Some PP in catching X'yrin's scent. Hopefully that's okay; I'm unashamedly fishing for more words. xD /sswm 420

The small coyote loped ever northward, her lungs heaving to compensate for the increased elevation as she took in the scents of the forested southern belly of the mountain range. A westerly wind battered the mountain cranberry bushes she slipped through, bringing with it the scent of brine and causing the brown fur of her spine to lift. Pushing aside the memories, focusing on the most recent one sweeping through her soul like a spring bird, she bounded onward uphill and around the different outcroppings and logs.

It was not the first time that she had traveled through the Halcyon Mountains, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. Her visits toward her dear friends’ pack had made her familiar with the different passages through the rocks and trees, but her route was altered this time: angling a little bit to her left as she climbed, toward the rumored place where a number of wolves had gathered in the month past. To the individual, it was something to be curious about, but to the clan of coyotes, it was a slightly more concerning matter.

Vesper did not want that to be the case, being rather species-blind—but she knew that she walked toward the wolves’ domain with the burden of new responsibility on her shoulders. Optio. The word sent her heart fluttering again in her chest, and she had to give her head a firm shake to rid herself of the feeling. Joined in autumn and already at the Legatus tier of Inferni; it was unbelievable, or at least it was to most. But it was no lie that her constant vigilance when it came to the borders and other goings-on had marked her as a presence in the clan, and she could only hope that this high rank would give her another reason to remain loyal to her new home. It was something else to do, and something she was proud of, and so she moved with more haste northward toward the other side of the mountains.

The wind blew again, and the naked branches rattled together as if to frighten her off. When the gust died down again, however, a familiar scent was able to waft toward her flaring nostrils. Her head and ears came up, and her businesslike, lank tail began to sway back and forth happily. Spinning and lunging in the direction of the odor, she let out a yipping call to let her Shepard know that she was there, a grin spreading across her narrow muzzle.

ooc: Since Saluce would be with her, I'll pp him a bit.

The meeting had gone rather well than what she had expected to happen. Perhaps more of a fuss or defense for the omega of New Dawn, but how the Alpha Zalen had complied left her with a strange satisfaction she was not prepared for. She was not overly happy that a sense of justice would befell the boy, but she was content in knowing these trespasses would not happen again due to proactive measures. She rather liked this feeling of security and mentally sought to maintain it.
Beside her a similar expression dawned the male’s face though with a more certain light. Since leaving they had only spoken in whispers, talking just a little on the punishment that awaited the boy but spent more of their time discussing the human rituals of marriage. The thought had her giddy as always, and each time they spoke of it she would lift her head to flaunt the jeweled collar around her neck followed smoothly by the gentle touch of his nose just beneath it and a kiss to her cheek. Her appreciation for the remnants of humans were nearly non-existent, but when it came to rituals and events such as these, she could not let her prejudices deny her a chance to learn… even if this particular cultural norm was for their joined benefit. Pondering on the topic placed her in a better mood, lightening her steps as the pair bounded the familiar curvature of the mountain toward home.

But an excited yipping paused her steps, and both Exultare raised their heads to receive the excitable tones. As many times as she heard the like, X’yrin new the voice immediately. Her tail raised then went into a frenzied sway as she lifted her head and bellowed her greeting before slipping down the rocks to greet her friend. Saluce was a little less enthused about the call, wearing an expression of confusion as he followed after his mate. Legs attuned to the mountain’s terrain worked effortlessly to drew the woman nearer to her friend, her breath heavy as her heart pumped fervently with her tongue lolled playfully from the side of her maw.

She spotted the tawny hide and with a mind of their own, her limbs worked speedily in rhythmic repletion until four large paws slammed into the ground in descent from a precarious protrusion of earth then carried the excited woman straight into the side of her friend, surely nearly knocking her over with the momentum of so much mass. Her tail wagged badly whilst endearing whines escaped her maw as she proceeded to lavish the girl with elated licks of greeting to their reunion. One would have thought they hadn’t seen each other in a lifetime, with how she was acting. But then, she could have just been genuinely glad to see her student and friend again.

Saluce was more cautious in his approach to the female, maintaining a distance while he allowed his nose to test the air for her scent. His hackles raised as he caught in unmistakable scent of the coyo-pack drench over her own but made no immediate move toward her. His mate looked happy right now… and he had no intention of disturbing that.

