Never Grow Up

WC:

Captain oblivious, that was his name and not knowing what his mate had been doing with herself was the game. The behemoth was exactly that busy, most of their wares except for the things he had brought to trade had been traded so at least on that respect they had done well, even if X’y had been the one doing most of the trading. X’y had wandered off a hour or so ago, and he had done so too, since after all there wasn’t much going on. Today was one of the few days he hadn’t been wearing his armor, or making a show of much of anything, he was just honestly tired of the festival for the most part. While it had been fun and exciting the attractions themselves could only keep him interested for four or five days. What had been more interesting was X’y his soon to be wife, and their exploits.

Her howl reached his ears and the excited inflection to it meant something was going on. Maybe there was something worth seeing after all. The urge to shift had been getting to him, too much time had been spent walking around on two legs, wasn’t natural. So in a crowd full of people, he shifted to a more comfortable form, four paws graced the earth against the eyes of those who had watched and judged such an act indecent. But he really could careless; they were the same eyes that looked upon his chest and back where proof of his mates love still clung to him. At least that was the g-rated version of the tail, anyone who knew anything knew how he got them, and most of them had been kept up that night while the two had done things best left for a more mature rated outlet.

The behemoth wandered back toward their tent and cart, his pace a bit quickened to see what all the fuss was about. Soon his blue hues looked upon the scene, two puppies sitting and giving X’y their undivided attention, their backs turned to his entrance. He didn’t dare ruin the moment as he gazed upon his mate in such a situation, almost wishing the two little pups where their own. He could see the mother in X’y, and while he hated to ever admit that he had a sentimental side to him, it made his heart warm to see this. Finally his body moved, moving silently up behind clearing his throat softly to announce his presence to the two little ones without starling them too much. Days like this really put into perspective just how big the two of them where, X’y and Saluce both towered over the two pups like they were mere playthings. But what better place for them to be? Because no one in their right mind would try to bring harm to the two excited little ones with presents.

“What do we have here?” he stated with an amused grin on his face as he looked across as X’y and then to the two sitting before him. “You two must be good traders, because X’y is very difficult to trade with, you must have done something extra special to have gotten those pelts.” He stated with a bit of a chuckle.

Sophie's ears flicked atop her head as X'yrin agreed with her, about what she wasn't absolutely certain, though that was elaborated a moment later. She felt herself relax a bit, and even dared to smile, though her tail remained firmly curled against her backside. As she continued, however, Sophie brightened, and even Boothe looked up, before his shoulders rolled in a little shrug. Yes, there were all sorts of things puppies could do that adults couldn't; find elves, for one, even though Mordy was one adult who wouldn't stop looking, that was for sure. Sophie bet they could even fight trolls! And they played games, something you seemed to grow out of when you got older--at least, she'd never found Leon playing a game. And he wasn't that much older than she was!

Boothe wasn't thinking along the same lines, if he were thinking at all; the look on his face betrayed nothing, and he'd gone very still, a sign that surely meant he was waiting to be struck. Sophie nuzzled up to him until her head was tucked underneath his chin and they were so close together it was hard to tell where one began and the other ended. She didn't want her brother to feel bad; especially as X'yrin was slowly explaining she was on their side, but it took a sharp little nip to his jaw before he came back to himself, scrambling away to a more comfortable distance and glaring sullenly.

Boothe blinked up as X'yrin spoke again, first excusing them and then explaining this was probably simply not where Leon had meant, even if it was still the fairgrounds. Boothe glanced over at Sophie, his ears laid flat, and she stared back hesitantly before nuzzling up to him again. "If Leon gets mad, I'll tell 'im it was my idea, okay?" She whined softly, and got a snap of teeth in her face in return, startling her enough to back away a bit. "No you won't!" He barked, and then, much more quietly and with a shy glance at X'yrin, he added more softly, "I ain't gonna let him hit you like Faffer. He wants to get touchy, he'll do it with my teeth." The words were somewhat dark, hinting at something even darker, but they were pitched to only reach Sophie's ears, and probably would have, if Boothe had taken into account the male sneaking up behind them.

