Burning a bridge of gold

They were beautiful. So small within his his huge paws, tiny and fragile lives that he held in the palms of his hands. There were only two but they were perfect to the ivory male. The girls created by himself and Pandora. Amber eyes flickered brightly behind partially closed lids, all manner of feelings were welling up inside of his tattooed chest. His mother had been right all along, you didn't know what love was until you held your children in your arms. Honrin hadn't been a boy for a long time but looking at them now made him feel as giddy and excitable as he had been when playing with his sisters at a young age. To him they were perfect but to others they would be flawed, they would be hideous creations, born from a union of brother and sister. Ichika no Ho-en would never learn the secret from him that he was their father, not some nameless wandering womanizer.

They were brought to his chest and held there, soft noises of content coming from them, they were warm and safe and full, that was all young pups cared for at the start. Honrin could feel moisture collecting in the corner of his eyes and so set himself to pacing back and forth in an attempt to distract himself from the overwhelming flood of emotions. He was in the nursery of his parents house in Westville, where he himself had been born three years earlier. Their family had grown substantially since then and now coveted a large percentage of Ichika's numbers for themselves. Temo and Jace; Honrin, Pandora, Dalgina and Keldava, then Norea and Kail, Victory as the youngest of the lot of them and now these two youngsters, who had yet to be named. He frowned slightly as he thought of his poor blind sister, she tried so hard and he longed to restore her sight to her.

He was quiet in his pacing for not several feet from him the mother of his children slept in exhausted relaxation. He murmured to the newborns softly and rained down soft kisses onto their impossibly small heads, a noise behind him made him twist and then breathe a sigh of relief as it was only their mother come to check,

"Mother" He greeted her warmly with an one armed hug.

Many would be disgusted. Many would be ashamed or be angry, violent, eager to cast off and disown the sinners and abandon them in their time of need. But not her. Not she who had given birth to them both, as Pandora had done to their incestuous offspring. She was smaller than him, smaller than her as well and yet she resided over the scene before her like a giant surveying her land, by this default she appeared larger than both her son and her daughter, the latter of whom was asleep. She would not be so judgmental and cruel to her spawn, where she was form the act was not encouraged but nor was it frowned upon, if it happened then it happened if not then it didn't. There was no complications just simplicity like most of her ways.

He was a long time in realising that she was watching him from the hole in the wall, and the way that he greeted her told her that he thought she had not been there long, there was no jumpiness, no suspicion within his expressive eyes. His hug was returned and while she was up close she took the opportunity to observe her new grand daughters. If only Lily had been here to see them, Jace was sure she would have been so proud, as proud as she was of Jace for baring many children herself, healthy and alive. She raised an ashen paw to stroke them and one mewled, objecting the disturbance, the small cry was smiled at by the older female, the gesture severely distorting the scars upon her face that had only appeared to deepen as she had aged.

"Honrin." She spoke back, a short sentence. She was a sly old dog was Jace and her gaze slid to her oldest daughter, the first ray of sun into her life of the girls she had birthed. She knew, and she had known for quite some time, well over a year of the connection between her oldest two. Far be it for her to destroy their happiness together, within the Arctic you grabbed onto whoever you found and held on tight, lest the screaming wind tear them away from you. She knew that if she had challenged them upon it then she would have seen neither of them again, their loyalty was to each other rather than her anymore, she could live with this.

His mother was akin to some deity or goddess to him, she was the queen; like Artoi or the Great Mother and she reigned over her kingdom with a fair and just ruling, making sure that everybody was treated the same and that none received more than any other or any less. For this he loved his mother, that and a truly wide variety of other reasons, even down to her curious love of the snow. Arctic ancestry he had but arctic born he was not and preferred to keep himself free from it although this not diminish the pride he held upon his background, it just wasn't for him he supposed. He kept her close as she inspected the offspring he could never acknowledge as his own, to them he would always be uncle and never father, they would never look to him and feel pride that they had come from his strength and kindness.

