Bring me to life

Occ: I don't think Essence will be in the thread. So i am going to write that Sarian made it to safty. Sorry if this is a monster post. X'yrin first then no post order. Forward dated to the 5th

Sarian was excited. She was finally going to have some family time outside the house. Her mother had decided that she needed to get out of the house and Sarian was more then willing to go. Kiara was to come with them and Sarian brought her ball with her. It was blue rubber ball and Sarian enjoyed chasing after it and pouncing on it. Sarian was still not used to the snow but it didn't stop her from playing in it and chasing her ball. She was having so much fun running around, leaving trails in the snow and paw prints. The snow made her little paws cold and numb and the hard packed ground made them sore when they thawed. She yipped for them to keep up, that she was ready for some play time and more ball chasing. Sarian had made it to the clearing before everyone else and had chased her ball all over the field. She had must scared some nesting birds when her mama made it to the clearing. Sarian had smiled and her silver blue eyes glowed as she ran to her mother. On her way to her mama she lost her footing and her ball and when she gained her footing back she went after the ball. She didn't hear her'mothers voice to stop only that she wanted her ball. She caught it half way down the hill and tried to stop only to find that she couldn't. She spun out of control and she howled for help only to see her mommy running after her. She was so close to the river when her mama's warm, smooth hands caught her, pulled her against her. She could hear her mother whispered in angered but loving tones and Sarian whined as she was scolded. Suddenly there was a crack and Sarian remembered flying though the air and hitting a mountain of snow as her mama screamed for help as the ground gave way under her grey paws. She watched in horror as her mama clawed at the frozen ground only to find she couldn't hold on and was swallowed by the black swirling river that proceeded to carry her down stream.

Shiloh wasn't sure if X'yrin heard her cry for help as the earth cumbled under her paws. She had had seen Sarian land safely before the earth disappeared and she was swallowed by the black, freezing depths of the half frozen river. She felt like she was being cruched, no way of knowing what was up or down. Her lungs burned and her hands reached for something, anything to help pull her out of the subzero water. She struggled to kick and found her nose broke the surface enough for her to breathe some before she was dragged back under. She collided with something hard and she felt a sharp pain in her side, followed by another in her stomach. Was this the fates way of punishing her. She couldn't lose her pups this way. She didn't know how long she was in the freezing water but time all but stopped for her as the burning in her lungs stopped and she no longer felt the crushing abyss that was the river. She could see her family growing clearer and clearer each passing moment and she knew she was dying. The thought of finally being with the family she lost so many moons ago made her heart swell. She reached for her mother and she shook her head as her fathers muzzle started to move. She couldn't hear them and she called out to them as fluid rushed into her lungs, suffocating her. "Mom? Dad? Anya? Please... let me go with you. Where is Lucian?" She asked as her mother shook her head again and her sister pointed to her stomach with sad grave eyes. Her father walked up to her and again whispered that it wasn't her time to go, that she had people that loved her and wanted her to live. The sharp pain in her stomach came again and she wondered if it was her father giving her the strength to kick up, to live and breathe. She broke the surface again and was able to grab a root and pull herself into the twisted, exposed roots of the tree, stopping her journey down the river but not making it to safety yet. The water threatened to sweep her away and she couldn't breathe though all the water in her lungs. She felt the pain again, worried that she and her pups wouldn't make it. "Som....someone!.... he....help me!" she attempted to cry as she held on for dear life.

Morning had been a pleasant start to an otherwise uneventful day. Her morning nausea had gone away with the rise of the sun, its beautiful ascend still imprinted on her mind. The peaceful moment conducted upon her mate’s request was one that would not be forgotten in the many days to come. It was an image she could describe to their children and when they were able to walk under the shadows of their loving parents, she would take them to the mountains so that they could witness Nature’s spectacular wonder as well. Such pleasantries made her smile and gave the woman something to hope for. The joy that came with life she could hardly wait for, and again found herself asking the ancestors to progress the course of time to their birthing.

But she could not ponder too much on what required her patience. Other time abiding events were in store, like the family gathering orchestrated by the lively Shiloh and her little Sarian. Time had passed since her mishap with the family, but with all matters, only time would dictate where they went from there. And time had indeed proved to favor her. The golden woman was excited to have been invited, but knew she could not leave without notice to her mate. She left with a whispered word later that afternoon asking that he protect their Lady Nayru until her return, promising to be safe and return sound. Yet even with her want to be amongst her Ichikan family again, she wanted to maintain the air of discretion regarding her condition and asked to be veiled by her cloak before leaving, uniquely fashioned by her gracious pupil Frodo.