Sophie turned just in time, a bit surprised to see the large male there, and backed uncertainly toward X'yrin. Boothe followed, placing himself firmly between his little sister and the much larger male. He appeared friendly, though, and seemed to be acquainted with Miss X'yrin, causing both puppies to blink between the two curiously. "What's a trade?" Sophie asked curiously, and then glanced up as X'yrin mentioned food, looking uncertain. Boothe glanced between them as well, and finally decided for her, as Sophie seemed quite frozen for some reason. "Food sounds great! Er...d'we have to trade for it?" His voice was rather suspicious, as the only things they had for trade were the pelts they'd just been gifted. He, at least, had hung around the marketplace long enough to know what it was; but he didn't know more than how to was done, giving one thing for another, and that didn't seem fair, especially since X'yrin herself had said they were gifts.

Unless it was a scam. Oh, how tricky and confusing adults were!

ooc:

An odd feeling had begun to take hold of her. The longer she watched the pair interact, the stronger she felt this sensation overcome her. It was almost like the onset of a sickness that her body was too weak to combat against, but instead of succumbing to symptomatic weakness and coughs, she felt herself grow steadily warmer and more comfortable. A different kind of smile touched her lips as she felt the strain of forced appeasement wear away. She felt… content… happy. Not the kind that stemmed from fulfillment of duty or accomplishing a good deed, but something new all together that she could not place. But she liked it, strangely enough, and for once she was not frightened for not knowing what she felt.

She admired Boothe’s bravery as she intended to stick up for his sister, baring a protective front against the possibility of harsh disciplinary actions. As one that had suffered the lash from disobedience herself, she could not rightly find herself alarmed by what she heard, rather hoping that it wouldn’t be too extreme of a hurt on the two. “If he gets upset with you, I’ll talk to him if you’d like,” she offered. “There is no reason for the two of you to get into trouble of something I led.” And perhaps an adult presence would assure their caregiver that the pups were speaking the truth, or so she reasoned.

Her assumption that her mate was waiting in their tent was disproved the moment she heard his approaching heavy steps. No wonder he hadn’t come running when she called… he wasn’t even there to begin with! Her lowered tail immediately rose to its full height upon seeing him as she whined just as excitedly. “Sal-“ her brows raised curiously when her eyes were drawn down to the pups skirting closer to her for safety, obviously unaware of the familiar relation the woman had with the large male. Kindly, she lowered her head to be level with the two and whispered just for their ears to hear. “He won’t hurt you. He’s my ‘special fur’.” She felt it was doubtful the pups would understand that concept of a mate… let alone a husband, so she played with what she figured they would understand based on their prior conversation.

Saluce complimented them on being good traders, earning a chuckled from the she-wolf as she was made to explain what happened. “The furs are their gifts. We met at Macarius’s tent and their ‘fortune’ said that they would receive a gift,” she gestured with a bob of her head that she was the maker of said fortune. Carefully she stepped around the pups and padded over to her mate to grasp an ear by her maw, tugging lightly albeit excitedly for him to come closer. “They are Boothe and Sophie,” she mouthed around the captured ear then released it and favor of playfully pouncing at his shoulder to show his harmless disposition. “Apparently they were supposed to stay on the fairgrounds, but we’ve decided that technically they still are.” Smiling, she looked at the two. “Isn’t that right?”

Saluce simply watched what transpired, not quite sure what was going on and whether or not X’y had kidnapped again. Blues looked across at her questioningly before it seemed she had some words for their ears only. Ears perked up but her voice was kept low enough he was totally unaware of the topic of their discussion but he had a guess as to whom the topic was about, when her eyes betrayed her. Saluce for the most part let X’y explain what he meant, he wasn’t used to puppies taking everything literally, but he wasn’t around them much anymore.

