Not Far From Home

The feline had sensed the amount of climbing chaos and amount of canines near the area in the Sugarwoods; it was not too far from the Halifax library, which was where he lived. Even there he found an influx of canines, those who wished to buy wares from Halifax, loot, or otherwise deal business. Nevertheless, Element did not find this sudden company suitable; many canines were loud and brash, taking no care in the beauty of the silence in a library nor taking care that there was a resident there. The merchants were quite disruptive, and in attempting to seek some peace, he headed to where he used to go when he did not know where to find silence; Whisper Beach.

Its very name was integral to its spirit, which was calm and quiet. Halfway to the area, however, Element began to scent wolves; not just the wolves of the merchants, as they were the other way across the lake, but new wolves in a strange, concentrated smell that could perhaps be confused with a pack. Perhaps they were a pack, now? Element's ear twitched, and he lowered his tail, lashing it once. Although he was no longer a cat with a prejudice against canines, he did not care for the new influx of them in the least. Disregarding the concentrated scent of canines for now, he continued to pad along the sandy coast until he saw the ocean. He sat on the edge of the beach then, watching the waves, and soon growing deep in thought.

OOC here!

Hadley had set off to the beach that morning, trying to put some distance between himself and the festival. Amy's scent had been carried past with purchased goods, sending his hackles to stand up in fear. The dog herself was nowhere in sight, but that didn't mean much to him. The scent had set him into a frenzy of fear as he took himself as far off from where the scent had come from as possible. He reached the beach, panting and wild eyed. Only the sight of the water before him halted the panicked hybrid.

Shakily he looked around before sitting on the ground. Looking over he noticed a cat. He watched it study the water calmly, and hoped that he hadn't disrupted it too badly. He drew himself up, clutching his body tightly. The cat seemed so serene, unaware of what was behind them. He watched behind him nervously, ears flattening and twitching nervously.

He felt the sense of peace return to him as he stared off into the calm sea, not thinking about wolves, dogs, or coyotes any longer and simply relaxing and clearing his mind of thought; it was meditation of a sort, one where he was at peace of mind as well as peace of body, sitting there on the beach with no one to disturb him.

The peace was not long-lived, however; as he stared out at the calm sea, the image was broken by something disturbing the water. A closer look revealed that a small fish had just emerged; Element concentrated on it, waving his tail slightly. Before he could do anything, however, he heard a canine running to the beach; it - he as Element now identified the canine as through smell - stopped before the water and before Element, panting heavily. His large, cupped ears caught all the sounds quickly, although he did not give any sign that he noticed the canine. He simply stood there then, observing with his senses the seemingly terrified male; Element could scent the fear, even from several paces away.

Without turning his head, Element simply called out; "Are you alright? What do you fear?" The panting coupled with the fear alerted the black feline, and he raised his tail, concentrating hard on the environment around him, prepared to flee if danger was near.

Hearing a voice call out sent the hybrid jumping back. Wildly Hadley looked around, trying to find out if someone had crossed through the pack borders. That wasn't right. Someone would have noticed. Unless he was just that unlucky. Scenting the air Hadley didn't find any other canines. Frowning now he looked around before his gaze fell back to the cat. It hadn't moved from it's position, though the cat seemed a lot more alert now.

A little nervous Hadley curled back up, legs pulled even tighter to his body. It was difficult to make a small target when so much of himself was available to injure, impossible to cover up. Deciding it was best to answer whatever had asked him the question Hadley put his answer to the air. Carefully he watched the cat, trying to figure out if it had anything to do with the sudden voice. Amy. Amy's near.