Short and sweet. Tongue I missed posting with you already! x3

A loud lupine call blasted through the air in response to her cry, and the topaz-pelted woman appeared up on the rocks, tongue lolling as she barreled down the slope toward her friend. Her muscular frame moved like an avalanche then launched itself off one of the outcroppings, falling down close enough to Ves to cause the coyote to yelp. The smaller canine was knocked off her paws, and while she scrambled to her feet and attempted to shake the frost and dirt and gravel from her tawny pelt, X’yrin came upon her with friendly licks.

Vesper laughed, allowing herself a moment of joy, returning some of the licks though mostly her tongue peeked out from her jaws. She was exhilarated, the contentedness with the day reaching new heights as she nuzzled into her friend’s thick mane, lashing at her umber legs with her tail. She grinned and wound herself once along her mentor’s side before catching sight of a large grey male, at which point all fours halted.

Ears came down upon an angular skull, and the Optio took a step in the male’s direction, her posture a protective one until she caught wind of him. He absolutely reeked of her Shepard, carrying traces of Ichika too—and so she relaxed, glancing back at X’y with a sly smirk and a hoisted brow begging for explanation.

ooc: I missed rping with you too!!! Let's see how well we can mime this out, shall we? Big Grin

True elation was an emotion best reserved for times like these, when she was faced again with a dear familiar after a prolonged time of separation. She imagined this is what it would have been like to be reunited with the Exultare again, her family and be dear Shepard whom she missed every day. But within her daily life while she felt happy and loved by her mate and her packmates, seeing Vesper again, her true kindred spirit, was always a treat words alone could not express.

She made quite the excited show in parading around her pupil and friend, tail high and gait emphasized by the heavy trample of her paws. Not at all flighty and light as she knew herself to be, but more sound and playful succumbing to the exuberant air. Swiftly circling her friend, she brought her muzzle down to lightly butt her crown into a muscled shoulder but paused when the fine limbs wouldn’t budge and instead crept toward the distant form of her idle mate. Her amber gaze cut quizzically between the two with ears pinned forward and tail straight in attention as she monitored their interaction with a cautioning eye. X’yrin knew of her mate’s dislike of Inferni, the history between them and the once great Dahlia, and became skeptical for how this once happy reunion would unfold. The golden female trusted her mate to be kind in the face of her friend, but knew as well as perhaps Saul how his expression… even his aura could sometimes be perceived as hostile. But her student was certainly no pushover.

Still, she could sense the tension on her mate and lowered both head and ears with a soft whine to garner his attention. Without word or indication of an intent to speak she stared at him, holding his glacier gaze firmly with her gold, silently urging him to relinquish his tension and retain neutrality… if not a small smile for the sake of being hospitable to her friend. She held onto him until the faintest glimmer of defeat was caught in his eyes and he fell to the silent bidding of his wife to be. Catching that light, the female’s head retained its proud height tossing wild tendrils of autumn from her eyes from the abrupt ascent. Her tail regained his frenzied fanning as she turned happily toward her friend, only to catch a sly glint in her eyes. X’yrin’s ears fell back almost immediately as she stared wide-eyed at the smaller female, almost as if she had been caught performing some sinful act. Of course that wasn’t the case, but she certainly felt like she was caught red-pawed for something.

Her sights danced between her mate and Vesper, wracking to brain to figure why the girl was looking at her like that when she had only just seen her mate- And like a stroke of genius the woman finally caught on and her ears perked up in realization, only to slide back against her skull whilst her head lowered bashfully. Of course she would look at her like that, she hadn’t even told Vesper she had a mate and to come smelling like another male, what other conclusion was there to make? The woman certainly felt silly, but not enough to retain humility. Shaking off her bout of shyness with a rough toss of her mane, she tilted her head just a little for her pupil to better see the jeweled collar around her neck, symbolizing the wolf adapted human union to the male before them. Her maw then parted delicately with a near quiet song, speaking of a consummated mateship and her unbridled happiness bequeathed by her beloved.

The nudge against her shoulder did not divert her attention away from the unnamed grey wolf watching the pair of females. Lips remained settled over white teeth while there was only the slightest of wrinkles in her brow, even though she could easily be giving the stranger a colder reception. She was used to others looking at her this way, though, especially wolves that looked down on her for her coyote blood and the deeds of her clan. She could not change history, though, could change nothing other than how she presented herself.

