ooc: Dated: T.B.D Halcyon Mountains, located near the Stellarton Mines. Secui form.

With the happenings that resided within the familiar walls of Ichika, a break away from a time was a much appreciated reprieve. Even if it was for a hunt for rarer game than the inhabited lands carried, it was refreshing to again be within the mountain’s embrace without diplomatic purpose in her stride nor worry to quicken her pace. It was a moment to breathe, to encapsulate that moment in time in which she was not part of a pack, but a loner that strode across the lands seeking adventure; to cross the thresholds into the unknown and enrich her mind with their wonders.

In reality, she knew the paths her legs carried her, often resorting to practiced movements than the stumbling steps of virgin paws caressing the rough terrain for the first time. But it was nice to pretend even if it was silly for her to attempt otherwise. She could at least smile as she fancied a dance atop the protruding stones of her ascent. Each bound was careful and measured perfectly. Her rampant heart beat steadily as a metronome, keeping her leaps in time until her heavy paws were flat upon stable ground once more. A gentle smile graced her lips as she was for a moment lost within her surroundings. The gentle chill of the snow beneath her thick umber boots, the relaxing sigh of a winter breeze carrying the promise of spring upon its delicate tendrils. Even the cheerful calls of the hidden birds contributed to the ambience of Nature making the woman feel calm and relaxed for perhaps the first time since returning from the Festival. The tension of her muscles hadn’t been noticed until she felt the sudden weight fall away and her shoulders, tail and all slackened to a comfortable posture and she inhaled deeply the clear air.

More than anything, she needed this even if her true purpose from leaving the lands was no doubt scurrying away as fast as his marten limbs could carry him. Her reason for his hide was forgotten. The matters that were kept to be tended to within Ichika remained there and there only. For once, she was taking a moment for herself, to reflect upon the life she had missed and longed for so deeply. Standing upon the lip of a ledge, her back set toward the treacherous façade of which she scaled, she thought of that very longing that had forced her to sing that night and brought to her the immeasurable treasure she cherished so deeply. She recounted the good in this moment of bliss, those events that made her smile and look on her decision to leave the Nomads as a blessing than a curse. Sighing softly, she slipped further into relaxation, the ease rolling along her form in heavy waves. Such incited pleasure compelled her muzzle to rise and sing of her elation quite proudly. Her melodious tones carried no true message, only a ballad of emotion made audible of relief, of happiness, of content.

Zalen is in Lupus.

After Zalen had escorted the little pup named Dalgina back to Ichika, he had taken some time to himself. Therefore now he had been gone from New Dawn lands for a day or so, not caring so much about the ebb and flow of time. This time alone brought back memories of a past life, one that was distant in reality but not so much in a matter of days. Once he had been a lone wolf, no care in the world save the contents of his stomach, and the contentment of his body. But he had always been destined for greater things it seemed, his paws were herded down a path he had least expected. But oh, to be free once more, for just a moment, apart from the burdens of leadership; it could be considered bliss.

Now the ebon male rested upon an outcropping in the foothills of the mountains, somewhere between Ichika land and his own. He held his regal head high, crisp green eyes scanning the immense land before him. In the distance, he could see the gray glittering line of the shore, but the rest was a dull green and white as winter still clung desperately to the land. But even now he could smell change, it floated on the breeze like a sweet perfume. Spring was coming, and with it the promise of sun and lazy days.

With a small huff Zalen went to lay his head down upon his outstretched paws, perhaps preparing to take a nap, when a beautiful call rang across the lands. It was a howl for no reason other than to belt out the caller’s contentment, and he would have enjoyed the sound and nothing more had he not recognized the voice. It was X’yrin, the leader of Ichika, for it seemed that Nayru and Razekiel no longer led, for what reason Zalen didn’t know. Zalen had gotten used to the lilt of X’y’s voice by now, and could pick her out from miles away if he had to.

