Nova Scotia Ocean - En Route to the Festival

---

The Meria Lea surged into another wave, the swell of water
breaking against the bow of the ship and scattering spray over the deck. While not exactly stormy the ship wasn't travelling through calm waters att he moment and it showed, the deck was slippery with water and tilting from side to side constantly as the Meria hit wave after wave.

Anything that wasn't nailed down had either been shoved into one of the several storage compartments or tied down against the waves, a precaution Neela had taken earlier which had paid off. Off course the risk of actually loosing something was greatly reduced on this particular voyage as Neela had a passenger, Jace's daughter Dalgina. Not only was Neela quite fond of the rambunctious young canine but she was also terrified of the sheer thought of what Jace would do to her if Dalgina were injured from falling off the boat so she had taken precautions; the thick, rope netting that Neela usually used for carrying large quantities of fish was strewn about the boats railings and reinforced with regular rope, there was no chance of Dalgina falling off the boat accidentally.

From her position in-front of the wheel Neela stood firm, her body shifting and moving with the tilting of the boat so that she never moved from her position, a deceptively simple looking but hard to accomplish act that showed the collie's dexterity and experience on a boat, Neela had practically been raised on the sea and had sailed many times before in waters much rougher than this.

Dalgina on the other hand had none of this experience and was still young enough to be locked into her Lupus form. Technically the young puppy was supposed to be in the sleeping quarters, a raised section of the ship enclosed from the outside and lined with pillows and blankets currently located behind Neela. However with all her attention on remaining upright and the wheel and the entrance behind her Neela had no illusions about the puppy's compliance with those orders; if she hadn’t snuck out for at least a few looks around Neela would have been surprised.

The movement of the ship lulled for a moment and Neela gave a start as her battle with the wheel suddenly became much easier. Looking around in the water it seemed that the Meria had come out of the rough water, the swells ahead looking much more tame. As Neela looked around a smile caught on her face, off to the front of them the sun was just beginning to set, the globe of fire dropping and lighting the sea up a beautiful orange. With no terrain to block the suns failing rays the sight was beautiful.

Deciding that the spectacle was pretty enough and the water now calm enough Neela leaned her head back, calling out behind her. "Dalgina! You okay back there? Come out here, I want you to see something"

Riding the boat was fun! Dalgina wobbled around unsteadily, sent sliding as they hit the waves. Her body would be covered in bruises if it weren't for the blankets and pillows Neela had set up for her. Sticking her nose out the door Dalgina had tripped on the roping, trying to get a good look. A squeal escaped her as water splashed onto the boat, sending her scurrying back into her little section where Dalgina was nice and dry, and not covered in nasty tasting cold water. Shaking her fur out Dalgina snuck another look, and decided that it would be alright if she came out for a little bit. After all, Neela was out there and nothing bad had happened to her.

Dalgina trotted over to the edge, and gasped as a giant wave appeared on the horizon. Convinced it would swallow them whole Dalgina backed up, only to feel the ship arc up and cut through the wave. The motion sent her tumbling to the side, knocking against the wood. Dalgina whined complainingly. The wood wasn't very nice to crash into. It was more fun sliding around on the blankets and stuff inside, where she was safe. Dalgina got ready to toddle back to there when the boat settled. Neela's voice called out, telling Dalgina to come and look at something.

She came up to the collie, tiny body pressed against the big dog. Dalgina peered around, trying to see what Neela was looking at. Dalgina's eyes widened, tail wagging rapidly. The whole world was dyed a bright orange, everything glowing with light. Streaks of color shot up into the darker purple blue, an amazing spectacle by any means. Dalgina barked excitedly, moving to race to the stern. It was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen.

Neela smiled as she felt Dalgina's tail beating furiously against her leg for a ffew seconds before the puppy raced off away from her. Neela didn't move nor say anything as the pupyp raced towards the edge of the boat but her actions betrayed her nervousness with the child being so close to the waters edge, leg muscles tense, eyes fixed on the puppy's back and free hand ready to pull the lever that would lock the wheel into place.