She followed the procession in the larger of her four-legged builds with the subtle bulge of her belly hidden by her cloak. Despite her early morning sickness and the drain of her energy by the growing miracles within her, her steps were lengthy and spritely, carrying the air of excitement as she trailed. She smiled fondly at little Sarian as she played with her toy, her anticipation for her own children growing more apparent the longer she watched the pup at play. However her smile began to wane as the little one thread closer to the river ignoring the calls of her surrogate to remain at play. Even the wordless call of the Kozan was ignored to remain in favor of the little ball. X’yrin was growing more anxious pawing the ground as she begged the child back from the river’s edge and only watched as Shiloh tread the treacherous grounds to retrieve the girl.

Then the ice gave way, and the pup was flung into a bed of snow as Shiloh’s rounded form slipped into the frigid depths of the river. Panic jerked the woman to attention, first darting over to the crying pup to make sure she was alright, then raced along the river’s edge to assist her friend. There was little she could do as the girl was taken by the rapids. The time it would have taken her to change her form, Shiloh no doubt would have been pulled under and never seen. She did not know what else to do other than howl in dismay, calling urgently for the more able Jace to help them. Time was of the essence and with each passing second Shiloh’s chance of retrieval was growing further slim.

The snowy day was perfect for a family outing. Kiara, Shiloh, and Sarina and even X'yrin were all going to spend some quality time in the snow. The last time Kiara saw X'yrin, it was but a fleeting glimpse as she was pulled away on a sled. Before that, X'yrin had left with Sarain only to disappear for several days with the young puppy. It had been a disastrous incident that led to nothing but trouble and hard feelings. Kiara had always liked the nomad and was upset when their friendship had appeared to be ruined. But if one good thing came out of Kiara's attack, it was the rekindling of their friendship.

As they walked all eyes were trained on Sarain, although it wasn't exactly surprising. After all, all three of them were females with strong nurturing instincts. But Kiara's sapphire eyes held a twinge of jealousy. She too wanted to play in the snow, but her wounds would not allow such activity. The Ikusei felt she had been neglecting Sarain recently, their playtime had all but stopped due to the snow wolf's inability to roughhouse. Although Kiara had been doing some word games with Sarian, it was clear that both of them needed a good run. At least Sarain gets to have fun. Kiara thought sadly, looking around at the pristine white landscape. How can a snow wolf not play in the snow?

Winter was a wonderful time for wolves, but it could also be cruel. Kiara watched in horror as Sarain started to skid towards the river, it's icy depths sure to claim the young puppy's life. Kiara was ready to bound into action but luckily her mother managed to reach Sarian in time. The Ikusei let out a heavy sigh, thinking the danger had passed, but a sickening crack broke through the winter air as both mother and daughter began to fall. Shiloh was able to throw Sarain safely to the banks, but the grey wolf could not get herself to safety and Kiara could only watch helplessly as her friend plummeted into the black depths.

Kiara raced forward, her scars screaming in pain and in some places opening up again. Blood beaded in these locations, but quickly scabbed over to protect the injured tissue. Despite the pain Kiara ran to the banks, her breath coming out in ragged gasps. Out of the corner of her eye's she could see golden fur running over to check on Sarain, so Kiara ignored the puppy for now. X'yrin would check to make sure she was safe, leaving Kiara to search the water. The injured wolf did not go far into the water, her paws just scraped along the bank where the ice had broken. The icy water licked at her paws as the snow wolf paced a little, going from the broken bank to the edges of the ice farther down stream and back to the breach. No matter how much her eyes search, Kiara could not see Shiloh.

Looking over she could see X'yrin also at the banks, trying to search for Shiloh and calling for Jace. Kaira cursed her own weakness. The snow wolf was a strong swimmer and if she were in peak health she could have easily jumped into the water and saved Shiloh. But with her injuries, jumping into the water would only add to their problems. The movement of silver fur caught her eyes and Kiara turned her head just in time to see Sarian running over to the banks calling for her mother. This Kaira could do. The arctic wolf quickly intercepted Sarian and pulled her away. The pup was just barely small enough for Kiara to still drag her away by the scruff of her neck.