With a long stretch, Zalen right himself, and bounded down gracefully from his perch to go meet her. A chance to interact with the cinnamon wolfess under positive circumstances was always a welcome thing, and he would take any chance of it he would get. Long, loping strides set him flying across the rocky, snow kissed ground and soon he could smell her upon the wind. It was not long then until she came into view, resting and having just finished her call. He came up upon her slowly, but not stealthily, and from upwind. He did not say anything in greeting, for there was nothing to say yet.

ooc:

Rapture was indeed hers in this lone sliver of time that was to be her own. Her song was long and loud, spanning both the range of her vocals and that of the spectrum of elated emotion. Her muzzle was touched by a delicate smile, enthralled by her own private pleasure until her voice faded into the winds and she was left standing breathless, but happy.

As she lowered her head her ears suddenly perked in attention at the soft shuffle of snow underpaw. Her hackles rose on reflex but there was no aggression in her disposition, only a curiosity that mirrored the face of a pup having heard something strange for the first time. It was simply in her nature to regard all things benign until her eyes had a chance to describe to her something other. And harmless was the face she met, brilliant emerald eyes peering at her from a distance, more an acknowledging look than the lingering eyes of scrutiny. Her connecting gaze was quite similar, lacking the furrow of skepticism or glimmer of mistrust. Such initial reactions taken on by most loners were lost to her seeing as she not only knew the male, but it was not in her nature to look upon any familiar face with nothing short of kindness.

Her greeting was offered in a low whine accompanied as always with a soft smile. She proceeded carefully toward him, one heavy paw quietly in front of the other, making her intentions well seen as she lifted her friendly banner and let it sway in the wind. One would have assumed a wolf in her position would have been more formal, more upholding of her position even outside of pack lands. But while leading a pack was a role that commanded a certain respect, her actions conveyed she wished for no such acknowledgement. Outside of her home, she was but a common wolf encountering another as kindly as her upbringing would compel her to be.

Her nose quivered excitedly as she drew nearer taking in this hints of the Alpha’s packmates as well as his own unique musk. He smelled of the mountain air no doubt from crossing the Halcyon same as she, and that thought alone made her tail wag just a little faster though in controlled, generous sweeps. Advancing closer to his shoulder with nose still eager and invasive, she humbly lowered her head in his presence in an attempted show of her humility given their drastic difference in size. It was an observation she tried unsuccessfully to dismiss , but as her mate often pointed out, such attempts were wishful thinking. Better she embrace this ancestor encouraged evolutionary trait and form some way of making it appear she did not have the temperament to match those gifted with her size. Harmless, when she chose to be. And nothing more.

But a simple gesture was not enough to appease her worrisome mind. Her ears were drawn back against her skull as again she whined in greeting, this time raising a snow dusted paw to bat lightly at the Alpha’s shoulder.

The look she gave him when she turned to look at him was one of friendship, no trace of shock or annoyance in her features save the slight puffing of her lovely fur. Zalen watched, and listened, as the Ichikan wolfess whined and came to greet him in such a natural fashion. The black Alpha could not help but to cock his head to the side curiously at her, for this was the first time he had seen her in such a way, with no words being spoken. He was about to ask her if she was alright, but she was before him now, her tail wagging furiously behind her. Her ears were laid back and she batted him playfully and Zalen couldn’t help but let his instinct take over to such a display.

His own ebon furred appendage began to swing like a pendulum behind him, and he flicked his ears back as well as he closed the gap between them. Rubbing his flank against hers he sniffed; she smelled of Ichika and the mountains, it was a scent that was quite pleasing to his senses. His tail began to speed up as he turned and rubbed his head into the fluffy scruff of her neck.

She was in Secui form, yet the size difference was somewhat surprising with his form still managing to be slightly large then her in some aspects. It seemed that he had gained some muscle and fat in the previous months, mostly due to the amount of travel and the availability of prey. This was good, for he had always been average at best, but now it seemed he was beginning to grow into his large paws and legs.

He returned her whine and darted his tongue out to lick at her chin. Here outside their territories they were nothing more than lone wolves, glad to be in each others companies. This nature show of friendly affection nearly made him want to play, but he held back for now, wondering how she would react to his return of her gestural conversation.