As X’y approached he stood straight and sniffed along her neck almost instinctually, before rubbing against her. She carried on about the reasoning as to how they came across the furs and a broad grin slowly moved across his face.

“Oh so they are fortune? Well, you two are very lucky then.” He replied before his ear was tugged and pulled on by the urging of his mate. He wasn’t sure what had come over her, he couldn’t remember her acting in such a way but it wasn’t terrible. Her playful antics only brought on a confused look he gave her. Sometimes the disconnect he had with social situations was drastic. They weren’t that young, such antics weren’t necessary in his mind but he played along.

“Booth and Sophie” he repeated before looking over at her. Growing more worried about the way she came across the two, more so than what was going on at the moment.

X'yrin overheard their quiet argument, and they blinked at her, Sophie's ears pressing back shyly before she smiled weakly. Boothe quieted as well, looking away from both of them. They didn't know Leon very well--he always seemed to be out and about, and though it was obvious he loved them a lot, he didn't really show it--so it was impossible for them to tell if her offer would help at all. It was impossible for them to tell if they should be worried in the first place; Sophie rather hoped they shouldn't be, but you never knew. Carefully, she sidled closer to her brother, and laid her head along his neck, stretching up as best she could to do it, so that they cuddled together quietly, not quite acknowledging X'yrin's offer but not rejecting it, either. They just couldn't be sure.

Boothe didn't like not being sure.

At the appearance of the strange man, the puppies shuffled closer to the one they already knew, and then watched with wide eyes as X'yrin walked up to him and began tugging teasingly on his ear and cuddling with him. She told them he was her "special fur", but even after their previous conversation, they didn't get it. Boothe and Sophie looked at each other, and then shuffled yet further away, scrambling a bit before ending up in a bit of a heap together, Boothe's head laying along the back of Sophie's neck and green eyes watching them warily.

They nodded quietly at the large male's words, calling them lucky, and blinked up at him, but didn't remove themselves from the small dogpile they'd made, Sophie's ears laid flat against her head and her eyes flicking to his face and away, as though she were very shy, or perhaps nervous. He was even larger than their father had been, and much larger than Leon; she couldn't help but be slightly afraid, and even Boothe fell quiet and anxious in his presence.

As he said their names, both gazes snapped back to him, and then away again, and two pairs of ears flattened against tiny skulls. "Yes, sir," They chorused, and glanced at each other nervously, pressing closer together. He was frightening, truly; they didn't know why X'yrin looked so happy to see him.

WC:255 (pp'd x'y in this post)

The grey male looked upon their skittish forms with a bit of curiosity and freight. He didn’t intend to scare the little cute bundles of fur, not when they were too cute and to nice. No this wouldn’t do blues watched them and he disregarded his mate for the moment, since for now it didn’t really matter how she had come across them. Long limbs slowly folded as the big male lowered himself to the ground and then rolled over rather clumsily in a show as X’y continued to shower attention to him.

“oooofff,” he said with an implied inflection as paws stood straight in the air. This was his way of showing he wasn’t someone that would harm them, a show of submission, and an act of silliness. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as his mate set about nipping and jumping around him playfully as they worked together to show the two of them that he was no threat to them.

“Oh no, I think I’m done for, if only their where two young heroes who could save me!” he cried out as he gave his mate a loving look. Saluce acting very much like he had shed several years of life and reverted back to a younger period. X’y did her part jumping a top him and wrestling with him as he feigned defeat, while she took some liberties, her nips a little hard but he didn’t really mind.

“Please help, I’ll pay you with a feast!” he called out in a louder voice.

Sophie hunched slightly under the large male's gaze, and then shuffled closer to her brother, who took a more protective stance as it appeared Sophie was the more uncertain of the two. However, when X'yrin managed to push him over onto his back, and he began crying out for help, the two puppies looked at each other and did the sort of silent communication only twins--and those few exceptionally close people--could do. Another moment, and he'd called out something about a feast, which meant very little to them; they didn't know what a feast was. Thus, their choice was very easily made.

