It's A New Life

Back-dated to Jan 25th. Augustus requested being the second post in this thread because he wants to be around when Blind joins, if that’s alright Smile And she’s in lupus form.

Blind’s heart pounded in her dark chest as she traversed the short spread of mountains that her dear playmate had explained would take her to New Dawn territory. It had been so long it seemed since she’d stumbled across Crimson Dream’s borders after a feeble attempt to join, befriended immediately by the dark wolfess who was supposed to be living here now. So much had changed since then; between her loved ones and her own appearance and emotions, it was like her world had been turned upside-down. A puff of breath shot up from her dark lips to the grown out patch of blond on her forehead - if she tried to cut it off now, she’d have her typical auburn waves left, only in a modified form, a sort of crop like her friend Vesper’s. She froze mid-step then, offering a brief glance over her shoulder – she knew she’d passed Inferni quite some time ago, and it was the hardest thing to press forward without stopping at the borders to call for her. With a shake of her head, she moved forward, determined to do just as the scarred coywolf had suggested: she was going to live her life to her full potential, and find a place for herself. She believed now that leaving Crimson Dreams was necessary in order to truly find herself, for she had been far too shy and naïve then to be of any use to the pack. If she was accepted by this new pack, she would do all in her power to earn her place among them and be loyal to them. After all, she had loved ones there already, so feeling alone would be much harder now than it had been then.

A quick sniff of the ground told Blind that she was finally there, the picture of four-leggeds frolicking and hunting together dancing across her mind’s eye. Her tail swayed a bit, and her bi-colored eyes searched briefly for her salt-and-pepper Casanova; she wished he could be here to support her. But she knew, too, that he would have duties to attend to, just as Soran probably did. Oh, Soran…the more Blind thought about her foster mother, the more she chided herself for leaving the sable woman’s side. Soran had been so kind to her, and Blind had left her without hardly saying good-bye. Indeed, the more Blind thought about it, it pained her, and she wondered what had spurred her decision to leave in the first place. But no, Fate had decided for her, and so here she stood, a loner again about to join another pack.

The dark wolfess lifted her head, prepared to howl, but she lowered it again as fear crept over her. What if she truly didn’t fit in with the wolves of New Dawn? What if Augustus grew tired of her, and what if Soran reacted just as Vesper had to her leave? She felt herself drowning in the darkness of self-doubt and loneliness, a frantic foot rising to claw at the blond tuft on her forehead out of sheer nervousness. Her breathing increased until it was a full pant, and her dark frame shook in the chill of the early-evening wind. But then, she stopped. Determined to shut out her childish ways once again, Blind straightened up with as much confidence as she could muster and allowed her blue and gold eyes to travel past the borders to inspect her potential home, while her thick paws stayed rooted to the spot. She scoffed then, realizing that she no longer needed to worry about cutting her blond locks off because she had just clawed them off. You and I are more alike than you think, Vessie, she said lightly, shaking her head free of any clinging hair. But this was her, dark-chocolate from head to toe with heterochromatic eyes and a slight limp. She wasn’t that blond fool who had spent too many nights chatting aimlessly with a wolf she’d hardly known. She was Blind, daughter of Rhia and Limp, and perhaps a sister to others that she hadn’t known. She was a mess emotionally, but strong deep down and determined to please those around her, even if she ended up dying alone. Tail erect, Blind threw her head back and let out a loud, almost musical howl, her tone speaking of her loneliness as well as portraying the growth that she had experienced since the last time she’d come calling at pack borders. And then she waited, her posture much more confident than it had been and also capable of dropping into submission at the sight of another. She would please this pack, or she would forever be a content wanderer.