When they were a safe distance from the bank, Kiara held the screaming Sarian in one location. Even though her small body was pinned, Sarain still tried her best to escape all the while crying for her mother. Kiara's jaws held the puppy in place while her worried eyes continued to search the river for any signs of Shiloh. Kiara closed her eyes and for once, she actually prayed. She prayed to all the gods her mother had told her about. She especially prayed to the spirits of the aurora, asking them not to take Shiloh or the puppies away.

It was only be the luck of the draw that the grey scale woman had chosen to travel around that day in the for of beasts, the secui. It made her patrol much faster and soon the woman found herself finished with her daily duties. Now that Sage, the coyoteish daughter of Razekiel had taken over the rancher rank Jace was left with a lot more time to spend towards her other duties and her children. She was heading back to the house that she and Temo shared in Westville for a bit of well needed rest before her children saw fit to ply her with endless questions and requests for stories and songs and playtime. She loved her children but even mother's had enough sometimes.

The call of X'yrin however stopped her in her tracks and the small half dog woman brought her ears forwards listening for the sound. Danger! Water, ice cold. Shiloh That was the impression she got from it. Now that she was alert and listening she could hear a faint screaming, the sound of a child calling for its mother. The wolf dog was quick to respond, snow flying out from beneath her splayed paws. Compared to the snow of the arctic this was nothing, easily navigatable. Her colored form all but blue over the white iced water as she pushed herself to full sprint, many days of remembered treks across the snow covered sea ice flashed before her eyes and for a second she was back with her family, back with her birth pack running through the snow with an ease that was otherworldly.

The screaming got louder and louder all the time she got closer until finally she burst onto the scene her quick eyes taking in everything at once. Kiara pinning the distraught and crying Sarian, X'yrin pacing the bank of the river and the large slab of earth missing from its back that the water rushed up against. She didn't stop as she raced towards them, didn't even slow as she coiled her body up and leapt from earth into the air and then water. This water was not one she feared, only the ocean and lakes could do that to her. The pressure hit her first, the resistance of the current pushing against her, then a second later the cold did too, burning her eyes and nose with its fierce icy grip and yet she had not felt so alive since leaving her homeland.

The woman surfaced for only the barest of seconds to refill her lungs with air and then dived back under, searching for the form of the scarred wolf with which she held so many quarrels and hard feelings. The fast flowing water was murky with dirt and debris making her task that much more difficult. The longest she was kept from her goal the greater chance that she would not find Shiloh alive. Then, there! A head broke the surface and a weak voice called out. Jace let the flow of the river take her, forcing her down stream. She nearly crashed into Shiloh but managed to grip hold of the bank at the last second and keep from ploughing into the pregnant wolf. The cold only fuelled her efforts, taking energy from the icy grasp of it, for she was a wolf of snow and winter, surely the cold must also be her element.

Somehow she managed to grab the woman's neck in her jaws, clamping them shut around her scruff. It would probably hurt her but there was no other way she could get her onto the bank. She clawed at the muddy riverbank pulling the broken female with her. When the grasp of her jaws was no longer helpful, she let go and shoved Shiloh forwards with her head and body, using brute force to finally send her tumbling onto dry land and away from the dangers of the river. Good thing she had done too, for the bank underneath her front paws gave way at that moment, plunging Jace back into the depths of the water and forcing her head underneath the waves, filling up her nose with the stuff and momentarily blinding her. She was only taken a short way however before she managed to latch on again to the bank and pull herself out.

She was soaked through to her skin, both layers of her fur now useless to keep her warm and she shivered heavily, flopping onto the ground like a beached fish before coughing up the water that had been swallowed into her lungs. Which had been quite a lot for the short time she had been forced under.

Shiloh had all but given up when she felt the steel grip of someone pulling her out of the water. She was pushed when teeth wouldn't work and rolled down a short hill before coming to a stop at the bottom. She coughed up water and curled up as pain laced her side and stomach. She hadn't seen who saved her, she was too cold and weak to move. She felt a burning between her legs and she cried out in a horse, water clogged voice. No.... this couldn't be happening. She whimpered as another contraction took over her body and she felt the warmth of her life blood seeping from the wound on her side. She called for someone, anyone to help her as another painful contraction went though her, blinding her, making her vision swim. She was too early. She still had three weeks to go yet her pups were coming now. She cried softly as the pain in her side grew worse and her contractions closer. There was a gush of water and blood as Shiloh pushed out her first born, a girl of dark grey and black.

