A day with Dad

As he knelt on the floor next to his daughter and the container of firedust between them, Temo kept quiet as he watched his daughter draw using the fire dust making various lines and shapes on the bits of wood scattered about the floor around them. He thought to himself that it looked like his daughter might be a up and coming artist.

A bit of a smile grew on his muzzle as it warmed his heart to see Dalgina having fun going about her task of decorating the chunks of wood that were before her. She seemed to be learning to draw pretty good with her paws and he wondered how much better she would aspire to when she can change to her optime form. Although he himself was not an artist and cannot draw, he would help her as best as he could.

He kept quiet so as not to disturb the concentration of his young artist as she crawled around on the floor possibly getting more ashes into her fur than on the wood. Occasionally he would move the bin of ashes so as it would not get knocked over and spilled onto the floor by her enthusiasm and kept it in reach of her questing paw so she could dip the paw into the ash.

Papa was by her side, silent as she worked. Occasionally she looked up to him, a huge smile on ehr face. She was happy to be doing this with him. One by one the wooden pieces were covered, ash getting all over the dark pup. Cheerfully she followed along until most of the pieces were covered by splashes of ash, nonsense pictures that didn't look like anything to anyone other than the pup. She saw the light that filtered through the air, and ingali, and cool dark places to rest on hot sunny days.

A large yawn escaped Dalgina. Quietly she crawled over to Papa, settling into his lap. Ash from her fur rubbed onto him, leaving them both covered in the gray firedust. Her eyes drifted closed, coughing a little before going off to dreamland, the panels of wood spreading through her dreams, floating and lighting up to show her a wonderful world, the light swirling around her.

His heart warmed as he watched his daughter, Dalgina, work diligently at covering the wood pieces with ash pictures. She was happy and it make him happy to see his child happy and to be doing something that helps make her happy. He had not taken much time from his duties before and it felt good to have taken this day from them to spend with Dalgina. The house was quiet with the fire popping and crackling as the flames merrily ate at the wood. The only other noise was the chunks of wood on the floor as Dalgina made her pictures on them.

A father can tell when their kids are getting tired and he could see it in Dalgina's eyes but he let her continue with her drawing. He did not want to disturb her and she would soon be out of surfaces to spread the ash over. As Dalgina climbed into his lap after she was done leaving patterns of ash on the bits of wood strewn about the floor. His hand helped steady her as she climbed up and settled down into his lap and dozed off. The quietness and stillness of the moment had his eyelids growing heavier as he wondered what had more ash on them, the pieces of wood or Dalgina.