Luckily, X’yrin was there to further ease the tensions, whining at the large male and locking her gaze with his. It was at about this time that Vesper managed to gather what she could from the scent of the man, and the sheepish look that her friend gave her made her want to burst into laughter. She held her tongue quite literally though, clamping it lightly between her front teeth, her amusement still written in the lightness of her expression.

It seemed that, while Vesper’s life had been changing since their last meeting, X’yrin had not gone without some new additions as well. Blue eyes watched curiously as the golden woman tossed her head then craned it so she could see the shining gift worn around her neck. What she had already gathered by smell and interaction was only confirmed by this trinket, and she laughed lightly, nudging her head underneath her friend’s strong one in silent congratulations. Certainly, the male was lucky; X’yrin was a beauty by anyone’s standards, and strong of personality: a real catch. Had Vesper been any older she might have entertained thoughts of jealousy, but the mentor-apprentice fantasy wasn’t anything she indulged in.

These thoughts made her laugh again, more to herself, and she pranced once around her friend’s frame before pausing, hopping up onto an outcropping and flaunting her ears and tail, standing high and proud. The lack of words between them was something that not many could pull off, but she knew that, once she started speaking of the changes in Inferni, she wouldn’t be able to stop rambling. So instead she stood, smirking cockily, announcing her newfound purpose.

Communication through gesture she feared was a lost art among their kind. While words were so readily available and in ample supply, it seemed pointless to converse through a nod of the head or flick of the tail. But while words provided a refreshing ease at and times a pleasant melody to the ears, it paled in comparison to the language of their ancestors, when words were considered frivolous and the whisk of the tail was the common tongue.

And how glad she was to play along, letting her expressions speak for her as opposed to the literal tell through words. As always when with her friend, she was reminded of her time as a wanderer, scouring the lands with silent tongue, taking what she could underpaw as she explored the vast lands a Nomad could only dream about. Reacquainted with that part of her heritage still alive and well, she felt only joy, endless measures of it as it doubled countless times over and encompassed her wholly. Her tail was a blur as she circled in place on the tips of her paws following the coyowolf’s movements as she acquired a makeshift pedestal and put herself on display. The registration of rank came slowly, passing through the crevices of recognition until they were acknowledged by the conscious mind and the bright light of understanding lit both eyes and face excitedly.

The female about leapt in place as she recognized a higher ranking staff and felt her heart swell with pride for her student. Ascension was always a matter to be praised and recognized for the struggles endured to attain that standing. In lieu of a celebration better fit to congratulate, she lifted her muzzle and sang in honor of her dear friend. Her name flowed on melodious tones garnished with adoration and love and pride for her accomplishment. She sang to her ancestors to beg they bestow their protection to the young female as well as their blessing of a long and fulfilled lifetime. By the recession of her song, the golden female was grinning like mad, tail whipping wildly before she bound toward her friend’s side and playfully pounced for her shoulder.

Her early days in the feral northern wilderness had been wordless, with no communication other than a nudge or a whine needed to get a point across to her clingy sister and detached mother. When words were spoken, they were direly important: usually warnings, her name cracking through the air like a two-syllable whip whenever she ventured somewhere unsafe. Even then that crutch was deemed unnecessary as the blue-eyed sister grew more independent, enough that she knew what could kill her and often had the strength to survive it.

This simple communication in the present moment was not quite the same, as there was a great deal more to tell and more warmth behind each action. She did not love her family as much as she loved X’yrin; her family was given only the basest, instinctual love yet marred by her opinions of them now. This near-silence was a gift, a return to feral roots that Vesper had almost missed.

The golden woman understood her message and tilted her head back, crying out in honor and blessing. Coyote-large ears tilted shyly back against an angular skull as the hybrid listened, not used to being praised this way. No one had really wished her anything special before; she’d hoped only for her own survival over the seasons. Slowly, she shook her head in wonder: acknowledging again how far she had come from the raggedy loner who’d boldly chased ungulates across this mountain and openly mocked the ways of pack wolves and luperci.