Boothe moved first, bounding forward to take a flying leap at Saluce's mostly-unprotected backside and beginning to growl and nip at him, his tail wagging a bit. If the male would let X'yrin do something like that to him, he didn't fear retaliation, much; but he was a very big male and needed to be brought down. At least, in Boothe's mind. Sophie, for her part, padded around to his head, which may have been more dangerous but was, in her mind, better than his butt, and sat down, staring at him intently. The others seemed to be doing their jobs particularly well--especially Boothe, who was going to town on him--and didn't really need any help from her.

She wanted to contribute a little, though, and so lifted a paw and patted at his face a bit, growling playfully. "You're big. And bad." She proclaimed, and paused to think for a minute, before grinning brightly. "You're the big bad wolf! We gossa stop you." She nodded seriously, and then pawed at his face some more, before flopping down and making to chew on one of his ears.

WC:300, think X'y will be rejoining us in the posting order soon

When the two kids moved toward him, he thought they were on his side, but soon enough tiny little teeth attempted to find a weakness within his heavily furred form. He was being attacked! And punished he guessed, but he didn’t mind. Part of being so big was he had big shoulders, and big shoulders meant he could carry a lot and not be burdened, physically and mentally. He mockingly squirmed under the onslaught as X’y was no help, her teeth where indeed long enough and she was indeed naughty enough to do what the young boy was not able to, penetrate fur and bring painful little nips to his underside.

But he remained docile, especially with their frail bodies so near, no need getting excited and rolling over on one and harming them. Blue’s gave his mate a loving look, indeed he hoped some day they would have their own brood, and he was sure she would send them all his way when they grew to rowdy for her to deal with. He let out mocking whimpers and soft groans as each fabled attacked sent over exaggerated displays of pain or hurt from him.

But the most damning attack came from the curious little female batting at him and proclaiming him a big bad wolf. Normally that wasn’t something he would care to correct, after all he’d rather be feared from those who didn’t know him, but he didn’t really like it though when it was spoken. But her voice was too innocent to harm him too much and with her enthusiasm she finished it off by gnawing on a sensitive ear and he continued the charade.

“OH no I think…” he drew it out a little longer “you got…… me.” He let out a long drawn out death scene before finally he shuddered and fell silent.

Word Count → 292 :: I hope so...

X'yrin continued to help them, and though her attacks seemed to help far more than the small puppies' did on their own, they soon 'got' the male. Sophie paused in gnawing on his ear, lifting her head to blink curiously at him as he played dead before padding her way up to his head to bat at his face again. When it appeared they really had gotten him, she let out a yip down toward her brother, who barked back happily, bounding along the large wolf's side to tackle his little sister. Sophie let out a little yelp, and kicked at him with her hind legs, pushing into the softness of his underbelly. They wrestled for a moment, but Boothe came out the clear winner, and then the pups hopped away from each other.

Sophie shook herself off, panting slightly and then snapped her teeth playfully at her brother, her tail wagging. They'd done it! Well, more like X'yrin had done it, really, but still! They'd helped! Rather pleased with herself and the world in general, Sophie padded around in a little circle, shaking herself off before nosing her brother gently and moving to gather her new pelt up in her maw. Boothe did the same, and they wiggled under them, balancing the furs precariously on their backs and heads, and finally the two were left covered once more. The twins growled at each other, and then began an odd little circling dance, as though they were about to wrestle again.

The adults were mostly ignored for the moment in favor of continuing the game, deciding who the winner among them was; Boothe would no doubt come out on top, but for once, Sophie was determined to get her share in, too.