No prior expectations were held for his receptiveness and yet she found herself glad for his open show of friendship. Too few of their kind regarded each other as their forbearers had done; a ‘hello’ performed rather than spoken allowing the state of the form as opposed to a tone of voice to convey their true feelings. The female had learned that words were deceptive and could be made to be more so, a modern invention that tended to bring about trouble and rouse suspicions.

But a touch, a flick of the tail, or even the subtle quirk of a brow was far more audible, and better still was harder to conceal one’s true feelings. Anyone could mask misery with a cheery tune, but hardly any could disguise true sadness on their face. And there was none to be shown on hers, only content coupled with a growing excitement that lit her eyes.

His touch was met with a contented growl as well as a purposefully nudge by her shoulder into his. It wasn’t meant to harm, but to shift his ground a little and test the waters of this well-met encounter before wading further out from the shallows. Her muzzle swept down to grace his cheek in a sign of endearment with the chilled flesh of her nose burying into the warmth of his scruff. Her vocals reverberated with a playful growl as she again raised her paw to his flank to entice as response of the like before suddenly withdrawing from the dark fur all together.

Her mood remained as it was, very light and merry, but her form did not. Rarely did she take on the weaker of her four-legged forms, but on the occasions she did she always felt that much lighter and brimming with energy. A substantial amount of mass was lost in the shift but her body retained its lengthy limbs as well as its pronounced curvature. Regardless of form, there was a single absolute that was a natural gift by the ancestors; a large frame and ample thickness accented by the tastefully placed subtle (or less than) hints of her gender. Her auburn locks were still in cascades of madness spilling along her front despite her futile efforts to toss them back from her eyes. And most importantly, she was still elated and now bubbly with unspent energy.

She tested the newly set bone and muscles with a deep bow before the Dawn Alpha. Her tail remained high and waving, taunting the male with a yet to be captured flag as she inched forward and padded playfully at the ground tossing minute flakes of snow into the air.

She had pushed him back at his testing tongue and it sent him somewhat off balance, and he made a small prance move away from her to stabilize himself. This was all very interesting, but it felt very right, much like what Zalen had intended would soon become of the interactions between his pack members the more and more comfortable they became with the natural part of themselves. X’y seemed to already have the subtle language of the wolf down pat, and Zalen could not help but to be both envious and exhilarated.

His onyx tail continued to wave, this time with more fervor, as the Ichikan female moved away from him. She was quite beautiful and strong, her muscles adding to her frame in such lovely ways. Her fur was also something of a marvel, falling long and crimson ringlets even in this form. For a moment he was mesmerized, but then he noticed that she was beginning to change. His breath hitched and he looked away, turning himself in a circle and pretended to become interested in some indiscriminate scent on the ground. To him to shift in front of someone else was a most intimate affair, nearly as intimate as love making, for it showed the spectator the most delicate and weak side of oneself. Zalen didn’t feel as if X’yrin was doing so in any romantic sense, but one of trust. Still, Zalen could feel his dark skin heat up, and if he were lighter he would surely be flushing.

After a moment he chanced a glance back at the woman, who now had changed into her smaller quadruped form. She was quite becoming, and very feminine. If both of them were not mated for life, he would have been tempted to further their relationship, but for now such thoughts were nothing more than whimsy.

The cinnamon girl then bowed in that playful way before him and batted at him and he barked out before mirroring her stance. So it was play she wanted? Well he was up for a game! He jumped forward slightly, mouth open in a smiling and playful snarl.

This particular language was better spoken than perhaps her use of words themselves. The delicate threshold between simplistic and complicated speech was constantly being tested with the subtle movements of her brows or by the flick of her tail. And what was better was that there was only truth to them, no foolish disguised to convey something other than what was displayed. She quite enjoyed it, even the vulnerability it showed. She was content with having nothing to hide.