Despite the freezing cold and injured side Shiloh was able to move the child closer to her to clean away the membrane that covered her daughter. The pup was way too small and was able to give a few short whimpers as Shiloh cleaned her. She was beautiful with almost completely black fur with a dark grey sock on her right front paw and a grey tipped left ear. She knew that her daughter wasn't strong enough to live and even though she latched on to Shiloh's teat to suckle, it was only a matter of time before she would pass. Shiloh's body held little to no warmth as she curled around her daughter, nameless because she had told Kiara she would have the rights to name her first born. She lay on her good side as the contractions slowed. She licked at her daughter and pressed her nose to the small bundle, feeling her heart beat slow by each moment, her suckling growing weaker and weaker. Shiloh didn't want to lose her so quickly after birthing her and her whimpers turned to whines that turned into a howl of loss and pain, of fear and hurt. What had she done to deserve this? Why must she lose everything that mattered most to her. Her mother, her father, Anya and Lucian and now her daughter who didn't even begin to start to live was being stripped from her. She didnt even know if Sarian was safe. For all she knew she could have lost her too.

She lay there with her first born, licking her, nudging her, whispering love to her as she passed away, leaving Shiloh alone with her. "No... please move.... please baby don't leave me alone. Mommy loves you... mommy has always love you. You are my angel. Mommy loves you. Please move...." Shiloh cried as her daughter ceased to move, her little body, cold and starting to freeze. Shiloh nudged her, begged her to move, not willing to let her go already. She lay there just staring at the corpse of her daughter, too numb with grief an pain to notice someone coming up to her

The golden woman could do nothing more than watch as the scene unfolded before her eyes, a scenelet of peril that shook her to the core and kept her frozen in place upon the bank. What could she do other than that? She couldn’t swim or dare attempt now even with the life of her friend at state. But there were lives other than her own that were dependent on her; small precious life that yet to have a face of name, yet she knew they lived with every stirring she felt in her womb. If it made her a terrible friend for choosing the safety of their lives over that of the bobbing female within the torrential pull of the river, then she would accept such a title and brave the consequences of it. She could only hope that Jace would heed her frantic calls and spare them both the pain of losing their packmate.

Briefly she cut her gaze to the panicked Sarian help down by her caretaker. Even the little one wanted to do something, even at the cost of her life. But it was in ignorance that she tried, attempting to fight tooth and nail to get at her mother. She would have died trying to save her mother, instilling further pain on the lot of them. Her distressed whines grew louder and stamping paws beat the earth relentlessly as if trying to summon some courage to throw her into the churning river. Something…anything other than sitting, staring and pleading. Where was the able Jace to save their friend? Would her call go unheeded…

From earth to air then water, the brown and grey form of the summoned savior leapt into the treacherous river before the woman had a chance to recall her origins. Air burst from her lungs in a victorious howl as the wonder of a female braved the flow of the river and ice to catch the small drifting form before it was out of reach. She was there to tend to the wounded girl the instant she was thrown on shore, her frantic gaze darted between Shiloh and Jace to ensure they were in some semblance of good health. She knew of Jace’s aptitude and was more convinced she was able to tend to herself, but Shiloh’s weakened and most vulnerable conditions worried the Nomad above all else.

She wandered around the lain girl, nudging her back gently then recoiled from the frigidity of her body. Instinctually she made to curl around the girl and supply her warmth but the amount of pain that suddenly overtook the wounded girl kept her at bay. She did not dare tread closer with the girl was ravaged by relentless quakes, her body literally rolling as waves of pain washed over her, spewing blood upon the snow, staining the earth with the putrid stench of death. Her hackles rose in alarm as the girl’s body was literally ripped in twine with the coming of life in its wake coated in blood and membrane. Not days before she had witnessed the same with Nayru, but this coming was unnatural forced by the circumstances that would bind its life to the gods.

Silently she watched as Shiloh attempted to feed the child, hoping to bring some life into its premature form, but it only continued to slow…until it was still. Her ears fell back to block out the torment in the girl’s voice. Her large form was nearly tripping over itself to leave the mother’s side to be near Jace’s, her head lowered and muzzle contorted in pain. The Nomad could not watch this… she could not stand by and witness this death when she had yet to have her own brood. “Jace…” the woman whimpered as she gently took her friend by the shoulder with her fangs. “I-I can’t see this… I can’t watch this…” she pleaded the woman for deliverance with trembled vocals. The image would forever be engraved in her mind, a cursed vision she wanted to relinquish in fear this tragedy would befall her as well. She couldn’t bare this pain nor that of the failed mother. “Jace please,” she whispered, again giving her shoulder a firm tug before releasing it all together.