The frown was pulled onto his muzzle as he prepared himself to yet again lie to his mother about their origins, about their paternal lines, about everything,

"Their father is gone. He won't ever know them, I'll make sure of it. I'll be their father in his place and I'll teach them right." Their charade had gone on for so long now that it was almost natural for lie after lie to fall from his lips into existence. He hated it, he really did, every time he had to do it a tiny part of his heart became hard and sharp like broken glass, he could not lie to his goddess his whole life could he? Maybe when they were older he would tell her and then if they needed to escape her wrath then they could do without sacrificing their lives to travel. He had to fight to keep the truth from his amber eyes.

She stepped back, away from him as he mentioned the non existent male they had made up to explain Pandora's pregnancy. She had to give him credit though for protecting her as best he could, the story he had told had made it seemed more forced than her daughter just willing to sleep around, he hadn't arrived in time to stop the fictional male from impregnating his sister. It saved Pandora's honor against those in the pack who would call her names behind closed doors and made the failing onto himself for not being more watchful of the borders.

Though the smile remained upon her face her eyes chilled down at being lied to. He had never been able to lie to her, not convincingly at least. Temo may had fallen for it but she saw straight through him like they were crystal. He was her son, she would always see through him, there was nothing he could hide from her. Her voice was carefully tempered, not accusing but factual, she was not making this into an issue, just stating that she knew the truth and that they didn't have to lie to her, they could breathe easy around her company,

"Be careful with that mask of lies, son. You might find yourself lost within it. I know the truth of you two and I've known for a very long time." The part that angered her at all about this was being lied to, even though she knew the truth anyway Jace hated being lied to although she could understand why they hadn't come to her with it, why they hadn't trusted her not to react with anger and violence.

"Your father knows nothing of this however, neither do your siblings as far as I am aware." She disliked keeping Temo in the dark about anything but this was sensitive and she didn't know how he would react, she was condoning the very thing that had upset herself... Hypocrisy at its finest.

Pandora wriggled in her sleep, the slight pains of her birth still fresh in her body. Her dreams filled of her daughters, happiness with their father and her. They were free in her dreams, free to express themselves as lovers and parents. As she could feel the warmth of her Honrin around her she smiled. Her tail twitching lightly as it wagged with delight within her dream. She could not think of names for her daughters but she knew they would come when they felt right. For now they were just their loves.

Whispers could be heard and her light sleep started to slip away from her as she whined lightly. Then the sounds became audible. Their mother had arrived and she was about to open her eyes and greet her with her usual smile. Then her words became clear, her voice a pain to Pandora’s heart. She was not pleased with her and the realization came with more pain than the idea of being caught as her brother’s lover. Was her mother displeased? Angry? Disgusted? She could not tell and the fear built up into a light whimper as her eyes carefully opened.

Mama? It was clear she was frightened now not just of their mother but what if they were exposed, their safety net of lies torn from them leaving them to fall to their dismay. What would happen to her daughters if others found out? She couldn’t tear her heavy lidded gaze from her mother then to even look at them and wanted to say everything, tell her everything. It always nagged at her like a thorn in her paw, wanting to tell her mother things daughters do for those they love and she was sure her brother felt the same. They loved their mother, their family more than anything else. Her whimpers continued lightly her body frozen in a shock and fear that refused to shake. She could never read her mother or many others so a smile was often her only sign of success. But her nature was lost in that moment the situation laden with so many possible outcomes she didn’t know what to do.

Eyes of amber widened as she spoke and his world all but crashed down around him. She knew? Of course she knew! He was stupid to have thought he could deceive her with something so huge, so monumental. Fear blossomed strong and overpowering through his chest and seeped into his golden amber eyes, she took a step back as he did as well, clutching his children closer to his chest as he did so. He would protect them, even from the woman who was so close to his heart that only one other beat her in this. He didn't want to but he would. Images of his mother bleeding and hurt on the ground, caused by his own paws flashed before his eyes and the man felt sickness rising in his throat. The man finally realised he was trembling, shaking like a new born calf in the cold wind.