As her playful partner mirrored her stance, his tail fanning and forelimbs advanced forward, the she-wolf’s own maw parted excitedly before it snapped shut with an audible click as a low challenging growl rumbled from her chest. She could give the male credit, in their like forms he looked quite strong and able perhaps more in tuned with this particular body than she was. But while the emphasized features of his form were something to be desired, her eye was more attracted to the fact that he looked like he posed a challenge; a body to test the dexterity of her own and possibly its limitations. But all in play of course.

Her warning to him was only that growl and a haphazard beat of her paws against the snow before she pushed off the ground by her hind legs to pounce for his front and lay both front paws against his shoulder. Hit or miss, she was too excited for words, enjoying the beginning of this time of play and held great anticipations for what more was in store.

She responded to his mock charge with a real one, and her lithe form came cascading into his. His legs buckled underneath him, though he could have stood as solid as a rock if he wanted to, but he allowed the two of them to go tumbling paw over ears down the slope a bit. Snow immediately clung to his fur, dusting him like the starry night sky. He growled playfully and went to nip at her ears before jumped up like a spring hare. He pranced down the hillside a bit, but then turned to her to see if she was following, slightly bowed again in the play stance.

Zalen hadn’t played like this in years, and it was taking him some time to get back into the swing of things. Sure he had “played” with Titania, but that had been romantic and sexual in nature. He had also romped with Krystalle’s female pup named Paz, but it had been short lived. Now it seemed as if he had an equal play mate, one that had as much stamina as he, and without any ulterior motives. Zalen sprung up from the play stance and danced in the snow, his tongue lolling happily out of his mouth. He yipped at her, goading her own, before sprinting away. The chase had begun.

Her charge was successful though she clearly hadn’t meant it to be. When their forms collided and for a moment onyx melded with the hues of autumn, she yelped in surprise as the two of them tumbled down into the snow. The cold was nothing to the thick hide, but the amble fur made it easier for snow to cling. Still in a bit of a daze, she attempted to roll back to her feet with yet another playful yelp as her ear was captured before the assailant when sprinting away. Where was the fun in that, the drawl of her howl voiced as she hurriedly scrambled to her paws kicking snow and rock every which way to gain her footing. Had this been a brawl or spar, she would have been on her feet in an instant and ready to take another round, but in the midst of play, her form mattered little. All she cared about was reaching him and seek out revenge on his ear.

And hurry she did, loping down the hillside in graceful bounds. Seeing him wait, she had prepared herself to gain footing and stop, but seeing his muscles flex, her ears shot forward attentively, recognizing the gesture in his muscles but was too late to make the advance herself and stop him. He was a dark blur atop the white in an instant, followed swiftly by an autumn leaf caught on the wind. Oh, she was going to get that black tail of his if it was the last thing she did today. It was just light catching the ever elusive marten, except this prey was much bigger and gave her a bigger challenge. But that taunting tail would be hers.

Finally I stop being a loser and reply to you. <3 BTW, crown is what Titania calls moose, and king crown is bull moose.

Down, down, down he went, out of the foothills and towards the plains that were between New Dawn and Ichika. He ran full sprint, but every time he felt that X’y’s prancing paws fell too far behind him he would take pause to turn around and bark at her to hurry. This was fun, this game of chase, though he knew it could not last forever. One physical attribute that Zalen had always been gifted with was his stamina; he could run for days if he wanted to. He would not cause the new Ryu to wind herself too badly though, but it would be difficult to catch him.

Once the rocks and steeps slopes of the foothills melted away into grass, moss and thinly dispersed conifers did Zalen slow. Now he danced in between the tree trunks, turning around on his back legs to see his play mate come at him. She would be upon him quickly, no doubt, for she was a strong and agile female; she would not lose him.

His dance then suddenly hitched when a scent came to his nose, a musky scent that in his excited delirium took him a moment to register. It caused the hairs on the back of his neck to stand on end, and he twisted suddenly to look deeper into the forest, his ears laid back against his head and his body rigid. A king crown! Just several days ago, this bull had been in New Dawn territory, and Titania had wanted to hunt it. But Zalen had suggested the easier game of goat instead, knowing that to bring down a full grown male moose was not so easy a task, and Titania was still young. Zalen’s heart beat fast, if they disturbed the beast, it might mean bad news for them.

ooc: Hurray!