Her ears, eyes, and nose were working overtime trying to discern what was happening while keeping the struggling puppy in place. It was heartbreaking to hear Sarian's frantic cries for her mother and Kiara could feel the young puppy struggle with all her might to get away from her caretaker's grasp. Still Kiara would not budge and her jaws were firmly placed over Sarain's neck. This kept her front pinned to the ground as her hind quarters wiggled and contorted in many attempts to break free. The Ikusei was not hurting Sarian, but neither was she letting go. She remained steadfast, not even flinching as the puppy screamed for her mother again.

It wasn't long before Jace showed up, her secui form flying across the snow with all the grace of an arctic wolf. Soon she too was in the water and Kiara lost all sight of her. Due to her proximity from the stream and her head busy pining Sarian, the arctic wolf could not see what was happening within the watery depths. Still, her sapphire eyes search frantically for any signs of movement on the shore, hoping to see both females alive an well. Each second felt like an eternity as they passed slowly by. When Shiloh's weak voice broke out it wasn't soon enough. Kiara nearly sighed with relief but she realized the danger wasn't over yet. The snow wolf was kicking herself for being so weak, for not being able to jump in after her friend.

Moments later Shiloh appeared on the banks, followed closely by Jace who surfaced farther down stream. Both women were coughing up fair amounts of water, but at least they were alive and thats what really counted. She watched as X'yrin ran towards them as relief flooded her body. Kiara quickly let go of Sarian, but blocked her path just as quickly. "You will stay with me and follow everything I say. Understand." Sarain frantically bobbed her head up and down, her small form shaking with anticipation and here eyes filled with worry. Together, the Ikusei and puppy ran over to Shiloh. Both of them were anxious to see how she was. Shiloh was not an arctic wolf, and she was pregnant to boot. Her condition could not be good. Kiara wondered if Shiloh would be okay. She was weak, her heart was bad, and she had been in the water far longer than she should have. And what of the puppies? How were they, and what affect would this have on them?

Kiara's eyes widened with horror as she saw Shiloh go into contractions and push the first puppy out. Blood pooled and stained the snow, while Sarian let out a little yelp. Even X'yrin was not immune to the horror, her heckles raised as she stepped away from Shiloh. Kiara immediately blocked Sarian's path as well as her field of vision. This was not something a puppy should see. Frantically she searched for some place to put Sarian, somewhere that she would be safe until this whole thing was over. There was a small cluster of trees nearby where one unusually large tree stood. Using her snout to herd Sarain and her body to block her field of vision, Kiara was able to quickly move the puppy over to the trees. Her high pitched protests and shouts for her mother fell on deaf ears as Kiara moved Sarian to safety. There she deposited the silver puppy between the roots of the large trees. They were far away from the stream, close to where the group of wolves was, and most importantly they prevented Sarian from seeing the atrocities that were unfolding. "Stay here. Don't move, don't come out, and don't look." As if to emphasize her point, Kiara pushed Sarian down again and held her for a second while Sarian whimpered.

With Sarian taken care of, Kiara practically flew over the snow to where Shiloh was. Her sides where heaving greatly and her scars burned from the effort. The arctic wolf curled around Shiloh, trying to keep her warm just as Shiloh was trying to keep the dead puppy warm. Kiara could only watch as the grey woman tried to wake her unnamed daughter, the one Kiara would not name. She had passed from the world and to know her name would only grieve the mother. Slowly Kiara turned her muzzle to the sky as she let out a mournful song. Her howl was filled with loss and sorrow, and it announced the death to all of creation. Kiara did not know if the song was welcome, but it was something her family had always done to mark the death of a loved one. Even if the puppies were only alive for a few seconds, they at least deserved this right.

Warmth. Something Shiloh was going without. She had long lost feeling in her fingers and she felt the fleeting touch of X'yrin before she backed off. She wouldn't offer Shiloh comfort but she could be useful. "X'y....X'yrin.... t...ta...take Sarian... h...ho...home wi....with you. Ke....keep her from me t....till I... heal. I...I a....am tr...trusting y...you ...wi...with my ba....baby g...gi....girl" Shiloh stuttered as the golden woman begged for Jace's help. She hoped that X'yrin understood, that the woman would protect Sarian, keep her warm and safe. She was trusting the woman with Sarian again and Shiloh could hear her daughters crys get closer and closer. No.... please don't let her see this. She faintly heard Kiara's words, the calls of Sarian as another contraction took over her body. Another pup soon to die as soon as it came into the world, it was easier then her first born to push out.

