Having the opportunity to speak with Saul had been a nice break from her usual solidarity. It was always a treasured encounter to peer into another’s life, she see what they did and learn of their experiences of life. It may not have been sought, but it was well received and X’yrin knew this to be the work of her ancestors, so gracious and kind to bequeath to her what her nature craved. Understanding and insight.

As she turned to Saul and watched him gather the carcass, the cool touch of his friendly kiss on her nose, she found that she rather enjoyed his company at least in this instance. She had never felt herself to be avoidant of another or regard them with skepticism upon first glance, but speaking to him made her realize that she had indeed been avoiding the boy and not just to distance herself from the Wentworth family. It was because he was a part of a life that she had little insight into. He was a remnant of the past now immersed into the future to rekindle the bond he had had with Nayru and Saluce and begin a new chapter with the child in his care. Such a transcendence from one frame of time to another was very strange for her, but not wholly unpleasant. Like all things, it needed to be gotten used to was all. And she was doubtless in believing there would be plenty of time to do so.

Silently she turned to follow after him, trusting her companion to find his way home when he finished his meal. While home was where she wanted to avoid for a while, there was no helping its beckon to return. In a family that cared and sought for the other’s wellbeing, how could she expect to keep away from them for long?
