Private for Ezra & Sage, and eventually Lilin. Dated to the 10th. Sorry 'bout the wait getting this up x__x Kinda irrelevant now but holy crap, next growing season he's tots getting some of these going around the fire pit. XD

If it hadn't already, Hilsburn stood out now more than ever. The potent strain growing in the greenhouse produced a veritable stink year-round, but with the Earth outdoors dormant for Winter, the overall stench of marijuana was greatly diminished; it wasn't particularly noticeable more than half a mile away. More conspicuous was the network of seven unique canine scents radiating into (or away from) the property. In the blink of an eye, his lonely outpost had blossomed into a bona fide commune, with the boisterous Ariadne its newest resident. A mishmosh of other individual aromas — either clients or curious passer-bys — amplified its odoriferous presence even more.

With so many occupants in such a small area — not to mention the frequent visitors — it was with some surprise Barrett found himself alone. The backyard served as a nexus point in fair weather (as his garage did when it was poor), and generally speaking, if he kicked around out there (or left the large bay doors open) long enough, he found himself in good company in due time. He knew Axle and Grit were out and about; now that there were so many eyes and ears on the property, Barry felt ok dismissing them more often. As for everyone else? He had no idea.

Shrugging mentally, he stretched out on a worn blanket next to the fire pit and sparked a fat blunt laced with sweet-smelling opium. Surely that'll get someone's attention, he thought with a grin. The night was still young.

This is a rambly mess. Ignore most of it. Sosu: 546

Ezra was used to being alone at this point. The man had suffered internally for weeks while Ever disappeared and his son went hungry most nights. The pain that had latched onto his heart seemed as if it would never go away; he couldn't really remember what it was like to be happy and without grief sitting on his chest day in and day out. However, since moving to his peculiar place that Barrett called home, he found Those aches to be fewer and less often. He had a steady supply of food because the game here was plentiful, Eli was safe, and the man had company whenever he wanted. For now, the secui couldn't imagine anything better. He was incredibly grateful to Barry for taking him in on such short notice.

The man had stayed to himself most days since moving in. He wanted to stay out of the way of the busy helpers, Axle and Grit, who were more focused on their chores than shooting the shit. Ezra had set up his room and even started drying flowers that were in the gardens for decoration. He knew they were for the butterflies, but since they were very much dead he figured Barry wouldn't mind a few of them disappearing. Ezra had memorized the layout of the compound being sure that Barry knew that HE knew where he was allowed and where he wasn't. Ezra would do his best to stay out of his companions hair; he was actually more worried about Eli, who was more than curious about everything in this place. Was it a good place to raise a child, with marijuana, opium, and frequent drug deals all over the place? Probably not, but he was young enough that the drugs hadn't corrupted him yet. No one here was interested in making Eli cognizant of what actually went on  when Ezra put his boy to bed, either.

The hybrid had taken Eli scouting earlier, for some reason the boy wanted to see if any ducks were nearby that they could hunt. Ezra had played along, mostly because he wanted his boy distracted and more than anything didn't have he heart to tell his son that the sucks probably fled south for winter. Either way, the two husky hybrids had spent the day together giggling, laughing, and sprinting.

The duo had come back exhausted. Night had fallen on their return but it was still relatively early. Eli was tired and had even fallen asleep on their way back. The boy lay spread-eagled on his father's back for the last quarter of the trip. Ezra reached the compound quietly, pulled Eli off his back, held the boys puppy fat in his jaws as he led the child up the stairs of the distillery and into bed. He gave his chocolate son a lick on the cheek goodnight. He was out like a light.

That distinctive smell came wafting through Ezra's nose; the man sniffed excitedly, following the trail of smoke. Of course, it let to Barry. Ezra grinned, especially when he saw the blunt. "Expecting company?" he asked his friend as he emerged from the darkness. Without waiting for a response the man sat down beside his friend, fluffy tail curling around his mammoth legs.

isuckisuckisuck, here, have unnecessary wordvomit. 905

The newly made Ma-tzu had been busying herself with her duties around the farm, and since she had come to Ichika, she had not left. Her work had been forefront on her mind, and for once she had liked it that way. She'd made pleasant company here so far, and it was just as her father had promised-- a peaceful haven. Pleasant aromas filled the air here day and night, and she woke each morning now to the rooster's song. He was a proud fellow, as they tended to be, and Sage liked to watch him parade around the ranch, showing off to even the largest of their stock.

