Fatin Nejem
A single thread in a tapestry
though its color brightly shines
can never see its purpose
in the pattern of the grand design
OOC :: Set about January 16th. Sorry about the wait.
WC :: +000

Fatin and Asad had both settled in rather nicely. They had yet to meet anyone but that was all right for now. X’yrin had told them that in order to become full members of Ichika no Ho-en they needed to perform an initiation task once they had settled in their new home more. At first she was a little hesitant about what that involved but the other woman saying that it only involved mediating overnight on a peak laid her worries at ease. So the two of them went to find X’yrin’s home and collect their guide for the task.

The two of them had spent most of their time trying to find a home and Asad had offered to build them a wolf den for the time being and she said that she’d think about it. They hadn’t found a home yet and she was seriously considering telling him to build them a home. But they’d take care of that after tonight. Plus, X’yrin might know where a good place for them to stay. They were sort of a couple. They approached the female’s home and gave her a polite summons. Fatin hoped to Ra that it wouldn’t be too terribly cold wherever they were going. She was not a fan of cold weather.

The early morning had been spent tending to the borderlines as always accompanied with vigor in stride. There was purpose in her actions, but also haste as she strove to complete the marking before the dawn bathed its soothing light over the lands. A little more sleep would have done well for her, or would have at least been nice, hence her reason for emerging at the early hour of the morning.

The cold had been forgotten until the tail end of her rounds, when the slush of dirt and snow began to seep into her legs making it difficult walk with her pads tingling with numbness. She hurried back to the den when the cold made her limbs grow stiff and huddled back beneath her blanket of variant grey until the call of the morning birds brought her back to consciousness.

It was a great deal of time later before she was called to rise again, not by the voices of the native birds but by a familiar to these lands. Though she wanted to continue to leech the warmth from her mate, she knew he slept like the dead and would less likely reply to their patiently waiting guest. With great reluctance, she freed herself from both the furs and warm body and pulled her body into a stretch before receiving whomever waited. Kindly she offered a low growl to convey they had been heard whilst she hastily make herself presentable, rasping away clinging leaf and twigs before emerging into the morning light. Immediately her eyes beheld the tantalizing rust red of their latest inductee and her ever present and formidable guard. To both, the woman dipped her head in greeting.

“Good morning to you, Fatin…Asad,” she smiled to each in turn offering a friendly sway of her tail. “I hope the two of you have settled in comfortably. What can I do for you?”

It took X’yrin a bit of time to reach them but not a terrible amount of time. It gave her time to study her friend and guard. He certainly was handsome but he seemed rather tense and watchful. Neither of those was surprising but it had been a while since he had been so tense. She sometimes wondered what made him so tense when there was no danger to either of them, but especially not her. Since he seemed to not care about him being in danger. Yet she couldn’t ask him what was bothering since the other woman approached.

Fatin was pretty sure they had interrupted her time with someone since they could smell someone on her, most likely her mate. ”We’re sorry to bother you. You had said to come see you to do our initiation task when we had gotten settled. We can come back later if you need.” Fatin was apologetic and slightly amused. Asad was…blank. He was hard to read most times, even for her, and now was not an exception.

But she turned back to X’yrin and smiled. ”Might we know a bit more about what precisely we are going to be doing for the initiation task?” Her tone wasn’t nervous or afraid but simply curious. Though she did also wonder if Asad would do it as well. She thought so but she never knew what would be decided.

ooc: Shorty post!

It was days like these, that she was glad she took the initiative to tend to the borders so early in the morning. Better then than later in the evening. Truth be told, she had forgotten if she had even scheduled a time for the pair to fulfill their task. All she could recall was that she had given them time to settle. But in an attempt to save face, the woman nodded and offered an understanding smile to the pair, assuring them that they did not disturb her morning. At least now it would begin with one less task to finish.

“Yes, your task…” The woman affirmed with a tired smile on her lips. “We will travel to the mountains for meditation and reflect upon our thoughts from this morning until this evening. I know it sounds a little droll, but it is quite relaxing. No doubt you might find yourself repeating this task for your own pleasure. To clear the mind is a luxury most don’t achieve so when you are able, it is quite rewarding.”

Fatin could tell that X’yrin had forgotten that they had wanted to do the initiation task today. But she wisely didn’t say anything and knew that Asad wouldn’t say a word about it either. Granted the male tended not to say much anyways. But he at least had the good sense and the social graces to not mention anyone’s weakness; unless it was during training them in self-defense. He had taught her and still instructed her and kept her ready for protecting herself, at her own insistence. He hadn’t been happy but she had prevailed. He would do anything for her, including kill for her and die for her.

But X’yrin was speaking and the other woman explained what the two of them would be doing. They would apparently be going into the mountains and mediating there until this evening. She wasn’t all that sure about doing it again, or at least in the winter, but Asad seemed intrigued by it. He rather enjoyed torturing himself it seemed. Fatin gave a mental smirk at that thought but also thought it was rather commendable that he liked to stretch himself, in more ways than one. She nodded however and said, ”Lead the way.”