Distracted by her musing, she failed to notice the blatant signs of her friend’s intentions until a large body connected with her shoulder. Vesper toppled off her stone pedestal with a yip, squirming quickly to regain her purchase on the cold earth. She twisted her slender body away, grinning, and leaped at X’y’s face—trying to lick up the side of her cheek before capturing one of her stout ears. There had been no true celebration in Inferni, only the weight of respect and responsibility, and the Nomad’s song was enough to send her spirits soaring.

If any lessons were to be taken from her playful, though swift actions, it was to prepare oneself for the unexpected even in the middle of play. Through their involvement with each other by way of the flourishing Shepard and student relationship, the Nomad would have thought her able-minded pupil would have remembered this fact. But it couldn’t be said that she didn’t enjoy having the upper-hand on her coyote student even if it was for a moment.

X’yrin raised her muzzle in a boast of victory as her paws settled on the stone pedestal and was claimed as hers. The woman made a show of beating her forepaws on her newly claimed throne and tossed both head and tail into the air and a show of feigned vanity. But her own thoughts were taken into consideration as her guard has slipped in this moment of exuberance. She saw only a tawny blur from the corner of her eye before the warm wetness of tongue struck her face. The sudden caress sent a pleasant chill up her spine and for a moment she was lost in a daze until warm breath and fang gripped her ear.

With an audible yelp she lowered her head and began pawing at the maw that had her ear. It was quite the awkward show, especially for one that prided herself on form and dexterity, but her ear was in danger! What was she expected to do other than free it? For such a large beast she was a pitiful mess trying to reclaim her ear for herself without any harm coming to it. She knew it was all in play and was fine to play the part of the distressed heroin. Her soft whimpers even called out to her mate to help her and be her knight in shimmering grey armor. But the knight however was not moving. He remained where he sat with an amused smirk on his muzzle. It was rare that he saw his female in play with someone other than himself and he was not about to ruin the moment for either of them.

Just her luck.

This whole encounter was foreign to him, to the inferni woman and the actions his mate carried while around her. He looked onward as it all transpired confused at first, until he realized that there was a deep friendship between the two of them. Blues watched the woman claim her thrown and proclaim some feat attained in her pack and then X’y’s reaction. Saluce himself couldn’t help but feel like a fish out of water among the two friends.

X’y was as always playful and he pleasantly sat down on his haunches to watch with an amused look across his face. The big grey male was enjoying this immensely even when his mate’s whines struck his ears and her eyes caught his pleading for help. Oh no she had gotten herself into this mess, even if the urge to play crossed his mind. But her protests did play across his mind, and the big beast’s form raised up into its full standing posture, blues taking in the situation and stretching, drawing it out as long as he possibly could. But it wasn’t too long before the streak of grey entered the fray his hulking form not aiming at the exposed shoulders, or body of the inferni Coyote.

No fangs lashed out in a display as they aimed solely at the tail behind the mysterious woman. His jaws where quite powerful enough to snap it in half but the bite’s aim wasn’t to do so, it’s only real aim was to provide enough pressure and discomfort so the woman would let go of his mates ear. After all the last thing he really wanted to do was harm a friend of his mates, even if she hailed from the infamous Inferni clan. If X’y had befriended her then maybe there was hope after all that the coyote clan would come out of its aggressive stupor.

Omnomnom.

Vesper laughed as her friend pranced upon her pedestal, her body surging up to meet the secui-formed autumn one. Pride came before a fall, and while that had been her own folly moments ago—and the story of her life—she would be the one to topple the Queen of the Mountain from her stone throne. Teeth latched onto her ear, and the whine that shot through X’yrin was so unlike the disciplined Exultare woman that the hybrid almost released her ear to cackle heartily. Instead, she growled, not letting the heavy paw that batted at her face deter her. Not even her mate would save her now—or so Ves thought.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the behemoth rise without urgency, slinking toward them like a silvered bear. The coywolf tried to crane her head, twisting her friend’s ear accidentally as she did so, to see her mentor’s mate jump for her at last. Great jaws snatched her tawny tail, and an indignant shriek left her; she immediately relinquished X’yrin’s ear. Immediately, she whirled around, coyote fangs bared and ears flattened, to jump at the male’s face. Her theatrically snarling mouth sought to grab his muzzle unless he could release her quick enough.

ooc: Suppose we can end this whenever it feels good.

