sat in the night’s silence; their scents mingling. It was a time of no words, just feelings. For once in a very long time, two of the females sat together, under the same stars and in the same lands that had welcomed them. Insomnia thought of the future and the past, content at her friend staring up at the stars in the incredible sky. She could hear the sound of the raccoons and mice racing across the forest floor, the occasional thump as the ripe acorns fell from the dropping trees; and also could see the stars slide across the heavens. As the land swallowed them up, Insomnia knew she had a smile on her face. This was where her life would change; and she knew it damn well.

”Kiara” she whispered. She looked her square in the eye. "I wish you were my sister...” She stood up from where they had been sitting. Insomnia closed her eyes. She understood what she needed to do, but also couldn't get the question out of her mouth. There were only certain wolves that could be this brave, to deal with this kind of pain. When Insomnia opened his eyes, she made the mistake of looking into hers. They were filled with emotion.

The clouds were beginning to dissipate, and through them the moon shined brightly. Behind the moon were the stars and the endless sky. Somewhere far away, far to the north and the west were her family. Perhaps they were staring up at the sky as well. By the light of the moon Kiara could see small beads of water collecting in Insomnia's eyes. She was crying for Kiara, for the wounds and the pain she had suffered. It made Kiara's heart warm and she felt at ease around the strange wolf. "It's okay, I appreciate your feelings." The white wolf agreed whole heartedly with Insomnia's statement. There was no reason for Amy to have hurt her, yet she did. For this, Kiara was truly sorry.

Together Kiara and Insomnia sat in the darkness. The winds were calm and the clouds continued to dissipate. The moon was bright and the stars laid across the sky painting a beautiful picture. Many could track their way through the world using the tiny dots in the sky, but Kiara simply stared at them for their beauty. Kiara thought of her family, of her friends, and in the tradition of the festival she thought of the things she had done against the others. She thought of all of the wrong things she had done in her past, all of the terrible things she had said and done. To each wolf she had wronged she apologized to them quietly and hoped that the Great Mother would deliver her apologies.

After a long time Insomnia spoke of her wish to be Kiara's sister. It was a strange wish, they were not pack nor were they related by blood. Did Insomnia wish her to join her pack, or did she wish to join Ichika? It was an interesting concept but Kiara knew nothing of Insomnia's pack. Jokingly Kiara said, "Your going to make my real sister's jealous with a statement like that." Insomnia stood and looked at Kiara, her eyes filled with an emotion that the white wolf couldn't describe. What was Insomnia thinking? What was her goal? Kiara stared at the strange wolf, wonder in her sapphire eyes. "Insomnia, you are a wonderful wolf and you have been so kind to me. I really appreciate it."