As she took off the membrane of this pup she found him already dead. He was deformed and missing a leg. He was smaller then her first and she suppressed a whimper of pain and grief as she placed him next to his sister. He had all grey fur like herself and would have been beautiful if he would have lived. She felt warmth at her back and smelled Kiara. "M...my de....dearest f...fr...friend.... I... I... ha...have mi...miscarried... m...my first b...born i...is dead... I...I a....am s...so sorry ..y...yo...you co...couldn't n....name her....li...like I pr...promised," Shiloh stuttered as she felt Kiara's warmth seep into her freezing fur and flesh. She heard Kiara's howl and joined her, the pain of losing not one pup now but two weighing on her mind.

Shiloh looked over at Jace, the woman who had gone though almost as much as she had and gave her a weak smile. She owed Jace her life. Despite their arguing, the woman still saved her life. Why... why would Jace save her life? Shiloh started to see stars again as the cold seeped into her side wound and despite Kiara's warm body next to her she did little to stop the cold rising in her heart. She was in debt to Jace for saving her. How would she repay her? She closed her eyes as the darkness became to heavy to keep away. Jace was right. She was weak.

Her lungs burned. There was water within them, within her ears as well blocking out a load of the sound. She felt teeth within her shoulder and barely heard X'yrin's pleading words, not understanding what she meant. She shook her head rapidly, soon her whole body following as she hauled herself to her feet to better expel water from the dragging saturated heavy fur that was now a hindrance with its thickness. Her eyes teared up from pain and the woman brought her head forwards and vomited forth a great torrent of water, the majority of what she had swallowed as she had been swept under. X'yrin would have to move fast if she wanted to keep her feet clean of the vomited up fluid.

Finally Shiloh's agonized cries could pierce the sanctum of her ears and the woman as well pulled back her audits to block out the pained sounds of the mother in labor. It was not even comparable to the hell raising screams that Jace had released during her own second successful birth but the pain within it, the tortured sounds, it made death's chill fill her body and sink into her bones, making her colder still. The small she wolf still shivered heavily but now the cold of her spirit had overtaken the freezing temperature of her soaking wet status. Before her eyes, wasted memories flashed, two small ones that had been murdered in cold blood, that had never lived to see their first sunrise or take a first breath. Dead before they had known life. Cold, steely hatred for Lucifer welled up from the pit of her soul and consumed the patchwork woman. The death of a child, no matter who be it's sire or dam was never a thing to celebrate and always an event to mourn.

Jace too raised her three toned head to the shadowy overcast sky, an echoing sorrowful call coming from her parted maw. All of her sadness, her fury and excruciating hatred, suffering, released in a single note of sound. Jace observed the same traditions that Kiara did, the mourning howl for a death. She had to leave, now. Before she made a fool of herself by breaking down in front of the woman she was less than friendly with, regardless of the life debt Shiloh now owed her Jace did not want to share her company for longer than she could. She was not a friend to Shiloh and she should not be present at such a disturbing occurrence, such things were reserved for people that loved and people that cared.

Now that her tribute of noise was over Jace moved away from the three woman, she watched with a heavy guarded expression as Shiloh spoke to both Kiara and X'yrin deciding whether to wait or not for her fellow prestige. Then a horrible thought struck her. Shiloh had not named her two children. To let your get travel into the beyond world without a name to guide them, Jace shivered for a whole new reason now. The thought of the two innocent deceased pups forever wandering, forever searching for a reason, for the truth filled her with dread. Then her own name came to her... Jace; The Protector, The Guardian, as a whisper within her mind, she looked to the sky and to the aurora that she could not see, that she was too far south to see. 'They are not mine to give a name to but I implore you Great Spirits, take the ones I give as their own and let them be their guides. A girl of dust and black, I name thee with hope; Malarka: Aurora of the Spirits. A boy of ashen dis-perfection, I name thee with life; Kailsol: Star Watcher. Take them well and bathe them in your warmth, pass them on to the Great Mother with care.' The coldness that had settled into her upon her realization disappeared slightly, she had done her best.

Looking at the sky as she was she missed Shiloh's smile to her, when the arctic woman finally did lower her head, Shiloh had passed into the black realm, the one of unconsciousness. Jace felt ill and acid bile prickled at the back of her throat. Maybe when they were free of the other two women's presence she would succumb to the feelings and lose what little she had left within her stomach. Such a horrible tragedy had unwound itself on this day, all of her old feelings stirred back up again, the presence of her children was sorely missed and Jace longed to run home to them all and pull them close, not letting them go ever.