Always just out of reach from her eager jaws, that black hide of his. It was enough to make a hunter frustrated with the elusiveness of such prey. But the woman was not bred to be a hunter and thus did not harbor the ego of one surely to be bruised by the inability to take down one’s target. And without that burdening ego she was able to roll down the foothills on gallant limbs with glee, enjoying the chase comprised of these two alphas.

She bound atop the sturdy stones, from one to the other until their chase made way onto softer, lush plains. From there upon the cushion of fragrant flora lightly graced with snow, her pace increased drawing night to the elusive tail at the strong risk of capture. Yet again it was pulled just out of reach as her prey forewent their chase for a dance through the conifers she was more than willing to take part in. But their feral waltz was brief; her legs hardly had a moment to dance around her playmate before his attention was drawn elsewhere by an aromatic scent on the wind, and in effect her own attention was diverted.

She looked from alpha to the thickening interior of the forest for what their noses could scent. It was an alluring aroma, of musk… of fresh meat, a delectable challenge laying in wait to be tested. Her parted maw snapped closed with an audible click as she breathed through her nostrils instead, greedily drinking in the aerosolized essence of the bull and felt her maw moisten with anticipation. Anticipating a hunt on the rise, she looked to her playmate with a glimmer of excitement in her radiant hues. Her tail swayed eagerly, bumping into the thigh of the Dawn alpha as if he needed extra cause for this play to turn into a hunt. She was willing and certainly able. But was her lust for the challenge matched by his?

OOC text

Soon, Zalen felt the heat of Xy’rin at his side, and he knew immediately that she smelled it as he did. But instead of wariness, he could sense her demeanor change to one of focused excitement; it was obvious that she wanted that hunt. He glanced over at her just as she flitted her golden eyes to him, and his heart skipped a beat; her eagerness was contagious and he suddenly felt himself go into stalk mode. Nudging back against her then, and rubbing his thickly furred neck down her side, he began to move forward into the tree-line, his pad-falls making nary a sound as he slithered through the trees like a snake made of shadow.

He had not hunted such large game in a long time, in fact, it had been more than a year, for in the not too distant past he had been feeding himself on yearling fawns and smaller game. And New Dawn had just been established, so there had yet to be a pack hunt, so all the members had taken care of their own stomachs, sharing what leftovers they had with the less skilled. In fact, the other day when he and Titania had hunted the goats, that had been only the second time since his adolescence that he had hunted as a group. So this hunt… it meant something to him; it was like he was coming of age all over again.

ooc:

Her heart began to race with the anticipation of the hunt. Adrenaline and endorphins ravaged through her system, preparing her for the exertion of strength and energy sure to come to down this worthwhile prey. And she grew all the more excited feeling the purposeful caress of her playmate against her neck as he reciprocated the desire to hunt as well.

Oh what a day this turned out to be! How glad she was to have raised her voice in song of her elations for it brought unto her the bud of a sure to blossom relationship now nourished by the bond of a hunt now forging. She would have whined with glee were they not within earshot of the great elk hidden within the trees. Instead, she lowered both head and tail bringing them aligned with her frame as she slipped through the trees as effortlessly as an autumn leaf carried effortlessly by the winds. She twisted and turned on dexterous paws, her steps falling soundlessly on the earthen hues of the ground lightly dusted with snow.

As the scent of the elk grew stronger, her maw began to pool as the delectable aroma entranced her nostrils and coaxed her appetite into waking. It threatened to growl at any moment, its empty state not realized until its succulent dark hide was within her range of sight. The female forced herself lower to the ground, her tail swaying with anticipation as she held out from springing the attack until there was confirmation of the Dawn Alpha’s readiness. They hadn’t made a plan of attack which was how the she-wolf liked to hunt. No interference with civilized thoughts. Just the instinctual actions the body knew it was capable of and the reactions toward what they were given by the others present. And she was content to wait and see which of them had the urge to bring this hunt to life and which would take the killing blow and taste the first blood.
