24th January . 9.30am . Archery Field . Optime Form

The young Stormbringer held his breath as he plunged into the depths of the water, exuberance rushing through his body at the combination of the chill to the water and the cleanliness that he already felt as the bubbles of air released from his coat and rose to the surface. It was part of his mourning routine and it hadn't changed a bit since he'd arrived at the festival four days ago. So far he hadn't managed to do all that much, although he'd acquired a new horse and some important pouches of herbs that would be incredibly useful when he had need of them. He opened his eyes, feeling the familiar sting against his eyeballs before he blinked and it vanished. There was a certain advantage of bathing in the lake- it was deep enough that he could jump in without hitting the bottom and he could swim around all he liked.

The male spent a good half an hour in the lake, swimming and grooming himself in a way that was certainly unnatural for many canines. When he felt as though he were clean enough, he moved towards the shore, already planning his route out towards the horses and back around to the tents once more. He allowed his mind to switch off as his paws struck the ground and in no time at all, he 'awoke' to the tents around him. Releasing a breath, he panted quickly in an attempt to cool his body down. He had no idea what he was going to do today, but he could feel that something was going to be happening. He moved towards the activities section of the grounds, green eyes watching as a few of the other activities began.

It was on this wander through the activities going on that he spotted a familiar set of equipment not far away. While he had never shot a bow, he was familiar with the target and the structures of the bow and the arrow. Safe to say that his interest was now peaked, the male moved swiftly towards the area, noting that it wasn't completely empty. He didn't think he knew anyone here, but he allowed himself to shift up into his Optime form, shaking his arms out. "I'd like to participate" He said softly, receiving a nod from the instructor who was still in conversation with another person. He settled to leaning against a tree, waiting for the lesson to begin.

LOL dixie has no sense of personal space. xD / +3

Dixie had to go check on the horses for a while this morning, see how they were doing and make sure that no one was picking on anyone else. She hated having to separate horses because they couldn’t get along, but it had to be done sometimes…and for good reason. If one of those bigger stallions kicked the still growing Bark, the youngster would be injured seriously. Fern could try to protect him, but then she’d probably get hurt as well. Hopefully the Casa horses stuck together and protected one another from any of the other packs’ brutes. No one had a use for injured horses that could not work.

Approaching the pen, she surveyed the area and then climbed up onto the wooden slats to give herself enough height to see over the back of the steeds. It was easy to pick out all of her babies, and she yipped softly to get their attention. Duke came fast, his hooves slamming into the ground aggressively to get other horses to move out of his way. Thrusting his head up into the air, he pressed his nose against the girl’s chest and pranced in place. Apparently he was happy to see his friend after a few days of bare minimum interaction. Smiling, she stroked her fingers through his mane and stroked his neck for a while, making smooch noises at Bark and Fern when they came to check her out as well.

However much she loved her horses, she couldn’t spend all day hanging out with them, especially not when there was so much more to explore at the makeshift marketplace that was set up. The traders were waiting! After giving all three horses some snuggles, she turned and ran back towards the festivities. A familiar scent hit her nose and she jerked to a stop, wide eyes scanning the area…Saul was here! Yipping with excitement, the small woman darted over to where the larger gray man was and bounced up and down. Saul! Oooh, it’s been forever since we saw you! How are you? How is Gypsy? Is she fat yet? How is your pack? What are you doing here? Oh! Is this archery!? Wow!

Dixie’s word vomit spewed out in a rushed and jumbled mess and it was obvious that her excitement was immense. Such strong emotions over seeing a onetime acquaintance! Her small hands reached out and took Saul’s larger ones, holding onto him as she tried to stop hopping around.