Their little game had turned into quite the theatrical feat on part of her mate. She was amused that he let himself be wrestled with to this extent and played the part of the villain for the pups to loosen up around and assert their confidence around him. It was just as fun to watch as it was to engage as her own demeanor loosened up considerable as she played her part as the combatant trying to subdue the ‘bad wolf’. But the pups were doing fine on their own even without her help and with a final tap to the beast’s head, he fell still and quiet; defeated.

Feeling her mate still beneath her, X’yrin tossed her head and howled for the pups triumph reveling in the downfall of their villain. Enthralled in this spontaneous act, she slipped off the beast’s corpse and proceeded to parade around his body just as little Sophie had done only to go barreling into her brother in play. Wearing an elated smile, she waltzed around to her mate’s head, paws literally dancing on the thinly laid snow before she lowered both head and chest to be at level with him. Smiling she gently reached out with a paw to nudge the brute awake, chuckling softly as she spied the pups having their fun. “You look silly,” she chided the male quietly while inching her nose toward his. The cold flesh gently caressed its chilled likeness then was warmed by a lick from a very heated tongue.

As the two went deeper into their play, X’yrin raised her head with a sound growl to gain their attention, then brought her form to stand swiftly with a playful whisk of her tail. “Well now, such strong warriors deserve a reward for taking down such a frightening monster. How about that meal you were promised?”

Finally free of the valiant heroes his form slowly started to stir as his mate hovered around him. Soft breathes left his maw as he kept up the illusion for a brief time. But once her voice reached his ears a broad grin wrapped around his lips. Her tender affections where returned as his tongue found her nose and his body slowly stirred off its back and onto his side.

His mate then went back toward catering to the young ones while he simply sat back and watched her. If he was silly she looked pretty silly as well but then again puppies seemed to always make people do silly things. It was freeing in a way to throw off all bravado and let two young ones get some glory. Finally he rose to his feet and stretched out his form in a long yawn before shaking his head.

“What food do like you two?” he asked while taking up his position next to her, again showering her with affection. How he wished the two of them where their own puppies, he could finally see why X’y would have had a hard time not taking a puppy when they were this cute. Saluce’s form was inseparable from her. The behemoth placed his head along her shoulder using his slightly higher stature to so.

“I think I saw a tent selling some cooked foods in oil? Heard it was delicious” he mused as a blue eye kept an eye on the two puppies.

OOC here! :: Word Count → 287

Sophie and Boothe had only just finished wrestling--Sophie, as predicted, pinned beneath her larger, stronger brother--when the adults called the attention back to them, and two pairs of nearly identical eyes looked up with a few curious blinks. X'yrin mentioned that they'd been promised a meal, and they glanced at each other worriedly as the large male who'd decided not to stay down mentioned someone selling food. A meal sounded wonderful, truly, but they'd been gone for a long while already, and Sophie was beginning to worry that Leon would come looking for them. He had the rather bad habit of asking questions later and yelling first when it came to his siblings, and Sophie didn't want their new friends to get in trouble with their big brother.

Boothe's thoughts seemed to run along the same tracks, or at least along ones parallel to them, for just as she was opening her mouth to rather hesitantly tell them that they should get back, Boothe cut her off, his tail lifting to wag happily. "We eat whatever we can get," He said in answer to Saluce's question, and glanced at his twin, swiveling an ear to point it at her as if daring her to contradict him now that he'd already spoken up. Sophie wouldn't, now, but she did glare at him, and then stepped over and stomped as hard as she could on his paws. It was hard enough to make him yelp, and the startled look he gave her made her glare harder. " 'D love some food," She said, and turned her face away from her brother, not seeing the drooping ears and sad puppy eyes he aimed at the back of her head.

