OOC Feb 1

The feeling still hadn't gone away, and Terra was still feeling very dissatisfied, and very moody. Especially since whenever she came close to the mysterious goal her wolf instincts kicked in, telling her that she couldn't with just any stranger. The specifics never came to mind, just that it would be someone that would stay with her for a long time. That meant no silver gypsy, no playful wolf, no nothing. It drove her mad! Trying to let off some excess energy Terra had come to the neighboring pack, rubbing her body along the borders. It was satisfying doing that, leaving her own personal message for the pack members to find. The code was unknown to her, but she knew it told people to come, and fast.

Only every other spot was marked, as Terra didn't want to seem like an intruder. The message was very important though, and she had to get it out now. Terra needed attention now. The press of the festival was always satisfying to the burning female, but Terra still wanted more, and thought that she'd have a greater chance if she spread her grounds. There wasn't much luck in the neutral territories, but maybe a pack, with lots of canines, would have what she wanted.

There was little he could do while his mate and pups slept. He didn’t want to leave them, but he hadn’t walked the borders in a few days, and with Shaw having left, he knew he would need to. He shifted into the secui form after removing his jeans. Quick but powerful. He didn’t use it often, but when he did, he appreciated the underused form. He understood why Haku had often gone around in the secui form.

The calico female, which he’d named Sheba, followed him everywhere. She slept across his feet when he napped or slept in bed with Sky. She watched him do everything. It was endearing and disturbing at the same time. Now she was following him to the borders.

As he neared the border, a sickly sweet smell meet him. He drew in a deep breath. A female from the court was on their borders, and it smelled like she was in heat. Dueling emotions warred in him, one basic instinct, one common sense. Go and top her, make her bear pups into the world. Go and tell her to return to the safety of the court, to the sheltering arms of her pack.

He could see her now, a slender brown female, rubbing her sinuous body against the trunk of a tree. He approached her from upwind so the wind blew his scent to her before he arrived. Still, Sheba arrived before he did. He stood his ground, his chest puffed out, his body held in a high ranking position. He was council, he was the next thing to a leader for the pack.

”What are you doing on D’Arte borders?” The scent of her heat was intoxicating, and he had his mate waiting at home. The intoxication of her scent made his voice gruffer than usual.

She hadn't known who she was signalling, but Terra wasn't surprised that it was a male that answered her call. It was the most natural thing in the world for Terra, her body burning even brighter as his scent reached her. He was powerful, in his secui form by the sounds of his steps. Turning Terra shifted into secui form to match him, muscles thickening and her body stretching as she grew a little, though still smaller than him. Terra crouched down, submissive. She didn't want him to mistake it as an attack. Her tail swayed to the side, and hung there, thumping the ground.

The answer seemed rather obvious to Terra, though the exact details escaped her mind. His voice was gruff, and Terra whined happily at the sound. She nudged forward a little, wanting to get closer. Maybe he could give her what she wanted. Placing my message, of course. I need someone. Who was beyond her, as well as the why, but that was what she was doing. You're not mad, are you mister? I can leave if you wish. She'd just find another pack. This one was just the closest for her. Or did you come to answer?

She crawled forward, and he straightened, looking down at her. Her soft whine made him growl softly, his mismatched eyes glittering. He took a deep breath to steady his impulses, reminding himself he was mated, his mate had their puppies waiting at home, and this.... Courtier wasn't going to seduce him no matter how alluring her scent. "Why aren't you in your own pack, Courtier?" He watched her, his voice still gravelly and rough.

Her soft words made him cock his head quizzically. "Your message." His words were soft and blunt. "Why don't you go to your mate to answer your... message?" At her offer to leave, he spoke quickly, his voice sharper than intended. "No. Stay, child." He knew that others wouldn't hesitate to try and force their will on her, especially since she appeared to be between one and two years old. He stood dominantly over her, his position in the council giving his voice the authority he needed to get her to listen if she was so inclined.

Being a medic, he was used to judging a wolf's mental status by their actions. This wolf hybrid was in heat, and he wasn't sure if she knew what was going on or not. He would wait for her response to him, then he would judge whether or not he needed to sit her down and give her the talk about the birds and the bees. She seemed young and confused in some way, though he wasn't quite sure.

His eyes glittered as she approached him, growling in approval. Her tail thumped softly as he tried to pull himself away, distance himself. That wasn't what Terra wanted. His reactions were so good, so satisfying. Just push a little more and maybe he would give her what he wanted. He was having trouble keeping himself in check, which was amusing for her. Terra wasn't checking herself at all, having always run on instinct and and seeing no need to change such things. If her instincts told her to respond a certain way, she did. None of this checking. Then again, even normal wolves checked themselves. Maybe it came with age or something, knowing how to behave. Still young, Terra lacked that. My pack's small. Not enough there, and no one to answer. Her head drooped slightly at the reminder, though quickly perked up at his words.

Her ears pulled back in confusion, her head cocking to the side. I don't have a mate. Why would he be the one to answer it anyways? His words were right though, and fit into part of the puzzle. That's why she kept on being stopped. Terra needed a mate. She just didn't know how to go around getting one. That was the tough part. Never fear though. Such a problem had never stopped Terra for long before. She'd find a mate, however long it took, and the burning would stop in full pleasure. He told her to stay, and her tail thumped wildly against the ground, a whine of pleasure escaping her. He wanted her to stay. Oh goody.

