Axelle found herself on a beach, somewhere. She looked around confusedly, trying to figure out how she might have gotten there and where she could have been. She took in her surroundings. She was on a beach, clear blue water ran up onto the rocks- yes, rocks. Instead of sand, there were little river rocks along the shore. The water looked too clear to be normal, and the scene almost looked like paradise. ”Am I dead?” She wasn’t speaking to anyone in particular because there was no one else around, or so she thought.

She continued to look around though, still puzzled of how she might have arrived there. The sun was abnormally bright, and she squinted every time she looked anywhere near up. The sky was a blue as the ocean was, maybe even a little bluer; there was not a cloud anywhere in sight for as long as she could see. If she was dead, then this looked like paradise- the place that is everything you have ever dreamed of and is probably more beautiful than diamonds. She would agree, though she hoped she wasn’t dead. ”Where is everyone else?” The last normal day she remembered was being in her den, going to sleep with all of her pack around her. She looked around again- there was nobody around her. She couldn’t even smell scents. There were no scents- so that could’ve only meant one thing- either she was alone, she was dead, or every one else was dead. No, because then I would smell death in the air… and there’s not even that. She looked around again, finding herself doing that a lot. Every time she did look around, it didn’t bring her any closer to knowing where she was or how she got there.

She took a step. The rocks crunched together underneath her heavy foot. She bent down, not really knowing what she was doing, and picked up a few of them. She held them loosely, letting some that wanted to, fall to the ground. They also landed with a snapping crunch sound as they bounced off their brother rocks. The ones that were left in her hand she studied. They were river rocks, well maybe in this case, ocean rocks. They had that shiny coating all rocks in the water did. They were pretty, though. The rocks had a reddish color to them, and she almost wanted to take one with her, home. Then she realized that she didn’t have anything to carry them in. Axelle let the rest drop to the ground, except for one left in her hand. She would hold on to it.

She rose from her spot, and aimlessly walked away. She wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do here, seeing how there seemed to be no way off this little island thing she was on. Her course followed the shoreline, and the clear water sometimes rolled over her Optime feet. The water was refreshing, and she walked into it. When the water came up to her knees, she stopped and cupped her hands- the reddish rock she grabbed earlier, still in them. She caught some of the water and drank from her cupped hands. It wasn’t salty at all. It tasted wonderful, almost like it was the ocean of youth or something. She felt one hundred times better as she took her first sip. Maybe the water was magical and it would take all her troubles away. She cupped her hands again and took more from the sea. She drank more of it, hoping her hypothesis was right and she would be able to leave here trouble free.