-chews on dixie-

While the male had no reason to feel awkward standing in the clearing- he had no need for a partner to arrive and this was a task he could complete on his own- there was a certain sense of loneliness as he stood there. He'd asked Eclipse if she might like to come, but she'd declined on the basis that she already knew how to use and hunt with a bow. He'd allowed her that one, but promised her that they would complete at least one task together. She grudgingly agreed and Saul had left, unsure of whether he would complete the task on his own. His run this morning had done a lot to clear his head and he felt settled and happy with the days task, but there was still a certain portion of him that wished he at least had a companion to do this with. He was sure he didn't know anyone else here and none of them looked particularly interested in speaking with him.

He wasn't alerted to her presence until she was right in front of him, this small blonde female whom he'd met only once before. It had been a strange turn of events- Saul had left with her horse Gypsy with the intention of getting her pregnant by Hermes. Well, it had worked and Saul was rather amused to see the female whom Gypsy belonged to here today. Of course, his surprise was nothing to the astonishment to the verbal vomit spewing from her mouth. His brain kept up well and Saul let out a long chuckle when she was about halfway through her tirade of questions and comments. To top it all off, her small form had begun to hop and bounce in front of him. Her small hands curled in his larger ones as she tried to hold herself still. There was a brief moment of silence before Saul grinned and pulled her into him for a hug.

"Heya Dix, long time no see. Everything is great thank you, although a lot has happened." He thought about Siku and Temeraire, how one love had left his life and another, completely different love had taken her place. His son was the most precious thing to him now. "Gypsy is fine, although she isn't showing yet. Horses don't show until their last three months of gestation so we've got a little wait for now. She's due in June though, so not long now." He said, thinking about Maia as well. "Ichika is great... and you appear to have acquired a pack scent? Whats this?" He said, drawing back to look into her eyes, a twinkle there. He really did like Dixie and he felt it a shame they'd never kept in contact after their meeting half a year ago. "Yeah, this is Archery. Wanna have a go?" He asked, green eyes hopeful that he'd acquired a companion to complete the task with.

she is such a dork +3

The small woman snuggled up against Saul for a hug, smiling up at him happily. It was always nice to be around others who could deal with her insane personality and energy for a while, at least until she was able to calm herself down. Saul just took her questions and bouncing in stride, watching with amusement until she was finished and waiting for him to answer impatiently. Of course she had to go and make herself look like an idiot within the first few moments of talking to him. She KNEW that horses didn’t show until later in their pregnancy…what was with asking him that in the first place? Well, her mother’s old horse, a pony of sorts, had always shown a bit earlier since she was so thin all the time. Images of the bony grey mare popped into her head and then lined up with an image of the large, filled out and stocky Gypsy…there was no way anything on Gypsy would look different yet. Shaking her head a little, Dixie snorted at her own stupidity and looked back up at Saul, focusing on what he was saying.

Oh yes! Wayne and I are a part of Casa di Cavalieri now! You might know Jazper and Anann, our leaders? We’re just a bit south of ya’ll up there in them there mountains…you should come visit sometime. Her hands squeezed his gently and she squirmed around, sticking her nose against him and sniffing in a deep breath. Yep, he smelled of the same pack and horses as he had last time. His mention of archery had her pulling back and looking at the other canines standing around, the bows and the targets set up. Oooh, yes! I been wantin’ to learn for a while. Need a better way to hunt at long range, too small ta take a deer out by myself…so far.

-chews on dixie-

While Saul had only met Dixie on one occasion, there was a certain buoyancy about her that he was drawn to. She was an easy going, happy person and while they weren't particularly close, Saul could feel himself fitting easily into her life, and her into his. It didn't feel like something either of them had to work hard to achieve- it was just an effortless friendship, unmarred by the trials of time away and everything else that had happened to him. He wished, not for the first time, that he had not left Temeraire with Nayru back in Ichika- it would have been good for Dixie to meet his son. He would have to tell her about him instead and hope that when the time came for Gypsy to be returned, the two would be able to meet one another. Dixie launched into another explanation and Saul smiled, squeezing her a little tighter against his body.