He tried to speak, opened his mouth and then shut it again, a low whine coming from his maw and mingling with the one that the now awakened Pandora produced. She too was scared, frightened of their beautiful mother and the wrath she could unleash on the pair. Honrin would be stupid to think he could ever hurt her just like he could not lie to her. Jace would have him disemboweled before he could even make a move to thwart her. She had passed on her ceremonial knives to Pandora two years prior but had procured long before that a set of even deadlier looking weapons made from the tusks of some huge animal he had no knowledge of.

Pandora's cry almost broke his heart and he shifted position again, as Jace spoke, to stand in front of her, hiding her from Jace's eyes. If she should punish anyone then let it be him, let it be his skin that was sliced and his blood spilled instead of his love's, his sister's. It was a stand off, what would she do now that she made her knowledge of them a wide statement. His mother had always been unusually hard to read when she wished to be.

Her aged eyes took in the both of them, and she felt a tad tired as well as a little upset. They thought she would hurt them? That she would destroy the perfect little family they were trying to make of themselves. The hybrid sighed and rubbed her face with an ashen paw that was missing a finger. The feeling of the stump prompted her to raise her similar finger lacking other paw, the badges of pride she had forfeited for revenge and the avengement of her family, of them all, the missing inch and a half of her tail as well. Was it worth it, had it been worth it? Yes.

Her attention snapped back to her fearful children and wished that they were small again so that things could be simple. where a soothing song and a hug would make everything better for them. Honrin her son, he was so brave. Placing himself directly in the line of fire, standing between his mate, for all intents and purposes and the threat, her. She remembered all so clearly doing the same when they were young, a falcon and a sooty coated girl and an apologetic collie dog. If it had been needed she would have torn the pair of them to shreds just to keep her daughter safe,

"I am not mad. I'm not going to hurt you or them. How could I? You are all my babies." Her voice was slow, soothing and calm. Her body the same so, tail even going so far as to wag slightly. Her mouth was pulled down though, down into a hurt frown that they would think such of her. It was painful to see her children so afraid of her, like Shiloh was, like Argul had been before she had killed him, like so many others that flashed before her eyes, some of the faces without names and others names without faces. She was not a monster.

ooc: Had a neat colour idea for one of them Smile but so far just for the face and one eye XD only heard rumors I will have to research that. And one should totally have Tourette's or Aspbergers XD

Pandora's whimpers remained like a low constant whine as her mother spoke and Honrin stood before them. Finally when her mother stopped speaking she thought long and hard at her words. It’s true, they were their mother’s babies and now her daughters would be hers. She had hoped anyway. She sat up and settled a hand softly upon Honrin’s calf. Dearest let mother see our children. Pandora had been terrified when she discovered she was pregnant hearing tales of pups being devoured for being deformed from incest. But it was as though they had been blessed and their children were perfect. There had only been the two and both survived. The only sign of their act was the partially grey merle spotted face of one of their children, briefly she noticed a slight whiteness to the eye of that side but otherwise they looked amazing. It would be time to tell if they had any other attributes that might make them abnormal but who was normal these days. She gave her brother a hopeful look that she trusted their mother and knew it wouldn’t be hard to convince the male. Even with her displeased face their mother wouldn’t lie to them she was sure of it. I think Honrin should name them at the ceremony… I myself can’t put a name to their beauty. What do you think mother? Even with the fear moments ago still lingering she was ready to accept her mother into their little world of happiness and dreams. Her pride as a mother seeping through her every bristle as a smile drew across Pandora's face. They were her joy and no one would or could ever take that away from them. Not with Honrin there to protect them, not with her mother there to guide them. Their large family ever growing and she knew these two would be a special addition for they were of their family and their family alone.