Sorry I couldn't leave this any longer! Augustus is still completely welcome to join in though Smile For anyone reading this the powerplay is with Alexis's permission Smile

Soran had been a recluse for a long time, she had been contented with working alone, tidying the den when the others were out and going for patrols around the borders when they all came back to the den. She could not explain why, but for some reason the sable Beta just could not be around the other wolves, well not the ones that she did not know well; she of course would still curl around Deuce every evening, snuggling against her gently, licking her face softly, placing wolfish kisses on her lover's face, she accepted Holly, the little female that Deuce had taken under her wing and was happy to be polite to her, but she was keeping her distance. In fact Soran had been keeping her distance from all of the pack wolves, with the exception of three; Zalen, Titania and Deuce; Soran was happy to be polite and always greeted the others with a smile and a nod, but she did not stop to chat, there was something at the moment that being around the others that made the coal pelted female cringe, almost as if they were rubbing against injured skin, irritating some strange part within the ebony female. So today she was in the main part of the lands, alone, comfortable; it seemed that this phase was almost over though, there was a stirring in the dark female's chest now, a feeling of loneliness that was beginning to creep in, perhaps there would soon come a time when she would be happy to be around her pack mates again. But for now the sable matriarch was happy being alone, she was acting a little like a pup at the moment, she was laying on her back, all four paws in the air as she lay there. It had been a position that she had found comfortable when she had been suffering with the injury to her foreleg, this position took all the strain from the aching muscle and had allowed her to sleep comfortably, the leg was now fully healed, there was still some pain, but it only happened when she slipped, or jarred it. It was nice not to limp everywhere. Still Soran found the position comfortable and that was why she was laying in the bizarre pose now.

Soon enough the reverie that she had fallen into was broken, broken by a loud howl. The sable female's ears twitched, catching the melodic tone of someone at the borders, she rolled over, laying on her front now and her brow furrowed, she knew that voice, she most certainly knew it. The ebony female paused for a moment, attempting to place a face to the sound of the howl, soon enough she had it! It was Blind! A wide grin stretched across the Betess' dark lips and she was on her feet in an instant. Oh how wonderful it was to hear the voice of her adopted daughter once again, Soran had been quite concerned about her when she had left all of a sudden, she had worried about the dark female greatly, after all she loved her dearly, the idea that something might have happened to her was unbearable. Soran took off at a run, her long, lithe limbs moving her quickly across the lands to the borders, she kept sniffing the air as she ran, the scent of Blind was now unmistakable, it really was her! She really had come home to her mother! She was alright! This news was wonderful to the sable female, she sped up her running, breathing quickly as she bounded across the lands. Soon enough the familiar female with the bi-coloured eyes came into view. Soran let out a cry of delight as her eyes fell upon her. She did not slow down when she saw the younger female, instead she did not even bother to slow down or stop as she approached the borders, she pushed the young female over quickly, pinning her on her back. Soran stood over her, resting a paw on the female's shoulder lightly to keep her in place, she grinned down at the young girl and then pushed her face close to the young girl's quickly. This was not an act of aggression, no, even though she opened her mouth as she placed her face to Blind's it was no act of aggression, instead she began to shower her young daughter's face with wolfish kisses, licking her all over her face, her ears, her cheeks, the tip of her nose, letting out happy whines as she did so. Soon enough the older female had had her fill of mothering the younger girl and stepped off of her, her tail wagging furiously as she looked her over, moving to stand close to her, standing tall, dominant, but unable to contain her delight at seeing the younger girl.
"Blind! Blind my darling girl, it is so, so wonderful to see you once again. What are you doing here? Where have you been?" The sable female asked all in a rush, her tail still wagging violently as she grinned at the younger female.

OOC: It's fine. I post Mon-Fri so I don't usually post on weekends. || Word Count →605

6 days. For six days she’d kept him waiting. Every howl, every stray scent along the border set him immediately on edge, pacing with eyes straining towards the horizon. 6 days of anxiety, wistful longing, and excitement made him reclusive. He stalked the eastern border by day and night, leaving only to eat or drink, and finally, when he could keep his eyes open for no longer, return to the den to sleep. His head was reeling, and he thought of nothing but her. Her face haunted him by day and night, every blot of dark chocolate in his vision setting his heart to racing, until his tongue lolled and he panted for breath. 6 days of torment. He was beginning to think she would not come. So much was his plight that that morning when he rose from the den and reached the border he’d been there just moments before his large black and white frame slumped to the ground and his eyes fluttered shut. His head and heart whirling with a mix of emotions and thoughts sleep was not so easy to come by even when the behemoth crawled back to the den exhausted. He dreamed and dreamed in fitful sleep.