Lennon had grown fond of the place, too, she noticed. Although his language had not grown more refined since the move, she found him communicating more openly with her, even seeking her out while she meandered about the farm. He often followed her past the stables; Sage thought he liked to tease that were confined to their stalls. It was harmless and almost amusing, but she did feel bad; still, her passing often meant tasty treats from the garden for her equine friends. The patch was not large yet, but it would grow steadily soon.

It was early afternoon, and she found herself sitting at the window, admiring the energy and livelihood of the ranch. It was nice to have a view; her windows in the Mansion had only shown her the dense, dark line of trees surrounding the building. Still, despite the lovely view, she was feeling restless. Sage had gotten up, gone outside, and come back in a million times already this morning, but nothing could shake the feeling that she needed to stretch her legs. Rising, she gathered her bag, already filled with her usual accoutrements as well as some extra weed, just in case. With her favorite rabbit fur blanket around her shoulders, Sage moved swiftly out the door, whistling for Lennon. Without hesitation, his large form came swiftly into view and she climbed onto him easily, using his thick mane for support as her petite frame settled onto his back. She adjusted her seating for a moment before tucking a joint between her lips and a lighter in her hand. Then, urging her painted stallion forward, she lit it and inhaled. It was time for a trip.

The Ichikan made fast time, even as she skirted widely around Inferni, not wanting confrontation of any sort, and still troubling to smell the scent of the place without being overwhelmed by emotion. She was not pushing Lennon hard, but their pace was good, slowing down for stretches as they went. Her destination was Halifax; Sage found that she was lacking in personal effects since her move, and wanted to scavenge. More tools were always useful for the ranch, too. First, though, she had plans to visit someone.

The last time she'd seen Barret was around Crimson Dreams; it had been a while since she'd traveled that south, but she had made a fast friend in him and wanted to foster that relationship further. Sage had too few friends, and in the recent months she hadn't had the time or energy to made new ones. But now, she longed for that companionship, and as she took Lennon through the broken human city, her nose turned up at the breeze, following every familiar scent of him that she could remember. It wasn't long before another, sweeter scent caught her attention-- an herbal smell that she knew too well. Black-lined lips broke into a grin as she urged Lennon ahead, bloodshot eyes struggling to open wide as her awe registered at the sight of his property. It was modest, but beautifully gardened, and though most of the plants lacked flowers in the winter, the area still had a marvelously pleasant aroma. From a distance and behind the shrubbery, she could vaguely make out two figures beside a fire, a thinner trail of smoke forming above the darker smoke of the bonfire.

Sage dismounted now and led her colorful steed on two feet, clutching the rabbit fur tight around herself, golden orbs peering through the fire-lit darkness as she rounded on the pair. At once, she recognized both. She hadn't expected to see the Cours man here, but it was nothing but a pleasant surprise. "Barry! Ezra!" she called out, tail wagging excitedly as she ran forward to greet them, immediately noticing the joint they were passing around. "Hey you guys! How are you both? Doing all the hanging out without me, I see?" Her smile filled her whole face, happy as she was to be amongst friends, familiar faces. Even if she wasn't incredibly close with these two, her encounters with them had been committed to her memory, as fogged and muddled as it may have been sometimes. "I didn't know you two knew each other," she commented airily as she sat down between them, gravitating towards the open flame, palms out for warmth. Lennon rummaged freely around them, but she didn't worry-- he always stayed close. "What's that you've got there, loves?" she asked slyly, grinning as the smoke came to her nose again. It smelled much sweeter than the strain she was growing, and she wanted a taste. Sage remembered Barry's herb having a fabulous flavor, and what a wonderful way to enjoy it, beside the firelight with some good friends.

-Ultramegafail-

Opium made for a much different high than pot alone; it made everything heavy. After just one hit, he succumbed to gravity and flopped onto his back. It was a slow, deliberate manoeuvre — it was quite unlike a drunk tumbling over, but instead like a weary soul falling into a feathery bed at the end of a long day. Barry heaved a contented sigh and wriggled into the blanket, smiling as the stars twinkled cheerfully from above and the Earth embraced him from below.

Before long, he heard powerful footfalls and became dimly aware of shadowy movement just beyond his field of vision. Ezra's bemused expression soon materialised from the darkness and the mocha hybrid offered a stupid grin. He heaved himself up on one elbow and offered the smoke to his pal. This one's got some kick to it, eh? A mischievous wink accompanied his friendly warning; as far as he knew, the husky had yet to experience this more potent drug.

