All welcome! Please do not mind the ramble...or the little kiddies copying their big brother's potty mouth. xD :: Word Count → 606

"Hey, Boothe?"

The question was asked hesitantly, as brother and sister padded through the dense foliage, destination unknown but reveling in their journey.

"What'd'ya want?" Sophie's ears flattened back against her head, and she glanced shyly at her brother. They were wearing the pelts they'd gotten from X'yrin, Sophie's white rabbit pulled tightly around her small body and Boothe's black marten making him look large and strong. Well, more so than her. They were doing their best not to get the gifts dirty, and though that might seem to have been a fair bit harder than they imagined, Sophie was fairing rather well. Boothe...well, not so much.

"What...what d'you think Leon and Trig'll think of this...?" She asked, and hunched her head as green eyes turned to glare at her. "Who cares what they think?" Boothe demanded, and Sophie hunched her shoulders, bowing her head guiltily. Her brother snorted, and bumped her shoulder with his larger frame, sticking his head up. "I thought this was supposed to be just us, Sophie," He complained, and Sophie hunched lower, nodding guiltily. After a moment, though, he continued somewhat more hesitantly, "Don't think they'd be happy, though. 'S why we're doing it," He nodded firmly, and Sophie glanced at him, her ears lowered even tighter to her head. "...Yeah..." She looked away again, stepping lightly over a raised root.

They were heading into the forest for reasons that were, mostly, unknown even to them. Sophie had told Boothe of the things she'd learned about the world, though, with Mordecai and with others, and he'd been intrigued. He refused to go hunting for elves, though, so while Sophie was positive that was what they were doing, Boothe adamantly refused anything of the sort. Still, they paused to check out every little bundle of mushrooms, every hollow that looked like it might hold a tiny person, and every fallen tree. They found nothing, though, and Sophie wondered if it was Boothe who made the creatures of the forest hide from them, or if they'd simply grown too old.

She didn't like that last thought very much, though, and as she checked out another mushroom ring, she pushed it firmly out of her mind. There was nothing in this one either, no one hiding under the mushrooms or in the roots enclosing the small ring. With a little sigh, she turned back to Boothe, her ear flattening out. The feather Light had given her slipped out from beneath the pelt and hung beside her head, tied as it was just behind her ear. She stopped in a small patch of sunlight, and Boothe stepped a bit into the shadows before turning to look at her, head cocked.

"What if we don't find anything? Or we get lost?" She whined, and Boothe padded his way back over to her, his ears laid flat. "Sophie, I didn't want to tell you," He began, and shrugged his wide shoulders a bit in a sort of helpless manner, "But...we're sorta already lost."

Sophie took that moment to glance about the area, and noticed with some trepidation that they had, in fact, forgotten to leave a trail back the way they'd come. It was a bit harder to do without Bug, anyway, who dragged so heavily that there was a clear trail wherever he was. Sophie spun around in a slow circle, and then whimpered a little, and glanced back at her brother. What was it Leon had said just the other day...? It had been a cuss-word, like 'ass'...

Boothe thought of it first, and said, very precisely, "I think we're fucked."

(OCC-Hello hope you don't mind me joining!)

Merlin was trotting around in lupus form; sniff the soft, earthy ground and humming different tunes. He had woken up happy, and a need to roam around the area. He sang different songs as he walked, and talked to himself. Many who would have walked past him would have thought him to be mad or drunk, but he felt no need to look presentable to anyone at this moment, only to enjoy himself.
Breakfast was on Merlin's menu, and he was sniffing for a scent. He had gather roots and berries that were stored in the sack hanging by Merlin's side, and now needed some meat to go with it. Nothing so far, but that was understandable, it being winter, most prey had migrated to warmer places.
Merlin's mood made sure he didn't get frustrated with the lack of food, he could settle with roots and berries, but on a fresh day like this day, he felt searching was more fun.
As he walked he sung a old song he remembered his parents once sing, he didn't know how he remembered the song, but it stuck in his mind somehow.
As he got to the second verse he stopped suddenly, his ear twitch as he heard young voices talking. His ears directed him to the centre of the noise. It was two young wolves, they looked lost or troubled. Merlin made an oath a while ago to help any young, and he didn't hesitate to take up his opportunity now. "What are two fine young wolves doing out here?" He said calmly, walking into view and smiling.