The sun rose and was beginning its descent on the western horizon and the man hardly flicked a paw to acknowledge the passing of the day in the waking world. His white chest rose and fell with his even breathing and his eyes rarely fluttered as deep dreamless sleep took him for the first time in days. The world was still around him as predator and prey attended to their daily routines, with Augustus laying seemingly frozen in time. A flurry of snow had his pelt covered in a thin blanket of white, but he was dead to it all, dead to the world. It wasn’t until a melodic voice sounded somewhere near that the male stirred. A black rimmed ear twitched and slowly, so very slowly an eye crept open, then the other. He blinked to clear his vision, and rose immediately, heart suddenly jumping to life in his chest. He leapt to his feet and shook himself, eyes wide with horror as he noticed that the day was all but spent. How long had he been sleeping?

But he had little time to think it over as his mind slowly made the connection to his sudden arousal. A voice. Her voice! Hastily the male lifted his muzzle to the sky, singing a short song with vocal chords thick and husky from sleep. He slumped forward to rub his eyes with his forepaws before giving his great head a shake and bounding into an excited sprint. His paws seemed as alight as his heart and he seemed to fly. His tail wagged whenever it was not being thrashed this way and that to sustain his balance as he ran. It wasn’t until too late that he saw the two dark figures before him. Wait, two? His claws dug into the earth to prevent him from skidding into the other female. Soran, his nostrils cried. This was what he’d been waiting for 6 days. How could he have missed it? How could the other woman have reached her first? He cursed himself and cursed himself, and cursed even more as his paw caught a stray rock and he lost his footing. All one hundred and forty-five pounds of momentum crashing towards the pair. He didn’t have time to think, didn’t have time to breathe, he just threw his head to his chest and hunched his shoulders and prayed this did not end badly.

AH excitement ^^

Blind could feel her heart creeping into her throat with each passing moment. She thought she heard a howl off in the distance not long after she’d emitted her own, but she convinced herself it was nothing more than a figment of her imagination. But soon enough, a dark figure came bounding over the hills, and Blind’s muscles tensed – painfully, almost – with anticipation. As the figure neared, however, a familiar scent drifted her way, mingled with various unfamiliar scents. She dared not imagine, but the closer the figure came, the surer she was that it was indeed Soran. With a bright yip, Blind bounced around in place in spite of herself, her tail wagging violently behind her until Soran’s dark body connected with hers and sent her tumbling to the ground.

Slightly dazed and on her back now, Blind giggled softly as a flurry of licks attacked her face, neck, and ears. Just hearing Soran say her name brought her so much joy, and suddenly every worry she’d ever had seemed to dance away with each panted breath. Eventually Soran’s affection faded away, and Blind opened her eyes abruptly to make sure she was still there. The dark wolfess stood by her side, grinning all the while, and Blind hopped up and took her turn licking Soran’s face. Soran, I’m… she began, but another familiar scent redirected her attention, and Blind’s bi-colored eyes flickered over to the hills just as a salt-and-pepper colored figure came bounding over them. However, instead of galloping over to Blind’s side as Soran had done, this one took a step…and then came tumbling toward them in a head-first roll. Eyes widening, Blind watched dumbfounded as the figure neared them, and soon enough she discovered that it was indeed her Casanova. She had no time to laugh however, for almost as soon as he’d tumbled, he came barreling into Blind and knocked her to the ground once again. Everything stood still then, and she opened one eye slowly – she hadn’t even realized she’d closed them – to make sure nothing was broken or bending in a way it shouldn’t. Finally Blind staggered to her feet, chuckling softly as she shook herself and then nuzzled her snout into Augustus’ face and neck. What are you doing silly? she asked. You could’ve hurt yourself!…You didn’t hurt yourself, did you?