She pleas of the forsaken mother were not missed by the golden female. Though she wanted only to distance herself from this tragedy, if fear that the same would somehow overtake her, she could not leave the request of her friend unheeded.

On trembling legs she turned toward the marring sight, just barely missing the spew of vomit and water that gushed from Jace’s maw. She slunk to where the hidden Sarian was kept saying nothing as she took the pup by the scruff of her neck. Carefully she kept the pup out of sight of her mother by keeping her back to them and the child facing ahead. No pup needed to see their parent like this even if they were bound by something stronger than blood.

Her actions spoke for her with the pup delicately in her maw and veering steps leading away from the two still lain in the snow. She felt her heart wrench in recollection, but would not turn to look at them, not with the innocent still within her grasp. She dared not linger and quickened her somber walk to a purposefully gallop to return to Jace’s side so that together they could leave and reflect upon this travesty in their own, painful way.

Kiara payed only a little attention to Jace as she tried to herd Sarian over to the tree. Her snowy ears flipped back as the three-toned woman vomited up the water she must have swallowed and it nearly hit poor X'yrin. Despite being mostly water, the putrid stench still floated over the cold air and struck Kiara's nose. The snow wolf wondered if Jace was alright, but didn't dare turn her head for fear that Sarain might slip past her.

Why did this happen? What was wrong with being happy? Why couldn't Shiloh give birth to healthy puppies? Why? Why? Why? These questions ran through Kiara's mind as she watched the horrible scene unfold. Two puppies were dead, and one was so badly deformed. Even if Shiloh had carried to term, the deformed puppy might not have survived. It was a cruel thing to find out and it took all of her strength of will not to stare at the deformed puppy. Shiloh had placed the lifeless boy next to his sister and the sad sight broke Kiara's heart. The stench of vomit combined with the stench of death and blood almost made Kiara hurl herself.

Despite Kiara's sorrow, she could hear the others join in her song. Their heads raised to the heavens and their voices traveled over the land. Each one added to the song, filling it with pain and loss. Even Jace, who held no love for Shiloh, joined in with her own mournful cry. The three-toned women's voice was so beautiful and it only made the song even sadder. Soon their song had ended, yet Jace continued to look towards the sky. Her posture reminded Kiara of her mother and the way she used to pray. Was Jace also praying? Kiara felt like she had been betrayed by any gods or spirits or Great Mothers that may exist. She had prayed for the safety of Shiloh and her puppies, but now the puppies were dead and Shiloh was hovering on the brink of life and death. Kiara eyed Jace as she swore to never pray again. Such a thing was a waste of her time and energy.

Kiara was incredibly grateful that X'yrin was taking Sarian away. Kiara needed to help Shiloh and she wouldn't leave the grey woman's side. However, she realized the importance of keeping Sarain safe and away from this terrible scene. With Sarain in good hands, the arctic wolf could place her full attention on Shiloh. She was shocked to find that Shiloh had passed out and her body was growing cold. The wound on the grey woman's side was bad as well. Kiara whined and started licking her face, hoping to wake Shiloh up. Kiara looked around frantically, unsure of what to do. Should she try and move Shiloh or was that too dangerous. But if Kiara didn't do anything Shiloh would freeze to death.

The snow wolf steeled herself, preparing for the immense pain that this would cause her. Kiara stood up, her front paws working furiously to get rid of some of the snow. Once that was done, she tried to force herself underneath Shiloh's body. It took some time, and a little wiggling, but soon Kiara had managed to get her small body beneath Shiloh's larger form. With a great heave the snow wolf stood up, her legs shaking and her scars burning while most of Shiloh's body still drapped on the ground. Kiara whimpered a little, but she at least she did not collapse. In her mind, she was going through the route they needed to take back home. With a great amount of effort, she started to walk each step slow and difficult. She needed to get Shiloh out of the cold, and this was the only way she could think of.