The loner was about to slide back down when something so profoundly unexpected happened, it actually managed to rouse him into a state of excitement. Sage! he exclaimed dumbly, scrambling into an upright position. His tail thumped as she took a seat between them; her question elicited a jubilant laugh. Oh, it's a party here every night! he mused. And chyea, help yourself! he offered, apparently willing to let Ezra fill in whatever blanks he desired. If his disheartened friend didn't want to share the unfortunate circumstances behind their arrangement, Barry certainly wasn't going to push the issue.

hope this is okay?

The hulking secui took a hit when it was handed to him, forcing himself to savor the smoke, eyes closed, exhaling through his nose. His eyes flickered open at Barry’s comment and Sage’s arrival, eyes widening in happiness. He hadn’t a chance to consider what his mocha friend said; he was unaware of the added drug, though Ezra smelled something funny about the smoke. Ezra wasn’t about to press the issue, though, because he was more preoccupied with the beautiful acquaintance of theirs that had just arrived. Ezra nodded excitedly to her statement, throwing a quick Yeah, I’m crashing here for a while, actually, in between her excited breaths.

The joint got passed around between the three of them for a while as they spoke, Ezra getting sufficiently stoned before he even realized his intoxication. He felt so good. His eyelids were weighty, though, and he could feel the life-giving liquid that ran through his body being heavier than normal as well. His brain also just felt….woozy.Sage,the man said almost drunkenly, Why’s such a pretty girl like yourself doing here with low lives like us? He shot her a flirtatious grin, and winked at Barry. Even though the idea of cheating on Ever had never even crossed the husky’s mind, his penis did indeed think differently. When the secui met the lovely Sage, it had been in a different situation way back when. Now, however, things were different. And it was hard to look away from her, she was too damn cute for words. Maybe it was the coyote in her.

herpaderp, looks good, lemme know if this is okay toooooo

Sage snaked lean arms around each of them in individual embrace, not shying to let a hand linger for a moment longer on Barry's handsome chest. It was great news to hear that they were staying together, and she beamed at the prospect, golden gaze stuck on Ezra's mismatched one for a moment, but she did not think to ask about his mate, or where she was. But she didn't know he had a child, either. "Oh, that's just lovely!" She giggled excitedly, and added, "I bet you two have a lot of fun together, hmm?" Her eyebrows raised as she took the joint, not thinking twice about it's contents, and planted it gingerly between her lips, hungrily pulling in the smoke. Sage was tired from her journey, after all. Maybe I'll just go to Halifax in the morning, after all, she thought, curiously glancing around for Lennon to assure herself of his proximity. He was there, rummaging as always, and she dismissed the thought as she breathed out a second, larger cloud of smoke. This time, she coughed, laughing suddenly as she handed the joint to Ezra, shaking her head. Something about the smoke was different, stronger, but she couldn't tell what. The taste might have been familiar, had she ever smoked the black tar of the poppy.

The Ma-Tzu's eyes blurred in and out of focus, so she rubbed at them, squirming for a moment in her seat to get comfortable. "Mm, it's so strong," she noted with another laugh the next time the joint went around, feeling the heavy weight of her own body suddenly, swaying where she sat. She managed to focus her foggy gaze on Ezra again as he grinned at her, asking what she was doing all the way down here. Normally, she might have visited Halifax more often, but recently, it was strange for her to travel. "I'm actually down to find supplies for the ranch," she mentioned, shrugging. It felt good get out though, and she told herself that she deserved this. "I left Inferni," she said, quietly, as if still afraid to be heard, even here. "I live in Ichika with Father now..." she cooed happily, but then her tone dropped again, almost sad. "I hear Ezekiel doesn't want me going back." It was painful still, to be exiled from a place she once called home. Sure, she had few incentives to visit there, but Kaena was there, her own grandmother, and... well, she knew there were others she wanted to see again. Her mind was so thick now, she didn't even want to think about all that.

Sage took a deep, dreamy breath and leaned to one side, finding her head resting on Ezra's thick-furred shoulder. It was soft, and she appreciated his strength through the foggy, heavy high. She found herself comforted by the warmth of her male company, their bodies thicker and more insulated than her own. As she stared into the fire for a silent moment, she traced lazy circles around a cowlick on the husky's knee, while her slender calves and feet drifted to mingle with Barry's beside the fire. Thick tail fanned a gentle wag along the ground; what a wonderful night it was turning out to be.

gl;wejaf;la Sorry for the long-ass wait again and the depressing nature of this post >> I tried to emphasise that his thoughts shouldn't be apparent to them IC, but I don't think I could realistically play this without addressing these concerns and finding some way for him to dissociate from it all x__x

Life was never static, but most changes developed gradually. When day-to-day life settled into a comfortable routine, it was especially easy to fall prey to an illusion of constancy. Even key events or developments, sufficiently temporally or spatially removed, were taken for granted. Only as he sifted through three.. four.. five month old memories was he struck by how much truly happened since those mild, star-lit evenings in late July: he renounced his citizenship in Crimson Dreams and wandered far and wide, crashing around Inferni, Anathema, and even Ichika no Ho-en; a fruitful trip to Freetown became the springboard for expansion of his little empire; his kids grew from blind, squeaking lumps into vivacious boys with three very distinct personalities.