Word Count → 291 :: Hello there! Not at all, glad to have ya. Big Grin

Sophie's ears flattened as Boothe said the word which would undoubtedly get him spanked if Leon ever heard about this, and then glanced around, her ears picking up the distant sounds of someone singing. Boothe seemed to hear it, too, and he lifted his head, straining to perk his ears up against the pelt draped over his head. The sound seemed to be getting closer, but Sophie, after a moment more of unbridled hope, identified it as a wolf, and though disappointment set in, so too did relief.

"Someone's coming. Maybe they can help us," She said quietly, and Boothe grumbled, clearly displeased with the idea. When the wolf came into view, Sophie lifted her tail, wagging the curled appendage a bit. The male seemed friendly enough; she stepped forward a little, having to shoulder past her brother as he attempted to keep her where she was, a safe distance away from the stranger, and said somewhat hesitantly, "We were hunting--" And then paused to share a glance with Boothe, who's glare promised to turn murderous if she finished that thought. "Hunting." She said instead, and flattened her ears, shifting her weight uncomfortably.

"But we forgot to leave a trail, and now we're lost." Boothe didn't seem to want her to admit that part, either, but she couldn't very well tell what might be their only chance of finding a way out of here "No, everything's fine, you can go away now," the way he clearly wanted her to. Just because Boothe was too proud to admit he needed help didn't mean Sophie was. With a sheepish grin, she shuffled closer to her brother, somewhat nervous around the stranger, and added quietly, "Could...could you help us find our way back?"

Merlin smiled at the brave little wolf as she stepped forward to greet him. He sat his hind legs down to seem more friendly and calm and listened to the young wolf. He also noticed the many glares her larger brother was giving her, Merlin guess he was one who took pride over honesty. The little wolf seemed to get a bit more nervous as she finished her talk, but Merlin made sure he looked as least threatening as possible: bowing his head slightly, and lifting his ears so the young ones would know he was clearly listening to them.
"Hunting?" He asked, "I was doing the very same, but in a cold season such as this, prey is hard to find." He looked towards the young male, who still had an uneasy look about him, "Don't worry lad," He said calmly, "Asking for help won't damage your pride, but it will give you more confidence and honesty." He knew the young lad didn't want to admit he was lost, but Merlin knew at a young age, you can only hope to be 'the best' wolf. It was something nearly all young wolves hoped to be, only that the dream would be lost once they matured.
Merlin shock away his thought and looked at young wolves, they were clearly lost far from home and need help, and Merlin didn't think twice before agreeing to help them, "Young ones, I would gladly help you find your way, and maybe help on your hunt." He stood up and moved slowly towards the young wolves, but not too much to make them timid. "But tell me, why would two young wolves be out hunting in the first place?"

Boothe continued shooting her glares and grumbling under his breath, displeased about having to share information with a stranger. He wasn't one to mince words, preferring to keep to himself, and that his sister so freely gave her words away irritated him. But he wouldn't say anything, because he'd come to think of himself as more mature than that, and when the male began answering them, he simply turned his head away and pinned his ears back, ignoring them both completely. Sophie glanced at him with a tight face, and then looked back to their companion, her ears swiveling atop her head unhappily.

"Yeah, we didn't find nothing," She said in agreement as he mentioned that prey was hard to find in the colder months. She wondered if that was perhaps why the little elves were all hiding from her; were they asleep in warm burrows, too busy sleeping the winter away to worry about their mushrooms? Maybe they did that thing that bears did, whatever it was called...she couldn't quite remember, now. Oh well.

Boothe was addressed then, but he didn't turn to look or even lift an ear in acknowledgement to the words, staring fixedly back the way they'd come with a frown pulling at his maw. Sophie frowned at him, but he ignored her, too, so in the end she just turned her head from him, too, and the pair pretended the other didn't exist for the next couple minutes. "We'd be awful appreciative," Sophie said, as she remembered the large word as something Trigger had used to express his gratitude. At his question, though, Sophie pressed her ears back uncertainly, and then glanced at her brother for help before sticking her nose hesitantly in the air, trembling a little for no apparent reason. "We're big 'nough to hunt!" She defended herself, and then glanced at Boothe again and thought hesitantly to herself, "Well, Boothe is, anyway."