The she-wolf would have been happy if her mate came to save her like the knight in lustrous grey armor that she knew him to be. But he wasn’t moving too quickly to free her from the jaws of her student. In fact, he looked more amused than she expect him to be. Despite her desperate whines and her own attempts at pawing herself free, both her assailant and mate kept to their respective roles rendering the female’s attempts futile. Oh woe was the autumn dame! Forever locked as a captive of the coyo-wolf female… Was there no hope for freedom?

But alas there was still hope!

Seeing her mate rise from the corner of her eye, the female gave an excited yip anticipating a swift save into nature’s loving arms of freedom again. And as soon as the shackles of captivity were released, she lunged for her savior and lavished his maw with kisses of gratitude; the fair damsel now rescued from her distress. And now it was her turn to watch the game unfold between her mate and friend. With a giddy trill to her voice she waltzed just a little ways from the pair to sit comfortably on a plot of ground somewhat warm from the remnant of Saluce’s body heat. With both head and tail peaked with interest she watched what may unfold, uttering little yips and barks to goad them both on acting as more a goading spectator than a recovering captive.

His teeth where rewarded with its rather lightly earned prize of the coyote woman’s tail. He could feel her muscles coiling and jerking as the realization hit her. His mate was the first to jump free and bound over to him while his eyes sought the head of the beast he had by the tail. As the female’s body seemed to recoil and start to pivot he gave the tail a quick jerk in warning to her. The power behind him was immense; he could pull her all over the earth if he wanted to. But his spirited form wasn’t necessarily interested in harming or proving a point, rather it was more interested in play and when his mate decided to retreat to the safety of his previous spot he let out a short growl of annoyance.

His forelimbs again pulled on her tail before jaws unlatched. Saluce tucked his ears against his head as her barreling head came flying forward to catch his jaws. Saluce moved only slightly using his shoulders to bare the most of her attack instead of his muzzle. If her attack proved to land along his shoulder his head and body would jerk in attack, using his strengths, his big body and strong muscles to butt his head into her shoulder in an attempt to nock her off her feet.

Agreed. Lots of fun, but I don't mind how soon it ends. ^^

The tawny female was aware of her mentor’s good humor, her excitement for mirth shown through flamboyant celebration before she traipsed over to watch her student struggle against the grey behemoth. She was loud in goading the pair on as the coywolf attacked the male, and Vesper had half a mind to rush at her for silence. However, her attention was focused on the brute who’d tugged her tail none too politely. Her mouth fell against his muscular shoulder rather than punishing the jaws that’d gripped her, and her teeth pressed against thick fur and skin in a show of indignation.

The giant took advantage of the close quarters, however, and used his size to push her to the ground. She yelped as she hit the dirt but rolled quickly, regaining her balance and scrambling backwards to evade him in case he chose to pin her. She began to feint from side to side, ears back and expression a mixture of cocky and intensely alert—showcasing her agility. Oh, he could crush her beneath his mass, but that was only if he could catch her.

She let out one ’yotish yap before swinging around and flying at X’yrin, executing a leap that would hopefully land her on golden secui shoulders. Her friend wasn’t going to get away that easily!

ooc: Fun as always.

Perhaps her goading them on was a little too much, but it was far too late for the female to reconsider. She giggled like mad as she watched her mate and friend have their little bout adding an occasional yip not and again to encourage a fantastic move from either before they were again at an impasse.

Yet when the eyes of her pupil turned on her, the Nomad felt her blood run cold and ears dropped hard against her skull. It was too late to voice a rebuttal or beg for mercy before the coyo-female came bounding towards her, ready to hold the golden dame victim once again. But she was more ready for it this time, and quickly sprang to her feet and made a lunge for her mate to evade the tawny girl’s onslaught. She parted her maw in a defeated howl, sounding the end to their little game as well as the prelude to a farewell to her dear friend. It was always a pleasure to see her kindred soul, and though she enjoyed their reunion, there needed to be a chance for another.

Waltzing to the side of her endearing love, she glanced over her shoulder to her friend left behind. On her face was not the forlorn expression of a goodbye, but a smile with the anticipations of another time when they could see each other again. For as many times as she had uttered in tongue, what was conveyed across her face was nothing in comparison to the grander volumes of her expression. She lifted her muzzle and sang again for her friend, offering her congratulations and praise as well as her unbridled joy. And as that song faded into the late winter air, another took its place as she began back down the path toward home;

‘We never say ‘goodbye’, only promise to see each other again.’