"I'm glad you found somewhere to settle Dix! I haven't heard of Jazper or Annan. But I will definitely have to come down and visit soon, check the place out!" He chuckled, wondering just how far away Casa di Cavalieri was from Ichika. Nova Scotia was a huge place- it would take him at least a few days to reach AniWaya from Ichika, and that was riding relatively fast. He giggled softly as she squirmed in his arms before jabbing her nose into his side and taking a deep breath. "Well then, we could learn together. My cousin Eclipse knows how to hunt with a bow and arrow, but she hasn't taught me yet! I thought I would learn!" He smiled before releasing the blonde bombshell and stepping forward. The instructor called their attention and for the moment, all was silent as the male explained about how to hold the bow and how to shoot.

"Well, that seems simple enough..." He said, walking forward and grasping the bow in his left hand, the string beneath his arm. He looked over at Dixie to make sure she was okay, before pulling an arrow from the quiver on the ground. Laying it on top of the bow and resting it against the wood at the point end and sliding it into place on the string end. With an unsteady movement, he twisted his arm to the left and bought his right arm up and his elbow close to his right eye. He took a breath, aiming and releasing on his breath out. For a moment, the arrow wobbled before thudding into the top of the target board, nowhere near the ringed target but at least on the black area of the board. With a grin, he looked over at Dixie, wondering how she'd done.

took forever. -.- sorry +3

Being around Saul was so easy, almost like she’d been with him for months. There was a seamless friendship that she was sure would still be intact if they didn’t see each other for years, even. He was so laid back and calm, just taking her insanity in stride with a patient grin…the perfect friend for the crazy ball of white fluff. Her head tilted to the side when he began talking again, making sure to listen closely to everything he said. There were certain people who she kind of ignored, and some people she paid close attention to…Saul was becoming one of the latter, as she actually felt like she should care about everything he had to tell her.
Well you will know Jazz and Anann when you see them. They are both giants! Jazz is sooo big, and he’s really dark and has this tattoo on his eye…Anann is real big too, and all pretty brown an’ stuff. Closing her eyes, the young woman thought back to when she and Wayne had left Gypsy to go with Saul, the first time they had met. It had been a chance meeting, nothing expected, and apparently they had been rather close to the pack that Saul lived in. Remember roughly the area that they were in, she nodded and began smiling again. Ichika is actually…very close to us. We are on the beach, on the bay side.
When the ‘instructor’ stood and tried to get everyone’s attention, Dixie moved a few feet away from Saul and grabbed one of the bows and an arrow that were leaning against the tree. Lifting her set, she knocked the bow like everyone else was doing, and pulled the string back slowly. It was really hard, and her arms were way too short to get it far enough back. When she finally let the line snap, the arrow only shot out a few feet before sliding into the ground, stuck in the dirt. Peeking over to the side, she saw that Saul’s arrow had hit the target! Yipping lightly, she hopped over to him and jumped around with excitement. You did it!

As if in a world of her own, Dixie continued her talking and Saul found that he was able to concentrate easily on what she was saying. She might talk a lot, but it usually wasn't innane chatter that meant little to either of them. Like she was willing to listen to him, Saul was also willing to put in the time to listen and respond where the little blond bombshell was concerned. Unlike most of the other female relations he dealt with, he did not feel paternally for Dixie- it was more of a favourite little sister kind of friendship that was easy on both of their parts. As she spoke about Jazper and Annan, he felt a smile tug at his lips- she was a breath of fresh air when he needed her the most. Coming down to the festival had been a good idea, but Saul wasn't entirely sure leaving his son for that long was a good idea.

"They sound pretty unmistakable. I'll have to bring my son, Temeraire, down and we'll visit and see these pair."

He offered in return, although he paused for a moment as he considered his words. He hadn't yet told Dixie about his son and he wondered how she would react. Most people he knew when he told them the good news, however strange the circumstances surrounding Teme's birth had been, appeared to be genuinely happy for him and he hoped Dixie would be too. His son was a great kid so far, although he couldn't really say much because he was back in Ichika with Nayru at the moment. As if hearing his thoughts, she spoke up about the distance and Saul allowed a happy chuckle to come forward. "I'm sure I've been to those parts before." He commented, oblivious to the fact that Casa had taken up residence on half of the old Dahlia territory.

