Mamma can make everything better

Soft humming sounds escaped the child’s throat, a mimic of her mother’s lullaby she sang to her when she was just a few days old. Sure she could never hear the soft sound it made, but the vibrations were very easy to mimic. She only did this when she was nervous, and right now she was unsure how to act or feel. Unseeing eyes looked around the darkness, though from the feel of the ground it was both hard and wet. A soft shiver escaped the gray child as she contemplated her next move. Already she had seemed be able to “see” that there were a few walls here and there from her home to her current location. She called then rough walls for now because she had seemed to wander away from jace before she could ask what they were.

Again she hummed her body moving forward once again, though this time with slightly less caution. A stupid move for a blind girl but she could not help it, she was just a goofy puppy after all. Quickly she found herself biting at the unknown substance below her, something she heard her siblings call “snow”. Why did it have such a strange name? It was so cold, hard until her tongue touched it. Then it turned to water. A sharp startled yelp escaped her as it turned from a fluffy yet hard substance to liquid water in a matter of second. What was this crazy snow stuff?!

Barking both with confusion and yes still being a child, she talked to the snow in the only way she truly knew how. It must have been hysterical to watch the clouded gray pup, bouncing and barking at the harmless snow. Her sapphire eyes angled at the ground though she could not truly see they way her siblings saw. Instead she had her own colors to the world, she saw her siblings as light in her mind. She knew were a few things were but if she were to look at the unexplored stop in front of her she would be, well blind as a bat.

And she did just that, Victory gave up on the pointless barking as it seemed the confusing snow would not go away at her command. The girl’s tail wagged heavily as she saw the uncharted would as an adventure, though something inside her told her to stop jumping forward. She should have listened. Her soft nose collided with a rough wall, pain swelled in the area she hit. Instantly she shot back, tears filling her eyes as she took a few more steps away into the part of the land she could see. ”M.. M.. MAMMA!” Her voice cried, as she closed her useless eyes and sad in the cold snow. ”M.. Mamma!” She howled again, wanting the pain and the rough walls to go away. She wanted her mamma to make it stop.

Whispers. More whispers. He kicked out feebly at them as his eyes rolled backwards into his skull and the Denahlii boy woke up with a jump and a short growl. His voice was sleep infused as he questioned the unoccupied room of what had happened. Only after he received no answer did he realise Pandy wasn't there besides him. Hmf. That was probably the cause for his nightmares. The man rolled himself over onto his stomach and stretched out, baring sharp teeth to the world as he yawned, husky tail curling over to rest against his back as he did. The dream had started off so nice as well, with his sister running her miracle calming hands through his fur and her teeth nipping the sensitive spots behind his ears and making him wriggle.

He shivered with lust before pulling himself from the bed of furs and going on a hunt throughout the hose they shared looking for her. But the strange boy was denied the pleasures of the flesh for this morning and all that was required to make his problem body go away was a quick roll in the snow, the cold shocking 'it' into retreating. Although he was still frustrated, now he wouldn't be advertising this to the entire world, especially his other siblings and parents. A complain rumble within his throat before dieing quickly at the sounds of his youngest sister's screams. Honrin and Pandora lived only one street over from their parents and so it didn't take him long at all to navigate the back paths to cut between the two house rows.

Although he found himself already miles too late as Jace was already cradling the small young girl within her arms and singing her a soft song in that lovely voice of hers. The Ivory male sunk down to his knees to better bring his face closer to the both of them, Honrin had grown substantially taller than both his parents and sisters. The black nose was pushed forwards and sniffled at his youngest sister, then a wet tongue came out to bath the child with a comforting kiss.

She was aware that her youngest had wandered off to some part of the house but what she was not aware of was that one of the others had not shut the front door properly and as a result it had blown back open in the chilly breeze allowing the smallest Wolfe-Denahlii child to slip out into the wide world unknown to her overprotective mother. Jace was a busy woman even when she was not actively tending to her duties. At the moment she was quietly removing feathers from the bodies of several fowl she had caught for making into arrows. Both she and Honrin would benefit from these as they both had bows that they used frequently.

She was none the wiser until the girl's scream reached her ears. Reacting without thinking, without hardly seeming to falter or hesitate, Jace dropped the bird and feathers like they had suddenly burned her and sprinted for the front door that she only now realised was ajar. Trickles of fear began to well up inside of her and the door was almost thrown from its hinges as she burst through it. Relief flowed freely as her legs brought her closer to her poor blind daughter, the only mishap to occur was with a rock instead of a dangerous predator.

She scooped the sightless child up into her ashy paws...she was still so small, impossibly tiny... and hugged her close to her. "It's okay Ky Ry, Mama's here." She used the girl's own words for her name, unable to pronounce Victory in full had shortened it to two syllables, Ky Ry. She held the crying girl against her chest and sung the song that all her children had grown up knowing,

'On the wind. 'Cross the sea,
hear this song and remember.
Soon you'll be, home with me,
once upon a December.

Someone holds me safe and warm,
horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully,
across my memory.

And a song, someone sings.
Once upon a December.

In a knightly visage so did Honrin appear from the rows of snow covered houses, concern for his youngest sister clear across his face. She ceased her song as he approached and greeted him warmly. But he only had eyes for Victory,

Why were these stupid walls always around her, did they not now that they needed to move out of her way? Her body shivered under the blanket of cold air that hit her, still she whimpered. She really shouldn’t have made such a loud sound, she shouldn’t worry her mother so much but she could not help it. Her sightless eyes closed to the white world, tears still falling as she numb paws came up at touched her nose to make it stop. Why did it have to hurt so much, why was everything so big compared to herself? More whimpers escaped her as she started hearing footsteps, someone was cooling to her. More like running to her.

Without inhaling one breath she was off the cold ground, the comforting scent of her mother reached her nose. Mamma was here, mamma would make it better. Mamma made everything safe. Her tears still fell but her loud cries stifled into mimic of her mother’s singing. She just hummed to mimic the vibrations, licking her mother’s fur as she told her it was okay. Of course it was okay, mamma would take the rough walls away make them disappear.

Her eyes stayed closed as she just nuzzled into her mother’s warm fur, no longer feeling the cold from the snowy ground. She forgot to ask what the rough walls were, or even what snow was. She just hummed to her mother’s singing to show her she was feeling better, if mamma was here then Ky Ry was alright. Nothing else mattered right now; she did not even hear her brother come closer to them.

Though her useless eyes opened when her dear momma stopped her singing, what was going on? Quickly she started sniffing at the air, to find the source of the disturbance. Before she registered her brother a warm bath of saliva coated her fur, who on earth? She barked and squeaked in protest, trying to remove the strange substance from her head. Why did he have to bath her with his tongue? ”Eeeeeoooooo” She whined, as her paws desperately tried to remove the wetness. Shivering when the wind hit her. Meanie head, her brother was a meanie head for licking her like that. Finally she looked in his general direction, her eyes dancing with excitement though still teary eyed by the slight pain in her nose.