He watched her, listened to her words, watched her reactions. "I don't have a mate. Why would he be the one to answer it anyways?" That sealed it, he knew what was going on. She was in heat, but she'd never had it explained to her before. He cocked his head as she sat, his eyes studying her closely. "What is your name, child?" He wondered where her parents were, and why things hadn't been explained to the younger female.

He shifted his weight on his paws, watching her. After a moment, he spoke again. "I am Taliesin dir Rhiannon, Protettore and medic of Cercatori D'Arte. Am I wrong in assuming that you only know the need to get your... " He hesitated for a moment, then continued. "Your message known? But you aren't quite sure why or what it means?" He watched her reaction closely, his eyes narrowed in thought.

He was already picking and choosing his words to explain the estrus cycles, the signals she was putting off, the dangers she would need to avoid. He didn't want to bring her into the pack, into his house, though he did wish his mate was there to explain things. Coming from him it would sound almost clinical, or worse, suggestive. From another woman it was one of those woman to woman, heart to heart talks. His heart sank as he realized that in a year he and Sky would be having the same talk to their offspring.

Sheba jumped onto his back, settling between his broad shoulders, yawning. She was used to traveling with him, but it was rare that he traveled like this. Usually she trailed along side of him, or in his pack. She liked this form for the white canine. Her emerald green eyes studied the female, realizing the canine female was in heat. She leapt down to her male's feet, staring at the female. After a moment she arched her back and hissed, staying close to her male's feet.

Tal broke his pensive gaze to look at the feline, Sheba. After a moment, he lifted a broad paw and nudged her away. "Go home, Sheba." He looked into the feline's eyes. After a moment, Sheba turned and stalked off, making soft indignant sounds as she padded away. Tal returned his bi-colored gaze to the Courtier female.

Child again. Terra was not a child, and hadn't thought of herself as one since she'd left her birth pack when she first shifted. Sure she was ignorant, but Terra could stand her own grounds and survive on her own, something which was pretty important. She was learning quickly as well. Terra knew how to read, and write, and what cooking was. She'd even learned about making clothes. Terra had joined in on the festival too, participating in all kinds of things. Her light fingers had acquired her some nice things as well. A child. Only because she didn't know what was happening. She couldn't help it, this was her first time feeling this way. Terra.

Her tail curled tightly around her body as he spoke, introducing himself. A medic, just like Liam. That was useful to know. From his words, it sounded like Taliesin knew what was going on, though he had an awfully long name. Another oddity for Terra, the length of the canines' names. Where she came from they only had one name, not so many. She nodded her head curtly at his words, trying not to look foolish by her own admission. Yes she didn't know what it meant, just that it needed to be known.

"Terra. My friends call me Tal." He watched as she curled her tail around her body. That little gesture did much to temporarily cover the scent of her heat. He eased his body into a seated position, his eyes thoughtful. "Terra, you are in heat. That is, your body is putting off hormones to let the males around you know that you are... ready to be mated with, ready to have a litter of pups fathered with you. Thats why you keep talking about a message. That's why I told you not to leave. If you don't have a mate, you really should stay close to those who are trustworthy. There are canines out there, bad ones, who would take that message and use it to their advantage. They would use it to hurt you, to hurt your body. To rape you. To force you to have puppies without the security of a mate ship.

Trust me, Terra. While it might seem otherwise, the world is full of bad canines who would do that to you."
He was serious, his voice both flat and concerned. He couldn't impress on her how dangerous it was to be in heat and not someplace safe without a mate. It had happened to his mother at different times in her life, and he knew it had happened to others, especially the females in Phoenix Valley. Those occurrences had been thanks to Lucifer, the pale scholar's sire. Happily, he was nothing like the male who had impregnated his mother once upon a time.

He watched Terra's face. "Ask me anything, Terra, and I will answer it for you. I only want to help you, not frighten you."

Given the nickname Terra's tail thumped lightly on the ground. Tal was much easier to say than Taliesin. She grinned cheekily at his words. Friends called him that? Guess that made her a friend, albeit one that had just met. She wanted to tease him, tugging and pulling until she got what she wanted, but Terra managed to remain still, ears focused on his words instead of flitting around for sounds that pleased her. As he began to explain, Terra's ears twitched uncertainly. She certainly didn't know what hormones were, but mating was something she understood, as well as puppies. It explained why it felt like a message that was so important. Terra understood how pups held one's future within them, making them the most important thing for a pack to protect.

She didn't feel particularly ready for such a thing though. Or did she? Terra remembered the motherly way she'd cared for Sophie, different from her usual clumsy interactions with the young that were normally based on keeping herself entertained and the pups out of danger. That meant one big thing to Terra though. She needed a mate. Terra didn't know how she was supposed to find one, but find one she would. There was no other option. Her ears flattened against her head as Tal spoke about others hurting her, forcing puppies upon her against her will. Granted, Terra wouldn't put up much of a fight in this state of mind, but regret would be a big part of it. Terra looked at Tal pleadingly. Will I always be like this? Would it end, or would Terra always crave someone to help her make pups?