WC:390If you'd like you can put a bow on this with your next post, have their caregiver come back after they eat up their tasty treats

A curious glance was given, as the big male looked over the two small puppies. Each seemingly battling with their own emotions, Saluce could see himself fall head over heels for the little girl, could see himself treating her like a princess, and never wanting to let her grow up. But she wasn’t his little princess, that would have to wait until the X’y and him had their first litter. The boy seemed to behave exactly how he would have guessed a boy his age would, mention food and he was all in. A knowing look turned to his mate as a happy lick encased her maw once again as his tail slowly started to wag. Saluce nodded to her and he started to move, his form turning and starting to retreat back to the festival, but not before making sure to rub his entire length against his golden queen.

Saluce left X’y there, knowing the time would be well spent, and knowing in his heart she needed this more than he did. The shop owed him anyways, and the tasty fried treats where something he had wanted to try since he had arrived. Saluce walked in, unceremoniously on two legs, he rose up to the table hooking his front paws on the table, tail wagging as blues looked at the cook and nodded. He didn’t feel the need to speak, since the shop keeper already knew what he wanted. It took a few moments but there was a thin leather bag that was dropped in front of him and an able mouth grabbed a hold of it and carried it off.

He returned, and the bag was opened, nimble lips pulling out hot pieces of what he had been told where skinned and de-boned chicken something he hadn’t recalled eating, and then covered in some flour mixture and cooked in a vat of oil. The whole thing sounded foreign to him but the smell was enough to take out any reservations he had about the edible nature of the food.

“Alright, let’s see what we have.” He pulled out a single piece for himself and X’y, and upturned the bag letting the several other strips sprawl out for the two puppies. Saluce himself wasn’t at all that hungry and figured the two pups would benefit more from the treat than he would.

Word Count → 509 :: Will do~! It was really nice threading with you guys. <3

The male got up to go and get their food, and Sophie waited patiently, though Boothe was somewhat less so, dancing about and wiggling in an excited little war-dance. As the heavenly smell began to float toward them, Sophie's ears perked, and she glanced shyly at her brother. It smelled really good; she wondered how good it tasted, and if, after the first bite, she'd get anything at all. She was competing with a pig for food, after all, the same boy who'd once taken up the whole milk bottle when they were feeding. As the bag was upturned on the ground, she had to race forward, though Boothe quickly shouldered her out of the way and fell upon the fried poultry like he was starving. Sophie grabbed a smaller piece and dragged it over away from her brother, then began choking it down like a snake, barely chewing.

The competition continued for a long moment, with Sophie getting at best two or three more pieces, and Boothe eating all the rest. When it was all gone, Boothe snuffled about the grass where the food had been, and then sat down and turned his gaze on the two adults, his ears pinned back and his eyes very wide, begging. Sophie licked her chops clean, and then glanced at her brother and snickered. Puppy he might be, but the look really didn't suit him; she was just about to test her own puppy-dog eyes on them, hoping to engage Boothe in competition and win for once, when a familiar voice echoed out on the wind.

Her ears perked, and she twisted around, trying to see what was being said, and who it was. She saw Trigger, walking on his newly-acquired two legs, trying to find them. With a little yelp that sounded more like a mouse's squeak, Sophie shoved herself against her brother and jerked her head frantically. If Trigger was looking for them, that meant Leon knew they'd wandered off. And she didn't want to be found by Leon; Trig was so much less grumpy. Sophie dashed over to pick up her pelt in her maw, and saw Boothe doing the same. She dropped hers for a moment, long enough to say, "Brother's lookin' for us, gotta go!" Very quickly. Before she could pick up her gift again and dash off, as Boothe was already doing, another thought came to her, and she smiled brightly at the couple, waving her tail. "Thanks, for everything!"

And then she'd lifted her pelt and run off, managing to catch up with her brothers before they wandered off without her. As she went, she tripped and stumbled quite a bit, the pelt dragging beneath her and making her a bit more clumsy than usual. She had the vague thought that she'd have to clean it, later, after they got home.

She already had the feeling Boothe would forget about his. Ah, well; she supposed she could clean that one, too. You had to take care of a gift, after all.