The sooner they began the task, the sooner it could conclude and yet enough would be inducted into the familiar ranks of their home. Though even with her assurances for the task at hand, the woman harbored at bit of hesitance for what she was meant to do. In silent compliance, she nodded once and proceeded to lead the pair from the shadows of her home into the lit road of the mountain path at a measured, yet purposeful pace.

Meditation, though a crucial part of easing one’s mind, was also an activity that required considerable stillness as opposed to tending a garden or collecting wood. And it was this that unnerved the golden female. Sitting still as time slipped by, listening to nothing but nature and the sound of her own breathing. In truth she did not look forward to it despite its necessity and hoped that some greater power would see fit to disrupt them somehow, some way. But the graces of the ancestors could not be invoked on a whim, this much she knew, but it wasn’t harmless to dream and hope for otherwise.

X’yrin glanced at the pair over a muscled shoulder making sure they were able to keep with her pace as well as assess their physical conditions as they ascended steeper ground. Both body and mind was used to the shift in terrain by now and already had its mental map of the façade’s outline. Undoubtedly these treacherous steps would be something new to their paws to endure again as well as the whole of the mountains themselves. She could hope that these steps would be the first to encourage them to explore these reaches independently and make themselves a part of this land as their brethren. But for the time, perhaps a recollection of the familiar before they were thrust too deeply into the new.

“Fatin, Asad… would you tell me of your homeland?” She inquired softly, taking a stone lift underpaw and vaulted herself to the next. “What does it look like compared to here?”

Fatin knew that she was being a bit ridiculous in her worry but she couldn’t really help it. Asad placed a gentle hand on shoulder, giving it a gentle and reassuring squeeze, and she rewarded him with a grateful smile. He became smug about the fact that he had made her better and she gave him an eye roll but also had a bit of a smirk on her lips.

The two of them followed Xy’rin up mountain paths and Fatin took the opportunity to study their surroundings. She had to admit that the scenery was rather pretty. But she did catch the other female studying the two of them, apparently sizing them up. She had a feeling it was to see if they were fit for doing this task. Fatin was no weakling and Asad was…well very much in shape. Her own strength was more lean muscle than bulging.

Xy’rin asked them to talk about their homeland and what it was like compared to Nova Scotia. She smiled and said, ”Well, Turkey is very varied in what it is like. Near us, the summers are rather warm and dry and our winters are cold and wet, but not as cold as here. We do tend to get earthquakes. And there are mountains there. I suppose it is rather mild compared to a lot of places. Istanbul, the city where I am from, is a port city.” She finished but allowed Xy’rin to ask other questions about their home.

ooc: Feel free to assume that after she gives the instruction, this leads into nightfall then the task is complete Smile

The she-wolf took solace in this conversation as they further ascended the mountain. In her thoughts she tried to imagine this place as a vast land much warmer than this. A wet winter struck her as something displeasing especially to one that did not like the heavy weight of water impressed upon them. But did they have means to accommodate themselves during these trying elemental times? Were the lands divided into sects of packs? And was this Turkey a kind of pack as well?

She was near bursting which questions to appease her curious spirit but did her best not to fall prey to her own earnest for answers. Perhaps another time when there was more of an opportunity to set down and fully indulge in the others culture. As it was now, she had to remind herself, there was a mission at hand that need to be fulfilled, one that was just beyond the crest of the mountains façade to a cliff overlooking the peaceful pack lands.

With a dexterous bound, the she-wolf vaulted over the lip of the cliff and came to settled comfortably on its ridge. As she awaited the arrival of the newly inducted, she took a moment to breathe in the clear air whilst letting her eyes rest upon the serenity of the lands stretched out before them. “Here is where we will contemplate on our own thoughts then let them fall away as the sun sets in order to house a clear mind free of the trivial. We have the duration of the day to find success, which I have faith we can accomplished.” The female lowered herself to the ground by her haunches then carefully proceeded to lower her front, extending her forelimbs just over the ledge of the cliff as she made herself comfortable.

“Please,” she continued softly, letting her breath even out and eased her racing heart to slow, measured beats. “Find a place that comforts you and let your thoughts be acknowledged… then with care, let them fall away and be at peace.” Gradually, the female closed her eyes as she followed her own instruction.

OOC: I hope the time jump at the end is alright. And if you want, you can wrap it up with your post.

IC: Fatin could tell that the other woman wanted to ask her questions and was prepared to try and answer them. But when the questions never came, she was partly disappointed but also glad. She loved her old home but wanted to make her life new again. But she would let those inevitable come later. She would like to know some about X’yrin’s home as well.

The three of them soon stopped at a cliff in the mountains. X’yrin then explained what they should do and how to go about it. Asad settled down immediately right next to the edge. Fatin had a small fond smile at her guard’s ways. But she soon found a place to sit that wasn’t uncomfortable but not too comfortable. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, first contemplating her thoughts and mulling different things over and then letting them go and feeling a sense of peace and contentment washed over her.

They stayed like this until the sun started to set and Fatin stayed where she was but turned her attention slight to X’yrin. She patiently waited to see if they were done with their mediation. She rather liked it and would like to do it occasionally. Not something she wanted to do everyday or too often. But she could see why people liked it.