"Ah, don't mind it," Merlin said after seeing that the little wolf was offended by his question, "Of course you're big enough." He tried to sound convincing, but he didn't believe a young wolf like this one should be out hunting, her brother looked larger and more well-built, probably more capable of fending for himself, but what if this young she-wolf was attack, Merlin dreaded the thought of such an innocent wolf being harmed, and shock away the thought.

He stood up, and smelt around the two wolves, trying to pick up their past trails, the cold weather had affected Merlin's scent, and these wolves didn't have a distinctive scent on them, so he would have to hope they knew where they started from, Merlin knew enough of his surroundings, so he was fairly sure he could help them in that way.

He noticed the young male wouldn't listen to him no matter what he might say, so Merlin decided to ignore him unless it was important. He turned to the young she-wolf, "So tell me, do have any idea of where you might of started your hunt?"

OOC here! :: Word Count → 307

Sophie felt her cheeks warm as he quickly back-tracked, and wondered if perhaps her objection had been said too fervently. She didn't want to alienate the stranger, as he was very much their only hope of getting back, but she didn't want to admit they'd been doing something as silly as hunting for elves, and though she was very much aware that anything brought in by little pint-sized canines like her would, at most, feed herself. Still, she hoped he wasn't too angry with her for being rude. Boothe, of course, didn't care; he kept his head turned away, stubbornly ignoring everything the male said. Sophie glanced at him and frowned darkly, wishing she could convince him to be more polite, but since leaving their father Boothe had determined that any rules the man had set down were made to be broken.

The stranger began sniffing around their little patch of sunlight, but it appeared he couldn't find anything, or at least he didn't immediately set off in whatever direction they'd come from. Sophie whined, her voice worried and only just slightly frightened, but the male didn't seem discouraged. At his question, Sophie looked to Boothe, and he glanced at her before sticking his nose higher in the air. "There was a road," He mumbled, and Sophie brightened, nodding. "Oh, right! There was the road...sort of a trail, with dirt. It was pretty overgrown," She added thoughtfully, and glanced back behind them, thinking they'd perhaps come from that direction. There was no trail though, leading them that way, so she shook herself and blinked hazily at their companion, her ears pinned sadly. "I, um, don't know which direction to go in, though." She scratched herself uneasily, and stared with wide blue eyes at the stranger, hoping he could point them in the right direction.

OCC- Sorry if I'm not specific with my directions and locations, but the souls' map confuses me Tongue

Merlin lifted his ears with the words 'overgrown road' It felt familiar. He turned his head to side and thought. He was sure he came across an overgrown dirt path a couple of weeks back, when he was out hunting, it wasn't very distinctive, but it was all he had. He looked at the young she-wolf who looked up at him with her blue eyes. He smiled at the little wolf and said, "I know an overgrown road, but I'm not sure if it's the right one, if it's home you want to go then tell me in what part of this land do you live in, it might point us in a good direction." He knew it was a little much to ask, but without knowing where exactly they lived, he wouldn't know if the overgrown dirt road he had in his head would be the right one.

He took a deep breath, and sat back down, he realised he might be stretching the patience of these young pups, especially the male, but it was necessary to know what route to take. Otherwise they might not get back before nightfall which meant the wolves would have to spend the night in Merlin's home, which might make them uneasy. Trying to find your way at night was hard enough especially without a good sense of smell, so Merlin advised himself to allow the option of letting the pups stay with him for the night if it was necessary.

Boothe was giving her a "You can't be serious," look out of the corner of his eye, but Sophie didn't respond until Merlin had turned his head away. Then Boothe got a face full of teeth, though Sophie was so quick her brother didn't even have time to yelp before he was too busy whining over the minor bite he'd gotten. Sophie was too busy trying to recall which lands they lived in to pay him any mind, though. "We're staying in AniWaya, with Mister Light," she began hesitantly, and then glanced at her brother and away again, pausing to scratch behind her ears and loosen the pelt some. After another moment of thought, she brightened a bit, though her face was still contorted with confusion. "It's in the Western Tangles! I...think," She added, and wished fervently that Leon was around to tell her which direction they were supposed to be going. He was good with directions.