After a quick inspection of the male’s body, Blind glanced back to Soran with a wagging tail. I…I’d like to join your pack mother, she said, nearly leaping out of her fur at how good it felt to call her that. It had been so long…TOO long, indeed, and this caused Blind to return to her adoptive mother’s side and nuzzle against her lovingly. Eyes flickering back to Augustus, she whined happily at how comical it was that she was so torn between which loved one to nuzzle when. And then she realized just how happy she truly was; pure joy flooded through her once again. Shaking her head clear – she wouldn’t allow herself to think of whose presence would make this moment even better – Blind then bowed respectfully to both canines before asking, What must I do to be numbered among those of New Dawn? I feel my place is here, and I will prove it in whatever way is requested.

Gah! So excited to have you back Big Grin *clings to*, mummy Soran missed Blind Big Grin

The sable mother could not help but be delighted by the sight of the younger female on the borders, surely this was a sign that she needed to involve herself in the pack's affairs more, to be more sociable, for if she hid herself away then she would miss so many joyous reunions like this one. The ebony Betess' tail was wagging furiously as she looked at her daughter, just to hear her giggle as she had done when Soran had been showering her with wolfish kisses, that was a sound that made her heart soar; it seemed that no matter how bleak things became, no matter how many loved ones the sable female lost, they slowly seemed to return to her. She wondered for a moment if it was the same pull for these lands that the dark female herself had felt whenever she left; whenever she went for a walk her feet would pull her back in this direction, no matter where she had been intending to go. Often the coal pelted female had not even been thinking about these lands, there had been a time when any mention of the collective 'Souls lands was far, far too painful, there were still terrible, awful memories in this place, still pointed, nagging things that would catch at the back of the ebony female's mind every now and again. Sometimes the emotional pain was enough to take the sable Beta's breath away, to cause her to stand stock still, shaking and gasping until the memory faded away; but with each happy memory these moments became fewer and father between, Blind arriving would no doubt help to ease some of the more awful memories. Soran smiled and her tail began to wag even more furiously as Blind began to lick at her chin, she leaned in to the affectionate gesture, just Blind speaking her name made the sable mother happier than she had been for a few weeks. This moment of peaceful reunion was soon broken though, a large shape was approaching them quickly.

Soran raised her dark head and sniffed the air, testing it, it was Augustus that was approaching, the sable female did not know him well, but she had seen him around the lands, he seemed like a nice enough wolf, the dark female saw no threat from him. Then the large form seemed to trip and the dark female's jade eyes widened as she realised that the male was about to come crashing into the dark pair, no doubt with his large size he would send them both sprawling. The dark female skidded out of the way as best she could, but as the male collided with Blind the sable Betess slipped, falling on her front, slicking her face with mud where there had been a patch where the snow had melted away. She stood and turned to look at Blind and Augustus, staring at them both for a minute, aware that her chest, chin and snout were completely covered in mud; the ridiculousness of the situation came to her and she began to laugh, a warm hearty laugh. Oh how good it felt to laugh again, the sable female had feared that she had forgotten how to, it had been too long since she had laughed.
"It is good to see you again Augustus." The coal pelted lady said through chuckles. She looked from Blind to Augustus, watching her dark daughter nuzzle at him gently. She could not help but smile seeing the affection, the caring between the two. It seemed that she was not the only one that was delighted to see Blind at the borders, no wonder Augustus had been racing to see her, the ebony wolf could not help but be pleased that the younger girl had found someone who clearly cared deeply for her. Soran smiled as the younger female declared her intent, saying that she wanted to join the pack, the sable female's heart soared at this, she had lost so many family members, to have one so close by would be wonderful. She returned the affectionate nuzzling gently, but moved to stand in a dominant position. The girl spoke again, saying that she would be willing to do anything to be allowed to join. Soran thought for a moment, looking at the younger girl, with Zalen and Titania both away at the festival it fell to her, the second in command, to make such a decision. She smiled broadly at the young girl and then at Augustus.
"Hmmm... I don't know Blind, I really don't, what do you think Augustus, would you vouch for her?" Soran asked, her brow furrowed slightly as she spoke. But the ebony female could not keep up the pretense of being stern for too long, her face split into a smile again and she laughed.
"Blind, you are my daughter, if you are sure that this is what you want, then you will always be welcome here, I trust you, I know that you will do your best to help with the pack. But I must know for sure, this is most certainly what you want?" Soran added, the final question being asked a little more sternly, but with her motherly tones breaking through, her tail wagging as she looked at her daughter again.
"Is that acceptable for you Augustus?" The lady asked the black and white behemoth, smiling at him as well.