Far off Aleo stalked the large buck, crouched down in his obsidian Lupus form, as he moved a twig snapped under his feet. The deer startled and lifted its head to look around with wide brown eyes. The ebony beast licked his chops, a salmon-colored tongue brushed against his muzzle. His intent was to kill the creature and drag it home as a feast for his family, to keep them healthy and far from starving. He knew that Shiloh was off somewhere, the slightest bit of worry was felt from the coywolf, but it was only for a little while anyway. Tensing up the strong muscles of his hind-legs, Aleo sprang at the large herbivore, hanging I with teeth and claws attempting to take down the grazing creature. For a few moments Aleo fought it, snarling in frustration as he tried to take the beast down. It kicked and buckled under his weight soon enough, just a little stunned from the attack of the large canine. Far off a cry of terror was heard, startled Aleo turned away from the prey he was attempting to kill. The voice was familiar, and soon he knew it to be the voice of Shiloh. His attention was taken from the deer in a blink of an eye, he neglected to see the creature getting up and felt a stabbing sting on the corner of his muzzle. It had kicked him, leaving a u-shaped bleeding wound on his maw. It didn't do anything to frighten the d'Lanri. Aleo left the area in a frantic search for his mate. "Shiloh!" He called from the trees searching frantically with dark purple eyes.

Aleo looked for a few minutes, racing around the area searching for her scent in the wind. Soon enough he caught sight of a small group, a woman leaving with Sarian and the multi-hued Yaksuko nearby. His eyes widened in fright, seeing a pile of silver and ivory fur laying in a defeated pile on the ground. He shifted to his Optime form, this shift was more painful than other times, the cut on his face was stretched painfully into shape. He didn't feel the pain, only fear for his mate's life. He crouched down beside her and noticed her breathing, she was alive! But unfortunately his blood children were not. Painful guilt and grief overcame the usually stony man. Small tears fell from his eyes, hands probed her small body with the softness of feathers, feeling the damage done to her body. "No...Shiloh. No... Stay alive for me!" As gently as possible, he picked up her broken unconscious body. Dreading the thought that she was like a limp ragdoll. He held her body in the most gentle careful ways, not wanting to further hurt his mate. He noticed Kiara and nodded, signaling that she should go back home and he would handle carrying Shiloh back. His tongue brushed Shiloh's cold wet face, he had to get her home and tend to her more serious wounds and keep her warm.

Warmth. There was a snift in warmth. One minute it was nextit was under her then it was all over her. She could smell Aleo and leaned against him. "Y... yo c...came... f.....fo....for me....I... lost them... I lost o...our babies.." she whispered against his black fur as she started to shiver uncontrollibley because of the wind. She tried to look at him and felt the blackness take over again. She couldn't feel her body and her side hurt so much. She was leaving her pups behind. She couldnt leave them behind. She needed them. She needed to keep them warm. She wanted to save them. All rational mind left the woman as she struggled feebly against her mate.

"Put me down... let me save them... let me save my pups! Please I can hear them call for me! P...please...... they call for me,' she whimpered as she tried to get out of Aleo's arms. She cried and whimpered in pain as she started to see dark beings rush up to her. She gripped his fur and lost consciousness.

His mate leaned into him, he worried that she'd get sick from the cold and shivering, Aleo gave her a small reassuring kiss on the nose as he walked, the day was still early and he had tonnes of time before the dark was upon them. With on hand he stroked Shiloh's hair, and heard her words. "I know...I would have been here anyway." He felt bad for leaving them behind, it gave the obsidian male feel sick inside to think that he was leaving them for carrion. His own children to make a scavenger's meal. Shiloh was struggling against his hold, and he gently set her down. His children...He let his mate lean on him, one hand around the non-injured side of her waist. "We have to go back."

They walked back to the area of the trauma, it smelled like death and struggling, he lurched but his last meal thankfully didn't make an appearance. The pups were there, limp and lifeless. He scooped them up gently, getting a small look at his loss. When they got home the little ones would get a proper burial. A real one. The stillborns should rest in peace. He held the little ones close, and kept Shiloh close to him as well. "Oh Shiloh I'm so sorry." Nothing could hide the guilt, pain, and immense grief in his voice

Shiloh looked at them and reached for them. "Give them here Aleo... give me my babies. They are OK.... they just need warmth from mommy," she whispered reaching for them. She needed her babies. She needed them to be OK even though the Kavi was whispered that they were gone. The tears she held for them flowed over and she cried for them. She had wanted a family so bad and for them to be gone. It was killing her inside. let me take over Shiloh. You can't cope with this... thought Kavi as Shiloh morned her loss. She reached for Also and slowly made the walk back to the apartment. As soon as they got home she stumble to bed and lay there.

She would be feverish for days, her wound would bleed almost nonstop. Her heart would ache over her loss and because of her condition. She would stay silent for many days after and wouldn't leave her room till the trip to New dawn. She would have a rock relationship with Aleo and she would lose Sarian....