It was his turn to concentrate on Dixie's technique as she bounced towards the bows and selected one. She looked so tiny, he doubted she'd have enough strength to draw the bow. She surprised him however as she drew the string back. It wasn't very far and he could see the shake in the string from where her muscles were straining, but it was enough. With a loud twang, she released the arrow. Unfortunately, it skidded into the ground. She noticed his shot then and exclaimed that he'd hit the target. Her enthusiasm made him laugh as he ruffled her hair softly. "Lets try again..." He said, steadying his breath and picking another arrow. Setting it how he had the first time, he tried to alleviate the shake of his muscles that had been his downfall. With his body stretched completely out, toned abdominal muscles prominent as he released the arrow. It landed with a thud on the white ring of the target.

Dixie was a little upset about not doing very well with the bow and arrow, but she knew it would happen. The thing was way too big for her little body and it was just to be expected. Watching all of the other archers gave her a chance to sit and just observe though. Her brain picked up small things, like how far back they pulled the string, the angle of their shoulders and hips, how to aim. Sighing softly, she sat down and grabbed a handful of arrows, making sure that Saul could reach them after he took his next shot.

This time was better than the last, obviously…but he was still a little bit high. Jumping up again, Dixie moved up behind him and placed her hands on his torso. ”Here, turn a bit more like his, and lean into it a tiny bit…like that, yeah! When you pull yer arm back, pull it up some, too…not sure why, but them others down there are doin’ it and they are getting’ real good shots.” Stepping back, she let her hands slide off of him slowly, making sure he stayed in position. The hard muscles of his abdomen caught her attention and she had to stop herself from touching them again.

That was something she’d noticed on Wayne, as well. Those muscles…the hardness of the male body…it just made her brain a little bit foggy. She wanted to rub up against them and act silly, catch and keep their attention for as long as possible. That was selfish though, so she made her brain and body shut up. ”You should…uh, try again now. Yeah, go ahead an’ do it again.” Shaking her head, she rubbed at her face and sat down once more, staring down range at the lined up targets, waiting for his arrow to hit.

-chews on dixie-

Saul could see the slight upset in Dixie's eyes and he smiled softly in encouragement. She would get there eventually, but there was a certain sense of setting oneself up for failure- Dixie was so small that Saul knew the larger bows that the instructor had given them was perhaps not the best idea for her. There was also very little he could do to help her- there were no smaller bows that she could try to help her out and his helping her would be counter productive. She seemed to want to help him however as they both watched his arrow thud into the white ring of the target. He allowed a frown to colour his face as Dixie moved the arrows closer to them. He would try again until he got the technique right. As he drew his bow, his torso stretching out once more, back straightening and arms settling into the now familiar strain the bow caused, she came behind him.

He felt her small hands on his torso, an intimate touch even if it wasn't meant to be. He felt an unfamiliar feeling race through his body- the tingling ticklishness that threatened to break his control, along with another tingling sensation that burned on his cheeks and below his hips, a feeling he'd only ever had twice before. His stomach clenched as he tried to stop these traitorous sensations taking over his body, her matter of fact tone doing well to calm him. Her able hands turned him easily the way she wanted and Saul was all too willing to allow her to move him as she pleased. Leaning forward a little, he almost protested as her small hands traced over his torso on their way down and out. Biting his tongue and allowing his stomach muscles to slowly unclench. Dixie was his friend and nothing more.

Her confident words made him smile softly, despite the tingling sensation still racing over his skin. He nodded softly, green eyes narrowing as he took a deep breath and released his shot. He watched, almost as if in slow motion, as the arrow raced towards the target. His breath stilled and he held it until the arrow thudded into the target. It hit home on the border of the yellow/red target and Saul turned to Dixie with a grin. "Better, better. Now, let me see if there's anything I can do to help you out." He said, moving behind her to see if there was anything he could help out with.