OOC: So sorry for the wait, I had a rough week :/ and Auggie's a grumpy butt xP|| Word Count →394

The male knew he was falling with no way to stop himself. His body collided with both women, dipping the Beta’s face in the mud and causing Blind to topple over once again. When his eyes finally opened he gave his head a hard shake. Everything seemed to be spinning. When he noticed the Beta there he straightened immediately and took a couple steps back, his ears and tail lowering greatly. “Beta…” He said, breathless. “I-I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to…” But her chuckles had his ears twitching and his face began to blaze under his fur. He didn’t quite know what to do or what to say and hung his head, avoiding eye contact with either female. He was feeling like a total and complete idiot, but he hadn’t expected the Beta to be there. Blind was chuckling herself and nuzzled into him. “No I’m not hurt,” he rumbled, continuing to avoid eye contact. It was clear by his voice that he was extremely embarrassed and displeased with himself, but he tried as hard as he could to at least be respectful in the Beta’s presence.

He stood back from the pair reservedly, only pausing in his brooding to glance at the Beta and Blind from the corner of his eyes when he was asked the question. His eyes bored into Blind’s then, bidding her silently to show the same submission she’d shown him before in the buffer zone. No matter how well the two knew each other it was a terribly important ritual. She bowed respectfully and he looked her over with a little more interest than necessary. He caught himself and darted his eyes away a moment before replying. “I do, Beta.” His voice possessing the seriousness that Soran’s lacked. She spoke at greater length to Blind and he listened carefully.

He was displeased that she’d kept him waiting this long, but she was here now and he let it go for the moment, although as soon as the Beta were to leave he’d no doubt bring it up. He didn’t like being kept waiting, and it mattered little if he harbored any feelings for her or not, he’d most certainly let her know. It was simply the way he was. “Yes, Beta,” He said gruffly, nodding in her general direction although his eyes never met hers, nor came near.

421 → No problem honey!

After the initial shock of the collision wore off, a new shock filled Blind after Soran spoke. She’d let her guard down, thinking that it would be easy to get in just because Soran had greeted her. It was a mistake, and in any other situation she would have been in huge trouble. But a quick glance in the ebony female’s direction provided Blind some relief, for she saw jest in those wise eyes. She was playing a trick, and Blind had almost fallen for it.

Her relief didn’t last long, however, for the responses from Augustus – despite the fact that they weren’t condemning – were rather short and cold. She wondered if perhaps she’d done something wrong, or if he’d changed his mind about wanting her beside him in this pack. Had he met someone else? So many thoughts spun around in her head that she nearly forgot to answer Soran’s question. Lowering her stance even further, Blind said, Soran, I want nothing more than to be a member of this pack. I feel that I belong here, and that I might find a purpose here. I’ve practiced my hunting, I’ve learned how to classify herbs, and I’ve even learned how to USE some of those herbs. You know that I won’t hesitate to help another, and that my family comes first. I have made mistakes in the past, but I hope that I can be of some use to this pack and learn to reform my ways.

Blind’s bi-colored eyes did not lift as she spoke. Just as she had done when she had tried to join Crimson Dreams, Blind remained submissive and small, the very picture of insignificance. She had to consider the issue that she had abandoned her first pack, and there was no doubt that Soran remembered too. This caused a lump of panic to swell in Blind’s throat - there was a very real possibility that she might end up alone again, turned away by even her mother.

Trying to clear her thoughts, Blind awaited the verdict. She didn’t know what else to say, but she would surely answer any other questions they asked of her. Stealing a glance at Augustus, her heart sped up even more at the mere appearance of him. She hadn’t seen this side of him before – he was the epitome of nobility, and he oozed with authority. She felt a tiny shiver dance over her spine, and she nudged her snout into the snow beneath her in order to distract herself.