Boothe snorted at her answer, and looked at her with a somewhat haughty face, his nose stuck in the air. Somewhat fed up with her brother's attitude, Sophie stood up, fur bristling. "You gotsa better answer, Boothe?" She demanded, and her brother snorted again, turning his face away. With a little war-cry, Sophie launched herself at him, and the two puppies wrestled for a moment, before Sophie managed to pin her larger brother with both paws pressed against his throat.

"You're acting like a brat," She snarled at him, and let him flail helplessly for a moment before she got off him and licked her paws clean. Boothe got up and shivered slightly, taking a few steps away from his sister with a dejected look on his face. They were supposed to have fun together today; he'd never have agreed to go hunting for elves if she hadn't promised it'd just be them for once. But she was right; he was acting stupid, and so with a breath that sounded very much like the sigh he wouldn't admit to, he straightened up, turning his eyes and ears toward Merlin. "It's in the Western Tangles...Sorta near the ocean?" He said hesitantly, as he'd smelled what Leon had called the "sea air" in their home, but had never seen the waves there.

Merlin watched with a raised brow as the pups rolled around in a little fight, and chuckle lightly to see the smaller she-wolf pin her brother. He also listened closely to the pup's words, 'AniWaya' didn't grip in Merlin's mind, but 'Western Tangles' did. Merlin felt like he had visited there before, but he couldn't remember when.

He tried not to look worried or troubled, so the young wolves wouldn't lose hope, but he felt stuck on when he had been to the west. Then he heard the young male speak of the ocean, and it triggered in Merlin's memory, he visited the ocean on a small expedition of his once to paint the sea. It was a while back, but Merlin remembered the route he took, if he could take them to the ocean side, they might remember their route on the way.

"I've got it," He said finally and smiled with success at the young wolves. He also turned to the young male and said, "And thank you for finally cooperating." To be honest he was getting fed up of the child’s stubbornness towards him, but he was glad that his sister finally taught him how to behave, and Merlin had put the boy's previous arrogance to a side and accepted his help.

He took a deep breath of relief and stood up, "Now if you'd kindly follow me, I'll show the way toward the ocean side, and you can warn me if there's anything you recognise on the way." And with that he walked behind the two young wolves and stood next to a tree, waiting for them to follow.

Boothe wrinkled his nose at the wolf's thanks, thinking it was a bit mean for gratitude. He actually sounded fed-up to Boothe, but the boy didn't care, his nose turning away and his ears pressed back now that they were finally getting somewhere. Sophie glanced at him with a sort of pinched look on her face, but as the stranger assured them he could get them at least somewhere familiar, she brightened, her curled tail wagging over her back.

She nodded agreeably as he began to lead them off, and stumbled along after them as they moved toward the ocean, her nose twitching as she attempted to find anything familiar. They were soon on a track leading west, though Sophie didn't recognize it as the one they'd been on before; then again, she was usually up on Hamza's back, so of course things didn't look the same from the ground. She didn't voice her concerns as they continued, and soon enough it paid off, as she recognized a large rock they'd passed some time that morning.

She shared a glance with Boothe, and then wagged her tail some more, speaking up brightly, "Looks like we're going the right way! I recognize that...um...boulder?" She hesitated a moment, not quite sure if that was the right word, but then shrugged, as it didn't really concern her. It was a rock, whatever you called it.

Merlin kept his pace slow, to make sure the young wolves wouldn't get lost behind him. He sniffed the path as he went for any scent of the young wolves’ previous path- None. He had to applaud these youngsters for such good hiding of their trail, for better or for worse.

He stopped for a moment as the young wolves scanned a large rock. He perched his ears up high as the young she-wolf told him of their previous visit to that spot. "Perfect!" He said smiling and wagging his bushy tail, "Glad to see we're on track."

He was certain that he wouldn't let the young wolves make their home journey alone. He knew they could look after one another, especially the male, Boothe, Merlin believed his sister called him. But Merlin shivered at the thought of danger coming to the young wolves, so as long as they would have him on their journey he would stay.

"So," He began sitting down for a moment, "Remember a trail from here?"