LOL so AWESOME+3

When the arrow sliced through the air and thunked into the target closer to the bull’s-eye, Dixie yipped and clapped her little hands together. Squirming around happily, she grabbed another arrow and held it up, ready for Saul to take another shot. He looked pleased with himself, as he should be, but instead of going to try again, he mentioned helping HER out. The little girl’s head pulled back slightly and she looked up at him with a curious look on her face. She wanted to help him do this; help him get good at the bows and arrows…because he had asked if she wanted to participate with him. Not many would have asked her to join. They would have just seen her small size and waved her off as a lost cause. Saul was able to see past her body and realize that she WAS a capable woman, able to do just as much, if not more, than the average sized Luperci.

Jumping up, she wrapped herself around him again and squeezed him in a tight hug for a few moments, giving thanks for his wonderful friendship. They didn’t even really know each other all that well, and here they were acting like old, old friends. These were the best relationships of all, and Dixie was immensely happy to have one. Okay then…if ya think it’s worth the trouble. I ain’t gonna be able to do much. Grabbing the too large bow, she knocked an arrow and just stood there limply, waiting for Saul to do whatever it was he wanted to do. Her body stiffened a tiny bit when he sidled up behind her, got down on his knees, and wrapped his arms around her little frame.

When on his knees, Saul’s head was just a tiny bit shorter than hers, and it made her feel like a child. Sighing softly, a bit annoyed with her size, and leaned back against his chest. The warmth coming from his fur pushed into hers and had her relaxing within moments, his masculine scent enveloping her entire frame easily. The male wrapped his hands around her own on the bow and the string, helping her pull them apart and balance them in the air without shaking. When he let go, she did as well, and the arrow snapped away. It flew through the air and clipped the side of the target before hitting the ground.

Dixie didn’t care where the arrow had landed, just that it had gone so far in the first place. Dropping the weapon, she whipped around and licked Saul right up the side of the face. Thank you! Thaaank you so much!

they should blatantly have accidental drunken sex sometime, that would be hilarious!

His arrow thudded successfully into the target and Dixie appeared to do a small victory dance. He watched with bemused eyes as she picked up another arrow, ready to thrust it towards him, when he suggested that he could help her out. It would be easy to continue with his shooting success, but that wasnt the point of this whole exercise. While it was a bonus that he was doing well, he'd also wanted to catch up with Dixie and see how she was doing. He could help her out just as much as she was helping him out and with a grin, he stooped down into a crouch behind her. She was smaller than him- her head just about came up to his chest, and it was easier than him standing and stooping. He took to the ground, his shoulders rolling once as he moved to encase her body with his own arms. He held the bow over her own hands, drawing it back with her as she spoke of her self doubt. "Shut your whinging, we're going to do this!'"

He muttered low in her ear as he helped her take aim. She'd managed to lean back against his chest and he could feel his breath rumbling against her chest as they both took a breath. Once he was happy with the angle and aim, he released and Dixie released her hold on the string at the same time. Saul kept the hand enveloping hers on the bow steady, keeping it firmly in place so that it didn't wobble and alter the course of the arrow. Green eyes watched with heavy anticipation as the arrow flew towards the target. He was certain it would hit the target, but even as he watched it arched towards the ground. With a frown, he gave a soft pout before Dixie turned, her small body fitting against his as she hugged his body, a squeal slowly becoming recognised as a stream of thank yous. Saul gave a laugh, his body shaking as he hugged the small woman to him.

"Very good Dix... You reckon you could do that again without my help?"

He asked, a teasing lilt to his tone as he straightened and, cracking his knees in the process. A chuckle escaped before he took up his own bow, stretching the string for a moment before he took his place beside Dixie on the next target over. With confidence, he lay the arrow across the bow and drew it, his elbow close to his eye once more as he waited for Dixie to draw her shot.