"This is one of the reasons why I love sailing so much." Neela's voice echoed up the ship towards Dalgina, oddly calm as Neela focused on the beautiful sunset and not the pup which was standing so close to the edge, mentally reminding herself of the nets and ropes when her mind wandered in that direction, "Yeah its possible to see stuff like this from the shore but to me it always seems much closer when I'm out here on the sea, more vivid." Neela leaned forwards onto the wheel, her gaze travelling once more over Dalgina but with less stress this time, having successfully calmed herself down. "What do you want to do when you're older Dalgina?" Neela wasn't entirely sure if she understood the question yet but there was no harm in asking.

OOC not using your table for this one! yours is dreamy, vesper's is adventurous-well, more so

Dalgina wagged her tail happily as Neela spoke, sitting down where she was less likely to fall over. The spray of the sea hit her face, her tongue flicking out to catch the salty drops. It was amazing, tasting the sea and feeling the wind, watching the tochina change in a way that she'd never seen before. All her senses drowned in pleasure, her nose working overtime to catch the scents of places brought from the land and the depths of the sea. I love it too! A little bit bold, considering this was her first time, but Dalgina truly felt like she loved every inch of it.

Neela's next question was a little confusing for the pup. Growing up was hard for her to picture, though it got easier as more and more time passed, her understanding of the world and what was in it growing each day. She turned around, trotting back over to where Neela was. Um...I wanna make pretty things! Like, like how the tochina looks right now! It was a big dream, trying to make beauty just like the things that surrounded her.

Neela's tail wagged happily at Dalgina's excited statement and her head cocked to one side as she tried to puzzle an actual meaning out of Dalgina;s response to her question. "Make… you mean like make pictures of it? An artist?" The only other thing Neela could think of from those words was that Dalgina wanted to become some sort of god and literally make sunset, which was rather disconcerting; overall the former option seemed more likely.

Neela leaned down over the wheel, arms crossed and tongue hanging out happily, "That sounds like a good thing to aim for, maybe you can make me something pretty to decorate the Meria?" Neela half asked and half joked, letting a giggle pass her lips before she returned her attention to the boat, tightening her grip on the wheel as a lone wave struck the vessel before loosening it again, humming happily as she cast her gaze to the horizon."

Dalgina's eyes widened at Neela's response. There was a word for what she wanted to be! Dalgina hadn't known that. Excited to tell everyone she was gonna be an artist now Dalgina raced to the front of the ship, looking over the edge for land to come in sight. It didn't seem like there was any yet, disappointing the tiny pup. She wouldn't be able to tell anyone what she was thinking about. Except Neela, but she already knew what Dalgina was thinking.

Neela's invitation to decorate the boat cheered Dalgina up immensely. Tail wagging happily she came back over, feeling a little tired from all the excitement now. Curling up at the dog's feet she stared at the water before them. It seemed like they'd never find land, the water stretching on forever. I will! Something with lots of water! That seemed like a good idea, though no exact image jumped into her mind.

Several hours later - Near the festival

Neela kept a sedate pace as she wandered through the trees, brown furred arms holding her precious package to her chest, nestling the small puppy against her fluffy chest fur. Getting Dalgina off of the boat once they ahd docked had been interesting but not too difficult, climbing on and off a boat one handed was a basic skill for a sailor, and from there they had travelled as the crow flies. In order to both speed the trip up and save Dalgina's energy for when they arrived.

Dalgina had fallen asleep soon after, the puppy having gotten herself excited and tired during the boat ride. Walking along with the sleeping puppy resting against her chest was oddly comfortable and old maternal instincts were reawakening within Neela. Dalgina was cute, happy and overall enjoyable to be around. It was almost enough to make Neela want pups of her own again, but…

Down that path of thoughts lay a dangerous road and Neela was glad when a glow in the distance distracted her from those thoughts. The sun had finished its descent during the walk from the boat but the festival was still going strong, large fires casting a strong orange glow on the surrounding forest. If Neela listened closely she could just about here the voices of the festival-goers.