His friends did not prove immune to time's passage, either. Ezra gained a son and lost a wife in the chaos of war, and it appeared Sage was an exile. While he was grateful she found another home — and deep down, felt the peaceful pack better befit her gentle spirit — he was perplexed by her brief account. He couldn't imagine her committing an offence great enough to merit expulsion, and for the first time, he questioned Ezekiel's judgement. This alone unsettled him; although the excitement around Halifax kept him from visiting the tawny Aquila often nowadays, not so long ago, the cousins were reasonably close. He felt torn and wished deeply for more information, but found he could only grimace.

Their reunion — much like the nostalgia it inspired — was then bittersweet. Fortunately, the uplifting effects of the marijuana kept him from getting completely mired in melancholy. He offered a feeble wag of his tail and cast her a sympathetic smile. Ichika's a nice place, he remarked, tone warm with compassion. He caught her eye as if to say We can talk more later, then peered back to the crackling flames.

Though he did not miss Ezra's hungry gaze or the provocative movements of Sage's hand, he found himself unable to process the information. There weren't many women that struck his fancy in a way more profound than base physical attraction, and the coyote hybrid was one of them. A pang of jealousy ripped through his heart, but even then, he knew it was hypocritical and unwarranted. Just barely could he count on one paw the women he'd bedded since they met; he truly believed he had no right to feel anything. His next hit was accordingly a deep one. He closed his eyes and disconnected. Only then was he able to enjoy the warmth of the fire and her light, friendly touches. When his eyes opened again they were alight with some intense primal presence, but Barrett himself was remarkably distant.

When Sage’s body touched his, he almost gasped in surprise. He had forgotten what he had felt like being caressed by the opposite gender. It had been five months since he had felt the warmth of a female’s touch. He felt cold and dead compared to her small patch of hand that was playing with his fur; it was warm and soft, just like Ever’s used to be. Ezra’s intoxicated eyes rolled back in their sockets for a moment as he took it all in. He craved more of her, but kept his desires silenced.

She spoke airily about her current pack troubles, but Ezra didn’t really listen. He knew nothing of the northern packs, so he had nothing to contribute to the conversation. He was really thirsty, however. “Im sorry to hear that, lovely,” he cooed to Sage, smiling even though it was inappropriate. He turned to his friend, “Barry, you don’t have anything to drink do ya? Cause I’m parched.” He offered his mocha friend a knowing smirk, and started giggling. “I think we should celebrate this chance occasion, it’s not every day we get graced by Sage River’s presence.” He offered the beautiful specimen an intoxicated grin.

sorry for my own shitty wait! D: derp derp derp

Ichika was a nice place. It felt good, for once, to be accepted as herself, without the cultural pressures that she'd felt in Inferni. Still, though, it was a change, and this break from her recent hard work was well welcome. Sage nodded at Barry, lips curling up in agreement. "It is," she cooed, her gaze lingering on him for a moment, dreamy and seductive while she decoded his face. Thin brows narrowed for a moment, a question on her own face. What can he not say in front of Ezra? Maybe it wasn't that; maybe he had something to say about Ichika, or about Inferni. When his head turned, hers did as well. These weren't thoughts she wanted to have now, anyways.

A dull humming lingered at the back of her hearing, beyond the sound of the crackling flames, and she became aware of her clouded senses. Her movements felt thick and slow, and they were. Sage glanced up at Ezra while he spoke, before she let her eyes face Barry again. The Ma-tzu laughed, nodding, "Yeah, Barry, let's celebrate," she purred, tone dropping at the last word, amber gaze half-lidded. She grinned then, and burst into laughter again, sitting up to lean forward again now. It felt like it took an eternity, her body felt so heavy. "A drink would be nice; something to warm us up, hmm?" Only as after she'd said it did she realize that she wasn't really cold, after all. Grinning happily, she swayed between the two, brush of a tail sweeping the ground behind her with slow strokes.