Gently Neela leaned her head down and licked Dalgina between the ears, softly but just hard enough to hopefully wake the puppy up. "Dalgina, wake up sweetie. Look, we're nearly there" Neela tightened the grip of her right arm and freed her left to indicate the orange glow spreading throughout the trees before returning both arms to their previous positions.

despite being visible the festival was still a good 10 minutes walk away so, double checking once more that her grip on Dalgina was secure, Neela began to sing softly to the puppy as she walked, tail wagging gently behind her.

OOC she's gonna be too big to carry soon. 4 months=1/3 grown

The excitement of the boat had kept Dalgina bouncing around for quite some time. Catching the fresh salty breeze and lapping at the sprays that had hit the boat had her moving around a lot. Eventually she'd returned to the small room that was covered in pillows. Hitting them Dalgina had fallen asleep. All the fresh air and new things had the small puppy's mind tumbling over and over again, trying to keep up and register everything that was happening. Her sleep was deep, allowing her to be scooped up and carried without noticing.

Dalgina whined a little as she felt herself shift. A soft tongue pressed at Dalgina. Her large eyes blinked open, rubbing at her face. She wasn't on the boat anymore. Curiously she looked around. The world was dark, with bright glowing orange in the distance. Her tail began to wag happily as she saw the place they would be going to. It looked like magic, sparkling in the distance. Dalgina wanted to race down as fast as she could, but wasn't able to. Neela sung quietly, with Dalgina humming along at parts as they finally, finally reached the festival.

There were all kinds of canines around them, noisy and celebrating. Bright colors were everywhere, with fires lighting up the place. Many of the merchant shops were closed now, with the rowdier games opening to the night club. Everything was so beautiful. Dalgina's brown eyes shone with joy as she looked around, trying to take everything in. There was so much! Not even in many, many days could she see everything that was there. Neela! We see everything?

She's a maniac, maniac on the floor

Neela Garcia

And she's dancing like she's never danced before

Sorry bout the wait.

Neela smiled gently down at Dalgina, licking the puppy across the head. "Yes sweetie, we'll see everything." she said indulgently, one eye on Dalgina and the other hovering around the crowd observantly. While Neela didn’t feel in any particular danger at the festival but it would only take a moment of carelessness for a puppy to become injured.

The festival was just as Neela remembered it: noisy, bright and full of life. Even this late in the night the place was packed full with canines, though the flow or traffic had changed from the tents it tended to orbit during the day to the fires a small distance away that were set at night. Even with the main tents shut up for the night there were still a fair amount of traders trying their luck with the night crowd, some, such as those selling alcohol, were more successful than others.

Neela adjusted her grip, bringing Dalgina up higher so that she could see better and laying her head on top of the black puppy's, her voice gentle to adjust for her mouth being closer to Dalgina's ears. "What would you like to see first Dalgina?" She asked.

Promised that they'd be able to see everything Dalgina settled happily into Neela's arms. The lick was nice. She snuggled up into the thick scruff of the collie, enjoying the soft feel of the fur, thick and snuggly. Lifted up higher Dalgina was able to see everything much better. Her eyes glittered as she craned her neck around. She could see silver flashes of something, and everyone was wearing things that were so bright. In comparison Dalgina was rather drab, a dark smudge against the celebration. Even Neela was colorful, bright red fur blending with the white so prettily.

Neela's head was tucked up close. She felt safe amongst all the crowd and noise, knowing her friend would protect her. The words whispered in her ear was so quiet, pitched just for her. Ears twitching in response Dalgina looked around. There was a big tent with many, many canines crowded around. Dalgina couldn't see what was there, but it was enough to trigger her curiosity. There! Dalgina stuck her nose out, pointing towards it. Immediately the smell of cooked meat distracted her. Her head whipped around, eying the treat. Food?
